Menu Gordon Jones in Bath and North East Somerset

We have eaten here previously on several occasions and the ambience and food never fails to disappoint. The ability to conjure up new ideas and flavours is truly special and Chef GordonJones and his team are clearly extremely talented. The surprise tasting menu is great fun with each dish explained in some detail when served. Much love and time must go into every course and all courses were exceptional. Amelia has a huge knowledge of wines and both her and her team are excellent. The music choice is also first rate ! A very special restaurant.

Absolutely fantastic. The staff are amazing and Gordon pops out for a chat too. Service is by far the best in the Bath area, very friendly and attentive. The food is mind blowing. Super impressed by the whole experience. Definitely going again. Can’t fault this place 1 iota. Gordon and staff, give yourself a pat on the back, an excellent experience which I will definitely do again very soon.

Nos dieron nuestra elección de mesa y nos sentamos junto a la ventana, en el lado opuesto a la cocina abierta. El servicio fue genial durante todo el día, con casi todo el mundo llegando a la mesa en algún momento. Tuve el vuelo del vino y mi esposa tuvo el no alcohólico. Obviamente, han dedicado mucho tiempo a eso porque cada uno era muy superior al jugo de fruta, como cosas que obtenemos normalmente (vivimos en un país seco) y probé por primera vez un vino desalcoholizado. Muy interesante y claramente un lugar conocedor de lo que están sirviendo. Cada plato estaba muy bien presentado - el pan para el primer plato fue un punto culminante para mi esposa, ya que le recordó a un amigo de la infancia. Todo el menú obviamente tenía mucho pensamiento y un reflejo de la experiencia de vida del chef. Parecía que estábamos azotando los primeros cursos bastante rápido, pero el ritmo era realmente puntual y nunca nos apresuramos. Es absolutamente el tipo de lugar donde puedes sentarte y ponerte en manos del personal y pasar un buen rato. Gritar a la lista de reproducción que también tenía claramente un montón de pensamiento en ella. Le dije a Gordon que debería ponerlo en Spotify. Definitivamente es un restaurante muy chulo e imagino que puedes ir 10 veces y tener una comida diferente cada vez. Genial.

Have been here twice now and thoroughly enjoyed the experience both times. The food is sublime and the atmosphere is great. Excellent staff, gorgeous decor and wouldn't hesitate to come again or recommend to others. Thank you GJ :)

Food was perfect, wine was perfect, Gordon was perfect, maître d was perfect. Personally, I would prefer having the bread and seaweed butter/ jam keep coming rather than just one because they are so good.

Everything about this restaurant is highly individual and personal. Gordon uses the best local produce to create superb, flavorsome and unique dishes. Every course is a delightful surprise. The service is great, again friendly, personal and individual. The china and serving dishes are all individual, superbly crafted and matched carefully to the food. Wine list is great with mainly wines you won't find elsewhere. (We had a superb fizz from Canada this visit, as good as many champagnes at less than half the price.) Even the music is very Gordon (no standard playlists here). It may look very ordinary from the outside but nothing about this place is ordinary. It's superb.

This is literally the best restaurant we've ever been to. From the moment we walked in to be greeted by Gordon and staff by name, to our last goodbyes, we were treated impeccably. The ambiance was fantastic, the music and decor so fun and added to the over all experience. It was such a happy place! Lastly, the food was absolutely perfect! It was so creatively and beautifully plated and tasted even better. We literally savored every single bite! We are from the U.S. and I would plan a trip back to Bath, simply to have this experience again. Gordon is truly an artist and his team was dedicated, kind and so professional. Worth every penny and more.

We've been to many top restaurants around the world, including many with Michelin stars. This is hands down our favourite!

First visit since last summer, during which time we’d discovered Andrew Sheridan’s in Liverpool, which whilst excellent, still hasn’t quite lodged Bear Flat’s finest as my fave UK restaurant. Simply put, Gordon and Amelia are a genius couple, in terms of pulling together different taste explosions. In case it isn’t clear, Gordon does a different menu every day, which Amelia has to ensure can be beautifully matched with her wine cellar - which she does. We visited for lunch last Saturday, looking to banish the mid-January blues, safe to say, mission accomplished. The bacon and cabbage soup was the epitome of winter comfort food, but with Gordon’s inimitable touches, with unreal homemade sourdough bread, and, drum roll, homemade Hungarian honey truffle butter 🤣. The trout and cod dishes were absolutely delicious, amongst the numerous ingredients that Gordon details when he serves the courses, just a little Lobster bisque thrown in with the trout, unreal flavours. You have to tolerate a bit of Gerry Cinnamon on the playlist (😄), but the other songs make up for it. We will see you guys again before 2025 is too much older 👍.

GREAT tasting menu style dinner. Hip vibe in a cool little place. It was relaxed but upscale. Staff and service were amazing. Food is outstanding in presentation and flavor. Definitely a food highlight of our trip. Chef/owner is super cool! Check out their front door.

Most amazing restaurant I've ever been too 5* from me. The food was pure heaven, explosion of beautiful flavours. You must book a table.

We had high expectations after reading the reviews and we were not disappointed! Really cool little restaurant, an intimate setting and a really good atmosphere. It is always a good sign when you walk in and there aren't any spare tables. This can affect the ambience of a small restaurant however good the food is, so we were impressed from the off. Very good playlist all night. The surprise menu was a really good experience, we would tend to book a restaurant after studying the menu significantly, especially with a tasting menu as you want to be trying new dishes and unusual flavour combinations - Menu Gordon Jones certainly delivered on this. Faultless menu, we couldn't find a criticism for any of the dishes all very high calibre and beautifully presented. Our favourite dish was the fish dish - Gurnard in a yoghurt based curry sauce which was unbelievably good, did not want to leave a drop of the sauce! Also excellent value for money, a lot of fine dining restaurants can tend to upsell and also put an uncomfortable service charge percentage on the bill. Service charge was not included on the bill which we thought was a nice touch, obviously we did leave a tip as we had a great evening and the service was exceptional but it's nice to have the choice. Highly recommend!

Perfect meal. This restaurant is on a quiet street just outside the city center of Bath. It’s a small and cozy spot, with a very attentive staff. Each course was well presented and explained by those serving us. The meal was incredible. Each course was so delicious, we kept raving about the squid, the rollies, the soup… literally everything we ate. We found the meal to be such an unforgettable experience and something we would come back for again should we be in Bath another time.

Unbelievable meal here on 04/12, was unreal and great surprise to get a Rolly after having missed them for the last year living in Bath! Fantastic chef and exceptionally tentative staff making the meal worth every penny! Cheers loon!

Consistently the best food, service and experience in Bath!!

A fabulous tasting menu experience. Seven dishes of excellence, from soup, fish and meat along with a cheese dish and a surprising sweet. Every dish is served in its own unique dish and cutlery with explanations of the dish from the waiters and waitresses and from the owner who clearly oversees this experience and interacts with his diners. You also receive a takeaway menu. The decor is quirky especially the WC and the music reflects the owners taste. There is a great choice of wines and we found a bottle of white that was suitable for our feast. This was a lovely treat, unique, so worth the expense for a special occasion.

No tomamos el vuelo de vinos, pero tuvimos un fabuloso Prosecco rosa o dos, un par de botellas de Pinot Noir y un par de Gruner Veltliner. Algunos de nosotros también tomamos una copa de un moscatel encantador. Y también tomamos algunos cócteles de whisky. Basta decir que nos fuimos con el humor más maravilloso después de haberlo pasado muy bien. Es un pequeño restaurante peculiarmente decorado con asientos muy cómodos y personal muy comprometido y servicial. Una joyita fuera de los caminos trillados en Bath. Una visita obligada pero reservar con mucha antelación.

A small, atmospheric venue with amazing and attentive staff. Have to call up the restaurant for a booking and easy to let them know of any allergie/intolerance/dietary restrictions(quite accommodating as well!). The 7 course surprise menu lived up to the mystery, the bread in a bag with soup is all I want to eat all the time now! (Pictures will be added) We also had an amazing, sweeter orange wine, it went really well with all of the dishes. We had a voucher and only spent £40 on the bottle of wine, but I do believe it is £100 per person.

Sin embargo, el comportamiento de Gordon Jones fue bastante tóxico. Cometimos el error de preguntar sobre si la ‘natilla estilo Birds’ que aparece en uno de los postres era vegana (no por las dietas sino porque históricamente siempre lo fue) y GJ nos dio una conferencia sobre cómo no acomoda a nadie con dietas y cuánto le disgustan los veganos (! ) No es realmente para lo que vinimos aquí y fue bastante molesto escucharlo despotricar.

A vibrant atmosphere livened by excellent music choices & Gordon Jones’ own special sense of humour. Most importantly, brilliant taster menu and a great wine flight. My best eating out experience in Bath so far. Interestingly, this restaurant is slightly out from the city centre, located in the vibrant suburb of Bear Flats. It’s easily reached though & well worth it. Thanks… we’ll be back!

Great spot for a top notch dining experience. We had the courses explained for each one and could not fault any of them. The atmosphere is lively and the music was to my taste, not sure about other diners. The drinks, in the main, blended well with the plates we experienced. After discussion, neither I nor my wife could rank the dishes as they all had something special. Well done to Gordon and his team. A splendid dining experience, we are actively searching for something the similar locally. If we head back to Bath, we will definetely rebook.

A very intimate setting with only 16 diners. Perfect ambiance and charm. Each dish was absolutely stunning, full of flavour. We have been to many 1 and 2 Michelin star restaurants and this was just as good, if not better. £100 a head for the tasting menu seems ridiculously cheap compared to other venues and we will definitely be coming back.

WOW!! From the moment we arrived this place blew me away - the food was incredible and a delight on all the senses, it not only looked fantastic, it smelt and tasted unreal! Every course was exceptional and you could see the passion that went into creating the menu. We loved the playlist in the background, the intimate setting and the wine recommendation - I would 100% recommend and would love to return if we're ever back in Bath!

We have wanted to eat at MGJ since it opened and a thoughtful and generous gift made that happen. What an experience. We were greeted by Gordon himself and invited into the cosy and comfortable dining room. Every course was exceptional, most presented and described by one of the chefs, and the imagination and creativity in each was incredible. Service was impeccable and friendly throughout and an added bonus was a table in sight of the amazingly calm and efficient kitchen. Great wine at reasonable prices too. Could not recommend the experience more.

Having a toddler means that my partner and I rarely go out together alone. We were gifted vouchers for this place and l had no idea that it was a tasting menu. This is not something my partner and I have ever experienced and after the we had finished we both agreed this was one of our best dining experiences. Each dish tasted exquisite and each one beautifully presented. The staff and atmosphere were perfect. Would highly recommend 👌

Can't recommend this place enough, great food and service.

We visited for dinner when my girlfriend was over from the US. The food was superb and the accompanying wines were really inspired. The whole experience was made exceptional by the wonderful humour and excellent service. It was perfect.

First trip to Bath since February, and this is still my fave UK restaurant, 6th visit in 18 months. Combining the bread (and butter) and soup is obviously simple, but as they were previously served separately, a new one for us, and blindingly, obviously, brilliant. Saturday lunch this time, and apart from the soup, the pate dish and especially the tortellini, were stand outs. Amelia did her usual (superb) thing with the wine pairing, and the sound-track only featured 1 Gerry Cinnammon song 🤣. Alas, we already have several trips lined up during the rest of 2024, so probably won’t be back until 2025 - looking forward to the best winter warmer food in January or February. 👍.

My girl friend booked me a surprise birthday meal at menu Menu Gordon Jones and wow it did not disappoint. Gordon welcomed us into his restaurant and was extremely friendly and rather funny! The food was absolutely impeccable and it was a really nice touch that the chefs would come and explain each dish of the tasting menu. The service from all the staff was also impeccable and they were very delightful and friendly. The ambience of his restaurant was something I’ve never experienced before from the decor of the restaurant to the toilet! Yes the toilet it’s most definitely the best toilet I have been into in my entire life. Many thanks to Gordon and his team for such a fantastic experience and also my girlfriend for taking me there ❤️ You have to try his food as it’s absolutely sublime! Oh nearly forgot to mention the rhubarb water it was like a thousand angels dancing on my tongue 😜

Hands down the best dining experience I’ve had. (Albeit I’ve been here numerous times over numerous years). From the first visit in 2020 to my most recent in May this year it’s consistently delivered not only in flavour but surprise, quality and the atmosphere is second to none. Gordon has the most amazing humour which as a Welsh girl I can’t help but love. His passion for food you can see in every single detail. Will be a forever customer!

Our first time but guaranteed it won't be our last. Not only was the food spectacular, but the staff were amazingly friendly. Having the title chef serve and explain some of the dishes (with zero stuffiness and good humour) gave it a truly personal touch. HIGHLY recommended.

An honest review of our experience. Our daughter bought us a taster menu for £180, which overall as ok, but far from what I would say: 'excellent' or even very good. The music was very loud and not in keeping. The surroundings eclectic, but not in a good way and very tight in terms of space. The wine list was very limited unless you wanted to take out a mortgage. Why does high cost have to equate to high valve -such ridiculous prices. You can get reasonably priced wine that's very good below £25 or £30. However, the bad taste in our mouth was the additional £20 we had to pay due to rising cost of produce. That's an insult and they should be ashamed. Do prices come down if the cost of produce drops?? The only redeeming aspect was the staff who were very attentive and very helpful.

Absolute banger of an experience. Hit after hit of dishes like they were dropping their greatest hits all night. Service was next level, food was double nectar and the chat from the kitchen staff was a hellova treat at the table throughout the night. That’s how you restaurant. Can I give 6 stars? Thanks team!

This is the go to place to spend any special occasion (or for any fabulous night out for that matter!). Gordon and Amelia are fabulous hosts, your taste buds get the full on experience and the wine flight is a wonderful addition perfectly complimenting Gordon gastronomic delights.! True perfection !

This place....is insane! How a chef can produce SEVEN courses, served blind, and achieve perfection, is beyond my comprehension. And I'm far from easy...I'm proper pernickety about my food. But the food in this place doesn't have any flaws. NOT ONE! Standing ovation for chef Jones please!

Subliminal food. Excellent service. Great atmosphere and ambience. first visited here in 2020, and have been trying to return ever since (we don’t live in the area). Finally persuaded my husband to take a return mini-break in Bath, and the first reservation I made, even before I booked a hotel, was menu Gordon Jones! Sometimes when you return to a place you’ve previously enjoyed, it’s not the same as you remembered. Not the case here! It was every bit as wonderful as I remembered. Gordon is a rare talent, and his food combinations are exquisitely delicious. Their wine is also second to none. I really cannot recommend this place any more highly.

We have been going to MGJ a few times over the years and usually the food is gorgeous. However, every so often some of the course were not that great or too salty. The wine menu is short which is not bad in it-self but the wine choice is odd and some of it rather poor.

That was a wonderful surprise tasting menu! The dishes were fun and imaginative, the service was stellar, and the atmosphere was comfortable and relaxing.

Fabulous. Great atmosphere, food is out of this world. I went for a meal with my business partner and soup to nuts, the best meal I’ve had in yonks. Michelin need to starting handing out the stars. If I compare this to the 1 Michelin star French classic restaurants in London, it’s honestly light years ahead. Creative and inspired cooking, delivered with a personal touch direct from the head chef. The size of the restaurant helps, I can’t think of any dining experience where you are face to face with head chef and multiple times during the meal. It’s not only a lovely touch, it adds to the experience hugely. Highly recommend! 💯 100% 5*

Service is excellent. Food too, however I feel it's nowadays rather overcharged with 100£ per head just for the 7 courses. You get only small portions which fine, but the pork dish for instant contained only one very small piece, size of a pepperoni slice, delicious though. Disappointing was the wine. We tried 2 different reds and one white and did not particular liked any. Also not sure about the big live sex show sign. We have been in this restaurant a few times. Not sure whether we will go again as value for money is not convincing.

Friendly atmosphere and OK overall. Nice mix of tasting courses. Unfortunately, some were rather salty and spoiled the overall experience.

What a fabulous experience, a small knit team with exceptional front of house and cooking skills. Each dish was crafted with care and delivered with passion; the wine flight a wonderful accompaniment and the brilliantly eclectic music flight was thrown in for free.

Our meal at Menu Gordon Jones was stunning. The food and menu choices were delicious and beautifully presented- we loved that it was all a surprise too. The service here was amazing, what began with a warm welcome from the chef himself opening the door for us to escape the rain, to the brilliant waitress, it was all flawless. A trendy and cool vibe in a relaxed and intimate atmosphere with unparalleled attention to detail. Couldn’t recommend enough!

I don't know where to start! exceptional from start to finish. my wife took me here for my 50th, I do like my food, and this venue did not disappoint, from start to finish we were at ease and enjoyed every mouthful. decent people serving us pieces of art on our plate, explaining every dish. we left with a smile on our faces and a belly full of food. we will be back. keep being you and doing what you do!

This place is an absolute must visit if you like great food, great atmosphere and great people. My wife and I went as a treat whilst in Bath for the weekend and it was honestly the best meal and restaurant experience we have ever had. We will be back!!

We love this place. I remember coming way back when it first opened and we had the most amazing chocolate bread course, it sounds weird but it worked so well. We have been back many times and the staff, food, and of course the legend Gordon never fail to impress.

JUST GO - substantial, high quality, imaginative and delicious food. All courses were explained by the chefs, we did the wine pairing too, which included a number of wines we didn't know. Probably the best 1 star we have been to anywhere , not just in uk. My only suggestion would be to slow the time between the 7 courses a touch. We will definitely be back. Service faultless.

The chef very humbly welcomed us in. The atmosphere was very welcoming and cozy, and the decor happy and rebellious. Excellent music, open kitchen, the bathroom sarcastic and hilarious. Food: divine. The finest layering, fresh and not pretentious whatsoever. With one sentence: fine anti-conformist dining. We are DEFINITELY going back.

A five star, fine dining experience with a staff that isn’t into themselves. Flavors were mixed and varied, the presentations were delightful, and the service was superb. Too good for Michelin.

This was a gift for my wife and I. It was a great experience from being greeted by the chef at the door to being served by a kitchen chef with details of what you are about to eat. A small intimate venue the drinks are very reasonable which was a surprise but the meal was as much as we've ever spent on food. It was as good as food should be. And to be honest was 90% of what I would expect anywhere, short of McDonald's, but definitely in any self respecting restaurant. However you never get it and you have to pay this amount to have a decent evening. The staff are all friendly and can give you all the attention you need without ever being too attentive. I'd say it's about as perfect as you could want. It's a lot of money and I find it difficult to suggest it's good value unless your hobby is dining out. It was an amazing gift and exceptional because of that fact. As a monthly treat, I wish I could afford it.

3 years ago my wife and I had the pleasure of discovering MGJ during our vacation which then became our go to restaurant on each possible visit, the food was the most created with equal flavors. Unfortunately, this last experience (Sept 2023) showed a different creative direction and although the flavors were still there with each course, the creativity and originality had disappointedly diminished that we cannot now justify the overall experience against the $$$$ - staff are still extremely friendly, knowledgeable and very accommodating, especially Gordon

Had such a lovely meal. Great service, amazing and inventive food (the mackerel and rhubarb was heavenly) and the chefs take pride in their work, are happy to chip in with service and have a chat about their food.

Never had a taster menu before so uncertain what to expect. Eight courses which were a surprise and incredibly delicious with each plate being described by the chef. Each course was accompanied with wine again described by a very knowledgeable wine waitress. If in Bath again would like to go again.

Totally different menu to 2020 when last here. Fabulous. Exciting, different, and engaged staff who clearly love what they're delivering.

We had the surprise tasting menu (it's all they offer) with the flight of wine. An amazing experience from start to.finish. I've never experienced food like it, the whole meal was eaten with a smile. The pace is leisurely and the service unfussy with food delivered to the table by the chefs. The wines matched perfectly to each dish. The stand out dish was the chicken and prawn tortelini. I'd eat there every month if I could afford to!

Amazing food and staff were super attentive! 100% would come back! Only thing I'd say is please remove the trippy mirror from the bathroom above the sink and just have a normal one there.

Unbelievable experience from start to end. Gordon is a real showman from the explanation of the food to the tastefully decorated interior. Not to mention the creative and well-thought out menu of delicious and exciting flavours. It was all over too quickly and I can’t wait to go back.

An exotic taster menu which is a novel way of celebrating special occasions. Perhaps the service was a bit too fast but food and friendliness were faultless.

I had a surprise treat for my Birthday. I wanted to go here for a very long time. It was amazing. From the minute we arrived it was a treat. We did the 9 course taster menu with wine flight. ( lunch time) The venue is quirky, the chefs knowledgeable and Amelia friendly and really helped us understand the wines. Highly recommend. This is a must xx

We loved our first visit to MGJ. The Decadent December menu is delicious! Amazing flavours in a cosy and festive atmosphere. Gordon and his team are welcoming, knowledgeable and attentive. Perfect place to celebrate 🥂
