Good local! Made better when you befriend the staff who are always happy to pour us a pint. Especially Ian who we probably see the most! Really appreciate all your help bud 👍🏼

Melrose is always a must on a Sunday! Carvery is incredible and fresh and tasty, Kids enjoy their own meals. Staff always smiling and friendly. Never change Melrose! Never change.

Kelly in Whacky Warehouse was wonderful as we hadn’t booked. Big mistake but because we were early morning there was a space. Many thanks . Also their coffee machine wasn’t working so I had to pop into the Melrose adjourning . Ian was so helpful as he brought my coffee through to me. Top marks for Ian and Kelly. 😀👏👏

Beef suitable only for soles of your boots. Absolutely inedible. Veg etc was very good. Mentioned it to the carver who said "yes I know, if it's ever like that let me know and I'll change it". This is on fave of it is sound advice, but when Ive queued to get a meal and I'm very hungry I'm not stopping half way though.

Food is Really Good 5 out of 5 Good price and good value The soft drinks on tap should be avoided i did ask about this on my last visit i dont think they use enough of the mixture I would call again

I visited this pub for mother's day, it was my first time visiting this place and it won't be my last, great food, decently priced with great service

Booked for a table of 22 for mother's day. Really helpful staff and carvery was piping hot and perfectly cooked. The landlord was really friendly and checked everything was ok. Such a shame that this place is being turned into a smoke house as it has recently become our go to place for a family get togethers

The Melrose is somewhere I would 100% recommend. It was a family favourite for so long, a place we can laugh and create memories at. The pub isn’t just a pub it’s somewhere we can relax and enjoy ourselves in. It’s so sad that it’s closing and the memories that it holds inside made by not just me but by others, thank you for a wonderful experience.

Sometime it can get a bit rowdy. However, I must say the Bar staff are loverly... in Particular Ian (I think his second name is Brown).He is so accommodating and courteous.Very professional and can handle some difficult customers. Great Guy.

My self and family members have used this pub for many years for both food and drinks, the staff are very welcoming, the food comes quickly and is one of the best carveries around, a young lady keira was serving my family, she was welcoming and polite, its a shame this pub will be closing as its a family favourite

Not the first time i’ve been to the melrose, the place is lovely and i’ve never had an issue with the servers all of them are lovely, the food was good quick to come out as well.

Went here and ordered a nashville topper for a jumbo crispy chicken, my my was it divine. jalapeño bites was sensational and my side order of onion rings were the definition of perfection! Definitely would come again

The staff paid more attention to talking with each other than serving customers standing at the bar, waiting to be served, so it took forevery to get served. Food potions were very small, more the size of a child portion so we left feeling still hungry. I eventually moved our own dishes from our table to the food counter which had closed. Seat covers held together with duck tape. Seriously need a makeover in attitude and service and décor. Sadly I have never given anywhere such a negative review. 👎☹️

I ordered a pint yesterday in the evening after my shift. The flavor was rich and well-balanced, making it one of the best pints l've had in a while. The staff were attentive and friendly, ensuring that my experience was nothing short of fantastic. One particular member of the team, Cai, really stood out. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the drinks menu and offered great recommendations, which made my visit even more enjoyable.

I would give no stars if I had the choice I had booked online for a table 5 adults and 2 children for my birthday celebration. I tried to phone to confirm a booking for wacky warehouse 2 children to go into the kids play area after. The amount of phone calls were endless. They didn't answer any of my  phone calls. Eventually when I got through the next day I was able to book the kids in lucky enough. We phoned to say we were on our way running little bit behind because of the traffic and they said that was fine they will hold our table. When we arrived there was no one on front desk only to be greeted by a massive sign saying find your own table and place order with table number. There was no staff to take us to our table, so we decided to find our own table just like the sign said that's when the problems started to begin. All the tables were reserved on the table even though there was noone sitting on the table we choose to sit on the 6 table but there was no space for us on that table. We then decided to move to a bigger table which was reserved and the rude lady said we couldn't sit there even though it said on the sign at the front desk choose our own seats. We explained there is no tables big enough for us to sit on and we had booked for a table. She said we'll you can't sit there as it's reserved, we asked about another table and she said the same thing. The staff was not helpful and didn't even bother to ask what our booking name was. Eventually she sat us to a 7 seater table after 20 minutes of messing around with no help from the staff that wasn't doing there job properly, just standing there dictating what we couldn't do or where we couldn't sit down. I have never felt so unwelcome and stressed out in all of my life. I feel disgusted the way me and my family have been treated. The same staff member the old women served us our food and all throughout the night it was constant stares and listening to our conversations as she was pretending to do her job but wasn't actually doing anything  but creating a bad atmosphere. She walked past our table every now and then laughing and smirking with a smug face and she clearly wanted to ruin my night. When we finished our food, I stayed for drinks which wasn't cheap £6 for Malibu and coke  and my mother took the kids into wacky warehouse, well my mother hadn't even left through the door and the horrible women said a rude comment, I don't know if you going to be able to get into the balls now because of the time closing early. Bare in mind we had booked already for the kids. We had loads of time, she was just trying to be funny. She wasn't even working on wacky warehouse area. The women was absolutely useless. All to say but nothing to do. She was toxic negative to to be around and I have never want to experience it AGAIN. All I can say is that the staff need to be trained better and on front of house desk and never anyone on the desk and leant how to speak nicer to customers and be more helpful. The booking system is rubbish, they don't answer phone calls. They seem to be messing bookings up and say there no booking  every time I go and I have been 3 occasions for birthdays they have messed up even putting wrong name down on reserved tables. Absolute nightmare and the staff completely killed the atmosphere and they were talking about us to other staff about us. The staff are not friendly, quite intimidating and rude in the restaurant area. Not professional at all. However when we did go over to the wacky warehouse there was nicer lady there and she was helpful and friendly. I Would not recommend melrose inn restaurant probably not for special occasion. I don't think I will be coming back again in a hurry. The polish lady chef was rude too and wasn't anywhere to be seen we had to ring the bell to order carvery. Melrose inn  restaurant need new staff management. I'm very disappointed.

Great price, sometimes half the price of what other Cardiff places charge for food! Friendly staff, premises were clean. Portion sizes were good. Will definitely return.

Wasn’t a fan at all! Place was filthy. my friend went there with her little girl, she wiped the high chair and it was still filthy and just groggy. Food wasn’t the best at all. My girl of 8 months was tapping her toy on the table as children do and a staff member behind the bar gave her a dirty look, DIRTY LOOK TO A BABY! it’s a “family restraunt” with a play area expect children to play and make noise or simply find a different job. Also tried to use the play area and the women at the desk said “sorry we are about to close” it was just turning 5 o’clock there was still another hour of play. Will not be going back, highly recommend the wacky warehouse in Chepstow far more friendly and brilliant with my daughter

Not impressed, a booked table overstayed. So sat elsewhere that wasn't suitable. Food service required prompting despite not being too busy and it was clear when it was served it had been sat under the hot lamp and wasn't "just ready". Steak was tough, cold and chewy, chips were cold. Whatever was bundled with my food was acceptable and presentation was good. Waiting staff were friendly, some bar staff not so. Waiting staff could use help, understaffed and overworked, Kitchen and food management requires improvement. Definitely giving this a miss.

Came as part of a group. We all ordered separately. Starters came out first then all the mains came out together. I ordered steak (rare) and it was cooked to perfection. All the staff were very friendly. I cannot speak highly enough of this place and I will be returning

Had 2 meals there recently (seperate occasions of course) and both have been outstanding. One was a rump steak, the other a sirloin. Both times these were cooked perfectly to my liking, with a good choice of sauces on offer. Prices were very reasonable. I would like to see a ribeye on the menu, but with that missing, the rump and sirloin were very good alternatives. Staff were very friendly anf polite when taking my orders. No complaints at all.

Great food and a really good atmosphere. I thoroughly enjoy visit. Perfect location for the golf course near by. Also, the General Manager Neil is extremely attractive

I have been frequenting the Melrose Inn for a few years now and I can honestly say it is one of the best pubs that I have ever had the pleasure to visit. The bar staff are incredibly attentive and friendly. I have eaten their food, drank their beer and large array of beverages and also brought my children down to sample the wacky warehouse. What an amazing atmosphere and welcome we always have. I would thoroughly recommend!

Always a lovely meal and great service at affordable prices. The pub itself is lovely with a friendly atmosphere, a sense of community with the various charity and family events they run. Bonus of the soft play area is great for little ones too

My family and I love visiting the Melrose Inn. We have never had a bad meal. At our last visit it was extremely busy but Neil the manager went above and beyond to quickly find us a table. The carvery was delicious as always

I attended for the three course Christmas Fayre menu and booked for 7 guests. The starters and deserts were lovely but as the restaurant was very quiet, the main carvery was only warm and the veg a bit soggy, as it had been sitting in the warmers for several hours. My guests and I were very disappointed as we expected more considering the total spend on food and drinks was in excess of £200. UPDATE: I received a reply to my review and was asked to contact the restaurant. I spoke to a member of staff and explained the reason for my call. She said the manager was in a meeting, took my number and advised they’d call me once the meeting was over. That was over a week ago and I’m still waiting.

The staff are lovely especially jess she is amazing her customer service is impeccable she is the heart of the Melrose 😀 lovely place for food drinks and entertainment highly recommended!

Not the first visit to the Melrose and wont be the last. myself and my 3 year old were served by Jess who was very friendly and engaging with my little one when arriving, she even brought over a few little things for her to play with whilst waiting for food to arrive. Food was pretty quick although I ordered incorrectly with the chick n mix, the manager Neil was very kind and resolved straight away. Food was tasty and the staff were nice and I now cant move after having the ultimate sundae for dessert.

Popped in for a quick bite. Did the job, lovely decorated for Christmas. Nice staff. Big enough to not be disturbed by those watching football

Booked a table for 6 for lunchtime get together. 5 of us had the carvery and were very disappointed with the beef. Unable to cut let alone chew it. The Turkey was very good. Long wait at the bar to get served as not many staff on. The staff that were working were very pleasant. Can’t understand why the beef was so bad if they serve it every day. The garlic mushrooms and chicken wing starters were very good. The atmosphere and Christmas decorations were lovely
