Mehana the Old House in Maidstone

My family and I often dine at the Mehanata restaurant because the atmosphere, food and service are absolutely top notch. I strongly recommend that we have been visiting this restaurant for four years now.

Amazing service, great food - highly recommend going! Also don't miss the homemade biscuit cake!

Great Bulgarian food and fabulous atmosphere

Amazing experience, food is absolutely delicious, my rib eye steak was perfectly cooked, also my friend’s food was delicious, everything cooked to perfection, you can tell it was prepared with love. Service amazing and all the staff so friendly and smiley, a very warm welcoming, making me feel very much like home. I highly recommend visiting Mexaha! As I have had an amazing experience!!

We had lunch with my colleague. The food was so delicious and the atmosphere was so Bulgarian. The prices are reasonable.

I did not like the place. In particular, the food and its presentation were not tasty. The meat was burnt, and the lavash was hard and it was not comfortable to eat it. I do not recommend it.

Perfect. Wanted something different. This was exactly what i was looking for. Lovely family run business . Service was excellent and friendly . Great service and nice atmosphere!

Our Valentines meal. First time to Mexaha and will definitely not be our last. Food 5* entertainment 5* and Sophie the waitress 5*. The owner she was obviously 5* friendly and nice aswell as others which were eating in the restaurant. Sophie recommended the Feta Bites for starters omg they are amazing. We had the mix meat platter for main to share so we could try all the different meats. Absolutely delicious. We could not eat it all so came home with a doggy bag.

We entered the restaurant not knowing what to expect and were immediately made to feel welcome. Throughout lunch the service was super friendly and down to earth ; the choice of eastern European and Greek food tasty and beautifully presented. The room has a good atmosphere, with objects and pictures of Eastern Europe celebrations. We will definitely return to try more items on the menu and enjoy the music and singing which -we have been told- happens in the evenings.

The managers, a man and a woman, are terrible, no culture and manners, they lie to the customers that everything is fresh, but it is not, my child ate chicken cream soup and in the evening he was all covered in pimples, we went to the emergency room and they told me that it was from the food and I guessed that it was exactly from this restaurant because he hadn't eaten anything else but this soup, I wouldn't repeat it, I don't want to poison my family and I don't recommend it 1000%

There was hair in my food And we had to wait too long for the order so we would not repeat this mistake to visit the place again

We were greeted by a kind and smiling waitress who escorted us and presented their menu. She recommended a board with meats for three or four people. We were pleasantly surprised. Our dish was out of this world- Big Mixed Grill. It was amazing. The restaurant inside is spotless clean and smells fresh. Highly recommended!

A hidden gem in Maidstone. We were presented with the art of food in a plate - they cook from fresh and the chef shows all his love and passion in every single plate. Lovely restaurant, romantic place, delicious food - all that including the friendly owner makes you enjoy every moment. Very disappointed! One star is too much! My family and I had a reservation and still, there were no seats for us. We had to wait for 10 minutes to be seated. Also, the food was not good and very expensive. I ordered sautèed potatoes and waited for an hour until I reminded them about my order and after 10-15 minutes they arrived but they were raw and disgusting. I could not eat them and when I let them know they still charged me for it. On the menu, there were no labels for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free or even allergies. Very slim options for vegetarians and no option for vegans. I am simply disappointed and do not recommend it. One star is too much for that place!

If you want to feel East European spirit, culture and food this is the place. The food is so delicious and on reasonable prices. The staff is friendly and professional with excellent service. We drove 80 miles to have a lunch in the restaurant and we was so satisfied. Highly recommended 👌

A hidden gem in Maidstone. Authentic Bulgarian food perfectly cooked and incredibly delicious. The best pork rib and ox tongue we have had in a while. Hearty service. Cozy setting. Good prices. This will be our go-to whenever we are in the area.

From where to start. This is one of the best restaurants in Maidstone. Staff are great lead by the lovely Milena. All of them are so friendly and kind. The food was very delicious with a nice presentation. The atmosphere is amazing - the decor is in an authentic Balkan style. We had a lovely fun night out, filled with lots of music, dancing and singing. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone! Thank you for the great services, as always! If I could I would give more than 5 stars. The food was amazing as expected, arrived hot and quick. The food was well worth the price. The girl singing late at night sounded incredible. I would definitely travel an hour again to visit.

This has to be the best resturant I have ever atteneded. Me and the wife loved it Waayy just ma cup of tea bosh. The atmosphere is great, they have a orchestra on saturday with insurments I don't even know the names of! Honest to go a fantasic resturant with one of the nicest owners I've ever met, this place could easily rival places like mcdonalds, kfc and even Los Pollos Hermanos

This hidden gem right in the centre of Maidstone should be your next meal destination, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. If you are ever in the area, please check out Mehana, the service is incredible, the authentic food is amazing, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming and certainly worth every penny, I intend to return soon.

Went in as a couple around 4pm, we were the only people sitting inside even after we left. Reasonable prices, generous portions though. Meat cooked well and we were able to take away what we couldn't eat. Friendly service, no problems at all. The design of the restaurant is very authentic I felt like I was in Plovdiv again 😄

Absolutely loved this place . Came in on my own as a solo female traveller staying in the twin working . Wonderfully warm environment , and given 5 star treatment . The butchers spicy mezzo pork was something I liked so much I will try and replicate at home !

My wife and I wanted to try something different when we went out for dinner on Saturday night and this place didn't disappoint. The staff were lovely. The food was delicious. The decor and music was traditional Bulgarian. Good pricing on the food too. We only stayed for food but next time we go back we would like to say for Entertainment, traditional singing and dancing

The fact that this place has previously been shut down due to a rat infestation should be reason enough not to go here.

Be careful, on Fridays and Saturdays you are charged for ‘live music’, whether you want to listen to it or not. The music is very loud and you can’t even hear yourself talking, let alone the people you are trying to have dinner with. The food was good, but you can’t buy wine unless you pay for a whole bottle. It was an interesting experience, I don’t think I would want to go back again though.

First and last visit! Awful management and poor food quality and performance. We waited too long to get a menu at our table and then waited extra to order. The food started coming almost an hour after. My salad arrived almost last, after the chips and bread and the main dishes of the others, and it wasn't what I orderer maybe because of inconsistencies between the menu and the cook. The chips, which as said on the menu should be fresh, was either microwaved or had waited too long before being served to the table. At one point I was snacking only on the bread that I ordered because it was getting cold and the food wasn't coming. We ended up having and paying for an extra dish that nobody had clearly ordered. The atmosphere was fun. Definitely what you'll expect from such a Bulgarian place but what left me with a really bad impression was the manager/boss lady clearly shouting at people to stand up and dance. At one point she even came to our table and asked me if I'll be drinking more and after saying no, they took my glass which still had some drink left in it. They said they don't have enough glasses. Well, maybe buy some more with the money that you get from overcrowding that place, saving from good quality food and having less staff working at busy nights. The place will definitely benefit from better management and more staff. And until then, I'm really ashamed of what you call Bulgarian cuisine. p.s. I usually don't write reviews but seeing the good ones here really triggered me to give one.

We visited this hidden gem on the way back from Canterbury to London and were very pleased with the quality of the food: meat is tender, succulent and delicious; I personally find it the best grilled meat I have been eaten in the UK! Salad and dessert were also nice. Although there is no parking on site, restaurant is beautiful and sparkling clean. Staff was very kind, even though they were extremely busy preparing for a forthcoming party. Definitely recommended if you like charcoal barbecue meat.

The waitress hardly speak in english,dirty ashtrays,not chewable meat.

прекалено малки порции ядене за тези пари, ''певеца'' е просто меко казано трагичен, половина си заминаха заради него, песни..... от най-старите преди 1999 година, единствено само персонала си върши работата и обстановката е добра но всичко друго е ........ две салати сме върнали(не сме я яли) КАПРЕЗЕ защото моцарелата миришеше на развалено,извиниха се взеха си я но пак я включиха в цената защото е била напрвена просто ужасно

Good restaurant especially if you like Bulgarian cuisine. It is really spacious inside. it is a lot of fun to visit not only for the food ,but for the great night out. After certain hour it becomes almost like a nightclub ,but with food :)) It's amazing

Went for the first time. The overall environment of the restaurant was ok. We ordered the chicken and the lamb shoulder. The food took longer than expected. the Chicken was ok but the lamb was cold and tasted really fatty. I asked the waiter to heat the food, came back after about 10 min, slightly warmer but still not Hot!. Tasted really bad, I would def avoid that if you ever think of going.

Very nice Bulgarian restaurant. Good food and music. The only thing that this place is losing one star is because the alcohol is well above the average price.

Traditional flavors. Genuine Bulgarian cuisine and a great atmosphere. Live music till late. What more can you ask for. Whoever knows how we party on the Balkans, trust me this place is the real deal. I was with 10 other friends and my other half and we had such a blast. The owners are there and they are the heart of the night. Milena (the lady who runs and owns it) is amazing. She parties hard with the guests, but at the same time keeps a strict eye on both food coming out of the kitchen and service. She makes sure everybody has a great time and all guests have all their needs well taken care of. Waitresses are great, patient and very will trained. Kitchen is pretty quick considering the high volumes they have to deal with on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The food pleasantly surprised me. It was up to the highest standard and delivering all traditional flavors us Bulgarians are so keen on. As some of you would know we can be quite demanding, including myself and I can say hand on heart - THESE GUYS CAN COOK! If you are living in South London the trip is well worth it. This place is firmly establishing itself on the map and I highly recommend it. Book and visit with confidence!

The girls planned a couples night out and I wanted a meal with a difference. Mehana was suggested by a friend, so we went Bulgarian. The inside is decked out and the music was not the norm 😄. Any complaints of slow service doesn’t take into account the idea in Eastern Europe that a weekend evening meal is an event. We were there for a couple of hours loving it and only just got to finish mains. The house singer started and that was the end of our evening as one of our group has hearing issues. Did that person complain, nope. They just said next time we need to get here earlier to try some more of the menu while they can still talk!! Saw a video of how the evening went and it was not the average coach and horses event, we missed something great.

Traditional Bulgarian cuisine and atmosphere. Food is fresh and delicious, cooked with love. The BBQ is really amazing. The owners are always there focused on the service. We genuinely felt at home.

Food quality has dropped significantly,tasteless salads frozen chips,meatballs made of old mince. Extremely loud music you cannot hear the person next to you and on top of that from traditional bulgarian restaurant it turns in to place for gypsy music. I guees profit matters more than anything. Very disappointed.
