Amazing food, comfortable environment for cheap. I would absolutely reccomend this place to all your friends and family.

We went for a lunchtime buffet at May Sum. This place is very popular, there was a queue at opening time to get in. Nice food and lots of choice, attentive staff who were topping up the food trays and collecting plates. We asked for a Diet Cola but I thought my Cola had a funny taste. The food, though, was lovely, no complaints about that. You have to pay for your food when you get to your table before you take your plate for the buffet - maybe they’ve had people leave without paying in the past. I would certainly recommend a visit to this restaurant when in Nottingham.

We went on the 21st as a group of four. Entry was simple and quick (don't know why they don't charge on entry) but for about £17 each we thought it was good value. Having read previous reviews I was a bit wary, however there was no problem. The staff were all happy and polite and cleared used plates quickly, the food was hot and tasty and appeared well attended to so no complaints,except the room cosmetic was bad , the floor and wall and ceiling needs refreshing, the chairs need replacing as dirty and greasy, I think they steam clean them but they must be about 20 years old. We didn't have alcohol but we had water which was quick to arrive. Definitely going back.

Awful customer service! Manager is a joke Manager argued with me and shouting in the middle of his own restaurant in front of other guests. Makes you wonder how he speaks to his own staff. Disgusting

We were visiting Nottingham and decided to go into this buffet ready when we walked in we were virtually ignored just as we were going to go a staff member came and sat is down and have us the drinks meue she brought drinks over and just left them on the table and wanted payment she was so bothered about how tall the children measured up on there night chart the 9 year old was just over so she said she was going to charge adults price which was ok the staff seemed to ignore questions I asked 4 times for a finger bowl as I had BBQ spare ribs she said go to the toilet to wash hands the staff seemed very rude maybe they not happy the food was good we enjoyed the food the desserts were ok the ice cream was broken but there was tubs of ice cream so was no problem the toilets need alot more attention to cleanliness but the thing that lets this establishment down is the staff but as I say might have been a stressful day for them

after reading some of the more negative reviews put on here recently i was a little worried about how good May Sum Buffet was now. But what i found was a busy restaurant that was very clean .with polite staff . There was plenty of freshly filled trays of hot food A variety of desserts.The only missing was the ice cream machine which was broken. i had a lovely lunch there and would recommend it to anyone

The food is enjoyable I cannot fault them for that but when you have little kids going up unsupervised, picking up food with thier hands and licking it only to put it back down. It's very unhygienic.. they dont change the food that was licked and it puts people off thier food.. hopefully they get on top of this and it gets sorted out because for someone who comes every week it is a little disappointing to see that..

I had came here for a family meal today and everything was just poor. From the customer service to the training of staff and the food. I’m actually so annoyed at this from yesterday the more I think about it the more people should know! Up on arrival the children with the family wasn’t measured in height to see if they are under the “height” they sat us down we asked to not be near the door as it was cold and she said no other tables are closed… sorry what? Realised on the bill once the children had played their food they all got charged a child price.. we’ve asked for management to come over to sort the issue which resolved the children crying. They didn’t eat non of their food until the situation was resolved which took longer. Being told we can’t have a refund for the plate of food that’s untouched as he can’t “re use it” that instantly put me off. They checked the height of the children and realised they was wrong and given us the refund and we just left. Went else where. The drinks never even came to us before we even disputed this issue and then tried to bring them as we got up to leave. I come here every other month for a meal and never had this issue. I don’t think I’ll be back here again. I don’t have many good things to say to be fair. Nothing be done or said but £70 for poor customer service. No thank you.

Not been here for a couple of years and having been today,we won't be going back. We were there for lunchtime opening,staff didn't seem to care,place looks tired and dirty. Food wise, anything noodle or rice was cold,everything was bland or tasteless. Hottest thing was the broccoli. My mother (aged 87 ) went here for lunch with a friend. She paid by card and the waiter said it had not gone through the first time so she flashed her card again. When she got home and checked her account they had taken the money twice. Sad they have to con the elderly to make the business work.

We were in the city centre and decided to try this place. It was quite busy but were shown to a table straight away. The place didn't feel overly clean. I had the Chinese lager to drink which was nice. We had the buffet which the food was quite nice and was regularly replenished and seemed fresh. There was a good selection of food. I don't know why it is still open to public.We came at 16:45, we've been told that the price is £10.95 until 17:30.After that is £17 something.We've agreed to stay till 17:30 with £10.95 price but we've been charged £17 even though we left on time.We tried to sort it out with ''restaurant'' manager but he barley let us say a word,he was agressive.One of the waitress say the're changing food at 17:30 but SOMETIMES they're charging more at 17:00.Plus toilets in there are in horrible condition.Public toilets on Greyhound St looks much better.Food wasn't cooked properly.Some of it was raw.Most of the employers don't speak english.Our friends doughter been waiting ages for her juice.They didn't bother to bring it together with our drinks.

Food OK trays where almost empty, had to ask when they would be filled so I spent more time waiting for my favourite dishes than usual. I also ordered a coke under the impression that it was the real brand coke. Only it tasted more like cheap asda generic brand....they clearly charged me for a branded coke. Come on maysum at least lower the price on your cheap tasting coke or say you are paying for unbranded coke. Money grabbers!

I’ve been using this restaurant for years and it is pretty much what it says in the tin. Generally a nice selection of food, well cooked with a selection of deserts, it’s not like your larger scale eat as much as you can restaurants but then your not paying the larger price either. For all the money this place makes, it’s way over time for a refurb! Place feels a little sticky and old. Toilets always smell like back up drains, I would stay well away from the drinks, they taste like 17p soda water. For the price they charge you for coke and lemonade they can afford to use better quality drinks! If you ask for water it will always be warm and taste unfiltered! The staff are not very pleasant and act like they don’t know much to any English! When I’ve been seeing some of the staff there for years, decades! So I’m pretty sure it’s used just to cover poor attitudes! All in all for the money it’s always my lunch time option when in Nottingham city centre! I’ve never not found a reasonable selection of well cooked and fresh food!

When we got there, we had to wait near the front for a member of staff to actually notice us. They finally came over and took us to a table. They took the drinks order and took the money. I waited at the table while my wife used the toilet. During this time the drinks turn up but still no change, then I look at the drink and notice that despite asking for no ice, there was ice in there. I manage to get the attention of the member of staff who is now talking again and tell him about the ice. He took the drinks away, my wife returns and we go to get food. Upon getting back to the table, the drinks have been returned, once again with ice and still no sign of the change. I took the drinks to the bar which was only 10 paces away or so and complained about the drinks being wrong again and also did the staff automatically think that any change is theirs. Whilst complaining I did notice that a member of staff then went past me and put the change on the table. They failed to realise that I had just looked at the table but seem to make believe it was there all along. In my opinion the change was put there when they heard the complaint. We had a similar change problem last time which is why I was watching more. Whist the food was good it was spoilt by the atmosphere. It is more like a get in, get out food joint. The staff do not really care about the people there. The music was appauling with a member of staff trying to dance around the building playing air drums to something that just did not sound like music. (It was his choice as we saw him change the music). The speakers are on the one wall so one side of the restaurnt can hear it and the other side just hear parts of it. Getting close to it, we could not tell what sort of row it was but in a restaurant they should play songs that people would know and of different tastes but a general mix of music. All in all, our 50 mile each way trip will not be occuring again. This has gone downhill a great deal and it is down to the attitude of the staff. It is not welcoming but if you like being treated like cattle hearded around and you can cope with what the staff call music then maybe not too bad.

Disappointing, place is a little grotty looking, food is poor and tasteless. Main courses, too many bland vegetable choices. Has to be the worst buffet i have tried any where in the world. Sadly, cannot recommend despite the cheap price ! many better choices nearby. Unless you like rice and Singapore bland noodles !

Quick bite before a Monday night game at the City ground. A huge selection of well-cooked and seasoned food, wasn’t expecting much for £16pp but we went back for 2nds, 3rds and even 4ths. Cherry on the cake was the desserts and free-flowing chocolate fountain, which was a great touch! Would have had more drinks put the pay up front policy, and the poorly kept beer ment it wasn’t to be, that being said would return if in the area again.

I’m really disappointed with this restaurant. I visited with family after making the recommendation based off past visits. The food quality was not up to the usual standards and I found the management less than helpful. One of the party members has had a gastric band and would literally eat a quarter of a late of food at most. Even after explaining this to the waitress and management they were insistent that she would have to pay the adult rate. Everywhere else we have been they have accommodated this by allowing her to have a child’s portion but Maysum would not budge.
