Disappointing. No hot dinners being served. Nice panini but service not great. This used to be quite a reliable place for a decent lunch/dinner but nowadays not so much.

Where do I start ... Me and my husband entered this cafe to see that not a single table had been cleared, with a queue of customers mostly with unhappy faces due to the long wait at the till. So we decided just to get a coffee and maybe a slice of something sweet. So there we were, with our slices of sweet in hand, waiting in the queue of the damned to be served by the quite shy young girl at the til. 20 minutes or so later we made our way to the beginning of the line and placed our order with the girl. After we had been seen we then had to wait a further 10 minutes with a few other customers all waiting for there drinks. The lady behind the counter splashed hot chocolate on the floor then a further coffee. Not very perfession if u ask me. Finally found a clean table and sat down to our luke warm drinks and cake. Looking round we hadn't seen a single member of staff smile at a customer let alone have a chat with them. A little while into our drinks we smelled burning coming from the kitchen. Roughly 5 mins later a gust of smoke came from the kitchen. A women ran out insisting everybody had to leave and that they had to cancel the fire engine. Leaving a line of unhappy customers. One including a man who had finally received his sandwich. Who replied with " what about my sandwich" with a very sad look on his face. Alot of angry customers today I believe . We will not be returning to the cafe again for the reasons of. Unfriendly staff, long waits on food, dissapointing drinks and food.

After arriving, went up to queue, this took a good 20 mins, after ordering, had to also wait for your drink, which again wasn't the quickest, but we went knowing this so that was fine, sat at the table waiting our breakfasts, it was busy so we expected a longer wait than usual, then we started to realise people who got there after us, were getting there food, so we asked and it turns out they completely forgot our order, so after waiting an hour for our food it turns out it was never being cooked, so we got a refund for the breakfasts we never had and left, staff were undertrained and weren't enough of them, there was used plates and cutlery on most of the tables, nobody clearing up. Bad experience won't be going back anytime soon, waste of a Sunday morning.

We’ve visited here regularly over the last 2 years but something has recently changed, for the worse. The menu has changed slightly and the wonderful beef & horseradish sandwich has gone, together with the fish fillet in ciabatta bread with crushed minted peas. Today I had a “roasted vegetable quiche” which consisted of mushrooms and a tiny bit of red pepper skin! The last three times we’ve visited, our lattes have been so weak they resembled slightly flavoured hot milk. It’s such a shame as it used to be great.

Normally, this is a great place to eat. However today was quite the opposite. A curried vegetable pasty that was only just warm enough and an egg mayonnaise sandwich that had lettuce in (for some strange reason) and the whole thing was so sloppy it was almost drinkable. I sincerely hope this was a one-off

My friend and I visited for breakfast, which we do regularly. Today, we had a little toy chihuahua with us . We sat away from everyone, where they have a dog area, and were asked not to have him on our lap or on a chair that had a coat covering it as he was too close and the girl said that people have bee complaining in the past re dogs on the chairs or too close to the table. There was a lady with a very large dog that could put his head on the table and really close to it closer than our littledog, toy chshe also took it to the counter to get another drink were the food was, and they were not in the dog seating area. How is this different from what we did, but she was not asked to keep it away from the table as we were. I do understand the concerns about dogs being in the restaurant because it states dog friendly we didn't we what he issue was we our dog.

The food prices are well over charged. £3.00 for a slice of toast & jam. £7.00 to have qn egg with it. The cafe is very noisy/ echoing and not a present environment. The swrvice counter is also VERY confusing. There is no clear signs for where to orde / pay / or collect your food / drink.

Ordered a sandwich and a quiche at the restaurant, after sitting for 45 minutes and watching several customers who ordered after us, get their food, we went to ask how much longer our order would be, to be told that there had been a problem and some orders hadn’t gone through 😳 Everyone else seemed to have gotten theirs, so it must have been ours then but, how long were they going to leave us without food ? Absolutely abysmal, we visit here regularly but this will be the very last time, there’s plenty more Garden Centres around, who take care of their customers much better. This place is expensive and offer poor service in the restaurant…….avoid!!

Don’t bother going unless you can summon up the patience to wait for the dilatory restaurant staff - pleasant but so very slow! The cakes were ok, but pricey. The cacophony of sound in the over cluttered, ( mostly wheelchair inaccessible) ‘shopping’ area drove us away. The disabled lavatory obviously hadn’t been checked for a while. It’s sometime since we visited, and unfortunately, I very much doubt we would return.return. A real shame.

I met with my friend on Sunday for her Birthday. She had a ham panini, which she's had here before, I decided on the egg and mayo on grain bread, both came with a few leaves and a small amount of crisps. We also had a large cappuccino and a large latte. Firstly what I like about the cafe at Matlock Garden centre, the coffee is nice, dogs are allowed, it's bright and pleasant to sit in and the staff are friendly. What I dislike is the food and drinks are really expensive for what you get, I'm presuming the Mayo is vegan as it had absolutely no flavour, my friend had some out of the jar on her plate for the leaves and to dip her panini in. I obviously had it in my egg mayo sandwich which tasted of nothing, and I mean nothing, not mayo, not egg or was dreadful!! The bread was nice and fresh though, so I wish I'd just had bread and butter. Like I say I'm only presuming this mayo is vegan but if I'm not vegan I don't want tasteless vegan mayo, if I'm eating eggs I'm obviously not vegan. If the mayo isn't vegan they need to look at what they're buying and also where they're getting their eggs from as they should taste of something. My friend said she wouldn't have another panini there as it wasn't good. This is so sad, we've been going there for years because the food was nice, although on reflection the mayo never has had any flavour. Will we go back, it's up in the air, if you're charging these prices the food should be good

Quite a while since we've been here for food and tbh it'll be quite a while before we return. My husband only wanted something simple so the chef agreed to provide him with sausage chips and beans - the same as my three year old grandson asked for - cost for child's portion was £6.95. Husbands portion, served on same size plate totalled £3.50 for gourmet chips (I'd like definition of what makes them gourmet as they were chunky chips, the same as the childs!) £1.95 per sausage (x2) and £1.95 for a very small pot of beans, again same size as childs portion - his meal totalled £9.35 - which meant 5 extra chips (yes, we counted !) cost £3.40! The sausages were tough and extremely chewy and the chips were far from crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. We couldn't understand why there were only a total of 6 tables occupied on a bank holiday, sunny and warm Saturday but it should have given us a guide.

It would seem mpore practical to have one person on front side of house to do collections and wiping tables immediately people have finished. The tables often feel sticky and little evidence of spray or similar being used to wipe tables. Just think the organisation of staff is poor to give a great customer experience.....also few healthy options.

Food average in the cafe. Been here several times and if you like a good plateful to save cooking at home then this is the place for you. Very good value with regards to quantity. Food a bit tasteless but as a veggie one does not have too high hopes anywhere. Sometimes we can be pleasantly surprised of course. Very good for coffee with friends and of course the garden centre is very good but sometimes a bit pricey compared to others.

My wife had a Cappuccino and I had a latte. I was a little disappointed with my latte as l felt it was more like coffee flavoured hot milk than a coffee with hot milk. I was a lot more disappointed when I went to the counter and politely asked how the latte was made and how many shots of espresso were used. The response to my question was not unreasonable and the young lady explained my latte had been made with one shot of espresso. I then said " Oh, ok it's a weak latte" This was the point where she forgot that I was a customer asking a question about a product and climbed right up on her high horse. She told me in no uncertain terms that "No, a weak latte is half a shot and a latte is one shot" and as she had been Barista trained she knew what she was talking about. I let this slight rudeness pass and simply said that I would ask for a strong latte if I came in again but it did kind of sour my happy mood a little. We also had a Rhubarb and custard cheesecake which was passable but in truth the rhubarb wasn't quite tart enough and the centre although soft and smooth was quite bland with little hint of custard. The biscuit base was good though so it's something to build on (bad pun intended).

I was looking for garlic bulbs to plant - no joy, but there was a whole host of Christmas things for sale- I was a tad disappointed, but it seems to be a fashion at this time of year to sell Christmas things. However, This place is a great vendor of many other garden requisites, as well as nice knicky knacks - well worth a visit.

I visited this lovely restaurant on Saturday lunchtime with my parents. It was busy, but well managed and we were served quickly. There was lots of choice at the counter, all looked freshly home made. We each chose to have a beef roast dinner because it just smelled so good

We had paninis. My goat's cheese was delicious and both were well filled (some places you go the fillings are somewhat sparse). The portion of chips was very good too. My order was incorrect when it arrived (anyone can make a mistake so no problem) and the server immediately said she would return with the correct order (goat's cheese instead of plain cheese) which arrived a little later piping hot and fresh.

Called at garden centre today and decided to have lunch. There was a good choice of hot and cold meals as well as light snacks. Great selection of cakes and puddings. We both chose to have the pork dinner which was amazing - delicious. Pork - large slices and absolutely full of flavour - Yorkshire pudding, roast and boiled potatoes, peas, beans, red cabbage and carrots - all piping hot. Even the gravy was delicious. Staff were so helpful and friendly. They were attentive to everyone I who came in while we were there. Husband had a slice of chocolate orange cheese cake for desert which he really enjoyed. I was too full for desert. We will definitely return.

We were en route to Buxton and absolutely famished. Not wanting to muck around with trying to park in a town or village with parking restrictions, we were on the look-out for a pub with plenty of parking when we happened on Matlock Garden Centre. It seemed to be a very good and well stocked garden centre but that wasn't our objective. The restaurant is self service but there were plenty of staff around, clearing tables and serving etc. My husband had the roast beef option; his plate - a large one - was piled high with beautifully cooked beef and fresh veg and all the trimmings. I had a veggie pie, again with loads of veg and wonderfully tasty. Both these meals cost £8.95 and were worth every penny. Staggeringly good food which wasn't matched in Buxton or North Wales where we spent the next few days.

We have eaten at Matlock Garden Centre a few times now and always found that there is a good choice and the food is tasty. It is a bit "self service" style in that you queue to order or get what you want (if it is cold behind the counter).

My family and I attended on Sunday for a trip out. My Dad was really excited about having a bacon cob but was very disappointed when they took the breakfast away from under his nose and said that breakfast was over. I asked one of the staff members if she would be able to whip up a bacon cob for him which she was more than happy to do, my Dad was very grateful! The cakes were huge and gorgeous and the hot chocolate was lovely. Thank you for your outstanding service.

Only only called in for coffee which was average. The decor could be better but it is a garden centre cafe after all. The food was just coming out and did look good and it seemed that maybe quite a lot of visitors come here just for the food. Looked a good selection too at average pricing.

The garden centre is a good size so there's plenty to look at, including clothes, gifts, kitchen gadgets and pet supplies as well as the usual garden supplies. There's a large cafe which serves passable food but watery, indifferent coffee. However, I've never liked the atmosphere which is hustle bustle rather than relaxing. People were having to clear tables by stacking dirty crockery onto a couple of tables, in order to find somewhere to sit. Not a pleasant experience.

Went today for lunch having forgotten our previous experiences of littered tables that were not cleaned when the crockery & cutlery was removed. No change, dirty tables with food stains left by the previous diner/s, unclean crumby chairs, spilt food left on the flooring.

We stopped off on our way back from Buxton for a break and to look at some plants. There is a good selection of plants which are of a good quality and price. The garden centre was buzzing with people buying plants etc: which is a good sign, the staff were very helpful. The had good facilities for food and snacks and the food was fresh.

Having had a pretty awful experience at the Whitworth terrace cafe I came here with my parents for lunch. We had toasted sandwiches which were well made, tasty and well presented with a lovely crunchy salad. The staff were friendly and attentive. I would recommend this cafe to anyone.

Lovely place. People pleasant enough. Ordered some food. Should have taken 20 mins tops. Over an hour later still not had food. It was just a steak sandwich, which it said came with onion chutney. Crispy piece of steak with a few fried onions. Cold chips and onion rings that were sitting in oil. A couple that came in about 45 mins after us received there food first, and that was 2 curry dishes. Was told the steak took longer than the curry????

First of all it is an extremely clean pub / hotel and I agree dogs shouldn't be allowed every where. We have witnessed dogs sitting at tables in other pubs ..not in Bakewell. But we called in early doors last evening for a quick drink whilst waiting for the bus. Crikey talk about a frosty. . reception ...not from the young lady greeter but from the bar staff...we were told to sit in the back of the pub if we were only drinking..it was soulless . Not somewhere I would consider eating. Came back to Baslow for a lovely greeting.

Ive reviewed this place before as its our go to. We have been many times. We just got back from one night stay in the annex where we usually stay. We have never had any issues before but last night was a bit disappointing. The bathroom needs cleaning properly. The tiles and the drip bar under the shower door was terrible. The bath panel had been broken and not repaired and the bottom of the bathroom door was broken so we couldn't close it. There was dust on the headboard too. Late last night as we were tucked up in bed, the fire alarms went off so we shuffled outside in pjs and coats. No staff around. We went to Reception and ended up in the bar. No explanation really so that was a bit unnerving. This is our go to and i really want them to get standards back up. I dont want to start trying to find alternative places to stay but if it doesn't improve then we may have to next time.
