Until I received the bill, I had no idea that it was Davy group restaurant because the other places, though charming were so dated and old fashioned. El Vino is the complete opposite. Modern, spacious, with great fresh food in decent portions and reasonable price. Lovely friendly staff. We were in and out there within an hour. We shared the five plat tapas special for £27 (which Enoteca around the corner will get you two plates). Two drinks, Pastel de Nata and coffees for £58 incl tip.

We went for a tapas dinner to El Vino, and regardless of being a busy evening, we had an excellent table service. As a Spaniard, I'm normally disappointed with the Spanish themed food, but I have to say that the mix between Spanish, Portuguese, and South American cuisine, does works here. Having said that, they have to improve some of the dishes, the Patatas Bravas sauce could be a little bit better, and I was surprised of not finding croquetas, or anything with chorizo or black pudding in the tapas menu (but they offer us a special, Paella with chorizo, which is not very Spanish) Overall, we felt very welcomed, the food came promptly, so we had a very nice time there, it would be better if they increase the quantities of the tapas as well, but it is a nice place for a bite, or a dinner after work.

First of all, the bouncer kept entering the ladies toilets which made me very uncomfortable. We then had to wait over 45 minutes to get a drink when the bar wasn’t even very busy... to then realise they had given us the wrong drinks. The waitress then accused me of not paying my bill. I expressed my disappointment to the manager who then got very defensive and aggressive. I decided to leave the bar after the worst night I’ve experienced and he decided to follow me out of the bar to continue arguing with me.

Don't over look this trendy bar near a very good old ale pub. This place even has a couple of ales on tap. The place does have music but is not too loud and nice very comfy seats make for a chilled and relaxed atmosphere. Good staff behind bar and relaxed vibe. If in the area and visiting the various classic old pubs then stop by. Yes city people will occupy the evenings late in the week but still viable.

I had requested a quiet table and I was pleased to be led to a nook with bench seating in the round with a high back. The table and seating was spacious and perfectly adequate for our purposes of a business style lunch for 4, with plenty of discussion which was perfectly audible, although the restaurant was not excessively busy. We ordered only one course with drinks and coffee to end. The food was perfectly fine, we did not order wine. The coffee was good. The décor and ambience is smart yet relaxed and somewhat calming. I've been going to C&B Mason's Ave for 8 years now and have to say that it's deteriorated massively.

The service was patchy at best (depending on who was serving) while the food was below par for the cost. Ordering the chorizo scoth eggs i was expecting for something lovely and flavoursome. What we got was just bland. Maybe they'd run out of chorizo?

The fish and chips were just about ok but having ordered 3 flavours of ice cream I was given just 2, one flavour of which I wasn't offered and didn't order. No explanation given though when i mentioned it was offered a replacement. Espresso was also disappointing, very weak.

I know the C & B on Mason's Avenue well and am a regular but it does frustrate me that such a great spot can be so average. The service is exactly that, it takes forever to get a drink (especially at the bar – there you can wait up to 10 minutes even when there doesn't seem to be a queue). The food was also rather average for what is a good menu. It won't stop me going there but I wish the service, particularly at the bar, was improved.

We went to C&B Masons Avenue as a group of 10 for a work lunch on a Friday. We sat downstairs in the private area which was nice. The service was quite good & friendly, the quality of the mains were very good, with a decent variety of mains. The only complain I'd have was the dessert menu was one of the poorest I've seen at a pub for a while - there were only 2 options plus a cheese platter. And the three people in the group who did order desserts didn't finish them as they weren't very good! But if you don't have a sweet tooth, definitely recommend it.

I booked this restaurant as Toptable said that it was doing a Christmas menu - i.e. turkey etc. We had my 80yr old mother in law with us who has a very limited diet & she wanted a Christmas dinner - there were no qualifying conditions on this on toptable- but just to make doubly sure I put it in the notes section. I arrived early and was presented with a normal menu - when I said I wanted the Christmas menu I was advised that this would have had to have been ordered in advance & a deposit paid - I explained that I had booked through toptable & this want requested - this was to no avail. When my mother in law arrived she had to pick something else - which she didnt really eat. The staff were nice but it was overall a disappointing experience

My friend and I came for lunch off the back of an offer I was emailed for a free glass of bubbly with your main. When we presented the waitress with the voucher, after checking with her manager, were told it was only valid at Paternoster Square branch. Fair enough - we made a mistake, however we politely asked if they could honour this offer seeing as it's the same chain. The manager, via our waitress refused to honour this request. Already disappointed and we hadn't even ordered our food, we then had to ask twice for our jug of water, struggled to get attention from the waitresses to get extra tomato ketchup and were told they didn't have tartare sauce to go with the fish and chips. Disappointing experience - not in a hurry to go back.

Lunch for 2 booked at the refurbished Corney & Barrow in Masons Avenue was a disappointment. Very average food that isn't really reflected in the prices. Despite booking via Toptable and advising the waitress that it was a booking we were told to take any table that was unreserved so my booking wasn't recorded with TT. Smoked haddock fishcakes contained 99% potato and barely a flake of fish! My colleagues mussels, although a large portion, were bland. This bar is looking good after the refit and is nice for a drink after work (2 for 1 cocktails on a Wednesday night), but I wouldn't return for the food again.

Not crazy-busy, the food was spot-on (the perfect burger, not a hint of horse!!) and the service could not be faulted, attentive without being in your face and even giving us the 2for1 main course offer despite not having the voucher. After that, everything was fine, the food was scrumptious (fish and chips and the pork belly particularly so). They had run out of the two of the three deserts which was a shame but maybe a blessing, Not a part of time we eat in normally, but the location is great - down a small court near Guildhall

I arranged a breakfast meeting with a client for the 5h December 2012. Upon arrival we were seated and asked for our drinks order. We were awaiting one more diner who was running 30 mins late. When he arrived they took his drinks order and then our food order. 30 secs later the waitress came back and said they had no gas and the only food they could offer was a bacon sandwich. Due to the time we had we were unable to go anywhere else. It was most infuriating that we had sat there for over 40 mins before they told us the gas was not working. There was not a single appology for this and they also automatically put their service charge on.
I hope this was a one off but I'd suggest asking straight away if they have any kitchen issues that day.

I was a bit hesitant to visit C&B after the recent makeover as many refurbishments of City classics recently have gone horribly wrong (Balls Brothers, etc). I decided it was best to go for lunch with an open mind and pretend this was a brand new venue without Corney and Barrow's venerable history. Henry’s closed about a month ago as the tenants, Stonegate pub co, decided to let it go due to a rent hike by the owners. I’ve submitted this to Google but they haven’t amended this to closed yet - so I’m writing this review to try save people from getting there expecting it to be open as I witnessed recently. There is a planning application on the front door for its next usage - see photo.
