So glad I came to this amazing gem. Authentic Malaysian food. Generous portion so no worries you will be left hungry still after your visit. We had the nasi kandar, flooding with curry and the sambal belachan was just superb. The nasi ayam is recommended too. Teh tarik, just nice - sweet but not overly so. Pak Azie, the owner is friendly and helpful. So willing to share his recipes, terima kasih! If you want authentic Malaysian food, this is the place. Even have Hacks sweets at the till for the home away from home feel.

We went to Melur especially for the Ramadan iftar buffet - everyone sat and waited to break their fast together and it was such a sweet, family-like atmosphere. Brilliant food spread, lots of Malaysian dishes I hadn't tried before and a few familiar ones too (chilli crab!), and also an extensive dessert spread as well as hot and cold drinks. Service was great, staff were on hand to answer any questions and were friendly and attentive. We noticed a couple of families with small children were also there and they seemed to also really enjoy themselves. If you want authentic, homely Malaysian food in London, highly recommended! Will definitely be back outside of Ramadan too.

We went there on Christmas day . That was yesterday. Four of us in the group. Since we came here before we decided to go back again. However ,this time is not very good. We waited for 30 min before the food arrived. 2 of our dishes came late and the prices soared high. I know it's Christmas but ... When we got the receipt the service charge was 9.79 X2 😮 .. Is this a service charge for Christmas?? I mean yeah, they are friendly 👍 but waiting for 30min and a delay of some orders is not good .

They can’t cope on busy evenings which previous reviews have mentioned Ordered the nasi ayam and the daging black pepper beef which was decent but nothing special Had items on our bill that we didn’t order They charge for ‘bottomless tap water’ They include a service charge and the card machine then asks for a tip.

Interior down a flight of stairs, lacks daylight- a rather large space. Soulless ambience. Ordered the Nasi Kandar- Presentation of food was terrible- looked awful when first arrived and nothing like the photo in the menu. It looked like a total Food mess! Chicken fried, absolutely tasteless! - batter was too thick and the chicken was blend, not marinated. The Sauce on rice was nice but made the whole dish look like an absolute mess! Sambal was excessively sour, cabbage was blend as well. All in all was very unimpressed with this version of Nasi kandar . Service was ok.

We spontaneously decided to try out Melur on a Friday night, our group of 7 were seated right away and the service was friendly from the get go. Ordered Roti Canai which was delicious and the Kari Laksa reminded me of home. I would definitely come back here again. The food was great, arrived in good time and the service was great too. Went there as wanted to try another Malaysian place in London. Ordered the Char Kway Teow and Chendol. The Char Kway Teow was nothing to shout home about. Portion was small and for some reason they included greens and a lemon on the side as part of the dish. Not authentic! Regarding the Chendol, when this did not arrive after 20 minutes (after receiving the Char Kway Teow first), I queried this with the server who then spoke to somebody else and he simply said whilst passing me "not available today". Did not even offer me the choice of something else or apologise. If it is not available, then say so at the start, Not really that difficult. Whilst I am used to "bad" service at Chinese restaurants and often just pass it off, the whole experience at Melur was disappointing and will not be going back again.

Booked for dinner here after strong recommendations from Malaysian friends and it did not disappoint! I saw several parties of Malaysians dining the moment I walked down to the restaurant and I knew the food was going to be authentic. I had the Nasi Kandar which was AMAZING!! I would even say it was better than some of the Nasi dishes I had in Malaysian and South East Asia! My friend had the Nasi Lemak which was good but not as good as the Nasi Kandar. It was all very reasonable priced which is a bonus. The service was really friendly too, although I do agree with the other reviews that it took a long time for the food to arrive, which is surprising for a weekday evening, but the food was worth the wait. The restaurant is a bit ran down though and needs a bit of TLC, so it's probably not that suitable for a special occasion or dates. But the food is so excellent I would definitely return!

You would walk straight past in on Edgware Road if you didn't know to look for it... It is most certainly not a grand, fine-dining experience as you descend into a subterranean room which is the restaurant. But wow, what an absolute treasure chest of incredible Malaysian dishes. I have been back a number of times and I've yet to be disappointed with anything that we've ordered. On average, we spend about £18-20pp and you will feel not only comfortably full, but deeply satisfied with the sheer deliciousness of their dishes when you leave. Naturally, there is no alcohol served on site, but if you would like a tipple with your meal, the staff are very happy to cater glasses etc if you would like to BYOB (no corkage is charged). Their laksas, chilli crab, sambal goreng terung and nasi ayam penyet are all firm favourites. I will keep coming back to Melur time and time again Terima kasih!

I visited Melur with my family for dinner one night while we were staying in London, we found that the service was quick and friendly and the food tasty. I had Pad Thai which was the best Pad Thai that I have every had, it was just the right amount of spice and tasted fresh and hot. My mum enjoyed a crispy tofu salad. For London the prices were really good and it didn't cost the earth to have dinner. The only problems we found was that the actual restaurant was a little dungeon like, as it was in a basement and it smelled damp. Also as it got busier we noticed that other people food took a long time to come out, so I suggest you go earlier in the evening to have speedy service.

Found this place tucked away on Edgware Rd after a long day. We decided to go in as we wanted to try something completely different IE Malaysian cuisine. We weren’t at all disappointed with what we received for the prices we paid. The food was flavoursome and portions were good. The only let down is a lack of atmosphere as it’s essentially underground and the decor is very claustrophobic. Other than that, everything else was great (service, food, wait times) We got to talk to the owner at the end who seems like a friendly man that’s passionate about his food. Worth a try for sure if you’re after a new taste.

I don’t understand all the positive reviews - I know Pak Awie had quite a reputation but our lunch was beyond poor. First up, the manager was polite and took our order efficiently so no complaints on the service. The menu looked substantial with all the Malay classics available. We went for Menu C. Unfortunately all the food was immensely bland and did not taste fresh at all. I tasted no ginger, kefir lime leaves or lemongrass or in fact any Asian spices. It is so far from anything that resembles Malaysian food that I’m shocked. Afterwards we thought to check the food hygiene rating - 1 out of 5!! That is pathetic and shows that whoever is running this place cares little about the quality of what they’re serving. My suggestion: avoid! Hopefully one day this place will improve because there really aren’t enough Malay options in London.

The desserts must be the highlight of this restaurant. Kueh dadar, chendol and sago pudding were truly authentic. So is the roti canai which comes with a very tasty curry.

Insano. ¿Cómo pueden incluso pagar el alquiler aquí?El personal era totalmente dulce. Debería estar más ocupado. I have been to this Malaysian Restaurant several times in the past with Malaysian friends. Not having been there for more than a year or more, I was looking forward to a good tasty filling meal. Unfortunately when the orders came through, I thought they were small! My meal of spicy noodles, chicken and seafood (if I remember correctly) was not hot enough. It was not what I call spicy either. My friend's meal was also a complete let down. My reaction when the dishes were brought to the table ''they are so small'' and that is exactly what they were! Very disappointed as it was an awful evening and a good meal was what we wanted! We will not be going back. Come across to this restaurant by chance. Have not been eating any Malay dishes for the past 3 weeks and we missed home cooked dishes. I would say that the price is a little bit steep but when you are away travelling in London and miss home cooked food anyone wouldnt mind paying the extras.A rather small restaurant at a juction, you might not have noticed it. Tried these dishes;Nasi Goreng Nonya - A non spicy Chinese style fried rice. It's a huge serving but other than that I would say it is a bland dish.Tahu Telor - My personal favourite and the dish that save the day.Chicken Curry - Authentic malay flavour, a must try!Seafood Thai Tom Yam - Not bad.

Dying for a Malaysian we popped along to MELUR on the edgware road. After going down the stairs to the basement, we proceeded to order a meal for 4. We ordered the ginger chicken, (very poor quality frozen chicken breast). Chicken satay (chewy chicken thigh). Roti canai was next, nice gravy but frozen roti refried and very oily. We paid, and on the way out when asked "how was the meal" told the manager about our view on the chicken ( I'm in the catering trade by the way) she replied that the boss buy's the chicken.

We went on a quiet Saturday afternoon for lunch. Delicious fried rice, marinated chicken and fried tofu with bean sprouts and peanut sauce. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed, so we could have a good conversation while having our food. Service was great. Plenty of options for vegetarians. I will be coming again.

If this were a review for canteena, than it deserved a 4 star, But this a restaurant and it fell short on many fronts. For those who badly miss belacan and soy sauce, this restaurant was NOT short of. In fact there was an overwhelmirng dose of soy sauce in most dishes. The quality of ingredients need improvement. The Roasted lamb were low quality cuts, drenched in soy sauce and oil. The same with the baked mackerel. At Billingsgate Market fresh fish were aplenty and cheap, so margins could still be maintained. White rice at 2,50 pp per plate before tax was a killing. Do not make money from such basic stuff, that is a rip off. Make money from good food, from innovation, from creation.

We ordered the nasi lemak, mee goreng Mamak, char keow teow and beef rendang and steamed rice. They were all delicious!!! My son was particularly pleased with his beef rendang - it was just like at home. The seating was in a basement but had a nice ambience to it. The new owners who had just taken over the joint in August 2016 were particularly nice and welcoming.

Yummy yummy yummy....dont look at the price...because pound is so expensive...but the food is dying for. Even in malaysia cannot compared the food at Melur. Pak Awie is so friendly. His family also friendly. Had a nice chit chat with his grand daughter. My kids love the ayam percik. Big portion of coz. During our holiday last week, we stayed at Hilton London Metropole and it is only 3 minutes walk from our hotel. Definitely will be back.

The best place for me and my friends to cure our homesick. First, the location is the best where its only 10 mins walk from oxford street. Second, the food is the bomb if you are looking for spicy food. My favorite dish is "Ayam berlada hijau", "kangkung balacan", and "bedigil jagung". My favorite drinks is "ice bandong" or if you are looking for hot drinks you can try "hot teh tarik"And third, the place is very good for big groups of people where they also have a private room that can accomodate approximately 40-50people.Overall, Melur

I went along to this event and experienced my first taste of Malaysian cuisine and I was truly blown away with the great food that was served all night. My taste buds were literally dancing around on my tongue with the spiciness and deliciousness of all the flavours from the amazing chicken, prawns, coconut rice, etc. After tasting the wonderful Malaysian cuisine I had I would definitely eat Malaysian food again and I would definitely visit this place again if in the area but its like a treasure trove as quite hidden inbetween the scaffolding that is up and hidden due to fact the restaurant is set downstairs but neverless people do know about it as went along on a Tuesday night with fellow Yelpers and it was packed full of locals. The new owners of the place and other staff are all very nice and very welcoming which made the whole night more of a very pleasurable one. I highly recommend to anyone to go and eat there to experience some the Malaysian food.

Best Malaysian and Asian food in London. Saya jamin.

Under new management since Aug 2016, make no comparison to previous tenure or, for that matter, the competition. Coming from a person raised in Singapore, and having lived 8 years in Brunei, Borneo, I know my Malaysian cuisine, and it's pretenders, I consider myself, a very sad, but noteworthy, self confessed, compulsive Satay aficionado. I live on the coast in Portsmouth and travel anywhere for authentic Malaysian cuisine - anywhere, London is the nearest location. I have visited most of the listed and established 'reviewed' Satay restaurants in London and can say without fear of contradiction, almost all of the reviews are flawed at best and 'questionable' to say the least. The 'litmus' test, and you can do and confirm this for yourself, when next you pick up the phone of an 'alleged' Malaysian restaurant, is to ask the question "do you have beef satay on your menu?" the answer will be an assuredly and emphatic - 'no'! That's like walking into a traditional Fish & Chip shop and being told, "sorry, we don't do cod!" Why? Because, quite simply, to produce truly inspirational, succulent, tender, mouth watering beef satay of the Melur, and, of course, the consummate accompanying 'peanut sauce', you first of all have to know the FAMILY time honoured recipe and how to cook it to perfection on a char grill or in a clay oven - they obviously can't!!! I've tasted better shoe leather in Timpson's! The Melur produces their beef, lamb and chicken Satay as a signature dish, it is the closest experience to actually sitting in a restaurant in Malaysia. Your hosts, Ahmad and Jamilah, (may be known to you previously as Pak Awie) are exemplary in the genuine warmth of their culture that embraces you instantly. They don't so much have 'customers', they have friends, and long may they continue to do so. Inshallah.

If you like authentic Malaysian specialties, i recommend you to try this restaurant. Although the entrance is, for the moment, not very appealing (The new Malaysian owner is renovating) when you arrive in the restaurant downstair, you see a simple but relaxing decoration. The service is very friendly and efficient. The food is excellent and quickly served. The vegi were exceptionally fresh (Kang kong balacan). The prices are reasonable. As this restaurant is alcohol free, it is an excellent opportunity to try the local Malaysian drinks, try their teh tarik or their home made ice tea, you will not be desappointed. I will certainly come back. Well done to the new team.

For food, this is one of the best Asian restaurants in London; hands down. So many things to recommend - the chilli crab is a must. Lots of space and lots of tables so ideal for big groups. Very reasonable prices; and with no alcohol served on the menu I recommend the fruit cocktails

As an indonesian, I'd completely disagree with the other indonesian guy below. The food, while authentic, tastes like bad hawker food. If you want authentic but tasteless food, then for it. I'd never return.

As Indonesian, I was so happy to find this restaurant, as it meant we could have normal steam rice.we had roast duck, rendang beef and vegetable. All are very nice and fast in service. However, I must say the price is not that cheap comparing with the Lebanese food we used to have.

Came here for dinner and staff were welcoming. The decor is basic but we came for the food. Perhaps we made the wrong choice in going for the set menu - £29.50 per head seemed very good for 7 dishes. The tong yam soup was good and the mixed platter reasonable. Then 4 dishes were presented with rice - apart from the garlic prawns, the others were quite ordinary (grilled chicken was dry, beef with peppers was chewy and the 'gado gado' was soggy and tasteless). All very disappointing but the waiter from Germany was attentive and lovely.

I visited after a long working day and was looking forward to some flavoursome Malaysian food. It was a fail. The roti canai was very greasy and heavy, as was the curry gravy with a good layer of oil floating on the top. I took rendang beef with coconut rice as a main, the meat was well cook but there was no flavour to the sauce, eatable but that has nothing of Malaysian cuisine. I won't go back and not recommended.

I strongly advise to avoid this place...the staff are incompetent. No card payment facility. The ATM didn’t dispense correct cash. The drinks are awful and the food is terrible at best ! Carlton Lounge is much better for Shesha and food and is in a much better setting, this place is more of a make-shift smokers den at the back of your garden...

I think this place might have closed now. I tried 4/5 to order over the phone then I went down in person but the place was closed. Feel sad that they've closed. Used to enjoy their food

No volveré

We went to Itsu in Victoria for lunch. First off, there was nobody at the counter. No staff to be seen.....they certainly weren't cleaning tables! When the staff member came to the till, our order was taken as we were told, 'stay there it's coming'. A few seconds later, our rice pots were brought out. Cold, hard, rubbery awful. We asked for the toilet code and got, 'it's not working' in a 'couldn't care less' manner. The tables were filthy, the floor was filthy, the whole place did not look cared for. I ate a few mouthfuls before binning it and leaving.
