McDaniels in Dundee City

Lovely friendly little bar on edge of city centre, excellent pints and excellent bar staff. Very relaxed atmosphere, well run pub. Great at weekends with live music too.

Felt welcome, was quite when we were in. And the wonkiest (unbalanced) pool table ( creates fun, if your just out and about for 1 or 2with your bestie or bigger group)

Went to mcdaniels to support the business, and I can honestly say the food that came to our table was fantastic, certainly never left hungry, the starters were big and the mains were huge , I would certainly recommend you go and taste it for yourselves

i have to be honest the place is better if you go through the day as i dont get accepted at nights but its brilliant through the day

Very much a locals / regulars pub. We were made welcome by the bar staff. It is pretty loud and was really really crammed with people which was a surprise during COVID.

i just had take away meals but sit in Meals looked nice ( its a Totally different place from going in through the Day as going in at Night ) the Staff on through the Day are so much better the Staff come on at night you feel like taking your own Life ITS like 2 different Pubs if you are going i would go through the Day obviously as like any other Pub just now it will be a boreing atmosphere with COVID 19 thing but least the Staff are nice through the Day not at night

Me and my girlfriend have stopped in here a couple of times now. Cant fault the food at all and the guy behind the bar (who assume is the owner/manager) is always really friendly and extremely approachable. Will definitely be back in soon for some more day drinking and good food.

Went in for lunch today, and the food was brilliant! I got the macaroni and my partner got the steak pie, and we shared the haggis balls! All food was freshly cooked, roasting hot! The bar manager, Pete, came out and had a chat with us both, which is good. Lovely when the manager makes the time to come and have a yap. We like to go along at night, with the bands on for a few drinks but this was the first time in years I had been in for food and def up there with the best macaroni in Dundee! Will definitely be back for food And drinks!

bring back AMY .1 of the best barmaids in dundee. its not the same since she left. she made you feel really welcome. not like the dour face barman .

My friend and I visited Dundee for the day. Wanted a good pub lunch and that’s exactly what we got. Freshly prepared good food. Welcoming, friendly staff topped it off. Will definitely visit again.

Went here out of the blue on new year's Eve at around 5PM in a group of 7, and the pub was really quiet ( before the new year's eve storm I think ), so I did wonder what it would be like with such a quiet bar at the time. Peter the manager made us feel very welcome and explained all of the food options. The food is simple pub food and nothing fancy, but it's all done very fresh and to a good standard, my brother really loved the steak pie, my fish and chips was good. Meal came fast, all of my group loved the food and quick service, credit to Peter and his staff for making us feel so welcome and relaxed. We will be back again and recommend this place to anyone wanting nice pub food with friendly and helpful service.

Food was really good. Ordered steak pie and tikka masala for our mains, nachos and soup for starters. Everything was cooked perfectly, good size portions. Proper homemade food and excellent service! Highly recommended!

I don’t usually go out my way to write reviews but this place was incredibly disappointing. We were served off tasting water in a glass with lipstick on it. We ordered the chicken goujon sharing platter which consisted of 4 tiny chicken goujons and a pile of tasteless chips along with okay onion rings which took up most of the plate, the garlic bread was burnt and tasted weird and I had to force myself to finish the plate. The best thing about my meal was the can of coke. The barmen looked miserable the entire time and stared at you from the moment you came in. This place does not deserve the good reviews it gets.

Popped in to McDaniels for lunch and so glad we did. I ordered the steak pie,new potatoes and veg and my partner ordered chilli con carne. Steak was amazing, not a bit of fat,literally melted in my mouth. Pastry was clearly home made and again melted in my mouth .veg and potatoes were also nice and very fresh . Chilli was great. Great quality tortillas. Pete the owner and chef also showed us around the kitchen and it was immaculate. No complaints whatsoever. Highly recommend. We will definitely be back

De turismo por la costa decidimos comer en dundee, nos apetecía comer algo típico de Escocia y fuimos a este pub, ya que las críticas eran buenas, y que está situado muy cerca del puerto y céntrico.

We came in as a group of 7 for lunch and were easily accommodated. Peter - the manager came to our table and gave us some recommendations for food. Everything made with fresh ingredients, we will definitely be back before the end of our trip!

Arrived later in the evening with my wife. All the surrounding restaurantes were closed due to the late-ish hour. Peter, the manager, opened the kitchen and made us a great bar meal. Fantastic service. We stayed on and had a couple of drinks due to the great atmosphere.

so love this pub you are made to feel so welcome mainly busy at weekends but its brilliant i would say to any group off persons going out for the weekend night out go down there especially when CHERRY BOMBZ is on

Popped in for lunch today, McDaniels hasn’t changed for years, food today however was excellent. We had a steak pie and a chilli burger both were very good and clearly cooked to order. Pete the manage clearly takes pride in his food and the service he provides to customers. Polite and attentive to anything we needed. Would highly recommend McDaniels to anyone who is looking for a bite to eat in the city centre. Typical pub grub but done well!

Warm welcome from manager Pete when we arrived. He explained some of the most popular dishes before we decided on mac n' cheese. Cooked fresh and served with a side of chips and salad. Hit the spot just right.

Excellent food and drink and amazing value for money. If you are visiting Dundee for anything I’d definitely recommend coming here.

Food is great, as we were reassured by the fantastic manager/waiter they don't use frozen stuff. We were also given a complimentary chicken tikka dip, because they don't like wasting food. Very friendly and chatty manager. Varied taste of music. They gave us a table on a game night even though all the pubs were full, so greatly appreciated. Overall we had a very positive experience and a beautiful end to our Dundee day trip.

Came in for Sunday lunch with our family visiting from London after reading very good reviews online and we were not disappointed. Lovely, warm, friendly, welcoming pub with fantastic, homemade comfort food. The owner was very friendly and very proud of his pub and rightly so. The steak pie was better than my mums and the macaroni and cheese was sinful! Well done on a great traditional pub that we'd highly recommend and come back to next time we are in Dundee

1st time visit to Dundee and we received a very warm welcome from the landlord of McDaniels. Food menu was typical pub food but was very well cooked, piping hot and nicely presented. Steak pie was delicious and great value for money. Will go back again if in Dundee

There is a good choice on the menu, we had macaroni and steak pie. Both were excellent choices and we will go back.

Fui con unos amigos hace unas semanas, después de una experiencia realmente buena la última vez, llegamos muy tarde. Lamentablemente, la cocina estaba cerrada, ¡pero el chico tuvo la amabilidad de volver a abrirla para nosotros! Como de costumbre, la comida no me decepcionó, recomendaría encarecidamente este lugar a cualquiera que quiera una buena comida de pub. El pastel de carne es mejor que los nicoles y mucho más barato.

The meals are fresh and made on premisis , the service is better than you'd expect for a pub , and the atmos is up there with any other city centre attraction. Whilst more pretentious places are opening around it , this place keeps a casual decorum. A really good place for couples , groups , or just nippin in for a quick pint. You'd be hard pushed to find a better place any where in the city.

My son had fish and chips, and the fish was awful.It certainly wasn't fresh haddock. It looked like it had been cooked days ago.My husband and I had chicken and bacon baguette, that too was not good. The chicken was chunks of cheap chicken that I think was meat that you would get cold in packs and was heated up.Very dry ,horrible sandwiches.Would not recommend to friends and family. Paid and left .

Come here two days in a row by with different groups of friends, had the steak pie both times and I have to say it was 10/10 - the service on both occasions was great, the staff were very attentive and friendly, and the prices are much better than other places in Dundee - highly recommend, will be back

This place is a little gem. I got the best steak pie ever from here 10 out of 10. The guy behind the bar Pete was great and managed to multitask and serve people whilst still cooking my tea.

Tea for 3 with bottle of wine. Guy who has taken over as manager very attentive and friendly. Food locally sourced (so we were informed) - 3 clean plates..food hot, tasty and reasonably priced...oh and wine was delish!

Had a really nice night, manager was trying a bit too hard. Food was good, pastry was frozen, burger was bought in and fried egg was burnt and dry but the atmosphere and comfort from staff and the trying from the manager own his own working like a trooper will make me andy family support and come back again due to the homeyness of their service

Looking for an easy and enjoyable lunch with the kids occupied elsewhere, we found McDaniel’s in the Spree book and gave it a try.

I took my kids there and it was great food. Fish and chips, mince and tatties, steak pie and macaroni all got wolfed down. The staff and chef are brill too. Always seeing that you're ok. 10 out of 10.

I went in with my 9yr old as he likes to get a game of pool, the food is cheap and cheerfull and does what it says on the box, not the tastiest of food but the atmosphere is good and the staff pleasant.

Went into mcdaniels with my four friends , was quite busy so was told by the waitress it could take 20 mins, we didn’t mind as we would have drinks first, I had chilli and chips my friends had macaroni , breaded haddock and veg chilli, we all cleaned our plates was the best bar lunch we have had in town in a long time , will definitely be back. Treated my mum to lunch today in here have been before and was looking forward to it but food was bland. My mum ordered the steak pie to which she was told the butcher guy hadn't been today. Also there was no mince. Yet we seen the same waitress bring out steak pie for someone else. We both ordered the macaroni with chips and salad.. The chips were awful and the macaroni was bland and the sauce was watery. Not how the food used to be so won't be back!

Had a fantastic time as we went for lunch with the kids. The manager Pete was amazing had alot of time for the kids. The food was fab and a great price too! Great relaxed environment with the kids being able to be kids so made the adults time more relaxed.

We had the pleasure of frequenting Mcdaniels twice on our trip. Last evening we had excellent service by Peter & a classic rock band played as well. He spoke about the delicious breakfast they had. My daughter mentioned that she missed having pancakes as we are from the US. Today we went for breakfast and Peter put pancakes on the special of the day. The breakfast was very hearty and delicious! The four of us enjoyed pancakes as well as Scottish breakfast. The service was impeccable and the prices were very reasonable. We have one more night on our trip and I’m sure will be back. Thanks for the great service Peter!

By far the worst meal I have had out of McDaniels went for a lunch with my partner food was far to much salt in gravy and on steak making it barley edible left half of it will not be coming back agian.. should have just went to the beach and got a glass water from sea would have been cheaper ps don't play rave music during lunch hour

Apareció para el almuerzo. Fue antes de que se abriera el menú del almuerzo (11: 30 ish). El gerente estaba más que feliz de cocinar el almuerzo fresco a pesar de que era antes de las 12 pm. La comida estaba bien, buena comida de pub. El servicio fue impecable. Una buena cerveza fría para. El gerente fue muy agradable y atento pero no dominante. Volveremos. ¡Gracias! !

Yo estaba en el desayuno un domingo y me sirvieron casi de inmediato. El gerente estaba atento a mis necesidades (vegetariano). Un buen lugar para ir a desayunar, todo es fresco. Era tranquilo cuando llegamos y el gerente pasó un tiempo charlando con nosotros. He comido más tarde el día anterior y la comida es muy buena. Muy recomendable para comida y también para música en vivo. Por la noche, especialmente los fines de semana, el lugar está lleno. Defo uno de mis lugares. Siempre sugiera McDaniels a sus amigos si están buscando algo diferente para comida o música.

Visitamos MacDaniels antes de una boda hoy, el lugar era perfecto para un trago antes de la fiesta, Pete, el gerente nos ofreció un Rhubarb Gin especial, ¡se presentó maravillosamente a un precio fantástico! El ambiente del pub era genial, con muchos temas interesantes que ver, si no tuviéramos prisa nos hubiéramos quedado durante el día. Was in MacDaniels on Friday 03 May 2018... late afternoon....stayed until closing time....Great, really friendly place to visit, bar staff are amazing, Band was great, and amazing gin cocktails...other customers were so lovely too Best night in the longest ever time....Here's to next time out in there ....cant wait xxx

Very friendly welcome from Pete. Good food, reasonable stock of drinks. Menu ideas excellent .Live music at the weekends. This venue is sure to rise again given its proximity to the revamped Waterfront. In for lunch, order taken and served fairly speedily. Excellent preparation of plates - Chilli, Chicken Fillet Burger and PROPER ( note the capitals ) Steak Pie. All meals were enjoyed. However special mention must go to the Steak Pie. I will leave the final words to my son, " Thon steak peh is better than meh Grannies.

Fab meal tonight, Peter was a very courteous, well informed waiter. Fish and chips were fab! All 5 meals served together and piping hot :-) We will definitely be back for more 10/10

The food was outstanding the service was amazing and was the best pub lunch Iv had in a long time, Pete the new manager has done an amazing job and was really friendly will definitely be regulars here especially when the new menu comes out I would recommend this to anyone as the steak pie was really yummy and at a reasonable price and I had the baked potato at £4.50 and couldn’t finish it due to the large portion sizes left with full tummy’s and happy faces.

We went here for lunch during my husband's lunch hour at work. They were very quick at serving and the food was delicious. I had the macaroni cheese and my husband had scampi chips the platefuls were huge. Excellent value for money!

Went in for lunch on a Tuesday , we weren’t sure if to stay because we were the only ones in. But we stayed anyway and so glad I did , I had beef chilli so tasty , one of my friends had steak pie new potato and veg beef so tender and my other friend had lasagne garlic bread , when we got the bill it was awful cheep , the lady said they do two main meals for 12.00 Monday to Thursday , what a brilliant offer , will definitely be back , it’s all been brightened up , it’s so lovely , I will be telling all my friends and family to go for lunch ,

Visitamos aquí con amigos para una noche de Navidad. Pedido de antemano nuestra comida un menú de dos o tres platos. Servidores amable, todo el mundo disfrutó de su comida.

Aquí el otro día fuimos a comer, y era genial, la torta de carne de primera categoría. El personal de Jackie n jenny bar donde también muy complaciente. Definitivamente volveremos!
