The food was delicious with large portions and the staff were great. The only problem was they had the doors to the restaurant wide open and it was high single figure °C. I said it was freezing when we got there and she closed them and put on a heater, then they opened a door again! One couple came in, sat down and left and some older ladies just didn't take their coats off. It may sound like I'm making a fuss but I was surprised to see steam from my husband's breath as we were sitting as far away from the doors as possible

Best place in dundee to try some Arabic food

Would rate it lower than 1 star if I could, because of how rude and discriminatory one of the staff waitress was. I went in with my wife a week or so ago. I was particularly hungry that day and was planning on ordering a sizeable amount of food and so asked the waitress if I could sit on one of the larger tables which seated 4 people. To which the waitress told me I couldn't since it was reserved. I said OK, and pointed to another unreserved 4 seater table, to which she said that its for 4 people sir. I understood and sat down with my wife on a table for 2. As I looked around the restaurant, I noticed that it was filled with couples and guess what, all of them were seated on tables of 4. 3 couples to be exact, all seated on tables with 4 chairs, while my wife and I were told we couldn't sit on one of the unreserved tables because "it was for 4". This waitress also works at the bar inside this restaurant, and I called her to me and asked her why we weren't allowed to sit on the larger tables when literally every other couple in the restaurant was seated there. She told me don't be offended, I'm just trying to do my job, you can sit on the table if you want, and when I told her this is unacceptable to treat your guests differently from others she told me don't take it on your ego??? I walked out of the place after that completely disgusted by how she dealt with the situation. Please feel free to go to this restaurant if you want to be treated differently to others in the restaurant, it's your luck. I planned on ordering loads that day, but I was more than happy to do that at a place elsewhere where discrimination wasn't rampant.

Great Meze - liked the decor and bar setup.

We had a great time at Mazaj, friendly place, great selection of foods, wines etc. Next table had some fiercely hot flaming dish brought, very dramatic! The menu variety means you could eat for a very reasonable price if you wanted, or spend more and have a feast. Six meze for £25, plenty for two I think.

We were regular customers here and normally get the meal for 2 but was disappointed the other night as we didn't get the usual bread we normally get and got Nan bread instead which did not go with hummus and the rest. We also only got 2 bits of lamb instead of 4 but and extra kofta which we don't really like. Food didn't taste the same either. I messaged the restaurant to let them know that I am disappointed and asked about the bread to see if they still do it but they didn't reply. We will not be going back.

The vibe was amazing. The servicer an indian gentleman, who was very polite and helpful throughout the course. The food was a little blend but overall a great experience!

Absolutely excellent. I cannot fault anything about it. We are visiting Dundee for the first time and came across this restaurant whilst wandering around. We went for their Mazaj Grill (6 cold mezze, 6 hot mezze and a selection of chicken with rice & bread) so that we could try a few dishes. It's a lot of food but not obscenely so, and everything was delicious. The service was also impeccable and the atmosphere was really nice as well. I would highly recommend!

Food was very tasty. Service extremely slow, and not very attentive. Took forever to get served, then had a very long wait for food. We had to ask for plates and cutlery for the main courses. Would have preferred to see the bill before we paid it, as a (unwarranted ) service charge had been added.

Disappointing We have visited this restaurant multiple times, but tonight was extremely disappointing. First, they had no lamb. Next, the oven was broken so they only served bland pita instead of bread and there was no bread on the tagine so it wasn’t really a tagine. No one said anything about the oven being broken until we questioned the lack of bread. If there’s no bread and they know it, bread item should be off the menu instead of tricking customers. The service was horrible as well. Our drinks didn’t arrive until well after the appetiser. Plates weren’t cleared and we waited for ages. We won’t be back and we won’t recommend this restaurant anymore.

My husband and I went here tonight to celebrate our anniversary and I couldn't fault anything. The service was excellent and prompt. Our waitress explained what each course of the hot meze was. The food was absolutely delicious and plentiful. We saw other diners having their leftovers boxed to take home, but we were greedy and ate all of ours! This is definitely my new favourite place to eat in Dundee and I can't wait to go back. 👌

I would give 0 stars if I could. Please avoid this restaurant at all costs. I booked here for 8 people for a graduation meal 2 months in advance which required a deposit of £80. I arrived on the day to find a note on the door that the restaurant was closed, without any prior communication, so I queried what had happened and why I wasn’t made aware of this. I was informed that the restaurant had had an accident and they would be open again soon. This sounded fair enough. I did ask for my deposit back and I was reassured I would get it back “once the manager comes back from holiday” On several occasions, after phone calls and messages I still didn’t receive my promised refund. As a last resort I phoned once again to be met with a familiar voice. I requested to speak to the manager to which the individual replied “the manager passed away today, cry with me”in a tearful voice, which was awful to hear. The individual then changed his stance and he informed me that this was “just a joke”. I was deeply upset and offended that the individual felt it’s okay to joke about death to a customer in order to avoid dealing with a situation professionally. Furthermore, the man on the phone was the same man who informed me that his manager was on holiday but it turned out he was the manager all along. Not only did he lie from the beginning but also faked a death in order to avoid returning my deposit. Entirely inappropriate, unprofessional and insensitive.

Very poor food and service by Mazaj. They take a service charge without asking and even a glass of water is charged. The water bottle was already opened when they served and they billed that as still water.

Update the hrs properly if you are closed

Went a couple of weeks ago, four of us. Food good but "optional" service charge put onto bill without asking, at end of meal. If you are having to put service charges onto every bill to pay your staff, please put the prices of your food up so that it's more transparent for us all. Otherwise it just feels underhanded.

Food amazing, Service not so, I ordered a lamb Kebab and after asking why it was taking so long I eventually got a Chicken Kebab. After saying to the waitress it was a wrong order I didn't have to pay for it. I will return but not soon

Staff very welcoming and attentive, aroma of food was just mouth watering, when food did arrive it was presented well and was absolutely tasty. The lamb tagine was melt in your mouth. Will definitely be booking another table soon.

Outstanding Arabic food. My lamb chops were grilled to perfection, the rice was light and fluffy and the salad vegetables fresh and crisp. Partner couldn't have enjoyed her lamb tagine topped with fresh baked bread any more either. Will definitely be back!

the sauces don't compliment the food at all, the meat portions are small for £20 meals, rice should not be paired with this cuisine at all, bread seemed to be fresh and warm.

Dined in twice, ordered Mazaj Grill for four as take-out for having people to the house. Food travelled so well, same quality as you'd get sitting in. Very happy!

Bit disappointed with it. Iskender kebab filled with what seemed like endless bread cubes and BBQ sauce. Pretty slim on the meat. I ordered a lot of dishes, borek, olives, halloumi, tabouleh etc..wasn't overly impressed.

First time and enjoyed the food plus the friendly service.

Starters were really good however the main course was seriously over-,priced for what it was - 4 skewers of minced chicken on a pile of bread with some sauce & a tonne of yoghurt. Also one of our party's order did not go though & they had to wait, offered a drinks as compensation. Also what looked like a 10% service charged added as well.

I don't normally leave reviews but felt I had to after the amazing food we had at mazaj. My partner and I have ate at a lot of dundee restaurants and this is the best. We had the mezze and every course was delicious, the portions were huge and had to come away with a doggy bag. Thank you so much.

Visited again with a friend, booked a table (advisable) very friendly welcome from all staff and owners. Ordered a bottle of wine, very reasonable at £19 and very nice. Ordered the chefs choice platter, 3 hot 3 cold mezes with bread, all mezes were delicious. Then an Iskander Mixed and Chicken JeeJay Kebab, All food was freshly made by chef (owners wife) well presented and very tasty, a really nice restaurant spacious and bright a luvly atmosphere. Worth a visit. Will be returning :) :)

Extensive menu with meat heavy options but also nice cold dishes. The pricing is on the pricier side for Dundee. Service is average but easy to book for large groups. Nice interior but gets smoky inside if you order the flaming platters.

Give this about a 4/10, not the worst place i have ever eaten at but pretty close. Me and my wife both ordered iskenders they were very greasy and what felt like made up of litres of yoghurt, swimming in it(maybe meant to be like this but we eat out all over the country at various Arabic, Turkish, Middle Eastern restaurants and its never like this) After we had eaten, we piled all the plates into the middle of the table(we were clearly finished eating) and the servers must of walked passed 10 times and never cleared them up or even asked if we were finished so after 20 minutes we eventually had to call them over and asked for the bill. (place was not very busy either) They add 10% service charge which is a bit cheeky in my opinion for a party of 2 with pretty poor service but hey ho, we paid and left. Might of been a "off" night as the place does have pretty good reviews but this is our honest review. P.s the place is beautifully decorated inside and has a nice traditional feel.

Went here for a family dinner with a group. We had ordered their mixed grill platters with meze. I won't call it a mix grill as it was mainly chicken items, and nothing much of lamb chops, kabab kofta, or lamb pieces, which of course are more expensive than chicken. It isn't worth the price they are charging for the platter. Overall taste was just OK but not something that makes you come back.

Mix feelings here. The one dish we have received was excellent but our other dish wasn't only because of the language barrier. I have said at the start that I am vegan and gluten-free. We have ordered safe options for us, and there was quite a choice. One dish arrived perfect the other with cheese on top, which wasn't in the description of the dish. So they apologized and 5 min later dish which should take to cook 30min, was there. With pastry all over it- again my information about allergies dismissed. So I just swap with my husband. Turn out the veggies were not even cooked. Management apologized and they took that dish from our bill but mix feelings stayed. In general was ok. I can recommend the tea.

Not accommodating at all, chef was extremely rude and arrogant. We wanted to order a pepperoni pizza from the kids menu for our seven year old and two year old to share but just have pepperoni on half a pizza. I was not going to order another kids meal for my two year old as she would not have eaten even a quarter of the pizza. It was not about the money i just hate wasting food.The chef explained that even though the pizza was made fresh he was not happy to make small changes due to it being busy, there were only two other couples in the restaurant. I just could not understand why a nearly empty restaurant would not make this tiny adjustment to our order. We just ended up paying for our drinks and went to another restaurant called Milas instead. Why should i spend my hard earned cash on a restaurant that does not care about its customers. Will be telling all my friends and family to avoid this restaurant. Milas was amazing, the staff were super friendly and the food was fantastic and even though the restaurant looked full they arranged for our table so quick we didnt even have to wait.

Absolutely wonderful. The staff are so kind and welcoming, and the decor is outstanding. It is a lovely place to sit and relax with friends and family. The food is superb, and it’s wonderful to see the chefs freshly preparing it. Thank you so much, I will be returning!

Great service, the best vibe in Dundee

This is like a nightmare that I want to, but can't without some serious therapy, repress. I can't get over how horrific this restaurant experience was. As someone who's had several years experience in hospitality, this was dire. The drinks took nearly 30 minutes for the most basic cocktails or bottled beer! It was physically painful watching everything that happened. I wanted to physically do their job for them because they clearly haven't got a clue how to even work. The chefs looked absolutely baked out of their minds, just floating aimlessly around the kitchen, poking, prodding and playing with the food on the grill. A table of 5, 3 of which starved for hours because we didn't get our food for what seemed like an age, then when it came, it was drowned in yoghurt, the bread was soggy, the chicken was disgusting, almost suspiciously so, and the vegetables were like they'd just been chopped, tossed for a second in a pan then dumped on the plates. It was flavourless and awful. Our other 2 friends got a relatively nice (kind of) meal? It was a bit of a mish-mash of random little dips and some bread then when the "main" part came, the meat was wayyyy overcooked and dry and chewy. I've tasted and enjoyed food cooked by real chefs, this was not that! If you care about yourself or anyone else, do not go here!

Great authentic Arabic restaurant

Had the most delightful meal. The food was bursting with flavour, the bread amazing. Fantastic to watch the food you order going on to the grill and cooked as you order. Starters were so nice, full of spice and just the right size portion. I would highly recommend a visit to this place

What an experience!! We visited Mazaj for dinner and were blown away! We got a little bit of everything, meat platter, cold and hot mezas. I couldn't finish the food as it was so beautifully filling. A delightful mix of flavours and extremely friendly staff

Had the most wonderful evening with great atmosphere and lots of delicious food served by a very helpful waitress. Highly recommend the Chef's Mezze platter - there was so much and so delicious we had to take the leftovers home in a doggie bag! Will be back before long....

Service was terrible. Definitely missing a few things from our platter as well. Not enough glassware. Was drinking red wine from a whisky glass.

I have been to this place 3 times and each and every time the service has been poor. The most recent visit our drinks order was not taken until 20 minutes after we had been seated. Starters took over 30 minutes to arrive and the main took 40 minutes. It is evident they need more waiting staff. The food itself was very good and the bread is freshly made. However, I will not be returning because of the consistent poor service.

We collected a take away from here and it was ready so fast and very tasty. Loved the houmous and falafel, will be back again. Huge menu, with a good vegan & vegetarian selection. I like how we got Arabic bread with our meal too.

The mezze options are fairly tasty, but after we finished those, it took nearly 2 hours for the main courses to come. We were all past being hungry by that point, which might have been ok if the food had any flavour at all, but 3 different mains were bland, and cooked poorly, with chewy dry chicken and under prepared veg. The whole party of 5 were very disappointed and left feeling like we'd been robbed. Would not recommend it to anyone I cared about.

It was annoying to see chefs moving their mouths while preparing food, using mobile phones,heating food in micro, the price was too high to be worth such food. The woman with the headscarf was a beautiful service. I can't visit this place again.

Visited this restaurant tonight and I was a bit disappointed!!! I ordered the "Mixed Grill for One" @ £22.95 I expected a decent helping! Unfortunately, it didn't match my expectations :-( The quality of the food was very good, however the food that !!was served did not match the menu description! :-( When the menu description says "Lamb Chop's" I expected to get "Lamb Chop's" and not a "Single Lamb Chop" :-( & said he When I mentioned this to our waiter, he laughed !!!!! He mentioned this to the chef who also laughed :-( Then did nothing about my question. So unfortunately, they have lost another customer!!! :-( So in summary, food was good quality, however the service was poor & in my humble opinion, my food was overpriced for what was supplied! :-(

Great place but service a little bit slow...food is lovely as well as the staff.

Ate here for early dinner. Restaurant was empty but it was early on a weekday. We ordered a mixed starter and Iskenders for mains. Decor, staff & service was good as was the starter but the let down was the mixed Iskenders, only two small skewers of meat, the rest bread and I mean a lot of bread and covered in a tasty yet pretty basic sauce and yogurt, definitely not worth the price of them.

Very stylish restaurant, good menu with vegetarian options (not much of vegan tho :(, that’s why I’m rating this place only with 4 start), very friendly staff both in the kitchen and in front of house. Food was yummy and portions were huge.

Had a late lunch at Mazaj today, food was delicious and we all really enjoyed it, thank you, however just as a comment the let down was the service. Felt as though staff were not interested in their customers and we had to approach bar twice to ask for a) general service and b) another drinks order. Would eat here again as no faults with food- hope service is better.

Excellent food, great atmosphere, and not unreasonable prices for the fare provided. The set platters with the flames are quite a sight to behold, the bread is cooked freshly and has just the right amount of char and the Turkish coffees are severd with the right amount of pizaz.

Second visit here and we were not disappointed. Food brilliant, service brilliant, can't speak highly enough of this restaurant. The staff also were excellent and kept us amused all night.

Overall this was mostly a positive first visit and we're certain that we'll be back, though we hope some things improve so that it can become a favourite of ours. We enjoyed the mood and décor, it was warm, inviting and the smell of hot charcoals and grilled foods made us very hungry. We ordered a beer each and then the £45 basha (spelling from memory) platter between us, since it was for 2 people - the assumption being that it'll be a cracking deal, and enough for both of us. When it arrived the platter looked great, smelled great, but it was immediately apparent that this wasn't quite going to cut our appetites. The grilled meats where delicious, well prepared and served with rice, bread and sauce. At 1 chop, some lambs, some chicken each, this wasn't very good value for money and we feel it should either cost much less (£30) or be enhanced with more meat and trimmings. We weren't too disheartened however, it definitely tasted great, but we left still a bit hungry... The other dishes we seen while we were there looked fantastic though and we're eager to try more specific dishes next time to get a better feel for this delicious cuisine.

It was a lovely experience, the food was amazing and fresh. There is also a vegetarian option. The staff were really nice and friendly. We can see the chef cooking our food, which was a unique experience. The place is very cozy and homely. I would recommend it to everyone. I hope this place actually stays in business and not close like a lot of the other restaurants in Dundee.
