Cottage Bar & Restaurant in Highland

We visited the Cottage today for Sunday lunch and it was absolutely lovely. We were a group of 7, multigenerational and probably a bit loud and enthusiastic with our catch up conversations! The staff were so friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. The roast beef was so tender that it almost fell apart on my fork - hands down the best roast beef dinner I have ever had. The choice of veggies was more than adequate (loved the broccoli & cauliflower cheese option) and the portions were so generous that I’ll be having a roast beef sandwich for lunch tomorrow. All the meals were polished off, but the customer service was the thing that stood out for me. Look no further if you want the best Sunday roast you’ll have in the area with staff who will make you feel glad that you visited.

Delicious Mothers Day Lunch yesterday. The roast beef was a winner with us all , and the dessert selection had something for us all. Lovely and cosy with the log fire burning.

Popped in for a meal with family. Lovely friendly and attentive staff. Excellent, freshly prepared, locally sourced food and reasonably priced. Especially enjoyed the loaded burger with onion rings on the daily specials. Definitely going back soon!

Stopped here en route to our holiday accommodation with another 1.5 hours to go. The service was great, and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. The roast dinners were very much enjoyed, as was the macaroni and cheese.

Went for Sunday roast. Choice of 3. Beef, pork & chicken. My wife had roast beef. I had the roast pork. Good servings. Loved the broccoli & cauliflower with cheese accompaniment. Very reasonable price & friendly service. Highly recommend.

The staff service was exceptional and food very tasty. And the locals are lovely and very welcoming. It gave a homely atmosphere and a nice wood burning stove to keep you warm and toasty.

Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch yesterday. I had scampi, my niece had Thai red curry. Portions were generous and very tasty. The conservatory was warm and cosy on a dull, rainy day outside. What stood out the most was the service - we were made to feel welcome and as though nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended a visit here, we'll definitely be back.

You ever watched a movie where someone walks into a bar and the whole place stops and turns to them, you ever thought, yeah I want that to happen to me, you’ve come to the right place then. It’s a local place for local people, and they definitely didn’t burn the tourists that came, those are just rumours, it’s ok though I mean they have the outside which is a nice place to sit, and they have animals wandering around. They have good beers as well, and they do food ( it’s just ok when you have a few drinks in you ) just don’t say your a vegetarian as they’ve never heard of that sort of thing. This is an edit. The place has been taken over by someone else so everything might have changed. I’ve only had a few beers in there recently and I had my uncles funeral tea in there and everyone was nice and catered to us. They still have the outside but not sure about the animals.

We were looking for a good meal for the last night of our holiday. Called in advance to book. On arrival there was a little confusion about the timing but all resolved quickly and we ordered steak pie and a Thai red curry. There was a bit of a wait for our meals, but they were worth waiting for! Both were absolutely delicious, as were our puddings. Friendly and helpful service as well as the great food means we heartily recommend the cottage bar and just wish we lived closer!

We had a very nice dinner here in the conservatory. For appetizer we had spinach and pea arancini and poached egg on black pudding on a potato scone. Both were very good. Our main course was the chicken tempura which was a large portion. The restaurant fills up quickly and reservations are a must. Nice place to eat with the locals.

visited at lunch time on mid week. Waited ages to place order, food was good but just four sandwiches no side salad or crisps etc and the coffee was the worst. Waited about 10 minutes at the counter to pay. There appeared to be only one lady serving and she clearly was struggling to cope

Lovely country pub, fantastic hosts that are very welcoming, literally go above and beyond for their customers and fur babies! Food is absolutely amazing, book ahead to avoid disappointment. Can't wait to come back next time!

Stopped to look on Google for somewhere to have lunch and found we were only 5 minutes away, so gave here a try. The food was lovely (I had eggs royale and my partner had the steak & onion baguette. Service couldn't be faulted - polite, friendly and very helpful. I think our waiters name was Cameron. We also had a young lady bring our meals out who was also very polite and friendly. We asked if it were possible to have some desserts to go and this was also arranged for us. Definite 5 stars 🌟

Looking for a stopover on the way to the ferry at Ullapool, also somewhere dog friendly outside of a town centre. Came across the cottage online, perfect, car parking for our slightly nervous dog, near enough to Ullapool not to panic about time. I will say check the opening times as understandably it is a small town so not open all day. Arrived in the middle of lunchtime opening, VERY welcoming of our dog, straight away he got a bowl of water which he managed to splash everywhere and a bowl of food. Very hearty meals, huge portions, tasty fresh and value. Gluten free also highlighted on menu. Seems to be well supported by the local community. Exactly what we were looking for near enough to the ferry, quiet area, good food. Would return and recommend

Two of us went today for a birthday meal The restaurant location is really nice, it was very clean and we'll presented and there's plenty of car parking space. We were shown straight to out table by very courteous staff. They took our order quickly and our drinks came straight away. We both ordered the roast beef dinner, it took about 20 to 25 minutes to arrive. This is where things went a little downhill... The beef wasn't cuts of beef from a freshly cooked roast, it was sliced beef that seemed like it had come from a catering pack? It looked and tasted like it had been boiled in a bag. It was so soft (overcooked) that it was disintergrating as you tried to pick it up on you fork. There were two baby potatoes cut in half, no roast potatoes at all. The cabbage and carrots were over cooked, and there wasn't enough of them. I would give the roast dinner a 4/10 We had a desert each I had toffee cheesecake and ice cream. The cheesecake had a very gelatine and rubbery consistency, it was more an odd type of mouse than a cheesecake. It wasn't nice at all. My wife has the chocolate fudge cake with ice cream, this was a shop bought fudge cake and was just average. We pointed out how bad the cheesecake was and they immediately said they would take it off the bill, which was really decent of them. It's a nice restaurant and pub in a nice location with very nice staff, but our food was poor. Their Sunday roast beef dinner is not worth the £16.95 they charge for it.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Cottage Bar and Restaurant during our travel and I must say, it was a delightful experience from start to finish. Service was good and friendly. And let's talk about the food! The menu being served was a Sunday special. I had the pleasure of trying Chicken breast with Black pudding with peppercorn sauce which was lovely, my wife had the Steak pie. My son had a small kids Pepperoni Pizza with a side of fries. We ended up ordering some desserts and son was adamant to have an ice-cream. The flavors were well-balanced, and the presentation was good. Overall, my experience at The Cottage Bar and Restaurant was very good. The combination of great service and wonderful food was simply fantastic. If you're looking for a place to enjoy good food and great service, or if you are travelling like us then The Cottage. It's a true gem that deserves every bit of praise.

Absolutely old school sadly places like this are becoming harder and harder to find ! This cosy little restaurant has it all fantastic food fantastic prices fantastic management and staff and it was a absolute joy to see the core values being upheld at this fantastic establishment !! The roast beef could be cut with a spoon the veg cooked properly and this is another rare thing as veg now comes in other places minus cooking hard and raw well done . Staff can’t do enough for you and I left the restaurant totally and utterly 100% delighted with the whole experience, outside area could do with a coat off paint and perhaps better signage from the road but that’s it on the negatives as soon as the food is served up you can easily forget that!! well done a fantastic experience thank you

This was honestly the best meal we had during our 2 weeks in the Highlands and Islands and we ate out almost every night. The atmosphere was fantastic, the service absolutely faultless, and the team were lovely to us and our dog. This was a really warm, kind and enjoyable environment for my family and I and we will definitely be back when next we visit. The chicken in peppercorn sauce was beautiful 😍. After a long day hiking, this was the perfect respite. We all absolutely loved it. We also got some good advice for our next day of travelling and thanks to this advice, we enjoyed an hour of Bottlenose Dolphin watching on Fortrose beech. Would rate this place 100/100 if I could. Perfect. Dog friendly, family friendly, warming safe environment with great food.

Food was good. Unfortunately we picked a very busy day so the noise levels and language was unacceptable. However this wasn't the fault of the owners or staff.

We found this place by accident and we’re really glad we did. The staff are friendly and couldn’t be more helpful. The food was some of the nicest we’ve ever eaten, the creamy garlic mushrooms and Stornaway black pudding starters were excellent. Cajun chicken & gammon steak for our main courses were faultless too. I’d happily take the drive from Aberdeen to here just for dinner!

Visited this place with my Dad while doing the nc500. The food is excellent. I enjoyed a wonderful tai red curry. My dad had the rib eye steak. Friendly and happy staff. A little gem.

We’ve been to the cottage bar a few times now and food has been fantastic each time, portion sizes are big you will not be disappointed, staff are friendly and welcoming and we will definitely be returning

We were holidaying on the black isle and googled this place as a dog friendly restaurant. From telephone booking right through to the meal, the staff were fantastic. We went on 30th April and were presented with the Sunday menu. I had roast lamb which came with sides if veg and cauliflower and broccoli cheese. It was so home cooked that it felt loke your granny made it .My good lady had the roast chicken with haggis and black pudding. Our doggy mylo even got a bowl of off cuts of meat at no extra charge. Its a beautiful local restaurant hidden from view but sign posted from the road. From the outside it doesn't look great, but the interior is so homely and welcoming . Five star food and lovely staff . 🙂

Just had a delicious meal with the missus at the Cottage bar restaurant in Maryburgh just outside Dingwall. I had a steak dinner and the good lady had a g/f roast dinner with all the trimmings. Both cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. Followed these with 2 lovely desserts. Service was excellent and with a 😀 prices were very reasonable, I cannot recommend this place more highly . Well done to all the staff !

As they freely admit on their website, this is simple food, but well presented, and plenty of it. For example, the roast beef was thickly cut and literally covered the plate, with a separate dish for vegetables.

Definition of a hidden gem. Incredible food and a great atmosphere. Diverse menu executed extremely well. Even to a couple of judgy American foodies.

We had the best fish and chips ever. The batter was lovely and crisp and not at all greasy. Absolutely delicious

I ate here whilst passing through on a cycling trip. The food was excellent. There were several vegetarian/vegan options. They were busy but staff pleasant and helpful. As a bonus it was very reasonably priced as well. Would definitely return

Went to The Cottage Bar twice when we were in the area in June. Meals were superb, especially the sweets. Huge plateful of scrumptious food perfectly cooked. Prices very reasonable.

We are SO HAPPY we found this place!!!! It feels like someone's backyard but is a full on restaurant and bar. If nly we took pictures but we ate all the food so fast it was so good! DO NOT skip dessert. You won't regret it! They were all amazing! I hear it can get crowded so call in advance before you arrive.

Great restaurant/pub that serves comfort food at its best. We had the roast beef with Yorkshire pudding, as well as the chicken breast with black pudding and a creamy peppered sauce. Service was courteous and prompt. Highly recommended.

Booked in advance for a table of 3; one fussy eater, one vegan, one vegetarian. We found the place easily enough and the staff were lovely. Despite one of the vegetarian options not being available despite being on the menu, the chef and waiter provided...

We were recommended here as our hotel food was dire. Read some reviews and glad we did as when we entered the bar area everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at us. Had to hold back a genuine LOL. We did book ahead....

After a long day of driving, we were starving and this was the only place open. There were maybe 7 cars in the parking lot. When we went in, no one came to ask us anything. We walked to the bar and asked about a table. They said they were booked for the night- even though there were several open tables. Felt like we were not in the class they prefer. Very unwelcoming. Too bad, as we were willing to spend whatever just for a good meal.
