Masala Grill in Havering

Family meal out and everyone loved it. Good was cooked really well. Just the right amount of heat in the dansak. Drinks very reasonably priced. And with the tastecard it is a real bargain. Place was packed so they are doing something right!

Had the most incredible meal last night. We were a table of 6 and every single dish was absolutely gorgeous! My favourites were the chana masala, pakora, banjo’s, tandori chicken. We also had butter chicken, korma, Bhuna, murg masala garlic naan and more. Everything was delicious

My brothers, my dad and I visited this curry house in December. Having tried the majority of the curry houses in Upminster and slowly making our way through the remainders, we visited Masala Grill and we wished we never bothered. Not all curry houses are the same, some being better than others, but at the very least you expect to have had a meal and an experience of going out to a restaurant. There was no warm welcome, surprising considering there was only one other table of people inside. We sat down and tried to not to judge too quickly from the stale popadoms. Then ordered our mains, which come over to our table within the next 5 - 7 minutes. This was nothing more than a ready meal - tasteless dishes that were imho worse than a count on us ready meal from M&S. Finally, we were greeted with the bill for this pleasurable evening - which was an extortionate amount for the service and level of food we had received, especially compared to other (much better) local curry houses. I never write a review but this was such a disappointment and horrendous experience I felt that it was only right to warn others. This may have been a one-off, but i certainly wont be going back to test this theory.

I ordered food via just eat unfortunately the butter chicken was toooo sweet, the sag paneer had soil (I think they wouldn't have washed spinach properly ) The Gobi was ok Egg fried rice was like pulav rice not all like fired rice Over all very much disappointed

Pre booked . On arrival the man behind the bar just pointed to a table when we walked in..didn’t even speak ! We ordered drinks while looking at the menu & these seemed to take ages to arrive. The man behind the bar was talking on the phone taking orders not making the drinks that’s why they were taking so long to arrive ! We ordered our our food from a waiter who looked like he wished he was somewhere else, not serving us.. No customer service or social skills .. The food arrived as did the hot plates. The mixed grill was a tad burnt , but tasty. The food was all very nice. We felt like the place just lacked any atmosphere.

My wife and I do a monthly curry night. We have tried many Indian restaurants. Now we won’t eat at any other Indian restaurant. The staff are friendly. The food is always excellent. Easily the best Indian in Essex.

Still the best Indian restaurant in Upminster.

The first time I visited Masala grill for dinner was as a group of four people. The food and the service were both good. The waiter was friendly and efficient. The restaurant tables were not on top of each other like some other restaurants I have visited. We have visited here several times since the first time and my opinion has changed. How friendly the waiters are depends on who serves you and the bill always seems to be more expensive than expected, especially as the drinks are not broken down. With waiters who are not that friendly, there doesn't seem to be much of an atmosphere so I don't think that we will return unfortunately as there are better places locally.

I’ve been to the Masala Grill a few times and it’s one of those hit or miss places. The service will vary on the mood the waiter is in on the day. The food is fairly good and the menu is what you’d expect from an Indian. In turn to the service the ambience will vary depending on the mood the staff are in. Recently we received a frosty reception the restaurant was empty. It didn’t improve during the meal. Upminster is saturated with places to eat and there are a number of Indian restaurants in the town. So if one is busy, there is a reason for it! Anyway the bill came and it seemed very expensive for our small party of three. At least the curry was ok. Next time I’d have a take away and enjoy my own ambience

Me and the wife fancied a cheap date night so I suggested we go here as I have a Taste Card that gives 50% off the food. Arrived at 7pm (Friday night), seated. There was about five other occupied tables. Received drinks quickly. Ordered a King Prawn Pathia. Prawns were very good. Quiet large. Fish was sweet and sour cooked well. Wife had a similar lamb dish which had lentils in it. I had some of hers. Taste very good. The lamb quality if I compare it to Ginger Lounge up the road was not as good, but still decent. Both dishes come with pilar rice which was cooked well. Saag potato dish and a coconut filled bread cooked very well. Had one non alcoholic beer. One coke. Overall came in at £32 with the taste card (£20 knocked off the bill) Can’t complain. I see some negative reviews on here. I can imagine when they are mega busy standards might possibly drop but I’m just guessing. Would I go back? Yes for a cheap night out.

Is an OK place to go service unfortunately was better than the food.

Not a great night. 3rd time coming here and this being the worst and last. Sick after leaving and both me and my wife are struggling this morning. Another thing to add went on Thursday (50% off food) to get the receipt without had to remind waiter the deal and went back and changed it.

Masala grill serves pretty standard "British" Indian food but does it very well. You will find the usual selection of vindaloo, korma and some less usual currys such as Cylon. The currys can be quite hot but are all tasty. Wine and beer selection is adequate.

Food is always amazing. Great flavours better than anywhere we have experienced. Never disappointed.

The shape of the eating place is appropriate

Arrived, seated quickly and drinks were brought quickly. All was good. Order a mix of normal and spicy poppadoms. Clearly the spicy ones were out of a packet as weren't properly cooked. Asked if a dish came with sauce, told yes. It came on on a skillet with no sauce, and then dumped next to me to serve up myself, unlike any other restaurant which would dish up from a burning skillet. Had asked how many onion bharji in a portion, told there, but two turned up. Had to order another portion. Naan breads were like cardboard. Chicken was over cooked and all dishes were mediocre. I genuinely don't understand why this restaurant is rated so highly. The staff are friendly, but the service is poor, the food quality is well below par. And there are so many beeter Indian restaurants in Upminster.

This restaurant advertises that it is in the dine in scheme, saying in the dine in website that it offers 50 percent off food 7 days a week upto 4 people. Which is why we choose to visit. However when we went to pay and use our dine in card they said no we don’t take that. That’s old. I queried this with dine in, who said that the restaurant had not informed them that they were no longer accepting the card. And should have accepted it. The food was ok, not anything to write about, fairly expensive very noisy, so would not go back again.

Menu price on their website needs updating, completely different price and when asking they say ohh its an old price!!! Well update it then. It’s been like this for around 2 years and i have mentioned this to them before. I hate when a company shows a price but charges you different and then say ohh its an old menu. Management update your website price! Food is pretty good though most of the times and service is fast. Havnt had any problems their to be honest.

Personally my favourite Indian restaurant in Havering! The service is brilliant and the food is even better! Sunday and Wednesday have great offers on too! I'd recommend the Lamb Chops or the Mixed Grill as these are out of this world!

Visited New year's eve with my family. Very disappointed from the start. We was rushed straight away for drinks and poppadoms and we still had our coats on... Five of us ordered our meals and sent 3 back for being over salty.. The rice, side dishes and breads were ok... We've eaten there numerous times and won't be going back... Also the waiter was clearing our table whilst my daughter was still eating.....

Went to this restaurant as they take taste card. Starters and food OK but drink was expensive. Waiter who took our order not very friendly. Popadoms were shop bought and not good. Ordered sweets was told none available only lassey. Had not visited restaurant for a while but will not return lots of other curry houses in area to visit.

First of all the poppadum's were very disappointing as they tasted like they came out of a ready made shop bought packet, they were not fresh. The main dishes were fine as well as the sides, the nan bread was very thin. I had a cheesy Nan this was very thin and split as soon as you picked it up. We then ordered deserts which we asked for ice-cream and a banana split and after 10 minutes was informed that there was no ice cream or deserts available at all. Drinks were also expensive and although we had a taste card to help us with the bill, the evening worked out to be very expensive and disappointing, we will not be returning to this restaurant in the near future. Overall service was ok but the waiter who took our order was very unfriendly, and both coffees were cold that replaced our sweets at the end of the evening.

Delicious food, all around! We ordered eight dishes and all eight were phenomenal. The waitstaff was kind, funny, and attentive. Lovely hot towels at the end and a chocolate made the dinner special. Thank you for a great meal!!

Been coming here for over ten years and the management have been great, very attentive and food is always great. The taste card makes this a no brainier with 50% off the food bill. Highly recommend this place. Lamb chops, starter platters are great. The butter chicken the kids love.

Collected our first meal from here today. Top quality ingredients and the tastes were exceptional. We had two chicken tikka main course and a chicken madras. The main course we cooked perfectly and had a lovely smokey taste. The madras was exactly how I like it, nice and spicy but not to hot.

Lovely food and good quick service, would recomend and go back.

Outstanding…. A lamb chop curry like I’ve never had before (and I have had a few). Excellent friendly service, fantastic food and very good cost 👍🏽 I don’t think I would ever use another Indian restaurant in Upminster again now that I’ve experienced Masala Grill. Nothing compares.

Tried a lot of Indian restaurants in Upminster, this one was on the list. I had a Garlic Chicken dish - i would avoid, taste was bland, my wife opted for a Khari again seemed to taste the same sauce, mine just had lots of Garlic in it. Would not go back, but i am fussy about Indian food.

Superb food, always good quality. The service is excellent, the owner is always there to make sure you have a good meal. Definitely recommend this place.

Got to praise the staff and management for the standards they regularly keep and the quality of the food. I cant believe the last review left was so negative and suspect it was sour grapes rather than a genuine review. I have always found them pleasant and welcoming and always enjoyed the food there and such good VFM. We are blessed in Upminster to have so many quality restaurants inc Masala Grill.

Had a meal delivered for our family £60, we had 5 different dishes and each one had tough chicken in really big chunks, not much of the chicken filled up with potatoes instead. The chicken was dry and chewy. When we called the restaurant they said the chef was off and a second chef in place and had the phone put down on me. Food was so substandard. Not good enough. Tried to call but number is not recognised???

Amazing food! Best Indian I've had in a long time....service great didn't have to wait too long for food...there was 6 of us that thoroughly enjoyed it...would definitely go again.

First time coming to this Indian tonight, and I have to say the food is outstanding, the portions and flavour are incredible, defiantly one the best Indian restaurants I've been too, the staff are very polite and friendly, if I could give 10 stars I would, thank you so much again I had a lovely evening :)

First visit in ages due to lockdown and new baby but so glad we got a baby sitter and treated ourselves. The food is first class and everything tastes fresh, thoroughly recommended.

I visited with my partner and son. It was my partner's birthday and they pulled out all of the stops in a Covid safe way. The food was very nice, staff were lovely & efficient, and the premises was well presented and clean. Although we didn't opt for it this time, we noticed a good 3 course deal in the week, which may help to keep the price down.

Pre booked, the place wasn’t that busy for a Friday evening. Service was good, ordered mains which came up all very tasty, unfortunately the restaurant just lacked atmosphere, it was like you was in a cafe. Without the burgers ! Visited here last night and received a nice friendly welcome as usual,was lucky really as i got a call during the day to ask if i was still going the following day,luckily the table was ready for us and the foot was great nice buzzy...

Took my wife here for her birthday the place was shocking 2 Meter distance was a joke I had people all around me coughing and sneezing we felt really uncomfortable and when the food turned up it was cold the cutlery was dirty we complained paid the bill and left would not recommend this place to my worst enemy avoided at all costs

Every day i walk past and see that it is busy and thought tonight is the night that i try it with my family instead of other curry houses in Upminster. It was very average and a little disappointing if I am honest. Won't go back and will stick with kush, village and spice of India in Cranham!

Best Indian in Essex! the food is always spot on. I love how a well established place are not shy on offering good deals like there involved in the eat out government scheme, but when that finishes, their taste card 50% off whole menu is blinding! Makes it really good value. Also the staff is brilliant not to mention the manager.

First time visiting here. Dined in for two.. absolute top quality food and lovely staff. Will be returning!

Popped in here with a couple of colleagues- waiter pointed us to the dinner offer on the back- starter, main course and side for £12.95. Lovely tasty food, not overly spiced o too much colouring. Great value and food.
