Dil'Se in Dundee City

An impromptu visit to a restaurant we’ve long admired but never visited and it did not disappoint. From the moment we walked through the door receiving the warmest welcomes and smiles from both Arjeet and Rehana waiting to show us to our table. Both witty, charming and helping us to choose. We settled for the lamb bhuna, tarka dhal & saag paneer and it wash divine. The flavours and spice combination 👌 we’ll definitely be back and urge others to visit!

A Disappointing and Concerning Experience at Dil’se, Dundee Visiting Dil’se recently was a deeply disappointing experience. The restaurant, once known for its great food and atmosphere, sadly no longer lives up to that reputation—at least based on my visit. The interior felt outdated and poorly maintained, and I noticed several flies around our table area, which raised hygiene concerns. The waiting staff were polite and attentive within their limits, but seemed unsure how to handle anything beyond standard food and drink orders. There appeared to be a manager overseeing the floor, whose presence made the atmosphere feel quite tense. He interacted with us directly but came across as abrupt and unwelcoming, which added to the discomfort. We ordered the pre-7pm meal deal, which included a starter, main, rice, and naan for £20 per person. While this sounded fair, the issues began when the food arrived. The starters took around 20 minutes. My daughter had the chicken pakora, and I ordered chicken tikka breast bites. Upon cutting into the tikka, the texture didn’t seem right. It was unusually resistant to the knife, and upon tasting, I became concerned that it was undercooked or possibly raw. I stopped eating immediately. I alerted the staff and explained my concern clearly. One server seemed uncertain and asked if I was sure—fair enough, but it was disappointing to feel questioned in that moment. The dish was taken away, but shortly afterward, another portion of chicken tikka was brought out. I had to explain again that I wasn’t comfortable eating more chicken from the same kitchen after the earlier issue. At this point, two separate staff members approached me offering alternatives and stating there was nothing wrong with the food. While I understand the need to stand by your kitchen, I felt under pressure rather than supported. What I was hoping for was a sincere apology, a clear acknowledgement of the issue, and a goodwill gesture—especially given the health risk associated with undercooked poultry. I chose to cancel the rest of our order and asked to pay only for the drinks. The staff waived the drinks cost, which I appreciated. However, the overall experience left me feeling unsettled and disappointed. Before leaving, I quietly advised another table to be cautious. They chose to leave as well, which was entirely their decision. Everyone has off days, and mistakes can happen in any restaurant. What matters most is how those mistakes are handled. In this case, I didn’t feel the response was adequate or professional. I’ve since contacted the relevant food safety authorities to raise my concerns formally. My intention is not to shame, but to ensure standards are upheld and to help prevent future issues. We ended up eating elsewhere that evening—at NYPD Pizza just up the road—and had a fantastic meal. A small silver lining after an otherwise unpleasant experience.

Horrendously overpriced, average food at best, and we were made to feel very unwelcome by staff and other customers. Never had a shocking experience like this in a restaurant before. Only complement I can make is our waiter was great! The other staff, horrible... pretty sure they stole his tip too, as we left a £12 a different staff member took it and just put £2 in the tip Jar!

Great food and service in Dil Se. So nice to have it back. The food was even better under the new owners than it was before. Was good to see lots of tables occupied on a Thursday night. Pay a visit. Large menu to choose from. You won’t be disappointed

My partner booked us into Dil’se for my birthday and it was absolutely amazing. Staff are very good, welcoming and attentive. The food was a level above exceptional! The crispy pakora, the spicey sauce was just heaven, the best pakora/sauce mix I’ve ever had! Honestly incredible. The mains were absolutely delicious, crazy delicious and that Peshwari Naan, help ma boab that naan ! Totally the best naan we’ve ever had, my partner and I agreed this was an absolutely fantastic meal, that naan, that naan bread, if you like the thick doughy uncooked stuff, thankfully none of that here. Clean toilets, nice temperature throughout the restaurant, very pleasant staff. I opted to take some of mine back home, doggie back if you like, and noticed the carry out bag was from a sister restaurant in the Ferry that we’d been to a couple of years ago and had a great night there too. Tayside is blessed, I’m a Weegie who had a great weekend in Dundee including this utterly delicious restaurant! 👏 Thank you team Dil’Se from the heart ❤️

We had a fantastic dining experience at Dil’Se! As a lactose-free couple, we often struggle to find restaurants that cater well to our dietary needs, but the team here went above and beyond to accommodate us. The staff were incredibly attentive, knowledgeable, and made sure we had plenty of delicious options to choose from. We went for the £19.95 meal deal which came with an appetiser, starter, main and choice of nan or rice. The food itself was excellent—fresh, flavorful, and well presented. It’s clear that a lot of care goes into both the menu and the service. Whether you have dietary restrictions or not, Dil’Se is a great choice for a wonderful meal. We’ll definitely be back!

Excellent food and plenty of it, staff are amazing and very friendly there was 8 of us and everyone enjoyed there food.

Great Lamb gosht. Really great dishes and portion size and service. I would recommend coming here to anyone. Fantastic.

We booked for 18 people and service started afterwas waiting nearly an hour. Then was asked from the server if we trust him to order a few starters to share and then it started 3 different starters for everyone and we complained why all these starters and told thats what we ordered??? 3 of our team left due the time taken so asked to cancel there meal as not out. Then the trolley loads of food came out without clearing what we had, table was like a bomb site. We asked for 3 different nans and they brought out 3 for everyone and told no more but kept bringing them out!! Then the rice, which we asked to share between 2 people and he brought out 1 each and the extra meals we cancelled. There was that much on the table you couldn't move!!! Bill was doubled even though we didn't asked for half of it. But it was diabolical 2.5hrs till we left. The girl who serverd the drinks was great and if it wasn't under the company name I wouldn't have paid for any of the extra they kept bringing out. The old short gentleman didn't want to listen just kept putting the food down. Even after complaining and telling him No more. Never again 😒

“Run” if you are looking for “Indian food” and step into Dil se restaurant. It’s not an Indian at all. Terrible taste. Waste of money. Don’t even try Manchurian 😭

Enjoyed an excellent meal at Dil'se before heading to an event at the nearby Whitehall Theatre. The food was fresh, tasty and well presented while the staff were always friendly and attentive. Dil'se's early evening menu was also very well priced

We were delighted to be invited to the long awaited re-opening of Dil’Se today. The food was absolutely delicious and service was perfect with friendly and attentive staff. Thanks very much to everyone at Dil’Se for making our visit so special, we’ll definitely be back!

Probably the best restaurant I’ve tasted so far in Dundee. A bit pricy hence the 4/5 stars but definitely recommend. Try the lychee and banana curry it was insane.

The ambience is good. Staff are nice and helpful. They serve Indian, Bangladeshi cuisines. Food quality and quantity was good. However, all curries were too sweet and it did not taste as authentic Indian/Bangladeshi recipes.

Friendly service, spacious dining room, varied menu. Our dishes (Chicken Royal and Chicken Pathan) were tasty and reasonably priced. The Peshwari naan was excellent. Only negative was the pricing of King Prawn dishes at £24.95 each. Parking nearby with 2 hours free.

Had an excellent lunch here yesterday as part of a group of friends who lived and worked in India previously. The food and service were great and we had a super lunch. Highly recommended

Gone downhill with prices racing up My lamb jalfreza was underdone and reD dye had been used. A practice banned years ago on health grounds.

Ordered meal for 2. 3 small chicken pakoras,half a portion of rice. Luckily ordered a portion of chips extra. Very poor portions for £30. Will not be back

SHOCKING! Phoned this place to book a table 8 days in advance for a special occasion. A friend of ours called ahead to put a bottle of wine on our table, to be told that there was no booking in our name. He calls me, I call them to be told I had not made a booking as they had a party of 40 booked. You can work out what happened here. To add insult to injury, the manager hangs up on me! I go down there and show him the 50 second call to his number on my phone and he still rudely denies what's gone on but eventually concedes there must have been a mistake made. Not one apology was offered. Terrible way to treat people. There should be a zero star option on here.

Very rude manager on 22 January 2022 being rude to regular customers. A take away was ordered at 5.30 p.m. and was not ready at 7 pm for collection as agreed. No apology, just rude behaviour from him and very poor organisation and customer service. Best to try somewhere else in my view.

Do not order from here Food cold , staff rude ,young girl hung phone up on me and the so called managers customer service was if you dont like it dont order again ,he literally said that to me . Bought the meal deal and a lamb madras. When I got home the poppadoms and onion chutney were missing, both nan breads were stone cold and the lamb in the curry was grisly. Having used this restaurant before I rang to let them know I wasn't happy. The manager did not apologise but merely disregarded me with "I'll give you some poppadoms next time". Erm! The poppadoms were missing in the first place. Won't be ordering from here any time soon.

Hope you aren't hungry when you order because you'll be proper emaciated by the time it arrives. Order took over 2 hours to get here. Restaurant didn't answer the phone when we tried to make enquiries. Food was pretty good but then I was so starving I'd have eaten my own arm by the time it took get here.

Had a gift voucher from last Chritmas which went out of date in March 2021,we couldn't use it due to covid and all resturaunts being closed till the 26th of April this year.I phoned and was told i could still use it no problem.So arrived last night to be told they had a new manager and would not honour the gift voucher......worse than that,i phoned today to speak to the manager;only for him to cut me off 3 times.Shocking customer service,i would go elsewhere if i was you;somewhere where they treat their paying customers properly,will never go back.

Awful curries, just salt with food. Disgusting each dish we have. Prawns were chewy and all food was so spicy to the point inedible. Not recommended and a big NO NO.

We visited this restaurant a few weeks ago, as we were in Dundee for the weekend, let's just say the starters were OK, the nan bread was 😱 but the main dishes were delicious. Probably try somewhere else next time.

Very good food, service is amazing, literally finished my popadoms and the pakora arrived and then when i finished that my main arrived, probably the best service ive ever had in a restaurant to be honest. The jalfrezi is very good. Cannot fault the deal between 5-7pm.

The food here is always good, as is the service. I thought I'd give something new a try and had the chicken jalapani. It was excellent. A nice warm heat and lots of flavour.

We arrived late into Dundee after a long drive. This was one of the few places that was still open. With our tired kids we got a table for four and kept fingers crossed that we'd get a reasonable meal. What arrived wasn't just reasonable, it was excellent. After a few mouthfuls of food, the kids declared that we MUST eat at Dil'Se again before we leave Dundee!

Fantastic food , great menu and service

We were here for my husband's birthday very recently and the food was outstanding. Staff were friendly and helpful so would definitely go back.

I have been eating in this popular West end Indian / Bangladeshi restuarant since it opened . It was quiet when myself and a longtime friend dropped into eat . We were not disappointed and enjoyed our food and our conversation immensely. 😀 reliable as always . !!!!

Great quality. Bit more pricey than local takeaway but worth the extra.

One star is too much. Our waiter told us to wait and see what our order was before giving us some tap water. When the food arrived it was bland and the rice looked like it was heated up in the microwave. I definitely recommend this place if you have constipation.

Had a Chicken Ceylon and although quite hot and spicy, it just want fresh at all. Very Bland. The sauce was very stodgy and was worse than last night's dinner warmed up. No flavour whatsoever. The naan wasn't fresh, just really doughy and the rice was stodgy too. So overall, not impressed at all. I'm not a local here but come here quite a lot and have tried quite a few different places now. Bombay Joe's in the Ferry is a standout and nothing else has come close yet, IMO.

In terms of Dundee city centre, I have yet to find a better Indian restaurant. I recommend the Chasni! :)

Friendly service and really tasty food. Especially the garlic naan bread is positively different from everything i ever had.

Very poor customer service. Order placed via Uber app. Order arrived almost 1 hour early, when we weren't at home. Same food has been delivered 45 minutes later, cold and greasy. Restaurant refuse to take an action. I wonder what their health and safety policy is. Food went to bin! Waste of time and money!

Haven't been for a while, however I've been many times and the food is always brilliant and tasty. Service always very good. Highly recommend this place.

Nice enough, and big portions. However I ordered a pick up and still had to wait quite a while. I added a peshawari naan but didn't think it would take much longer. I got an extra popadum though.

Just really disappointed with the food... Everything was very bland. Three different curries, biryani, korma and jalfrezi (the latter two were part of a set meal) The pakora were very bland, the salad was not fresh. The only two items that were enjoyable were the Peshawari naan and mango dipping sauce. In an order of almost £35 it's not ideal that the only things any good were the bread and pre bought dipping sauce.

Just called the restaurant to place an order and the man was very, very, very rude. He hung up on me. I called back and asked him why he hung up and he said to me to place my order somewhere else and not at his restaurant. I then asked to speak to the manager......... guess what....... He said he was the manager. I am still in shock. What sort of example does the manager show his staff, If his behavior is disgusting, rude and not welcoming. I will never be going back to this restaurant and I advice you all to stay away. The manager needs training on hospitality and should not be in the position he’s in.

I came here for dinner with my wife. The service was good; polite and attentive. The restaurant itself is comfortable and clean, and the background Indian music authentic. But in our view the food was either average or below average, and there are clear areas for improvement. The pilau rice was partly stodgy and stuck together. Cooking rice well is surely a basic requirement for an asian restaurant. The chicken jalfrezi was strange. It was more like chicken tikka pieces in a ridiculously bright red sauce with a couple of peppers thrown in, and with little taste. The naan was doughy and stodgy. On the plus side, the lamb bhuna was better, but still unremarkable, and the samosas were good.

Restaurant is very comfortable plus the staff are friendly and professional. The meal itself was excellent and we will most certainly make a return visit and 100 percent recommend this restaurant

Slow Delivery, The Chef or Boss is winging it, this is not authentic. The Korma is just sweet without any flavour spice or auroma , Madras was just chilli powder. Pompadoms were soft, Chicken pakora batter was soggy. There are many many more better Asian takeaway / restaurants in Dundee

Nice welcome and food. Don't like the cheap pale pink paper tablecloths. The room was quite cold. I had my back to the window though. Bill was £53 for poppadums and dips, 2 nice curries, 1 rice and 4 drinks.

food is disaster!!their lamb dishes were awful! tiny portions and expensive prices! the staff were super rude!! their debit machine is not working you should bring cash!they're still in 19 century!! tried 2 visa cards and still did not work! he said noting wrong with the machine there is something wrong with you!!! (not your card) how rude is that!! supposed I was wrong you didn't study that customer always right!!!!! never coming back again

Amazing, so authentic but modern too. Really yummy food. Friendly staff, didn't have to wait for anything as it felt like everything arrived just as we were ready for it. Portions are generous too! The meal deal is a bargain and I cannot wait to go back. Thanks for a lovely evening.

Rude customer service. We were recommended by our hotel staff during our stay in Dundee. When we reached we asked for table for 6 people. The rude guy there told us if we going to have main course only then he will give us the table . What sort of question is that . You go to restaurant to have full meal. Further he said we need to wait for 30 min . We looked at him and before we cud say anything he started speaking in rude behaviour.Aparently , showed us the way out.first time in 20 years in UK we experienced this sort of behaviour.Humiliating experience of life time.learn to respect human being.would never recommend to anyone and would definitely share this to family and friends.

Very overpriced and with very mediocre food unfortunately. Small, bland, largely vegetable free curries at almost twice the going rate. £23 for a king prawn balti? Some pickles with your curry for £6? Empty too. On the positive side: clean and modern, well decorated interior with spotless toilets and a useful function room upstairs. Good service too. But nothing makes up for the food or prices.

It is not worth even trying this resturant. The portion is small, the prices are high, and the service is bad. They also charged us more than the menu prices.

My wife got a voucher a meal for 2. We booked for this evening, however it being a very warm day, they had the front door open. This led to a fly buzzing around, quite annoying! The meal was tasty, hot and we were served quickly and the staff were friendly and helpful. Will definitely go again.
