Meikle Ferry Station in Highland

Visited today and ordered 2 drinks and 2 steak pie dinners. Service was fine but we could not eat the food. The meat was inedible. We couldn't cut it never mind chew it. The young waiter returned it to the kitchen, returned to apologise and agrred with us. Then he said there will be no charge... ....... really. Why would we pay when we had no food. Left and went elsewhere.

We'd been meaning to try MFS for a while as we regularly go to Dornoch. A real gem of the Highlands, yes the food was great and fresh, we will definitely be returning, but we must point out that friendly welcoming staff add to a great experience, and these guys were certainly that. Thanks guys. PS Huey the springer appreciated the welcome and lug rubs also.

We visited for a quick lunchtime refill, and we were very impressed. Right on one of the main NC500 routes, but out of sight, the restaurant is very easy to get to and is bright and clean inside, with a nice atmosphere. We arrived shortly before 12 noon and tended to very quickly. Our server explained the menu options and the changeover from the breakfast and allowed us to order off the lunch menu for it to be delivered when the menu kicked in, and our food was delivered bang on the 12 noon changeover. The food and drinks were very reasonably priced and very much worth the money. The panini & sandwiches we ordered along with our chunky chips were very well presented and very tasty. The chunky chips in particular were a real highlight. They were also delivered very quickly. All of the colleagues were very friendly, polite and efficient, nothing was too much trouble. They were quick to clean away used tables and did not stop in their work, This is a real hidden gem of a place to stop off and refuel yourself on your own journey, so be sure to look out for the roadside signs as you approach the roundabout just after / before Tain, you will not be disappointed.

Very nice atmosphere and very clean but very poor service. Waited 15 minutes for a pot of tea and then had to wait just over 30 min for a cheese toastie and tomato and cheese sandwich. Must admit food was a little pricey but good and they did give a discount but they really need to improve there service and maybe hire people that are a little quicker in doing their job.

Just ha a lovely meal at the meikle ferry station. The meikle was recommended to us and now we would recommend to everybody. Food was brilliant and plentiful. Staff were all very friendly and pleasant.

Stopped in today for lunch. Beautiful restaurant wonderful staff, great menu and delicious food. Would certainly recommend and being local we will definitely be coming back.

Best breakfast in the Highlands,My friend asked for a fried slice,no problem,breakfast was so tasty,obviously local grown Egg,SausagesTomatoe,Bacon,Beans,Mushrooms,Toast and Black pudding and the Waitresses were wonderful,happy and dare I say it, Fit. Will be back soon thanks so much Bob / Mick

Steak pie is a must, I’ve had a few in my time but this was definitely the best. Full of steak from local butcher and a really good rich gravy. Pastry was excellent too. Came with chunky chips and veg on the side

We’ve driven past here countless times and decided that we really should stop in and we’re glad that we did. Good food and excellent, friendly service at a reasonable price. They even have their own private hire mini bus so you can have a wee dram! We’ll be back.

Went with our granddaughter for lunch as it was her birthday, we were told that it was only light lunches as one of the chefs were off, this was after 12 so a bit disappointed as looking forward to a main meal, so ordered 3 soups and sandwiches, our granddaughter got a lovely thick plate of soup but when we got ours the plates were half size and clearly watered down.

This was my first visit to the Meikle Ferry for a number of years, and our party of six thoroughly enjoyed our meal. There was a good choice of lunches on the menu, and the prices were reasonable. All the staff we met were friendly and helpful. One even undertook photography duty. The only minor criticism is that parking could be problematic at busy times

What a great experience. Our first time here and we will be back again and would recommend it to anyone. The team here are the most pleasant, helpful people who have taken customer service to an extremely high level. The food was first class - the fish was more like a whale than a fish and was so fresh and tasty. The soup and sandwich combo was first class. This team should take a bow.

Food was great. Homemade well cooked dishes. Excellent quality and good portions. Best steak pie ever, tasty burger and all the trimmings, creamy mac cheese, prawn and smoked salmon salad was amazing. Sticky toffee pudding to die for. Staff extremely friendly. Dog friendly too. Couldn't recommend highly enough ☺️

Food was great, staff warm and friendly, atmosphere very relaxing. A wonderful place to go, must do so more often. Make sure to stop when you are travelling on the A9.

What an excellent find, great, well cooked food, had the Christmas meal, it was delicious. Had breakfast the day before and couldn’t resist going back before we returned to Yorkshire. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, even our nervous lab was well looked after by the girls. The restaurant is spotless and comfortable. Thank you so much. P.S coffee is really, really good too!

This was my first visit & it won’t be my last. The food was excellent with great choice. The Clarsach playing was excellent too.

Great selection of good honest food and very helpful friendly staff. This is a perfect stop off on the A9 and a great find. My light lunch was tasty, served piping hot and speedy. Great Gluten Free choices. Definitely will return

Had seen this mentioned on Facebook as a recommendation of where to eat for dinner so thought we’d give it a try (hadn’t heard of it otherwise). First impressions were it was clean and the staff welcoming. We all enjoyed our meal - great portion sizes and delicious food. The main course menu is not the biggest although all the usual favourites are on it. Pudding choices are very limited with the main two being sticky toffee pudding and cheesecake - both of which had sold out with another two hours of it being open and at least four other tables that had come in after us. My other niggle is we were waiting at least 20 mins to have our plates cleared after finishing the main course to order pudding (well if they hadn’t run out) despite there being plenty staff on and not run off their feet. Would definitely return, maybe for lunch instead.

Amazing food massive portions and great choice. Lovely atmosphere and staff. Look forward to returning when back up north.

It was basically by chance, that we arrived here, without expectations. What we found, was a very likable place, apparently managed by the local women's circle, and using recipes from the family legacy. (I have no idea, whether that's really the case, just giving my impression.) Really nice staff, mostly young people, and a family-friendly atmosphere. Location is an open room, with big windows, can get a bit too sunny.

One of the best places to eat in the area. Really fresh and tasty salads and other meals. Prepared fresh and always tasty. Great friendly staff.

Excellent food, as always (we’ve been there 5 times now), very attentive staff, - Nicola was very very attentive, friendly, funny and witty. A really pleasant atmosphere, very competitive prices, great value and a good selection. We can recommend Meikle 100%. We’ll be back.

What a wonderful surprise, everything was top notch, clean toilets and restaurant, great staff, gorgeous food. In fact, it was our best meal during our whole 2 week trip of Scotland

Unpretentious and not visually striking from outside. But great food served by friendly staff and extremely clean. Dog was genuinely welcome and loved the fuss. Coffee of high quality and good portions. Highly recommended

Excellent Christmas lunch for our group of 13 today. Variety of food intolerances coped with. Roast potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Efficient and pleasant to deal with.

First rate cuisine, beautifully presented. Staff welcoming and friendly. Was quiet for a Friday evening, was Bonfire night in nearby Tain so that may explain the lack of customers. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would highly recommend Meikle Ferry Station.

Visited here twice during week in Ardgay. If they have the strawberry and elderflower cake definitely have a slice, it is beautiful. Really lovely home cooked food. Staff really friendly and place is as clean as a whistle. Definitely worth a visit

Stopped in for lunch on my way to Thurso. Friendly staff, reasonable prices and food was delicious. Slightly tucked in behind the caravan park, so might not be obvious.
