The restaurant is nice and cozy. I was there yesterday and today because it was really sweet and clean. I took pancakes and coffee and ordered pizza. After everything, it was really nice and clean.

We had a good experience here, the food was really good and the people are nice. We ordered the vegetetarian breakfast and the french toast, it was really delicious! You can also sit outside in the garden.

The waitress is very attentive, the place is nice with an interior patio but the food is not quality: dry salmon, frozen potatoes, sliced ​​bread, third-rate ketchup, flavorless soup

Great place for early risers. Try the nice oat bowl that comes with yogurt, bananas, strawberries, nuts and honey.

Be warned, this restaurant is operated by a foreigner who has not been trained in Scottish or English cuisine. We saw “Fish and chips” on the menu and a garden to eat it, so we decided to try it. The garden was nice, but the fish and chips were horrible! The server confirmed it was frozen breaded fish that was thawed and fried. Scottish or English “Fish and Chips” is NEVER frozen and coated in breadcrumbs. It is supposed to be batter dipped fresh fish! The other dish was an entre salad with smoked salmon. You can see the size was extremely small-not enough for a meal. Don’t waste your money here until the chef is better trained and the operator is willing to give people the expected food they paid for

I visited Mary's Cafe Bistro on 5/9/24. I had 2 others with me and we placed our order which was eggs benedict, Mary's special and smoked salad and teax2 1 iced latte. We waited a long time and during that they brought our tea out. As it was so long my tea had gone cold and I asked for it to be refreshed as it wasn't my fault it had gone cold as they served it even before we got our food, and we didn't state that. I was then given fresh tea and to my surprise when I looked at the receipt today I was shocked that they had charged me for the refreshed tea. Any good establishment would not charge you for a replacement of cold tea which was through no fault of your own. I do not think this was very good customer service.

Literally LOVED it! Staff was super nice to us, plus the food is amazing. Not only it was seriously good but it has also a lot of vegan and vegetarian dishes so that everybody can eat. Prices are honest for the big portions and food quality. We've eaten three different breakfasts (mediterranean, full scottish and vegetarian, that's also in the picture) and taken two slices of cake (red velvet and marlenka, both so good!). Highly recommended 🩵

The main courses were really good, but the chocolate cake was stale and made using ready mix. Cute little place with a decent selection of warm drinks and a bar.

Nipped in for a breakfast roll. Usually when you ask for an extra filling you get one. We got double. Added bonus the roll was hot on arrival. Big pit of tea and apple juice served in a large jar. Spot on friendly service. Highly recommend

The courtyard in the back is very charming. The food was surprisingly good considering my wife and I were hungry and just randomly picked this one since it had a decent rating.

Amazing food, we ordered the full Scottish Breakfast, and the pancakes which were fluffy and sweet, and the breakfast delicious. The service is super nice and the terrace is quiet and beautiful. It's an incredible place located close enough to the royal mile but far from the crowd. I cannot recommend this enough.

Came for a weekday brunch and it was not busy at all! They have all day breakfast and many alcoholic beverages available. Got a poached egg dish with a latte. They tasted good and service was pretty quick too. Free wifi too was quick and easy to connect to.

Much appreciated home cooking. And above all, finally a restaurant that offers Scottish lamb. We see sheep in the fields and few restaurants have them on the menu (other than kebabs). Very good lamb chops, like moussaka. Candy pink interior. It feels more like you're entering a tea room than a restaurant.

A regular breakfast spot for us when in Edinburgh. Oat Bowl, omelettes are favorites. To be honest, every breakfast has been delicious.

Lovely cafe-restaurant. Good portions, nicely presented. Chicken skewers were fab, as was the Greek Selection. Tea in a proper teapot too! The garden was clean and quirky.

This spot is unassuming but did a great job! The food was excellent, portions were large and the service was very efficient. The menu was also quite extensive so there is plenty to choose from.

We’ve literally just left and I’ve had to come on and leave a review. We tried to go to Em’s Kitchen a few doors away and the chap there was a bit rude so we left and came here. I had a breakfast with Hallumi cheese. It was so delicious. The place is so comfortable and the people are friendly. I had red thé review here and I was not sure about it, but I’m so happy that I tried it. It was great. It open during the Boxing Day :)

Great Scottish breakfast and fantastic morning breakfast rolls. I had bacon and mushroom - lots of perfectly cooked bacon in a fresh roll. Sausage and egg roll also looked tasty. Service was great - felt welcomed and well looked after. Lovely atmosphere, just off Royal Mile. Good choice of breakfast options.

Very warm and friendly service. The carrot cake was probably the best I have ever had and I’ve had my fair share. The smoothies were wonderful as well. We will be back when we visit again.

Arrived and sat down, given a menu without a word said to me from the waitress and then ignored for 20 minutes. 4 other people walked in within this time and were quickly served drinks and food. Won’t bother again.

I had the Scottish breakfast and my partner ordered soup and the steak pie. The breakfast was extremely poor quality and reminiscent of a little chef - pretty expensive for the price. Soup was watery and the steak pie was clearly cooked from frozen. I’m uncertain how there are so many positive reviews. I’d avoid this place.

Excellent coffee and scones, friendly staff and a pleasant atmosphere made this our daily early morning stop while visiting Edinburgh. Comfortable patio out back was a nice option. Great place to start the day, or for anytime you need great coffee and a comfortable place to rest.

Came for breakfast for which the standard of coffee is most important for me!! Coffee was really great....oat milk flat white....perfect! I just wanted a croissant and hubby wanted full Scottish. Croissant would have benefitted from heating up in the oven to make it crispy rather than a bit on the soggy side but the full Scottish was very good. Good sized portion, well cooked and no pricier than anywhere else we looked. Staff very friendly and helpful.

L’endroit est joli mais le service est déplorable. Ignorés pendant 30 minutes, puis commande passée pour un thé qui n’est jamais arrivé. Quand nous avons fait la demande au serveur 30 minutes plus tard en lui disant que si ce n’était pas lancé, nous préférions partir, il s’est empressé d’aller lancer la commande. Pourtant l’endroit n’était pas plein.

If I could of give this place a 0 star rating I would of because from the lack of service to the freezer shop food this place should not believe they have the right to be charging such high prices. Would never return not even if it was last on earth. Very disappointed.

Friendly restaurant close to the royal mile. We went in lured by the offer of the lamb Moussaka, but unfortunately it was off the menu. We had very tasty pizza instead. We would be happy to eat here again.

Arrived for pre theatre meal. The menus looked varied although slightly pricey. Ordered the Meze and Mossaka although the latter wasn’t available so opted for lamb kebab. Staff were very attentive and the food arrived in good time. Unfortunately the kebab and chips was fairly basic and not worth the £16 and the Meze looks as if it was purchased from a local supermarket.

Lovely cafe with outdoor seating. Called for breakfast on our first day in Edinburgh. Everything especially cooked, so a bit of a wait but well worth it. Choice of drinks, plus teas and coffees. My tea came in a teapot with at least 3 cups of tea from it, very few cafes do this now, so very pleased.We had a Scottish breakfast on the first morning visit., wow, it was amazing .The interior of the cafe is traditional, clean and bright. The staff are so helpful and nice.We decided we would have our breakfasts and evening meals here for out short stay, and so please we did. There are a great deal of food premises to have something to eat and drink, but Marys was delightful. Highly recommended

Ein nettes Café, das Zentral ist, aber dennoch eine ruhige Lage hat. Zusätzlich gibt es einen gemütlichen Außenbereich. Wir waren zweimal da und der Kuchen war beide Male fantastisch. Ich habe 3 verschiedene Kuchen probiert und der Karrotenkuchen war definitiv der beste. Die Bedienung war auch sehr freundlich. Für 2 Apfelsaft, 2 Kuchen und einen Kaffee haben wir 23£ bezahlt.

DONT EAT THE SALMON 😬☹️☹️ I may be the only one who’s ever ordered it… but it gave me food poisoning 😔 we were pleased with the food and service when we were there but I did think the salmon was a bit orangey… I think it’s maybe cooked from frozen which you shouldn’t do with salmon. So it’s a shame. Also the cafe doesn’t have a hygiene rating and the cafe that was there before had a rating of ‘needs improvement’ so 👀

I arrived soon after they opened, and before the tourist crowd piled on the streets. I ordered a simple ham and cheese panini with cafe latte. The panini and coffee were served hot. Which is exactly how I like my food served. The panini was large enough for two people to share. I took my other half and had it for lunch later in the day. There is a nice outdoor seating area in the back of the restaurant. This is a no frills restaurant with pleasant service.

We ate breakfast Marys cafe several times during our stay. In walking distance to our hotel. Tasty food,wide choice. Excellent friendly service, lovely atmosphere.

we ordered a french toast, turkish beef and cold meze, with drinks. The price was 51 pound so it was expensive. the waiter was turkish lady and she was helpful and friendly.

Really not sure how this place has such rave reviews. From the outside looks like a lovely quaint ye olde Scottish cafe. Inside its pretty much a Turkish kebab house with a pink interior. Food was clearly frozen packaged meals (I could have bought my steak pie from Iceland myself!). Grilled lamb chops were crucified and black leaving no taste apart from charcoal. Awful food for such a price.

Great cafe in the Edinburgh Old Town. Have eaten here twice now and haven't been disappointed. They do a great Scottish breakfast with everything cooked to perfection. Nice outside seating area if weather permits. Would highly recommend if you are in the old town area.

Food wasn’t good. Avocados were not mature, we waited 30 min for coffee and 45 for food. Not very friendly staff. Rest of the food is basic, no interest. And too fatty.
