Melih BBQ in Redbridge

Very tasty food and value, the staff are always friendly and nice. We had salad, bread, mixed platter for 2, chips, dessert, turkish tea and drinks, everything was perfect. The restaurant is clean and spacious, I would come back again and again.

UPDATE: Temporarily closed from 22/07/24, reopening on 26/08/24. Good, straightforward Turkish food, reasonably priced with good quality meat, and not an elephant's leg in sight!

Food was lovely but disappointed that the mix 3 grill didn't come with chops despite advertising and she told us AFTER we ordered and that is misleading and should be upfront about it.

Popped in for a quick chicken kebab. Chicken was cooked ok but lacked seasoning and taste. Salad on the plate was really naff as there was nothing of it. Yet again the salad lacked seasoning and taste. The bread was lovely and well cooked, also the sauces were very nice. Had a lot better from other kebab houses.

Lovely family run place. Same people looking after you for years. 'free' starters of salad and pide, and lots of choice. We usually go for as many "Mix Grill 2" as we can eat, and you get loads of lovely BBQd meat - chicken, lamb and kebab plus salad. It's all simple. And I love the way they present the bill to you - open a cigar like box etc voila, there's the amount, hand written like it always has been. See video attached. Tickles me every time.

Overall great experience. The food is good and fresh. The service is good. Highly recommended. Must try the platter and kebab. The wings are fresh and tasty as well. Don’t forget to have the Turkish tea.

Fresh and delicious food. Service is good. We went on a Friday at 5pm and there were plenty of tables. We ordered the Melih special platter for 2 for £33. It came with a lot of meat, salad and bread. They gave us a free lahmacun which was nice and chewy. Everything was flavourful and tasty. Well seasoned meat charcoal grilled, bulgur wheat was delicious and addictive, all the meats were tasty, the lamb was a bit chewy but that's to be expected. Salad was good and the garlic sauce is thick and drinkable. I ordered the Ayran, usually I find the shop bought ones too salty and sour. This was perfect flavour, not dour or salty and slightly sweet too. Tastes homemade. The bread nice and warm, the only downfall is the bread from the platter is stale compared to the bread they give you. Otherwise it was a good meal. The dessert I ordered Sutlac, usually I get it from Diyarbakir kitchen where it tastes like white chocolate. This one has lemon in it and the texture is nice and smooth and creamy. It's not as nice as the one from Diyarbakir but it is still nice and worth trying once. Overall it costed £43 for the two of us. We ordered Turkish tea also for £1.50. Worth the money for good quality food and service.

Food is nice however they rush you to make an order wasn’t even sat down for 5mins. Had half the food still on the plate and they ask if we wanted a takeaway container. Then they laid out the afters before we had finished our meal. It wasn’t even busy for them to be rushing us we was in and out within 45mins. These lot use to be nice and friendly I don’t think I’d take my family back there

Good food and service, could be more lively however value for money and good sized portions.

Melih has a spacious dining space which would cater for events. Brightly lit and lacks some ambience, but this is made up for by the gracious hostess and welcome. The starters have a good choice of Turkish, while my mains favourite is the BBQ specials which are excellent and good value for money. Cap this off with some Turkish tea and the rice pudding and you go home cheery! This was my second visit so I could provide a good overview, so all good. Shadwell Heath station just around the corner so an easy amble from my haunts in east London.

Ordered the mixed meat platters as a takeaway. Reasonably priced and very tasty food, packaged well and served hot as it should be, with rice and salad, bread and dips. Good quality food and service and prices that won’t kill you either! Result.

Having eaten here happily for a number of years, this time I was disappointed. I asked if the lamb chops still came with the platter and the lady said yes, there were no lamb chops in it, why lie about this and the lamb Shish was practically raw

Went in the restaurant and ordered "Melhi's special mixed grill" which was clearly displayed with various meat and chicken including lamb chops, I checked with the lady at the till who repeated it comes with lamb chops, as I wanted to check if it comes with salad, however when I got home we noticed there was no lamb chops. I called the restaurant and suddenly they said it doesn't come with lamb chops and instead they gave "chicken chops" which is ridiculous! I asked what is chicken chops which I've never heard of? And reminded her that she told me twice when ordering it includes lamb chops. They are clearly misleading customers, as even there takeaway menu price was not updated, however the takeaway menu also states lamb chops. Not going to return as there was no effort of any apology but instead being patronised and lied to which was most upsetting. Will not return or recommend this place to anyone.

Just wow!!!! Went in with my husband got given lahmachun and salad with a cold mezze to begin with immediately, which was on the house, so sweet. We then got the Melih special which was a platter for two which tasted amazing, would’ve posted pictures but they didn’t turn out the best quality but when I tell you the food truly looks as good as it tastes haha ❤️ to end the meal we got complementary desert and tea which was also so incredibly sweet. The staff were also so nice and were always there for anything we needed to ask 💕

The food at Melih has always been good, I have returned time and again, however, be aware of the “House wine”, this has changed from a half decent wine to a very very cheap £2.99 bottle of Silver Bay wine which is 8% in strength and really ought not to be charged at £20 per bottle, I would advise paying £22 for the Pinot Grigio, overall worth a visit for the food

Food was succulent, delicious and authentic reminds me of istanbul. Staff are extremely friendly and they always smile to you. Complimentary tea and desserts!! Their prices are pretty reasonable. It’s also a family run business so I highly recommend it!!

Food was excellent. Service was perfect. Packed and yet all the food was served hit and quick. We had a good range and all was hot and well seasoned. We had lamb curry, bindi, chana massala, pilau Rice, naan breads, and excellent samosas

Can't go wrong affordable prices food cooked infront of you. Deco a bit outdated but the friendly staff make up for it. Get a complimentary starter and dessert.

Once again disappointed with the quality of the food. Used to be my regular Turkish takeaway, but lately the quality has evroperated. I thought the quality may have improved since my last visit almost a year ago yet its still the same old plain food . Tasteless mish mash. Going back to Lara and at this point id rather overpay for Lara then buy from here again.

Sorry to say ordered the mixed grill 3 got no starters rice and borgur was cold lamb almost raw no roasted veg and I must say the last time we came in it was great such a shame they seem to of lost interest

We use to visit this place all the time with friends and family but over recent months the food has declined. The raw meats lifted over the salads to be placed in the grill, cooks not in hair nets. Delivering food after clearing dirty tables and not washing hands in between serving diners. The smell in there is like sewage and it just looks old and tired now. Take outs aren’t much better sadly

Food is okay nothing special but the sitting is bit congested. Overall okay.

I came here rarely but always I left that restaurant full because of the generos portions which is a good value for the amount of money which you have to pay it for. Never disappointed. Kind service and pleasent atmosphere. You should try, aaaa please don't forget to ask for the tea ❤️

Love this place been going here for a few years now, very friendly and welcoming, they always go above and beyond. They treat you like family. My husband and I absolutely love coming here, food is always delicious and filling. The prices are very reasonable.

We went here as a family of 5 and perhaps we over ordered as we had no idea the portions would be huge! On top of that there was complimentary lahmacun and Turkish dessert with ice cream and Turkish tea. Lovely staff, ambience and excellent food. This place looks smaller on the outside but there is plenty of seating inside.

Couldn't fault it the food was cooked fresh to order the service was good. Got a free starters and bread and an afters for nothing. And was so cheap was a nice afternoon out.

If you want consistency and hospitality, this is the place. Been using Melih for countless years, genuinely the best in town.

The food we ordered was not cooked properly, told them that blood can be seen on lamb chops etc. They took it away and over cooked it. Could not eat it and left everything. And was charged full price. We will never go there again. It was my son's birthday.

Used to come here a few years back we visited on Saturday, the chicken was undercooked and had to then be taken back to be recooked which was a bit annoying the carton of fresh orange juice had mould in it so that needed replacing too, the complimenty bread, sauces and desert was a nice hit though.

A turkish tea on the house brought over to me while I waited for my mix grill takeaway. Friendly staff and delicious food and it gets better reasonably priced menu unlike other similar restaurants. This place is great and ill be visiting often :)

Good service, food was also very nice, only a few items undercooked and sauce seemed a little off, however staff immediately replaced with some new extras. Friendly environment.

I visited with my girlfriend on a Sunday afternoon. We were one of three groups of diners at around 1:30pm. There was plenty of space for us at this time. We opted for the mixed grill sharer for two, which was very nice. Good amounts of chicken and lamb, rice, bread and salad. It was all very nice but the chicken was delicious. It was nice touch to include complementary bread, salad and an almond desert. I washed all of this tasty food down with an Efes. We noticed Pida was on the menu which may be an option if you dine with fussy children (similar to a pizza). The service was excellent. I would say the staff went above and beyond in serving us. I enjoyed the food. I will definitely recommend and return soon!

I can tolerate everything but dishonesty. I just read another review abt not giving ribs and chops in mix grill. We ordered the same mix grill of £22.50 when it arrived afterb10 mins I realised there s not lamb ribs we love lamb. When we asked where s lamb ribs then waitress told its finished and we gave u 3 extra chicken wings. I was like excuse me instead of ribs wings plus you should have told us and ask what we want instead. I said i want chops instead and she goes chops finished as well.. i started getting upset then suddenly another waitress came and said i m bringing ur ribs in 5 to 10.mins.. all of the sudden ribs was available .. they are scam when people dont notice they get away with tht. Never again doesnt meet the standard of other turkish restaurant. Guys watch out....

Tasty food great customer service good prices

I visited here last night at around 9pm, had unfortunately didn't have the best experience. Things started off okay, place wasn't too busy staff seemed happy. Once we sat down we were given complimentary bread, salad and a Lahmacun as well. Just ordered the melih special for 2 people, £22.50. Now it was meant to come with the following. 1 adana, chicken Shish, lamb Shish, 5 chicken wings, 3 lamb ribs and 2 lamb chops. I was looking forward to the lamb, as that's my preferred meat of choice. But when it arrived, there was no lamb ribs or chops. But 1 tiny extra wing and one chicken kofa...strange. I didn't think this was correct. I was a bit confused and asked where are the chops? They then said they don't have any chops left. So they gave me a chicken kofta extra.. With no acknowledgement or letting me know before hand. I said I wanted lamb, but they insisted, they had no chops. They then said they can give me more lamb ribs.. I said fine.. But then saw there were actually no ribs on the platter to start with either! Then after I complained again, they said they will give me ribs, but acted like it was extra! After 10mins some ribs were dumped on the platter. But I was like. This was meant to come anyway! Then after another round of complaining from me.. Guess what.. Lamb chops suddenly were available again and I got some at the end of the meal. I said well I've finished now, they said you can take it home. I just don't understand what happened here. I've eaten out close to 200 restaurants a year and never had staff lie and try to scam me. The food was decent, but the sneaky and dishonest service left a poor taste in my month. Chilii sauce was great, but they have a thing with serving burnt bread.

Treating ourselves to a takeaway instead of eating in because of Covid. We always have the Adana kebab abs the chicken swish. My friend who is Turkish also likes the food here.

Delicious and fresh as always. I have been eating from here in the past 4 years. My advice to others is to stick with the same quality restaurant rather than shopping around.

Best kebab in the area!!!! Would give 10 stars if possible! You most definitely must try it out!!! Saff always polite and friendly. You will always feel welcomed.

They make amazing small soft bread. The young lady staff serving customers is always very polite and respectful everyone. Wish they were closer to my home, I drive an hour to get to them.
