Meraki Grill in Barnet

I had heard this restaurant was ‘really nice’, I dined here this week with my family and as fellow Greeks we are disappointed with our experience. The food is ok (overcooked to be honest) and it is WAY overpriced! £17 for chicken souvlakia (gyros not on the menu but they don’t mention this until you’re there). It doesn’t come with chips or salad. They claim is comes with salad - you get 1/4 slice tomato, 2 thin rings of onion and 2 slices of cucumber sliced into quarters. We actually asked ‘where is the salad?’ and we were told that was it..I’m sure they knew that’s not a salad, anyone who has been to Greece or Cyprus would know this isn’t how we give salad!! Moving on..if there are 8 people on the table and you serve two tiny portions of pitta bread that is cut in quarters so not even forming a whole pitta - that is. Or enough. You size the portion according to how many people are eating and you certainly don’t charge extra for more bread (they did and Nissi doesn’t do this). Our total bill was over £200 and it was not worth it at all, we only booked here because Nissi is now closed on Tuesdays and thought let’s try somewhere new instead of Deserie - a mistake. It also shouldn’t be £4.50 for a Coke Zero! Service was ok, a tad slow considering we were the only people in their dining. Overall whoever is reading this, don’t bother, I wouldn’t go back. Go to Nissi, they have a much bigger menu, friendlier staff, better atmosphere and much better value for money! Oh and also, they tried to mark my reservation on open table as a ‘no show’ because I left a review…I have my receipt so don’t try that!

Me and my family went to Meraki this evening and were left feeling disappointed. Firstly, for a family of 8 you would bring more than 8 halved slices of pitta. Secondly the kebabs come with salad, only they don't. Their salad consists of 4 quarters of a cucumber, 2 sliced tomatoes and a few onion slices. Upon arrival, I asked where the salad was, only to be told that was my salad. I was genuinely shocked. Being Greek and going to several Greek restaurants in the area, a salad means a bowl of cucumber, tomatoes, green pepper, onions, feta. That was exceptionally poor. Secondly, I ordered the pork souvlaki- very over cooked and extremely chewy and dry. I still cannot believe they charge £17 for this. Overall it was a poor experience, the food took a long time to arrive, and even asking for the bill took a long time, a general flat vibe in the restaurant. We thought we'd try this restaurant as our usual Greek restaurant is closed on a Tuesday. Lesson learnt- stick to what you know.

Poor waiting staff, non attentive and had to regularly raise my hand to get her attention in a virtually empty restaurant. Chicken and lamb had been over cooked resulting in dry chewy meat along with burnt vegetables. Gyros were off the menu. Extremely overpriced, poor quality and overall not a good dining experience. Would not return and definitely wouldn't recommend.

After getting recommended this place, my boyfriend and I came here on our date night. The food was absolutely amazing, my boyfriend went for the seafood and I went with the steak, we had a bottle of wine and shared a salad and starter. The owner was so friendly and is more than happy to answer any queries and questions, he asked us if we had any thing we were allergic to. The service was very natural and quick, 10/10 recommended this place if you're looking for a night to remember!

We went for a quiet night out to enjoy the dinner at Meraki restaurant but we find ourselves in the wrong place as the restaurant instead turns to night club with very loud music 🎶 which we feel that should not happen if you presented yourself as a restaurant for dinners not night clubs. It was inappropriate that loud music in the restaurant so we decided to live without finishing our dinner because the environment where we were was not for night club. Never again

A family visit for a special occasion and we were not disappointed. A varied menu with fine service. They did not skimp on the portion sizes to go there hungry. You will not be disappointed.

We selected Meraki to host our sons 18th birthday following a family dinner a month prior. We thoroughly enjoyed the occasion first time around however they truly surpassed themselves. We hired the entire restaurant for our 50 guests of varying ages. The food was superb from the textured tahini and tarama, together with soft halloumi and succulent lounza which formed a small part of the hot and cold starters. The fish I was told was awesome (I'm not a fish eater) and the meat dishes succulent and juicy. With an ever plentiful supply of drink to wash it all down, the staff ensured the evening flowed. They were helpful and accommodating and always with a smile. To top it all was the cost. Fantastic value for money and would recommend for both large parties and just the 2 of you. Thanks again for a wonderful evening. Will visit again soon.

We came here with friends for a first time visit and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. We had a good selection of starters which were very nice but our mains of chicken and lamb souvlaki were dry and lacked flavour. We were very disappointed. However the traditional village salad was lovely and the the sea bass fillets. Perhaps another visit at a later date.

Had occasion to visit this Mediterranean restaurant for an impromptu lunch. A good welcome and friendly greeting from the staff and had a choice of where one wanted to sit. I quite liked the basic / no thrills decor with the place having a relaxed feel and good ambience. The lunch commenced with Kolokithokeftedes (usually lightly fried shredded courgette with feta and herbs) and Pastourma (spicy beef Cyprus style sausages) for starters. The courgette dish came in balls which was okay, but disappointingly lukewarm. The courgette balls were small therefore making the filling limited to get a good taste of it. As for the spicy sausages - this to date - has to be the worst Pastourma I have eaten in a restaurant. First and foremost – the sausages were very tough – why was this? - they also had gristle and an unusual taste - a taste that I would not associate with this particular dish. They certainly lacked the distinct taste and spices that these sausages are known for. The kitchen should try cooking and eating a couple of these sausages and they will know exactly what I mean. If they are already aware of what these sausages taste like, why are they presenting such poor-quality food to diners? The sausages when served did look good and appetising, but they were actually dreadful and truly sub-standard. The starters also came with a sparse portion of tzatziki served with pitta bread. For the main dish I had chicken souvlaki served with side dishes comprising of chips, pilafi rice and Greek village salad. The chicken dish was good quality and there was a hint of oregano marinate, but apart from that it was bland. The chips were very good indeed with a golden crisp finish probably being attributed to being cooked more than once. The pilafi rice - meagre in portion size - was bland and nondescript. To me this was plain white rice with colouring, nothing more. The salad was plentiful, lightly dressed but under seasoned and there was overkill with both the tomatoes and finely chopped onions. Apart from the glaring imbalance of these two ingredients the salad was of good quality. After the starter and main courses, you needed a dessert so decided to have strawberry cheesecake which was insipid. This had a light filling but I’m afraid very meagre in portion size. Four mouthfuls and it was gone. Being charged £5.95 you can work out how much a mouthful cost. Apart from the abysmal quality of the Pastourma the restaurant serves good quality food, but I found some of it bland and under seasoned. With the Pastourma whether it’s made in-house or sourced externally how can you get it so wrong. One didn’t bring it to the attention of the restaurant as they don’t in general (i.e. restaurants) like any criticism of their food especially when you are there eating it and would have probably generated bad vibes (as it usually does) for the rest of the meal. This is what usually happens when you complain. It’s also not cheap eating here for just two people. Ok....it’s London (though North London), one had starters, mains, one dessert and a soft drink. There was no alcohol, tea/coffee or liquors and the bill was just under £70 - which is very expensive for what it was and certainly not good value for money!!
