Absolutely phenomenal. The food was so good that I forgot to take any pictures, despite the gorgeous presentation. It's very authentic, and the staff are lovely. It's now one of my favorite restaurants in Edinburgh. The ambiance is also cozy and great for a low key date night

I would give more than 5 stars if I could. We had a lovely Sunday lunch. The food was divine, from starters to desserts everything full of flavours. The place is so charming and welcoming ❤️ the people are adorable. We'll come back for sure.

Absolutely gorgeous food. Exciting and inspiring dishes of authentic Greek cuisine. Expect smaller mezze-type platters that are great to share. Equally charming as the food was the heartwarmingly lovely service. Rarely felt so welcome and at ease at a restaurant. If you are in the mood for Mediterranean food, I there say there is no better place to go in the Edinburgh area. Must-visit in Leith

A gem. Family atmosphere and cuisine. We asked to bring some tastings to get an idea of ​​a cuisine we weren't familiar with. All delicious! Even the restaurant, furnished with simple but good taste, without falling into stereotypes. Absolutely recommended.

Best Greek Food I had in Edinburgh. You should definitely spend your Sunday afternoon having the tastiest dishes. We had the mix grill for 2 (more than enough) which they serve with homemade chips and the best homemade pita bread 🤤 Greek Salad, feta me sousami and honey and mushrooms were to die for 🫠 Such a friendly and attentive service they really made us feel like home. Thank you so much for made our day.

Homemade and very good food Family treatment

One of the best places I know for Greek food - regardless of whether it's in Greece or not! If you want proper authentic Greek food, this is the place for you! The music is also brilliant and the staff are incredibly friendly. This is genuinely like stepping into a small piece of Greece in Leith!

We are so blessed to have this fantastic restaurant on our doorstep. Every dish is made with fresh ingredients, the utmost skill and of course with love. I wasn’t overly familiar with Cretan cuisine, but now I am utterly hooked! My favourite is the Gigantes. It’s funny how there are some dishes that are universally nostalgic and comforting. The whole team are fabulous and so accommodating and friendly; you really feel as though you are dining in a friend’s home. I’d go here for a celebration or just a casual romantic dinner, so great is the hospitality and food. Can’t wait to go again soon.

I have walked past Kafeneion every day for almost a year and only recently went for dinner and I regret not going sooner!! I was absolutely blown away by the quality of the ingredients, the food, the service and the atmosphere. I rarely come across somewhere where I am lost for words with how stunning the experience is. It was so fantastic I have recommended Kafeneion to everyone I know and have been back several times since. You can really sense the heart and soul that goes into each dish and service. I would eat here every day if I could! My favourite restaurant in Edinburgh. Thank you for bringing such a beautiful dining experience to Edinburgh.

Truly authentic Greek food. It’s so good! Wonderful sharing plates, fresh flavours. Wholesome. Homely. The feta phyllo with honey is akin to touching God. Greek wines galore! I could not recommend this place enough.

I expressed that I work at a Greek restaurant back in Canada and she was so lovely to chat with and even taught me a few things. Exceptional food and a beautiful little restaurant. I was introduced to Greek food last summer in northern Greece & fed lots by my partner's Auntie's along with the odd beautiful taverna. Simple flavours cooked perfectly makes this little gem of a restaurant a must. I'll definitely be heading back there.

The best Greek Resturant in town so far. Nice service, great ambient and good food. Those were perfectly paring with the white Retsina on the sunny day. Their homemade ice-cream was good too. Would be back soon. Also, I was quite impress to see that the plates were facedown to avoid the dust. Such a good care.

This is a real hidden gem. Authentic Greek restaurant in Leith with fantastic food. Small plates suitable for sharing, a good mix of meat, fish and veggie options. Great Greek salad too! Oh, and nice wine list and helpful staff to answer any questions. First time there, but will be back.

Had lovely meze in the most friendly, cozy place! Everything was delicious and gave a homemade feeling. The bread was insanely good and the highlight was the strapatsada (Greek version of scrambled eggs with tomato). The staff was extraordinary and very helpful. It is true that you enter as a stranger and leave as a friend. Will definitely visit again!

Having read all the reviews we decided to eat out after two nights eating at motel. Have eaten Greek in a few countries unfortunately this is miss. Which all family agreed. Great ambience and staff super friendly and accommodating. Menu needs to be updated, more protein dishes. Never been to a Greek restaurant with no lamb.

What a great little find thanks to google reviews. Beautiful little place with great food served in the traditional way of “plates”. Every dish was bob on. The octopus was beautifully soft with a barbecued edge. Perfect. The traditional pork and sausage was to die for. The feta pie beautifully seasoned served with a little pot of honey. Very authentic Greek food served with a smile and a giggle. Took us back to our month long Greek islands odyssey and reminded us we still haven’t been to Crete!

What a lovely gem! Went there with a friend after hyping the Greek cuisine to her and reading the reviews (Greeks love their Greek food) and it did not disappoint :) All the platters were delicious and authentic, the Greek music on the background was lovely and Gianna who served us so friendly, helpful and amazing. Can't wait to go back - I just wish I lived closer to it.

Great service and great food (some unusual dishes too). I mistakingly ordered a courgette dish. I don't eat yoghurt but the dish was drizzled with a yoghurt sauce. The sauce was listed on the menu so it was my carelessness. My wife and friends ate the dish (and praised it). I didn't complain but the waitress noticed I was ignoring the dish and arrived at the table with another plateful, yoghurt free. (And no charge.) We'll definitely go back (and I'll read the menu carefully). A stew with pork and sausage was delicious.

Very delicious food we wanted eat something different and this was amazing.

Absolutely phenomenal food, super fresh and the menu isn't too long and overwhelming but still has lots of new things to try. Can highly recommend the fava dip with the fresh bread and the Cretian salad but everything was outstanding. Greek food in the UK is so often disappointing but this place is a real wee gem!

Cooking here is fabulous and such a friendly place. The food is so delicious - love their bean dishes, garlicky beetroot etc! Food is fresh, full of surprises and really feels cooked by someone who just loves cooking.

Came in for a mere coffee, ended having a treat! Lovely greek coffee, with bites of treats and served in a china cup, just like my mom used to serve it when I was a child. Such good memories came up... I'll be back to enjoy my dinner soon. Definitely a wee treasure of Leith!

Great little place! Small menu but genuine and full of real taste. Service is awesome and we overall had a great time. Portions are generous for being mezzes too. I really recommend this place if you like Greek food, it's off the beaten track so it makes it even more special :).

My dad and I had a lovely meal here. Having lived on Crete for over five years, we chose some of our favourite dishes and they were all absolutely wonderful and completely authentic. Dined here alone a couple weeks ago while traveling solo. It had a relaxed cozy environment and was just a couple minutes walk from my Airbnb. Service was amazing. I ordered the lamb liver and prawns. The liver I liked more but you really have to be a liver lover as it doesn’t hide it and is very simply cooked and drizzled in olive oil and lemon. The prawns came in a sauce which were ok.

My sister, my niece and I had a late lunch here on Saturday. The mezes were delicious, the service very friendly and efficient and the atmosphere relaxed. Would definitely recommend. My sister commented "The food tasted as if it was made with love."

We stumbled upon this hidden gem by luck and are so thrilled that we did! We had the most incredible food and friendliest service in a cozy atmosphere. We had the Greek salad, aubergine dip (unreal), feta in phyllo with honey, prawns (I could drink that sauce!!) I even got to relive my honeymoon with a bit of mystiha and lemonade! Plus homemade ice cream (strataciella and almond) with our Greek coffee to finish. Portions were more than generous between the two of us. Food was so fresh and flavorful. We had such authentic food and even lovelier service, I wish I got our server's name. But even the ladies in the kitchen came out to help and chat. We felt like family and were fed like it too. Already planning to come back STAT!

I went for dinner here last night, and it was just incredible. Every dish was so delicious, the wine selection was really good, the service amazing. I'm running out of adjectives, but would definitely recommend checking this place out if you're in the area. The menu changes occasionally apparently, so there's always more to try. Some of the dishes I haven't seen since I was in the Cyclades in Greece last year, and if anything it was even better than the ones I had in Greece. The owners are so lovely too! Just a wonderful experience, and I can't wait to go back.

Fantastic birthday lunch out. Food was incredible - especially the Kafeneion salad and the signature pie. Wonderful atmosphere and lovey staff. Definitely will come back! Also very good with my sister who can’t eat onion and garlic, catered for her sensitivities.
