Experiencia horrible y me sha no volveremos.

Staff seated my family of 4 then stood near the counter just a few yards away. Dead silent in the place and not a soul speaking at any table or we could hear every word. After 15 minutes of this awkwardness, the staff still hadn't come over to our table to provide any service, so we got up and left--had a great meal at POLPO next door!

Very disappointed- we only had a limited time (1 hour) before our show started and explained this to the waiter. He then told us that the table next to us (who had sat down well after us) were in more of a rush and that we would be fine as our show always starts late ( it did not start late- worst advice he could've given- lucky we ignored his out of place advice). They ended up receiving their food well before us and we had to stuff our food in to rush to the show in time. Disappointed that the owner delayed our food over others. The Coke Zero we ordered was completely flat and the chicken was definitely funky. Little veg in our chicken and veg stir fries.

Family run (I think) smallish rather quaint restaurant, with kitchen upstairs and food coming down on dumb waiter. Not so dumb was the ex history lecturer who was front of house and very amiable. Nice to chat and not overbearing. Was alone and felt very welcome (other solos there as well). Nice choice of set menus - food a little sweet for me but very pleasant. Its been around over 20 years so has stood off a lot of competition!

It was the day after my friends birthday we had a crazy night before and was hungover. So when we finally recovered the next day we was hungry, we originally wanted some Chinese but decided to go for Thai and what a mistake that was.We spent about £45 and everything we had was disgusting this is not real Thai food I've been to many Thai restaurants and this by far is the worst in its own League, even though we was hungry we could not eat this the prawns was tasteless the beef looked weird it might not have been beef for all we know. The egg fried rice had a sweet taste and was appalling and look like mish mash, the chicken satay was nasty the spare ribs was nasty. This was the first time my friend had Thai and she does not like Thai food now but I've tried to tell her this is not Thai food. Her first experience having Thai was a bad one but like I said this is not Thai it's horrible if I can give it no stars I would yuck I will never be back.

We wanted an efficient post-theatre meal and Thai pin seemed perfect -- small and not crowded. The prix fixe menu was attractive too -- though both of us were so full after the starters (we chose soup) and the mains (we chose a curry each, and an extra dish of vegetables came with rice) that we skipped the dessert/coffee.The food was fresh and flavourful -- not haute Thai cuisine but pretty well made. The owner was a bonus -- engaged in conversation at every table -- had a lot of interesting stories to tell ranging from theatre to higher education.

Having said at the time of order we would like the food cooked in a proper Thai style, and it was obvious that my partner is a Thai person, it didn't happen. The portions were also very small and the rice tasted old. This restaurant is very small and basic which doesn't reflect the high price. Would not recommend

Went there on a Saturday evening for pre-theatre dinner. The restaurant was busy and the food on the other tables look great, so we gave it a try.The overall ambience is more of a mixture between restaurant (with plastic covered white table cloth) and somebody's crowded living room. Not really my thing, but quite cosy.SERVICEWe had to wait ages for our food. Another couple left before they ordered, as they had to wait so long. A third couple complained that they will miss their show. We got our food just in time so that we could eat it quickly in 10min before rushing to the theatre. We had to ask twice for water and wait for cutlery after we got our food, as the service was so overwhelmed and slow. The waiter complained about some other guests to us and said things like 'It's always manic on saturdays at this time and I was sitting around at 4pm with nothing to do', which I found really inappropriate, especially as he started this conversation. Whoever is running this restaurant, make sure that you have more than 1 waiter at peak times like 6pm on a saturday, when everybody wants to have a quick bite to eat before going to the theatre....FOODWe had prawns with veg and a tofu curry. Presentation was average, taste was good, portion size a bit small. Some of the tofu pieces were quite dry, but overall he food was surprisingly rich in flavors and good.OVERALLOk, but wouldn't go again. At least not when they are busy....

The menu states that because they use fresh ingredients you would have to wait for your food longer than at other restaurants. Unfortunately this probably means less people would go there. Downward spiral.Yes, we did have to wait a long time for our food. And unfortunately it was not particularly well received. The only dish that went down well was the red chicken curry: I liked it. But all in all I’m afraid if I were that way again I’d rather try another restaurant. Sorry.

We were on a short trip to the capital. Booked in advance, found it on google. Very small place ( about 20 covers ) plain decor. We were greeted by a diminutive Asian lady who showed us to a reserved table and took our order. Wine was good and very reasonably priced. The food was fantastic, we had Tom Yum soup to start, I have had this before and like it very much but this was at another level, spicy enough to keep my mouth tingling all through without being overpowering. We then shared two dishes, green Thai curry with king prawns and jasmine rice and spicy pork noodles. They were delicious.I would recommend this to anyone.

Other Thai restaurants were buzzing but had at least 20 mins wait. Starving, we headed for Thai Pin.Outcome:The food is delicious! Lovely, friendly couple who cooked us authentic Thai food. Massaman tasted just like the curry I ate in Bangkok! Summary:Don't judge a restaurant by it's emptiness! Will go back here for sure. Just because it's dead in there, don't let this deceive you.

I went for a meal with my mother yesterday. She enquired about one of the curry sauces, since she had not heard the sauce name before but the meal otherwise looked good. The waitor (older scottish man with long grey hair) gave a long rambling response to say he could not explain. Trying to help, i asked if it was spicy or sweet. The blunt response was, 'look at the menu, 2 chilli symbols'. My mother thought she should play it safe and go for another option, but just enquired if the next option was very sweet, to which the waitor responded, "has anyone ever told you to RTFM, that's read the menu. Look, it says slightly sweet". We should have left at this point, but were too hungry and everywhere else nearby was full. The food eventually arrived 40 minutes later and was mediocre (below average for Thai food in that price bracket in central London and too salty for my taste). We won't return!

Welcome to 1970s Basil Fawlty (without the humour). This is the type of experience we've been trying to shake off in Britain for the last 20 years. The service was slow (nearly two hours for the main) and rude, with lame excuses (Oh, it's Saturday), and no apology. The food was lower than average at best and certainly not worth the extraordinary wait. You might be lucky in a quiet time but this is Covent Garden so it's a chance of time or day. If you want quality service and product forget it. Get yourself a good piece of meat and go to Steak & Co in Leicester Square. The difference in service is astronomical!

Food was well below average for Thai in London - and there are very many better Thai restaurants everywhere. The chicken satay was cold, and after telling the staff it came back simply having been microwaved.Service was very slow, half an hour for the starters and an hour and a half for the very average quality main courses, which was later than the table adjacent to us who ordered after us. When we spoke to the manager about the long wait, he became rather aggressive and said that, "Saturdays should be cancelled" and "you can just leave if you want". This made an average meal into a very unpleasant experience. The staff gave us no apology for the cold starter or for the delay. In fact, the manager made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. We live in London and will never go back to this restaurant. There are so many other far better places to spend your hard earned money! My advice to the unpleasant manager would be to change career. If you are surprised every week that Saturdays are busy in Covent Garden then you may be happier in a different milieu (as will the diners in your restaurant).

Genuinely the worst food/service/atmosphere of any restaurant I've been in. Waiter was unkempt and v slow. Took 15min to bring drinks, and after 50min of waiting for the food we complained. Was met by him slamming chairs, shouting that they aren't fast food etc. Food unfortunately was not worth the wait, nothing like Thai food, just a salty plate of veg/dodgy looking prawns and chicken with some sort of bisto gravy. Most of our groups meal was left untouched. When we came to split the bill, waiter again kicked up a fuss saying it was too complicated for him to divide the bill by 6 and then add it up again. Tired and scruffy small restaurant with an old fashioned fitted carpet and in desperate need of refurbishment. I ordered Jasmin tea; it arrived in a small teapot with lukewarm water and a tiny amount of tea: it felt like I was drinking warm water. The main courses of curry and rice were ok but not great. Half way through the meal, they remember to bring us some (paper) napkins. When we finished our main course nobody came to take away the plates or offer us the dessert menu (assuming that they had one) for a good 15 minutes until we got so fed up, we asked for the bill and left. Two main courses of curry and rice (one vegetatian), one soft drink and a cold pot of tea came to £35.03 including a 'suggested' gratuity. It appears to be a family run restaurant but without any charm.

Left frustrated from a terrible meal and an outrageous price - 40/head. Understandably paying more for covent garden but was expecting even average quality for the premium bill. I love thai food, been there, cook it and get fat on it regularly - what we ate was greasy, cheap quality, boring school dinner food. Awkward setting with waiter peering over, they were pleasant and friendly but just uncomfortable dining. Wanted a good meal with some friends and just felt it spoiled the evening, if they halved the price I still would have felt hard done by. Shame, never again.

We ordered a Massaman chicken curry and a Penang chicken curry both being dishes that I am well familiar with from Bangkok and elsewhere. Well, I might as well have ordered two plates of jam. Both dishes were laced with large quantities of sugar. They were inedible as far as I am concerned. I had to complain . I said I hadn't called in for a desert. One was sarcastic. The other said it was not their restaurant but she would pass my views on to the management. Just why is it that they feel the need to lace their curries with sugar?

Lovely cosy place, Gentlemen serving us was a little unkept, but polite took our order, food was tasty and quite quick. The evening went on and had plenty of laughs and the overal atmosphere was enjoyable until the bill!We were 3 couples and wanted to pay as couples but the gentlemen lost this temper which came as a shock, the service charge that should have been discretionary was a must! As it was late in the evening, so I'm on the understanding that every other table was in the same boat, when we challenged, this was not met in a kind manner. We paid for our food and as u can understand the atmosphere of the group was disappointed. If it was not fore the rude manner of the gentlemen (owner) then they would of had a tip.Things did not seem to normal behind the scenes both times I went to the toilet kitchen staff would hide and the behaviour between the owners and kitchen staff were not normal, as if the should not been seen by joe public ........I'll leave that One to your own imagination!

Ok I should start by saying I was v hungry. The place is tiny. It was packed. The seats were still warm from the last customers. All good? No. The table next to us were berated for not complaining sooner their food was cold. After taking our order the waitress advised us to "just tell me if your food is cold". Hmm we thought. Well the food was hot. That's a plus. The Tom yum soup was way too sweet. The mains were so greasy and smothered in soy. They were also overcooked and limp. Had I not been ravenous I would have left it. Possibly the most dissapointing Thai meal I've ever had

I went into the restaurant as I had been there before with a group of friends and liked the food and the owner was quite friendly. This time round I went with one other person I requested a table for two only for the owner to say that he does not know whether there's any space available. There were two empty tables available for two at the time. After a short while the lady host asked us to come later as they had a booking. I can't help but wonder whether they were honest or whether it was my skin colour that simply put them off. The treatment I got when I went alone from the owner as opposed to when I went with a number of people was definitely different to say the least. Not friendly at all. How would he not know if there is sitting available yet he is at least front of the restaurant at all times???...naturally I walked out of the restaurant and I won't be going back.

We wanted to go to La Perla a few doors down but with a 2 hour waiting list at 6:30 we couldn't wait this long as we were going to see a show. The waitress was friendly but did bring our glasses and wine over then walked away with our wine to serve other people as they're food came out, was a bit odd as wouldn't have taken long to just pour us a couple of drinks. We asked for a ice bucket for our wine, they didn't have one but kept our wine in the fridge and gave us regular top ups which was nice :) they probably do need to get one though ready for later in the nights when it would be busier.Little handmade spring roles to start were nice and crunchy. My vegi curry was lovely, very tasty and a good mix of veg and tofu. All took a long time and we only just made our show at the Adelphi (2 mins away) an hour after entering the restaurant.

This is my favourite Thai place at lunchtime. In the middle of buzzling London it is usually empty when you get there for lunch time (although it fills up later). Yes, it is small, but the food is lovely with good portion sizes and they have a really well priced and good choice lunch menu (starter and main for £8.45).I prefer it when the Thai lady is the host, and the guy stays in the kitchen. She is friendly and will have a chat, but not interrupt your conversation. The guy is slightly different, if he is serving he may insert himself into your conversation when he is not busy...In the evening it is slightly different, a lot busier, and the portions seem to be smaller...If you find yourself near Covent Garden at lunch time however I would always recommen this place!

We went here on a friday evening, it is very small, I had to ask people to move their chairs in to get to our table. The restaurant was so hot it was uncomfortable and the waiter was covered in sweat all over his shirt, front and back which was not a good look for someone serving food.We ordered the mixed starter which was so small, at a cost of 12.95, we could have bought nicer food from Iceland, we are convinced it was not homemade. The chicken satay was cold and nothing of it, ribs so small and dry, won ton, soggy, the spring rolls were so small and thin, the size of a toothpick with no filling, the only piece we could eat was the prawn on toast which was hot.The main dish came out and instead of putting the bowl of rice on the table, it was put on our plates at another table by the waitress, then she bought our dishes, we went for the weeping tiger, special dish with sirloin steak, it came out dry, sliced, and to be honest, I have never seen a dish like it in a thai restaurant, bland and we could not eat it, again, it was cold, the pad thai was sloppy and tasted of aniseed and the chicken was dry and cold. The Massaman curry had flavour and was warm, it had new potatos with their skins on which was different but we could not eat it because of the state of the rest of our meal. There was no presentation and the portion sizes are tiny.We called the waitress/manager over to explain that our food was cold, bland and dry and we could not eat it, she was very rude, she said that she would have to pay for it and abruptly took all the dishes away and gave us a bill for the starters. We questioned the bill as the starters were not edible either and she insisted that we had to pay for something, we had a bill of over £20 for the drinks because it took so long to get served which we were happy to pay and we paid for half of the starters. We left the restaurant and I forgot my umbrella so went back in to get it, she was pushing the door closed on me to stop me coming in, bearing in mind I am quite clearly pregnant. I got in and she was shouting about us to the other customers. The toilets were down a dingy staircase and situated next to the kitchen. This restaurant is very expensive too for what you get, still cannot believe the starters.I have never experienced such a terrible meal or service, or such aggression, in our opinion, they could do with a visit from authorities.

Revisited this unassuming little place on a friday evening with friends. Its nothing fancy but the service is very friendly and the food very good. The tom yam soup was good but I have had better but the pad krapow with pork was outstanding. The toilets are down some dingy stairs and are pretty antiquated and you get the feeling you are in deepest Bangkok. The owner / waitress gave me a complimentary vodka orange due to it being my birthday. The stars at this place are the food and service. Would highly recommend.

This was a fully terrible experience, beyond anything I have ever gone through. I would highly discourage anyone from visiting this restaurant, and cannot believe it has positive reviews on this site. The service was terribly slow, and they took about 30 minutes to approach us to take our order. The whole time we were trying to get the staff's attention, but they were short staffed and she was ignoring us. The menu was clearly overpriced, and not visually appealing. When the food arrived, the Pad Thai was wet, vinegary, and very poorly displayed on the plate. My friend could not eat more than a few bites, and sent it back. My other friend who had ordered the duck also could not eat more than a bite--the duck was not cooked, and the sauce had an off taste. We sent both dishes back, and instead of being apologetic, both waitstaff insulted my friends, claiming that they were wrong about the dishes, and didn't understand Thai food. We have all lived and traveled in Thailand and have eaten great Thai food all over the world, and this was by far the worst by a huge margin (I used to think one couldn't go wrong with Vegetarian Pad Thai -- I now stand corrected). The manager and waitress did not ask if they could do anything to remedy the situation, or bring something else. They took the food back after criticising my friends' taste and knowledge about Thai food.I felt too embarrassed to send all three dishes back, so I forced myself to eat my pad Thai, though it was absolutely not good, and left me feeling slightly ill. When we finally got the bill, they had not removed the charges for the dishes that we had sent back. I went to discuss with the manager, and he continued to say that we didn't understand the food, and that it was our fault we couldn't eat it. He was incredibly rude, and then said that he didn't even work there, and was just helping manage because they were understaffed. His colleague was so embarrassed that she slipped me a bill with the dishes deducted, while the manager continued to complain and shout and suggested that I probably do this at every restaurant I go to. I have personally never sent a dish back, and only seen it done on rare occasions. I have lived in over a dozen countries, eaten at thousands of restaurants, and never have I had such an experience. Thai food is something I regularly enjoy, but this was a terrible experience that I hope no one has to repeat. My friends and I left feeling abused, hungry, and mistreated, and went to look for another place to eat after wasting two hours of our life in this restaurant. I highly discourage anyone from supporting this restaurant, and can't believe they are still in business.

We were looking for something to eat while out and about in the West End and happened to come across this little place. It's a small restaurant (maybe enough room for 30 people?) and looks unassuming. The hostess was friendly and seated us right away. The food was very tasty and prices are also pretty decent for the area. The Tom Yum soup was just the ticket to sort out what seemed like an oncoming cold for me!It was nice and spicy (just how I like it) and by the time we left, my sniffles were cured! (True story!).Do be aware, that if you use the toilet, the hot water is scalding hot! lolAll in all, we really enjoyed the food. I'm always a fan of small restaurants...We will definitely come back again!

Small place with out of order air conditioning. Food over priced and overlooked. What was presented as "duck" was something leatherlike, dry and indeterminate meat? Whole fish purported to be salmon was in fact trout. Sauces accompanying all dishes were both bland and inadequate in quantity and quality Although the only two people serving (one Thai woman the other a European? Man) were friendly enough the service was slow and inattetive. Avoid this place at all costs!

Thai Pin is a very small restaurant located near Convent Market and really a neat find. It is located down a quiet street and has about 12-14 tables. The owner is nice, helpful, and likes to talk. Very welcoming. Menu has lots of items and he is full of suggestions. The food was was just okay this time. Not a lot of flavour given that it is Thai food. Screaming tiger beef was a small portion of cooked beef, thinly sliced, with a small side dish of sauce. Not only was the beef dry, this isn't they way to cook this dish which can be found on almost any Thai food menu. Satay chicken sticks were dry and again the sauce was an after thought. If you know your Thai food, you are looking for some spice, some taste, and some authenticity. For the price, and it is expensive, I would have hoped for more.

This restaurant was a very welcome change from the hustle and bustle of most restaurants in London. It is also a welcome surprise to find an independent restaurant so close to the centre of the capital. As someone who abhors the monopolisation of huge chain restaurants (you know the ones I mean) I was so chuffed to find this place. I was travelling alone and the lone waitress/owner/maître d' could not have been friendlier. Such a lovely kind person, which again was a very welcome change in Central London. The food was outstanding, cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. I would not have hesitated in paying double what the bill actually was. I will absolutely, 100% return. Thank you.

Came here for a work lunch (birthday treat for a colleague) and it's barely visible to the untrained eye if you don't already know where it is. A small sign, on Maiden Lane, protrudes from the display above homing the name ‘Thai Pin’.Entering this restaurant, you notice straight away it is definitely a budget layout that’s surprising for a venue in this part of London. The tables were laid with paper cloth that obviously had been previously sat before. Cutlery and sheets were ‘clean’ but a lazy examine is enough to uncover specks of dirt dotted around. The proprietor was very attentive, I must admit, however for a group of 8 in a restaurant which was otherwise empty – you wouldn’t really expect any less.I got the set lunch menu (£8.50), which consisted of a starter and a main course from a small range – however once again, the budget aspect showed with the laminated menu. I guess it is a budget restaurant which I wasn’t expecting and it somewhat tainted my experience. The food came relatively quick, the starter I ordered was a prawn sesame toast which was really nice. The main came soon after, Chicken Pad Thai however this was rather unimpressive. I felt the chicken was cooked separate to the noodles that made it taste bland, not very well connected and not very nice. The noodles and odd salad put at the side was OK but I’m being generous here.I guess I’m being harsh so please take that into consideration, but if you’re looking for a budget Thai restaurant that has quick service, with a rather quaint yet low budget price for the area then this is not a bad choice at all.

This is a tiny little place and if you can pop your head around the door ahead of your arrival and reserve a table, all the better. When it's full, it's a bit of a squeeze for the bearded Scots proprietor and his waiting staff but I've not yet had a bowl of sticky rice go down the back of my neck. Attractively nesting almost opposite the august portals of Rules Restaurant on Maiden Lane, where Covent Garden and the West End's theatreland meet, Thai Pin makes you feel at once hidden away, and at the centre of things: of itself a good trick, in this goldfish-bowl part of central London. Good authentic kitchens, run by the proprietor's gently authoritative Thai partner, produce tasty, vivid dishes: all the staples - Green and Red Curries, sharp hot Tom Yum soup, fiery stir-fried duck, a wonderful, really spicy Som Tum salad, etc - but very competently done. The squid, soft and fragrant, is a good example of how to buy, and cook, this difficult ingredient. I will say the fish cakes have twice been a thinly flavoured disappointment. But on the whole Thai Pin is convivial, chatty, enjoyable and not at all steeply priced. Blow the risk - go for the sticky rice.

This cosy looking restaurant beckoned us in on a chilly November night. It's tiny and cramped and has no glamour. Usually a good sign in Thailand. We sat almost touching elbows with other diners so if you are newly courting couple requiring personal space, go elsewhere. If, however, you require very nice customer service and great food, come here. The scottish owner was very laid back and wonderfully affable. Such nice genuine hospitality is very rare in the UK. It was a real pleasure to talk to him. The food was excellent and the price very reasonable. Due to being short on time, it was a quick visit. I hope to return one day and sample a few more dishes. There is nothing pretentious about Thai Pin, just good old fashioned hospitality and a good feed. Give it a try.

Carlton Lounge is much better for Shesha and food and is in a much better setting, this place is more of a make-shift smokers den at the back of your garden...
