Maypole farm in Bedford

Visited here yesterday afternoon (3pm 18th May) I had booked over a week ago for 5 people and specifically requested a booth (my mother is disabled and the booths are close to the carvery). When we arrived and parked in the disabled bays a couple arrived in a large van and trailer and parked across from the disabled bays (basically blocking the bays in). We then went into the restaurant and despite two of the three booths being empty we were sat deep in the restaurant (far from the carvery). Sat right next to a large group of rowdy and drunken men, on the other side my chair was butted right up against another couple’s table. We could hardly speak to one another for the noise. Then they started loud phone calls on speaker phone, then playing loud music on their phone. But maybe the food would be okay? Sadly not, the carver on duty was the stingiest going with barely any meat. Also, what was there was fatty meat. My wife went to the toilets only for it to be blocked by two children. Once forcing her way inside the toilet a woman was in the cubicle playing loud music on her phone whilst her children stood outside. Overall we couldn’t wait to get out the restaurant it was truly horrible and fully of loud drunken guests…tells me everything I need to know about this place. Once out the van was still blocking the disabled bays, thankfully the space next to my parents was free so they could use that space to manoeuvre out. Won’t be going back here again.

Working in the area and wanted a carvery, this place filled that a treat. Good choice, carvery topped up with extra beef. If you like your carvery try it, you won't be disappointed.

been twice , first time was mediocre, 2nd time was awful myself and my daughter along with my best friend and her 2 young children visited on monday (11th may 2025) We had breakfast which was okay, , whilst we were watching the kids play, a gentleman started doing repairs around the area we sat at which was right next to the children’s play area now while i understand jobs need doing, I don't however appreciate how unsafe the area became for the 3 children during this time. I accept that the children are 100% our responsibility whilst in your premises, I was not expecting however to have to keep them away from super glue or exposed metal framing for the booth seating , especially as the work was being done right next to a kids soft play area. the work should be done out of opening hours especially as it’s a huge safety risk! along with this the man opened the back door (that’s in the children’s soft play) that stated it had an alarm and was a fire exit after he did this the children were super excited about the outside and kept trying the door (baring in mind the children at 2&3 year olds so didn’t understand why the couldn’t go out when this man just did in front of them) while our children were playing we decided to treat ourselves to some dessert before nursery drop off , my friend ordered 2 fruit shoots for her children and a cheesecake for herself along with a coke and i ordered a chocolate sundae , the drinks came along after 20 minutes of ordering , after that we waited 10 minutes and were saying its taking quit a while so i decided to go up and ask how long it would be i got told my the young girl she’d find out 10 minutes after that (now been waiting 40 minutes for our desserts) we had to leave otherwise i’d be late taking my daughter to nursery after making the decision to leave my friend went up and spoke to the same young girl who informed my friend to at a staff meeting was taking place , they were short stabbed and they were having a change over which i’m assuming from breakfast to carvery, i can understand this but there was our table and maybe 2 / 3 other tables so not a whole load of people so not exactly busy. and if this meeting was already known then maybe closing the door for couple hours would have been better instead of having poor service! whilst we was both at the front counter the girl gave us a refund for our cakes but then offered cakes to take home as an apology, which made no sense to us and surely if there’s cake ready to offer we should have received ours we were very upset by this experience as we drove 20 minutes to come to this place i can’t speak for my friend but i for one will not be returning

I had a great experience here. A very polite FOH staff greeted me to my table and I ordered via the app with ease. Drink arrived first and food shortly followed. They had a good gluten free menu selection and the quality was good.

Know Maypole from previous visits, this time it was Too Good To Go pick up. Surprised that we were given choice of what meat goes in the box, and then everyone just loaded their boxes with other food. Staff helpful, food good as always. I am glad that the restaurant participates in the TGTG programme.

Had mixed grill and they forgot the onion rings and my egg was raw wasn't cooked properly

4 adults dining for Sunday Breakfast. Wow, what a lovely way to start a Sunday! It was rather busy, but still felt calm and tranquil atmosphere. The whole service was excellent from entering to leaving by whole staff and chef,( food piping hot and hot water, butter and sauces replenished when needed. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. 100 % professional service. Even Maxine, clearing up the tables was very polite, professional and consistent. The cleanliness was very good. Thank you ALL.

We had the Chip Shop Supper and the Carvery. Both meals were delicious and good value for money. We were served by Kay who was friendly and helpful.

Food is great, carvery such a good meal with great choices of sides and sauces. The environment is relaxed and welcoming, Kay was working our area today, always friendly and helpful. This place is always one of the considerations when discussing eating out.

Had a great breakfast today I would recommend it to anyone that wants to greet them selves

We took our mum for dinner on mother's Day, it was extremely busy, but that didn't stop the service from being really good, the carvery was fresh, hot and plentiful also very tasty, we all enjoyed a lovely time with our mum. Thank you to all the hard working staff for making our visit one to remember........ If you could just get some lemonade for next time pls.

Absolutely filthy in there. Uncleaned tables, the floor was filthy, food on the floor. This was a Monday and was very quiet. Only one waitress on to cover the whole restaurant, serve and clean. Completely overwhelmed with jobs. The food was awful and bland. We left all three meals. It was very basic oven food and coleslaw straight out of the packet. We left all the meals and went elsewhere. Will not be returning.

Went for a Mothers Day meal. Play area was enough to keep 2 little ones entertained. Food was lovely. Carvery especially tasty. Puddings were great too. Served at the bar by Alex who was very informative and polite. Great atmosphere and customer service. Can’t fault it.

Great way to spend Mother’s Day! It was really busy, but the service was prompt and efficient and Kieron at the bar was friendly and great. Food was delicious and plentiful! Very happy :)

The highly aggressive member of staff on the carvery ruined the meal. It’s as if he had raised and nurtured them animals then didn’t want to let them go.!!! Extremely rude not just to us but to other members of his team. If he is on his period maybe he should not work at that time of the month. Horrible individual. ! Oh a by the way you should have taken more care with you cow. Even Han Solo thought it was chewy !!

The service is often inconsistent, resulting in a delayed meal delivery.

The main reason we came here was because of the inside children play area. Has a few soft play blocks and busy boards across the wall. We had a table next to it so we could watch the little one play while we ate and they could come back to us. Food was fresh and hot, nothing out of this world but did the job. All staff we came in to contact with were friendly

Great fish and chip lunch on a Friday afternoon. So much food. Tasty and hot. Staff friendly and helpful.

Lovely food as always and plenty of it.

The bar was loud but busy so not much can be done about that, the food was awful. Cold by the time we got to the table, the meat had bits of fat the size of 2p coins while the 2 pieces given being about 2 millimetres thick and tasting like a yoga mat. Wont likely be returning.

Food was great! Huge desserts! Service was good. Improving everytime we go.

I’ve visited the Maypole many times in the past few years, I’ve come to realize more than anything it’s the staff that keep me going back. Special thanks goes out to Emma AKA whiplash who’s always been polite and had time to treat you like a human being, rare qualities these days but customer service is king.

Went in for drinks, The service from Emma was great, really polite and attentive even though the bar was busy.

Very helpful staff (Janice) with fantastic food.

Attended the venue whilst away and was pleasantly surprised. Emma behind the bar was brilliant and always made sure we had our drinks full! Made our experience that much better! Will return.

Can’t fault anything, place is always clean, waiters are always friendly. Price is right kids area for the kids to play

Came here today with my sister. We had a lovely carvery. The food was very good. Kay was very helpful and accomadating. . I have been a few times now. Very good value for money. The surrounding is very relaxing. I will be coming back.

Was a lovely experience, excellent carvery with so much choice. It's the 2nd time we have been in 12 days. Will definitely go again when in the area or passing through. Highly recommend

Went here today with my dad for breakfast for the first time at this restaurant and we were both disappointed breakfast had a good selection but was cold. Inaddition the interior looked well worn. Saw a selection of cakes on display which I thought I'd get one to takeaway. I chose the Mars attack cake on display which I expected them to cut from the cake. However I was given a box from a fridge with it already in, when I opened this just to check I saw that there was no real mars bar on top as the display showed. I then enquired and said there was no mars bar on top of my piece of cake to which the lady replied no that's just for display purposes, despite there being portions missing which I was very disappointed as It costs £5.79 for a small slice. We was going to come back to try the carvery however after this experience we definitely won't. Would not recommend this place stay well clear.

A pleasant atmosphere with a nice enough menu, however they appeared to be short of ales and they were clearly understaffed at the time

My Carvery was delivered with ABSOLUTELY NO MEAT by mistake and the response from the restaurant to a deaf/disabled customer was VERY poor indeed. Ruined my dinner !!!!!!

Was first time visiting for breakfast. 3 adults 2 children. We all had buffet breakfast. One child refused to eat anything. The sausages were hard and the bacon looked raw and covered in white slime. Tinned mushrooms. Rock hard hash browns. The oj and apple juice looked fluorescent and was 3.30 a glass after the first glass was 1.50. Coffee for adults was unlimited. But not for children. Overall a really disappointing experience. Especially considering the place was pretty much empty. Definitely wouldn't rush to go back

We were served by Sam today who is such a credit to the place. He was friendly and so helpful. He made sure we had everything we needed and quickly sorted an issue we had. From the start to finish nothing was to mich for him. He alone would make me want to come back.

Took my daughter and family out for Sunday lunch as a thank you for looking after my dog 🐕 the food was excellent there was six of use and we took one meal home for my daughter's mother in law as she didn't come as she was ill . It was good value for money

Really great food. I keep returning here. I've of the best caverys in the area. Reasonably priced and tasty. I like the amount of choice you get at this cavery. Normally 4 meats and a wide range of vegetables to choose from. The cake slices are massive even better you can take them home to enjoy later. Restaurant is normally very busy and world advice booking to save disappointment. The staff do a brilliant job and keep the place very clean. You don't have to wait long for kitchen food or drinks.

The carvery leaves alot to be desired.. meat is hit or miss. Avoid the beef. The vegetables are either under or overcooked depending what you get. The Yorkshire's tasted burnt but weren't actually burnt... Which was odd. This is my second time here, thought I'd give it another go. Will stick to Tobys.

Mapole Farm has always been a good place to go if you are looking for a Carvery. The food was good and reasonably priced, so I would suggest it is a place to visit for either carvery or normal pub food with some slightly different serving/taste ideas. (and huge cakes/deserts)

Great place to eat. The carvery is great value, but even better during the week. Most of the food I've eaten there has been good and the drinks are good as well.

Very small portions, all deep fat fried, was meant to be 2 chicken breasts, think maybe from a pigeon, deep fat fried but grilled etc. Very disappointing

Breakfast buffet is good value. For less than a tenner you can have tea or coffee or both, plus buffet breakfast with eggs toast beans and the like.

Great place to have breakfast loads to choose from, very big restaurant. Staff friendly and helpful. Plenty of car parking.

This was a lovely surprise and real pleasure. For some reason I thought it was a Toby Carvery because of thr carvery menu. But it was so different to the usual carvery experience from the minute we set foot into the premises everything was so clean, food was so fresh looking, a really interedt cake and ice cream bar, staff very warm and friendly but also knew their stuff and were helpful and attentive. The carvery was so good, like home cooked food you would make at home, and it was hot!! Nothing worse than just a warm carvery - it needs to be hot!! So thankyou Maypole Farm for the lovely surprise, goegeous food and great service. We will be back! To the company who own Maypole Farm, every member of staff we met on Tuesday 14th January 2025 was an excellent representative of your company and are doing you proud.

I never got to eat here because their website doesn’t take bookings and despite phoning almost everyday for a month, I’m still waiting for someone to pick up the phone. Unless you live in the area and can walk in to book a table, don’t bother using the website or phoning. UPDATED DEC 26th - Following a reply from the establishment, I have provided a screenshot of the response I’m getting no matter when I try to book.

Christmas dinner at maypole. What an amazing experience, really made our Christmas! The staff were incredible, the food (3 course meal) was the best! As it always is the best best roast around! Amazing and thanks for looking after us and making our Christmas awesome. ;-) we look forward to seeing you all again 🤪🤪

Too busy, tried cramming as many people as possible at once. Food was very poor. Luke warm and tasteless. Found blue rubber bits in the mushrooms and when I told staff they were reluctant to do anything about. Personally a waste of money. It's a shame because we like going for family meals.

It very good for a quick and easy carvery

Typical Farmhouse Inn fare. Food was well cooked and staff friendly, very busy when we attended due to Christmas parties and takeaways but staff had it all in hand and service wasn't compromised.

We did have cold plates for our breakfast which made the food go cold quick, but apart from that, it was lovely. We had a couple of staff approach us whilst having our breakfast and were so friendly and helpful; service was great ! Thank you

Was there for a works lunch food was good BUT ONE SERVER had a really bad attitude and very bad. Would I go back not sure it was my first time.

I ordered a delivery meal for 5 from Maypole Farm, Kempston, via Just Eat, but the Just Eat driver only delivered 1 of the 3 bags, resulting in 3 meals missing!. I called Maypole Farm Restaurant and explained to the manager, and fair dues, he had one of his staff deliver the missing meals to me within 15 mins, even though they had already given all 5 meals to the Just Eat driver. Didn't get their names, but thank you Maypole Farm, Kempston, for saving our Sunday, and thanks for the free cakes too!. Much appreciated. Martin
