I’ve been visiting this cafe since the late nineties. It was great value for money. Generous portions and made vegetarian food delicious at a time veggie options were bland in shops and canteens. It’s so popular you have to share tables. The queue to order is long and slow moving. It’s a hidden gem. I’ve seen online they’ve cut back on hot meal options. Undoubtedly they were hit by the pandemic and following cost of living crisis. Looking forward to dropping by later.

I wanted a coffee and something, saw a board in Queen Square (although no directions), then spotted the Mary Ward centre. It looked closed but I thought I'd try the door. Lovely little cafe, great coffee and food, very reasonable price for central London and very helpful staff. I forgot to ask for a black Americano, so it came with milk - they changed it with no question. Toastie was delicious, and all looked very appetising! If I'm round there again, I'll certainly go out of my way to eat there.

I love the food here. I eat there once a week as I work close by. Sometimes queuing takes some time, but the food is worth it. It is cosy basic to sit in, but if you take it out there is a park and some free space outside in the front. I find food tastes even better under a blue sky. If there is a mistake it is always acknowledged and rectified immediately. Considering the quality and portions, this place is inexpensive. will be back next week :-)

Very annoying place! They have fantastic dishes for vegetarians and bad ones for vegans! You need to move on with times and use cheese alternatives in your Italian dishes! The vegan dishes are crap!

This cafe is part of the Mary Ward Centre which provides adult education among its many activities. It’s on one side of the beautiful Queen Square and about 100m from the iconic Great Ormond Street children’s hospital. It offers a range of hot and cold foods and drinks at amazingly low prices. The cafe is basic in terms of furniture, but it feels and is very welcoming. This was a really good find for me. I shall be back!

We came across Mary Ward cafe, a stone's throw from Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road intersection, by chance. We soon realised why it was crowded - the low cost and high quality vegan and gluten free home-made dishes - really tasty, with accompanying salads. Or else, soups for £2.10 and great coffee cheaper than most anywhere. This is a must for any cash-strapped visitor to central London. The bad news is that we read on their notice board that they are moving to Stratford, East London, where there is a greater need for the adult education services that they provide. We went at lunch time but they are open till 8.45pm. So what I recommend is that you go there and eat before it closes down!

I'm not vegetarian but the food here is tasty and interesting - there are homemade dishes that are different from the usual vegetarian options. It's small but not difficult to find a seat in the evenings. Service is a bit slow. I was also shortchanged when I paid with a £10 note - I'd already left the till by the time I'd noticed and it was only £1 so I didn't go back and raise it.

A great vegetarian find for central London. Good value wholesome vegetarian food options in good portions. Even the bread with the soup was homemade and interesting flavours for less than a supermarket sandwich. The main issue was the queue and the lack of seating. Its a victim of its own success. I sat on a big table with a mix of people but had the man next to me elbow me throughout the meal. Otherwise great to see there are still a few of these places as many old ones have closed.

What a hidden gem. Don't let its vegan moniker put you off. I love meat and all meat based products. There's nothing doing here but that's no big thing. Amazing, a real gem, like a pimped middle class school canteen for grown ups. Cheap, healthy and delicious.

Set within the adult education centre. This ground floor cafe is a gem & located in the best part of Bloomsbury. Although it's a smallish venue & at times hard to get a seat, the food is always fresh and inventive. Prices are reasonable & away from the tourist traps. Great for an early lunch.

the mary ward cafe is a vegan and vegetarian cafe within the mary ward centre which offers short courses for adults. the food is wholesome and fresh with no gm or processed ingredients.inside is nice and bright and has an almost vintage vibe. at the counter you can see the range of dishes that are on offer for the day. for our mains we tried a lentil dish packed with veggies (£4.60) and a caramelised red onion potato bake (£4.60). the serves were generous and both dishes were super tasty. afterwards we had mochas (£2.25) and a vegan almond + chocolate cake slice (£2.50) plus a wheat + gluten free chocolate, coconut + banana cake slice (£2.50).it’s a casual and laid back place which is a great place to catch up with some friends. the prices are really good value for the goodness you’re getting.

Had lunch here with a friend--it was undoubtedly the best food I've eaten in London and I will come back at every opportunity. The food is made from 'real' ingredients and tastes freshly cooked. My only regret was that I couldn't try more than one dish because stomach space is limited. The building itself is a lovely old London house, very gracious.

Found this on trip advisor. Was looking for local vegetarian food and this smashing little cafe didn't disappoint. Good selection of food on the menu, all freshly prepared and clearly with thought, care and attention. As an ex adult educator the fact this is set in an adult education centre added to my pleasures. As good as the food was listening in to the varied and enlightening conversations from amongst the cafe/ centre students. Great. I look forward to a return visit on my next trip to London.

This place is such a great addition to the area; it brings a varied selection of really wholesome vegi/vegan food at a really affordable price. The set-up is simple and basic with the chef cooking a variety of dishes in batches with each batch available only until it's run out. The dishes change constantly but they're all based on simple Italian home-style cooking. This is not fine dining, it's quality home cooking in bulk.

A bustling vegetarian café attached to a free legal advice centre in Bloomsbury. With canteen-style service and seating, this place is no frills, but the food and service and ethos are wonderful. There is a charge if spending under £6 on card, but even though a plate of food wonderfully does not come to that much, add a coffee or dessert to it if you don't have cash on you.

Tucked away along Queen's Square, the Mary Ward Centre Cafe is one of my favorite places to grab a tasty quick dinner when I'm in town. It's staffed by very friendly folks, the food is homemade, and the prices are very reasonable. When I want a light meal I'll get a bowl of soup and bread for less than £3. You can get much more substantial meals (a main and a generous side of salad) for around £6. They offer really tasty vegan friendly desserts too. The only downside is that it can get quite crowed at peak times.

Unpretentious cafe catering for students at the centre and the general public. You choose and are served your food at the counter. It's unlicensed but you may take your own wine which we did as it was my birthday. Main courses and desserts would be good value anywhere, but incredibly good value for London but they don't taste cheap, good quality fresh ingredients are used. This will be our first choice next time we visit London/

I can't remember whether I've already reviewed this place! Whenever I'm in the area, I drop in for lunch/dinner and end up buying 2-3 main courses and a tomato and mozzarella baguette to take away - because I want everything I see! It looks like a plain cafe. Nothing special at all. And then you look at, and taste, the food, and keep going back for more! Each main course is around £4.50 I think I recall. Salad is extra, though. Compliments to the chef!

I have to stay in London once every few months for work and recently looked for vegetarian cafe's in wc1 area, the Mary Ward was nearest my office. What a treat! I have been back every day this week. Expect to queue for 5 to 10 minutes such is the popularity of this little oasis. Forget fancy London prices, a main course will cost you £4.40. Each dish has been terrific, today's cauliflower and blue cheese quiche typically scrumptious. Vegans are also well catered for. The biggest downside? It's closed for the summer term holidays :(

What a great place to eat! I'd not been for many years, and it was so good to find the Mary Ward Centre Cafe as fabulous as it ever was, in terms of food, ambiance and location! Right next to Queen Square, in busy Bloomsbury, one can sit in the park and admire the gardens beforehand, enjoying the tranquillity. In the cafe, they have surges of real busy-ness around meal-times especially, so be prepared to queue for your food and possibly share your table. The food portions are generous, the menu inventive, and the cost very reasonable. There is always a salad bar, and a variety of hot main dishes and delicious dessert treats. Will make a point of going again!

We tried this cafe yesterday for the first time and loved it. It was very busy (queued for food and shared tables) but the food was delicious and wholesome and really good value (hot main with mixed salad was £5,45 (most expensive thing on the menu I think), tortilla with mixed salad £4.65). We really enjoyed it and will definitely be returning soon.

I have been coming to this place for years and it has remained consistently good. All the food seems to be freshly prepared on the premises and you are always spoilt for choice. Hot dishes include pasta, bakes, omelettes and risottos, there are also salads, soups and deserts. It can get busy at times and you may have to queue and share a table but it's worth the wait. Unfortunately as it is attached to an Adult Education Centre the café only opens during term time.

I'm lucky enough to work close to the Mary Ward cafe, which has an excellent selection of meals, salads and cakes. The staff are very happy to discuss any food allergies/options you have, and there is always a good selection for vegans. The cakes are delicious, and pastries are available in the morning. I'm a vegetarian, but it's good enough for my meat-eating colleagues to visit and recommend. The only down side is that they close from late July to mid-September during the centre summer break, and possibly around Christmas and Easter. It's not open late, and from the opening hours are:Monday Thursday: 9.30am to 8.45pmFriday: 9.30am-8.00pmSaturday: 9.30am-4pm

Fabulous music venue. It's quite small, so if there is an act that you particularly want to see, then do book ahead. There are some long tables with benches and chairs, as well as smaller tables and chairs if you want to sit down. They also serve some delicious savoury food, and often have a selection of cakes.
