Mathura in City of London, Westminster

Went there today for a wedding lunch and it was so insanely good. Cannot fault a thing and am looking forward to returning with my family for a smaller dinner soon.

Very nice place, nice decor. The food was delicious and the service impeccable. The only downside is that the portions are quite small for the price.

Great resturant the food was delicious and service really great - they take your coat and were constantly topping up water and really felt taken care of. The butter chicken main was honestly exceptional and the desert was fun and theatrical but also tasty!

Food was solid, drinks were extremely expensive, service was good.

Terrible experience having allergens not supporting or helping me find something suitable. Unknowledgable staff which made me feel very uncomfortable. Unacceptable at this level! Wouldn’t recommend and would give 0 stars if I could

We had a private room to celebrate the birthday of Lady V, my better half, at Yatra. Exquisite venue, excellent food & a sterling service all around. I found them extremely easy to deal with; the food was much better than any I've had in London (the chicken + lamb were so well-cooked, Amit Bagyal is the Master Chef & every dish showcased his genius). I was really really impressed & shall be back. GM Francis was also extremely professional and the private dining room we were in, was out of an Oriental Rajasthani fantasia. Definitely an unforgettable night. We were gifted free champagne (and a bottle) to go along with the chocolate cake so that was a beautiful personal touch.

While walking the streets of london happened to come across an Indian restaurant tucked away from the busy streets. We decided to try so walked in. We were given a warm welcome by the staff. They were quite hospitable and polite, especially the general manager, who gave the right recommendations of food for our interests. Everything we ordered tasted delicious from the starters to the dessert. Would definitely recommend this place to others.

One of the best Indian restaurant I tried! I am French and don’t often eat at Indian restaurant. The food isn’t only good, but didn’t harm my stomach as it usually does. We were offered 50% off on A la Carte menu, which makes the restaurant super attractive. Essentially it is the same price than a regular restaurant with top quality food, and a great setting. Service was more than awesome! I do recommend!

Had 5 course tasting menu- regular for me and vegetarian for my friend. It was absolutely amazing. So good. Every course had an incredible sauce with the spices just bursting in mouth. Prawn and chicken were cooked to perfection. So glad we made it here for this meal

Exceeded expectations. The food was tasty and well presented. The lamb chips were totally delicious. The staff was polite and professional. A special thanks to Sree, our server who was so couteoand helpful. Will surely plan to go back.

Disappointing food and service. We got the set menu, 2 for £60 to try the restaurant before going again for the full a la carte experience but unfortunately we won't be going back. I wasn't expecting loads of food, just as well because the dishes were tiny but what I did expect was good quality but the chicken tikka starter and the lamb in the biryani were both dry. The service was hit and miss very polite but not very attentive, we were sitting with empty plates/dishes for about 15 minutes until I had to ask for them to be removed. It's a shame because I expected a lot better.

Very upmarket place - beautiful decor. I was using a voucher for the tasting menu, so didn’t get the full experience. What we did have was delicious, with good vegetarian dishes as well as meat-based meals. Portions not huge, but this is all a cut above the usual Indian restaurant.

This is a hidden gem! Have eaten here a number of times and it never disappoints. The dishes are delicious, imaginative, and beautiful. The service is impeccable. Highly recommend!

Absolutely blown away by the vegetarian tasting menu! It was incredible! Not only was the food amazing but the service was superb! My husband took me here for my birthday meal and it was amazing..also the waiter must have overhead it was my birthday and surprised me with a lovely pudding!

Food: 10/10 We had the 7 course tasting menu and it was absolutely incredible. The flavours and quality of the cooking was unbelievable. Genuinely one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Service: 1/10 Our waitress was just generally quite rude and abrupt. She got drinks orders wrong multiple times, was unattentive throughout despite the restaurant not being overly busy, and left us with our finished dessert plates for 45 mins. So much so that we got up and paid the bill at the bar and gave up on the petit fours that were on the menu or a post-meal coffee.

Food was amazing, we did the tasting menu which was brilliant, couldn’t fault it. However, not given 5 stars as the service was not so great. A few waiters were sharp and understood fine dining however, the main waiter, giving an explanation of what is being served whilst using his pen to point to the food which was a shade away from touching the food itself and saying ‘I think it’s ….’ And ‘I’m not too sure’ is beyond ridiculous in such an establishment. Sincere training issue.

Excellent food well done. The taste of the spices, saffron is well blend into the food & sauce. Not cheap, as we order Ala Carte but it worth it. Good selection of wines for the food.

Taste, portion, presentation, ambience and service - all five stars. Very classy venue, with great tasting food. You can definitely tell why it’s founder was awarded Michelin stars.

Oh my goodness. Never been to a fine dining indian restaurant before but this was amazing. Cocktails with Indian twist. Fabulous wine list. Highlight was the lamb dish which had lamb 3 ways and the lightest garlic naan bread. Very very special place

Had the set lunch. All good taste, presentation and friendly service. My one recommendation is that the kebab main at £11 extra, is not really worth the extra cost, compared to the standard mains

I was so looking forward to trying out the food at this restaurant as it is owned by the known chef Atul Kocher. The vegetable pakoras were almost burnt to smithereen.I asked for it to be returned which the waiter duly did but without any apology or asking if I wanted to order something else instead. Yes, I was charged for it! The main course was a dish of roast aubergine which came on a dinner plate of its own with some relish. It was a big enough portion to serve two. The topping on the aubergine tasted like a cross between ratatouille and bean bolognese. It lacked seasoning and in my opinion, not good. The side dish of black lentil was ok. Nothing wow about it. The dessert looked very appealing and was supposed to be of mango but apart from the color, it lacked the true flavour of it. To say that it was bland would not be an understatement. There was no hint of any spices such as cardamoms, saffron or nutmeg or garnishes such as pistachios and almonds that are so typical of Indian desserts. A typical example of style over substance. Very below par. I'll tell you what takes the biscuit - the two relishes, a green coriander chutney and tamarind chutney were served together in the same little bowl. I have never ever come across this before and quite frankly it was most off putting. Are they prepared separately only to be served in the same bowl? No, not meant to be served in the same container! Maybe this is his definition of fusion. All in all, a major disappointment bearing in mind how I've heard him go on about various spices, their freshness and combination to make authentic currys/curries and how the receipes have been handed down generations. Perhaps he needs to spend less time on tv appearances and more on the food which he professes to know about. Definitely over-rated. To sum it up, it seems like Atul and his chef forgot to bring back the spice tin from India. As for the service, very average, if not below. For the prices charged, I expect the waiters to be smartly dressed and more attentive - one of the waiters had his trouser hanging loosely on his waist with the shirt not properly tucked it. Need to work on personal appearance and presentation. A big let down!

People say curry is the UK national dish and this is a great place that full fills that wish. You can order a la carte or tasting menu, both appropriate for an authentic venue. It’s a fancy place you can come to celebrate, an anniversary, a birthday, meeting with an old mate, Or even a place to bring someone for a date. the experience as a whole is great.

We had an exceptional dinner experience, the meal and service were just fantastic and we were really well looked after by Pravin. As someone who grew up in India, the food at Mathura brings back great childhood memories. Another jewel in Chef Atul’s crown! I am sure its only a matter of time before Mathura will get a Michelin star!!

Starter of saffron fish was tasty. My chicken was great. Only came with salad 😔. Never known that b 4.service was great as waiter explained dishes with great care. Saffron shrikhand!!!really. 😔not good at all, expected more from Atul Kochar.

Wonderful staff, a warm and comforting ambience, and a selection of food with impossibly perfect texture - from the crunchy sev puri like amuse-bouche to the perfectly soft and fulfilling paneer kofta and buttery caramelised onion kulcha. I loved Mathura, and I'm generally far too critical of Indian food joints outside of the country, having eaten the "real" thing at home. I'll be coming back for more soon!

Food and service both excellent.

The service was perfect. The ambience was good, I really enjoyed the evening. You should try the sea bass as starter and the black beans Dahl as a side. Surprisingly the side was the start of the meal. They had cool cocktails too.

All the courses were unique in their flavourings. Excellent service. We were on a lunch offer menu, so the price was fine.

Great food and fantastic service! We turned up with only 24 hours as a very large group and we were accommodated really well. Would love to go back and experience the full, spontaneous menu experience.

Three tiny pieces of lamb with one carrot and a pickle served pretty cold for a £30.00 worth of a main course. Very overpriced. Not much of a flavour either. Had to order some sauce additionally, which arrived when I was almost finished. No one bothered to clear the table or offer a desert menu, had to ask for it, but the waiter never brought it. So I just paid my bill and left. Definitely not going back.

Went to celebrate a birthday. Lovely deco and staff were friendly. Unfortunately the taster menu wasn't all that. The veg option had every meal with paneer and the meat option was all chicken! Surely there should be some variety?The chaat base didn't taste that fresh and the masala tea came late and wasn't what I would class as masala tea at all. All in all was average. I wanted to trythis restaurant but wouldn't hurry going back. Am going to try Essence in orpington, hopefully that will be better...fingers crossed!

Beautiful grade 2 listed building which has been converted from an old fire station to a tasteful mix of east meets west. The fireman’s pole and old doors are a wonderful touch. Service is excellent and staff knowledgeable on menu and wines. Food beautifully presented in a relaxed atmosphere and all round hood value. We had 2 course set menu with a couple no of sides and were more than satisfied. Having been to Benares I am equally impressed lwith food and service. It’s a wonderful find tucked away off Victoria street.

Excellent food, amazing staff n service, overall ambience was nice… If you are a foodie and want a trusted place to dine then Mathura restaurant is your Go to! Not only the staff but the Chef also make sure that your whole experience is worth it! The entire Menu is interesting…. Mushroom truffle and Lucknow chaat are the two dishes i would highly recommend ! 10/10 for me!

Nice set meal 'hot dinners' menu 3 course including bottle of wine and welcome cocktail. Service was a little slow, but food was excellent.

We had the veg 3 course tasting menu. Overall the service was very good. However the quality of the food was far below most Indian restaurants in London, let alone at this price range. We didn't finish a couple of the dishes because they tasted so bad.

Went for Valentine’s Day set menu, a good taste of flavour on every dish, staff service was impeccable. Bottle of wine on the restaurant complimentary from the Chef, would definitely revisit.

Visited this restaurant for dinner on a Saturday.So to start some basic training on service is required , specially a restaurant with such high prices ( I have been to several in par Indian restaurants in London) . On arrival no asking if need to put coats away ( I couldn't really hang my long winter coat back of chair seat ??!?) . Cocktails are served in a marble , ceramic, some stoneware glass not a finesse experience imo , where the taste did not meet the description. Starters are ok, the Persian veg and non veg platters, but that's where the one star goes.Main course was served soon after starter no gap and goodness me why would you serve curry dish in flat dishes, with sauce tricky to scoop out. Butter chicken was too sweet, paneer kadhai okish, some raw spices were sprinkled over, side dishes nothing too impressive. Dessert don't bother, ours was not defrosted..fully. the way the textuere was...other than this customers dirty plates left on till so as you walk to the ladies downstairs they were in plain sight not pleasant. A lot of improvement is needed, will I visit anytime soon, may be ,......not!too pricey for what it is!!!

We had dinner fo five people at this new restaurant from a chef whose recipe books I have followed Tge starters were excellent -tge chair sublime ,the chicken tikka our different bit moist and the truffle morels spicy and earthy. We had rogan josh and the coconut fish curry which came in soup bowls filled to the brim There were no seierare plates to decant the main courses to mix with the rice or nans so you had to add it to the sea of sauce or eat with your hands Service was not good -extra nans never arrived ,incorrect price on the dessert wine -we asked for a bottle -got a glass and then was told the £18 price tag of the bottle should have said £68 ...two desserts of the apple and ice cream arrived when we asked for one to share We were given the chefs table but it offered nothing extra other than a half frosted window into the ovens in the kitchens It’s early days I am sure -it was one of the waiters first day and he couldn’t tell us if there was any lassi on the menu and never returned to tell us either way The food itself was good -the rogan Josh meltingly tender,fish curry delicate and spicy and the cocktails ,when they came an eclectic mix of spices and blends . The lamb biryani was a little uninspiring Good to see people back in restaurants again and hopefully the restaurant sector will survive

After seeing for ourselves the scale and grandeur of double Michelin Chef Atul Kochhar’s ambitious new restaurant, Mathura, we finally understood why it’s taken as long as it has to come to fruition. Located in the old Grade-II listed Westminster Fire Station on Greycoat Place, this huge 120-cover venue is a memorable one, with a good portion of the original features therein being incorporated into the current design. From the brass fire pole located in the main dining hall, to the iconic heritage-listed tiles from when the station was built in 1906, this venue also boasts four distinct dining rooms. As you can imagine, we were expecting big things from a restaurant as magnificent as Mathura; and we weren't left disappointed. As per usual, some of the dishes we had the pleasure of trying at The Chef's Table didn't just have Atul's mastery of spices indelibly stamped all over them, but will live long in the memory. It probably also goes without saying that some may again be shortlisted for this year's #FtLionAwards taking place throughout all of next month. It should also be noted that the restaurant does charge a 12.5% service charge.

Unfortunately not to everyone’s liking. I struggle to understand why chefs move away from authenticity of flavours to their own unique ways which is sweet and watery dishes… staff also require further training. To constantly call them over for service and question them about the dishes is mind boggling.

The Pappadum selection is a good mix and comes along with some fresh home made sauces. I always say if the restaurant is making their own sauces this is a great start. We mainly had the vegetarian items so I look forward to being invited again so I can try the main meat courses and bring you another review. It was a pleasure to bump into Tina again this time and this is going to be another of Atul Kochhar success. We had a limited menu during the soft opening but it was not lacking in choice and there are tasting menus now on offer so I look forward to going again for this. We started with the Hindukush Nadru Tikki (Lotus stem and walnut tikki, lotus seed, lotus crisp, lotus puree) which was fresh and nutty and highly recommended followed by Mathura ki Chaat which was both tangy and aromatic and shows sign of great inspiration and freshly sourced ingredients. The one item from the Kanishka menu I wanted to try here was the Atul‘s Murgh Tikka Pie, which brought back great memories of Kanishka and happy to see the same flavour profile followed through with the flaky pastry and spicy filling along with a great tangy home made tomato sauce…. We then had a selection of Vegetarian side dishes as below: Mathura Signature Dal Bukhara - These Black lentils were creamy and best I have had and you have to order this if you are going. Dum Olav - Potatoes nice fresh flavour Pindi Chole - Chickpeas excellent dish with a bit of a spicy kick to it but very complimentary to other items. The portions sizes for us were good but we are not big eaters and enough for three of us. We followed up by selecting the following desserts which i must say were amazing to look at and taste and we could not finish all three but still glad we had a chance to eat them all. Tarte- Apple and pear tarte, cardamom and mascarpone ice cream or vegan vanilla bean ice cream, ginger vanilla sauce - This was a very light and refreshing option. Chocolate - Dark chocolate and orange cannoli, walnut ganache, caramel, baked cream - A mix of chocolate flavours with a really sweet cannoli crispy shell and amazing toffee sauce. Coconut - Coconut and lemon grass parfait, barfi, pineapple raita, sundried pineapple, batasha - I am no real fan of coconut but this was light in flavour and also went down really well. Really great food with such different flavour profiles to each dish and service was immaculate.

The staff are friendly and welcoming. I feel the superhit was Kumror chokka among the vegetarian and fish dishes. The dessert was better at Kanishka. Unfortunately I can't comment on the meat dishes as I had to give them a miss as there was no Non -Halal option. Come on Mathura it time to grow up and offer people the choice.

First time visiting this beautiful restaurant which is just around the corner from us and what an amazing experience it was! Food is perfect and so are the staff ! Went there with the little ones and everyone was super friendly and helpful we had a great time thank you! Will definitely see you soon 😊

The starters are amazing, the desserts are nice the main is why I am giving 4 stars instead of 5. I had the beef meatballs and it was very average. The chicken tikka starter is out of this world! I would also recommend the bread basket.

Quite the best fine dining Indian and SE Asian I've been to for a while. Everything was interesting, innovative and cooked to perfection. The dessert I had was just about the best dessert I have ever had.

Unfortunately, a very underwhelming experience from the menu to the service. The quality was nowhere near the standard that I would have expected given the prices, every other upmarket Indian restaurant I have been to has been better. I can’t help but think this has not been done for the love of food… It’s a shame as I live close but will not be coming back.

I've been to several upmarket indian restaurant and i was looking forward to trying this new restaurant. Unfortunately i missed the wow factor and i have found the food overpriced (with the 50% off it was obviously ok). I would have preferred less discount but a more interesting menu. This was to me a missed opportunity for Mathura.. I doubt i will come back :-(

Went on the opening evening and the location and decor is a perfect set up. Then came along the drinks, starters and mains and they were perfect, tasty and we'll presented. The added touch was seeing Atul Kochhar in person. What a great man, down to earth and full of aspiration. See you soon. 👍🏼
