Mediterranean in Sheffield

Since being taken over by the new management this restaurant which was good is now simply bad. The service is appalling, the food is mediocre at best and overpriced as are the drinks. Worst of all - ridiculous delay - nearly 2 hours between our order being taken and food provided. Not going back.

Unfortunately this place was terrible. We had slow service (2h wait for our main!) and the food was below average.

This place has changed dramatically since our last visit. It used to be a special treat sort of restaurant, but now it's more everyday. They seemed to have run out of lots of things from both the food and wine menus. Having said all that, the food they did have was delicious. Atmosphere wise, the lighting was way too bright, there was a table near the door that looked like it was a bit of a dumping ground for paperwork and, randomly, a baseball cap and the few of us who were eating were jammed in to a cluster of tables really close to each other.

was quite dissapointed to be honest. the fish dishes don’t come with any vegetables just 3 options of potatoes. chose here as we viewed the menu online, turns out it’s an old menu, new one was so dissapointing. took a while to choose food then when finally decided and waiter came to take order when i asked for what i want he shook his head and said they don’t have it. why not explain to us before what they don’t have in stock before us looking through the menu. we both feel sick the next day, was too oily and can tell the fish isn’t fresh. music was also way too loud and off putting.

Some friends had been to the Mediterranean for dinner a couple of months previously and had raved about it. We returned with them and were looking forward to a great evening. I'm not a fan of faux velvet tablecloths or paper napkins but no matter, the food would be wonderful. Unfortunately we never found out whether it was or not as after an hour and a half waiting for our starters, which we were assured would be with us "in five minutes" after one of our party went to find the waiter, we departed. Bit of advice - if there's a problem, tell your customers. Don't ignore them. At least ask if they would like another drink and explain what the delay is. We headed home, hungry and disappointed.

I don’t normally leave reviews but felt a couple of months after my last visit I had too, especially after reading a couple of negative reviews. The sea bass was the best I’ve ever tasted and I’ve eaten sea bass all around the world It came on a bed of the most sumptuous risotto. Yes I read on the earlier review it was just a plain white risotto but oh my goodness it needed no other ingredients with it, as it was just perfect and trust me I’m so fussy when it comes to risotto as it’s one of my all time favourites. The Parmesan and truffle fries were so moorish and the staff were amazing. The chef came and spoke to us and what an interesting story he had to tell of his chef ing experience in Romania. They have definitely lost one of their greatest chefs by him coming to grace the tables of Sheffield. Anyway one thing is for sure, my table is booked !!

Staff were friendly, the seafood we had was pretty much all over cooked. It also seemed over priced for the quality of the food. Maybe just a bad day 🤷‍♂️ Decor didn’t seem very in-keeping with the Mediterranean theme…

This restaurant was recommended and the website looked good. The restaurant is small but clean and nicely decorated. The music was too loud to talk easily..and we do like loud music!! The waiter appeared disinterested throughout, we ordered hummus starters and waited over 20 minutes only to be brought a large bowl of mussels to share! He apologised no eye contact and our starters arrived shortly afterwards. The beer battered cod and chips was very soft, greasy and overcooked with no vegetable accompaniment. The salmon fillet was plain and cooked placed upon a very large round of plain risotto rice, this was very over cooked solid. The presentation of both dishes was very poor. Within an hour of sitting down the waiter constantly hung around near the table, moved chairs, walked backwards and forwards whilst we ate. He cleared the table immediately checking for desert orders. We were still drinking our drinks when he appeared with the bill on a plate…which he gave to my male friend! Which is just funny that people still do that 🤷‍♀️ I paid as planned and we won’t be returning.

Under new management/ownership. Food excellent, service friendly and not imposing. Only minor criticism is the quality of cutlery but otherwise I'd find it difficult to fault. Been twice in 10 days :-)

Good fish. No vegetables as sides, dreadful service uninterested waiter, looks cheap (awful velvet table cloths) but it’s not at £24 for halibut and chips! Didn’t enjoy the experience.

We were really impressed with the makeover and new management. Excellent food and service at reasonable prices, as well as good portion sizes. The atmosphere is marked down slightly but only because it wasn't very busy. I'm sure it won't be long before it will always be busy.

Absolutely Amazing!! My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at The Mediterranean Sharrow Vale and we were blown away by the quality of the food. The new owner and Chef have done an amazing job! The new décor sets the scene from the moment you arrive and you feel like you're actually in the Mediterranean on holiday. My wife had the mussels to start and I opted for the lamb kofta which was beautifully flavoured and remained juicy. For mains my wife had the Lobster, Scallop and prawn black spaghetti and I had the 16oz Tomahawk, medium rare. Everything about both of these was perfect. The staff are very friendly and attentive and service was fantastic. The drinks menu is extensive with an amazing selection of fine wines, whiskey, and even a 20 year aged Columbian Rum, or if you want a special treat you could order a bottle of Dom Perignon. We will definitely be back, with a larger party as there are so many delicious options for food. Definitely worth a visit if you love seafood. We would like to thank everyone at The Mediterranean Sharrow Vale for a very memorable wedding anniversary and we will see you all again soon!

I was surprised to see 1 star reviews but this restaurant is under new management now. The food is amazing! The portions are huge and the prices are very reasonable. Ordered starter and main (usually I order only main) thinking it would be a small portion. But I was very wrong, both plates were huge and food was delicious. Will definitely come back more frequently! Don’t forget to order some cake at the end, one of the best I ever tasted!

I visited the Mediterranean last night. It is under new management and is great. I recommend you try it out. The food was delicious. I thought the prices were very good value for the standard and portion size. I will definitely be going back 🙂

Went in today service was absolutely brilliant although food needs improving food was bland no taste and no texture could hear an male from the kitchen banging and shouting they didn't have much stock in swordfish tasted bland and was abit like eating rubber might try agian in the near future but won't be going back for an while

Was a great place years ago but sadly downhill. The starters are overpriced and tiny portions. We had 2 baskets of bread(tiny rolls) straight from the freezer. They were still cold in side. The mains were better but not enough veg for 4 people (2 tiny dishes ). Total bill £194 inc wine for 4 people eating frozen food. Never again. Service at best was adequate. No water on the table , wine wasn't poured, needed to ask for what I wanted and only 3 tables in.

The food didn't live up to the expectations and prices... To charge over £6 for a tiny bowl of salad and one ring of squid and 3 mussels and call it seafood tapas is disgraceful!!!! And the bowl was chipped!😡 If you aim to be a high end seafood restaurant invest in the decent crockery! The only reason I didn't refuse to pay was feeling sorry for the trainee chef... Overpriced frozen food. Tiny, and i mean tiny portions. Whitebait was 7 pieces. The red mullet was two teabag size fillets, full of big bones, 3 mussels, a prawn and a shot glass of rice, no clam as advertised. Half the menu missing. Service poor, atmosphere none. DO NOT EAT HERE.

Super attentive waiter but sadly the food was mediocre.

The restaurant was cold. To be fair it was a cold day but the heating was poor. They were short staffed. The waitress was very caring but had to also help in the kitchen so was not able to be at tables much. The food ( mainly fish menu) was presented nicely but was under seasoned and didn't taste of much. Such a shame.

Arrived Friday evening to be welcomed by a lady who showed us to our seats and settled us in. We ordered drinks and a range of starters. Everyone has something different, my chicken skewers were excellent as was the Feta salad. Two separate fish starters were also very good, one mussels and the other king prawns. The mains arrived piping hot and again all very good. Every one chose a different dish. Red Mullet was outstanding, sea bass too. I had a steak with Madeira sauce and it was well cooked with a good choice of vegetables. Our waitress was new but guided by her manager delivered excellent service. We finished with a Crème Brûlée, bread n butter pudding and a chocolate tart and cleaned the plates. Overall a lovely meal, fantastic service and all topped off with a manager who was more than happy to chat about the restaurant with passion

Four of us dined here on a Thursday evening. The meal was outstanding - one of the best I've had. Perfectly cooked and beautifully presented, with a great choice of dishes on the menu. This is the 3rd time we've been here recently & I can't recommend it highly enough. The squid starter is lovely with a sweet chilli dip. I & my friend had the seabass fillet as a main course which I chose to have on a bed of creamed mashed potato with a beautiful beurre blanc sauce. It also came with a small selection of vegetables including dauphinoise potatoes. My friend had the accompaniments which were listed on the menu. Our partners both had the poussin which they said was fabulous. We didn't have room for dessert unfortunately, but finished off with coffee. Our waitress Samantha couldn't do enough for us. She explained that we could switch around the accompaniments & sauces on the menu to suit us. She was also very knowledgeable about how the sauces & dishes had been cooked. Do not overlook this lovely restaurant.

Seven ladies from the local neighbourhood had a meal on Tuesday 14 th November. It was our second visit to the Mediterranean and both times did not disappoint. The waitress was efficient and friendly, the food was hot and well presented. There was a good choice of unusual fish dishes. Puddings were spot on! We will be returning!

What can I say This restaurant tried to say we had one of our meals when we didn't then tried to charge us for this , The review James has put is accurate .We asked for the manager to come speak and he wouldn't come .Him saying they didn't pay was utter rubbish .You wouldn't let them leave if they didn't pay .They paid for the meals they had not the duplicated ones you said that they had .I contacted the owner and was utterly shocked by his response saying that people like that should stick to takeaways and are not worthy of his restaurant.How dare he ! He had the opportunity to put this right but he chose to be obnoxious and rude .Looking through previous reviews he has said very similar things to customers who have commented.I suggested to anyone thinking of eating here to NOT bother and get a TAKEAWAY it will be a lot nicer X

Had geared myself up for a special evening but it was disappointing. The place was practically empty on what could have been a busy night. Food was nice although the bread was tough and there were hardly any wines available and items not on the menu. Also, the service fell far short of meeting customer expectations of what could be perceived as a slightly more upmarket dining experience/restaurant. Unlikely to return.

We had a wonderful meal. There's a deal on at the moment Mon to Thurs zarzuela and paella 2 for the price of one. My husband had the paella and l had the zarzuela - both were excellent. Our daughter had the salmon which she raved about. A lovely dessert and then decaff coffee. I would urge anyone to go and sample. The nicest meal we have had in a long time

I was here with family on a busy Saturday night. The food was excellent and the service is great. Seafood platter to die for and monkfish tail cooked to perfection. Recommended.

No atmosphere as only ones in at 7pm on a Friday To give the title of a seafood restaurant is very ambitious The bread was hard , no cutlery to crack the crab , not much flavour on the cold platter of seafood and would have expected more variety , didn’t feel fresh We had different main courses and we all tried each others , duck was well over cooked and tasteless , Mussels were tasteless and not a big portion for a main It’s a shame as I used to go to this restaurant a lot a few ago and loved it so not sure what has happened I know there is a of competition nearby Unfortunately I won’t be returning

I took my parent out for a meal last night and I genuinely hate leaving a bad review but in all honestly this was the worst meal I've had in a very long time. Starting with a plus the service was good, the waitress was lovely but the food was abysmal. Seafood platter was tasteless and I was scared eating it that I was going to end up ill ( to be clear I was not). The Duck very was overcooked and tasteless, Veg horrendously undercooked and tasteless. I would be very surprised if this place is still open by summer.

Dear google, where to start. I have many fond memories of this place. Used to have a proper Mediterranean vibe. We ordered 12 x tapas so had a fairly comprehensive overview and guys what I (as a random person on google) would suggest is a complete overhaul of the menu. Also offer water and finger bowl. I’d love to be more constructive but there just isn’t time here to go over every dish. But certainly discontinue the fish stew for now as I can still taste it. Basic points: Meatballs dry (easy fix). Chorizo: paper thin (easy fix). Patatas bravas watery but alright. Mussels not fresh. Med bread hard, more topping. Veg burned. Baby aubergine was alright. Also maybe get off your phone and properly read a Mediterranean cook book. Or even check YouTube. Would definitely love to come back though when everything is completely revised. You can do it. All the very best guys

today I was here for the first time in the restaurant, I was very happy when I saw that there is fish soup on the menu. To be honest, I was not completely satisfied.. The first error here on the Google page says the soup is £6.50.. Later I saw the soup is £8.50.. The Google page probably has the old menu with the old prices. But ok £2 difference is not a big deal .. Well unfortunately I got half a plate of soup with something cheesy in it ... but the soup was literally an empty fishy flavored juice .. There was nothing in it, not even a small piece of fish or a few grains of crab. Soup is usually served with a couple of small slices of toast, it wasn't either.. So the £8.50 .. was not fair in my opinion .. I ordered a glass of wine which is about £4.85 a glass ... Well, a glass is actually 3/4 Of glass .. The restaurant itself is cozy, a bit romantic inside, but because of the price and portion, I decided not to order anything else .. I know the price of everything is very expensive these days, but a nearly £10 soup should give me some extra taste, why I go to a restaurant and not I cook it at home. After that I went to a Kurdish restaurant ... I ate some lentil soup it was very tasty .. £2 .. I had a drink £1 then I ate a lamb kebab + lamb shawarma wrap again it was very tasty with homemade sauces and I paid £9 all together .. Dont get me wrong this more professional restaurant so I understood is more expensive.. but I feel they to pull up the quality and portion to match they prices ..

I have been wanting to come here for years and it didn’t disappoint! The food and service was great and will definitely be coming back. Great selection of wines and the fish selection was awesome! Would recommend to anyone who loves fish :)

Tasty, well presented seafood and very attentive service. Incredibly friendly and you could tell the staff really care about their customers and their food.

Have waited 20 years to go to The Mediterranean. Finally made it to celebrate a friends birthday. Having booked months in advance we were offered a choice of 2 tables, one by the kitchen and one by the door. Not the best locations. The restaurant itself was really cold. One of our party had to sit with a scarf on all evening.2/4 starters were unavailable. 2/4 main courses were unavailable 1/4 deserts not only unavailable, but hadn’t been available in the 6 months our waiter had worked there. Luckily they had 1 bottle left of the wine we ordered! Food was average. Not the amazing seafood I’d heard reports off. Starters (albeit not what we originally wanted) were lovely. We thought we were off to a great start. Sea bass main course was served with bachelor’s savoury rice!! Ordered chicken and chorizo paella - received seafood paella. Deserts were mixed. 2 of them were still part frozen. The beetroot ice cream was delicious though. Staff were friendly, and service was pretty good. Overall left feeling disappointed with what a should have been a lovely celebration. Unfortunately will not be returning. Expensive for what we had.

This is a real find. The menu was great . They also serve tapas. The food was well cooked and presented. Service was friendly and the waiter happily changed our table for one near the window, even though it wasnt set up. Can really recommend this place

Absolutely delicious and super fresh seafood, amazingly prepared. I also really appreciate a restaurant that has the courage to allow BYO on Mon-Thu with just a £2.50 corkage charge - bravo, guys.Puddings were clearly bought in and not amazing. Don't bother with them, just fill up on starters, tapas and lovely seafood!
