Most of the bar staff are incredibly helpful however I ordered drinks at the time of last orders and spent about 10 minutes afterwards gathering ffriends in a busy bar to come and take the drink that I had ordered, only to hear that one of the owners had poured two untouched drinks away. Followed by 10/15 minutes of belittling by said person after which I was able to get a full refund the drinks that I had just ordered shortly before. Having worked in bars before I was fully aware that this was absolutely terrible service and should not be tolerated. I am a regular to the bar and have never had this happen to me before so you shouldn't let this put you off however I wanted to mark the occasion as I am utterly appalled at how this was handled. Again I will state that this has been a once off however I hope that those concerned will take note of this absolutely terrible service and learn from it so that it doesn't happen again and take away from the beautiful bar that is mary mcbrides

Such a change from the place downstairs; no disrespect, that was lovely, but this was MUCH better and really suited a birthday treat. However, if you want to go, the tables book up quickly, so decide early. I personally ate the fish, as the guest chef specialises in this, but my Dad swore by the lamb. My mum would have said that there was far too little onion in the champ but it evoked special memories, so I loved it regardless.

Beautiful Inn with more charm than you could write about. Mary’s was fantastic and we lucked into a table with four on an early evening. The lamb with samphire was great as was the fish starter and the desert was over the top. The servery in the hall going up the stairs was classic. The people were nice and the GOT lue door was the topper.

Staying in ths village and had dinner as we couldn't be bothered to drive a long way. Didn't have massively high expectations but would have just been happy with a reasonable pub pie and chips in decent surroundings. What a pleasant surprise then to end up with a fabulous, tasty two course meal for the six of us which was served (by super friendly Siobhan) faultlessly and at a very reasonable price. Best meal out in quite a long time.

Perhaps it is because that I've always returned to Cushendun and enjoyed both pubs there that I have taken my recent experience at McBrides so badly. A friend, a local, and I went into McBrides for some light lunch on Wednesday 24 August 22. I ordered the chicken "open sandwich" from the menu and subsequently my friend politely explained that she was vegetarian and were there any open sandwich options available to her. The waitress was totally unanimated and disinterested and replied "it's what's on the menu, it's just basically a salad, you could have that without the chicken". Interestingly, these words were accompanied by a hand gesture with her two hands opening up like a book, presumably representing the openness of the bread comprising the sandwich. The food arrived without a smile or word. The salad components being very good but swamping the single, VERY thin slice of wheaten bread, about 3×2 inches. Halfway thru my meal, I asked if I may have another slice of wheaten as I had lots of salad left. Upon departure, the waitress, in a very curt manner, slammed down a plate in front of me saying "here's the wee bill for your extra bread". On clarification, I was informed that "nothing is free these days you know". It's not the £1 , it's not the total cost being over £30, it's not even that "open sandwiches" usually comprise two slices of bread being "open", it's the appalling attitude that hurt. On departure I mooted to my friend that if this how locals are treated, what do they say to tourists? I shall refrain from quoting the waitresses reply. Over the years I have spent much time and money at McBrides, brought my family visiting from overseas and in my role as a tour guide and tourism information advisor on the Antrim coast, have directed MANY visitors to both Cushendun and McBrides which will undoubtedly have brought the business added footfall and revenue. It was embarrassing to see how embarrassed my friend was that we could be treated with such contemptuous lathargic distain in her local. Ironically, not two months prior, we had spent over £60 on an evening meal in the upstairs restaurant and then, the young lady serving us (not seen her working since) was smiley, intelligent, helpful and charming.

As the ducks paddled in the river and the gentle lapping Irish sea crowned with the distant sights of the Mull of Kintyre, my fellow diners were welcomed and shown to our table as we passed the regular patrons enjoying some craic after a hard worked week. The upstairs dining area was bright and friendly with good spacing.Starters of scallops superbly cooked, chicken wings and salad, followed with a delectable hake and seabass, steak and duck. Lovely soup and toasted cheese sandwich which were welcome after almost fruitless search for somewhere to have lunch. Server not very welcoming though and place didn’t look open from the outside until we saw someone sitting inside. Never saw so many Guinness ads in my life. Place could be full of character and if full of people in the middle of the summer it probably is but could be so much more welcoming - if only by changing the colour on the walls and telling server to smile!Cushendun has huge potential but on a sunny day in October looked so sad and neglected and who gave permission for a modern 4 storey development which dominates the whole area? Thought this is a conservation area and yet the attractive old buildings in the village are neglected. Wouldn’t go back to the area even for the lovely soup. Such a pity as the village could be a huge draw for the entire area.

Stopped at this little town just to see what was here and found this cute pub. It was dinner time so we ordered the Friday fish fry and vegetable soup. This place seems quite popular with the local people, as we seemed to be the only ones from out of town. Food was very good and the prices are very reasonable. Great place to stop for a Guinness and more!

Visited the quaint little pub, Mary McBride's, during a stay in the area and were totally blown away by the Guinness and chowder. I have had quite a few pints of Guinness in my time and can confidently say it is up there among the best. The chowder is is so rich and creamy and full of fish, that it is almost a dinner on its own. The restaurant upstairs is a real find. The food is fantastic and the staff so friendly and helpful. If you want a flavour of the pubs of yesteryear, make a point of visiting. Oh, and the Game of Thrones door is an added bonus.

Just happened into M. McBrides for lunch after visiting the caves along the coast of Cushenden. Cute pub with lots of old Guinness paraphernalia but I had to write in about the fish chowder. I think it is possibly the best of the face of the planet! Just a bowl of perfect creaminess with chunks of salmon and cod and a little potato. I wish I had the recipe!

We drove into Cushendun in the early evening around 5pm long after the Game of Thrones Coach tours were heading onto their next destination to tick off on their listof been and done it places so apart from a few really friendly locals and bar staff we had the place to ourselves.

Mary McBride's has all the wonderful elements for the perfect afternoon or evening. If you want a casual lunch or pub meal with all the comforts of home but the quality of a great chef, you have found it. They also have fine dining upstairs in the evening as well in a very tastefully decorated dining room. This is my second time to Mary McBrides and Chushendun. I was happy to enjoy my current favorite beer from Belgium, Heaverlee!

We go here every year when we visit and the fish and chips can't be beat. The fish is so fresh. It's a nice stop when exploring the Antrim coast.

We visited this restaurant twice during our stay near Cushendun and had lovely meals both times. The staff were very friendly and efficient, the only down-side is that it is not open every day

(This is a review of the "Little Black Door" restaurant part of Mary McBride's, currently open Thursday, Friday and Saturday only – no idea what the "pub grub" is like as we didn't really go into the bar area as it looked a bit "locals only").

Lovely pub with excellent lunchtime food. The steak sandwich was definitely one of the best we have ever had. Efficient and friendly service and a perfect place to stop on a trip up the stunning Antrim Coast. And they have got one of the Game Of Thrones doors as well !

Just back from Mary McBrides. Had dinner there and wow! Never had such a tasty meal. We had the best chicken wings ever with a delicious blue cheese dip. Mains was even nicer. Very tasty and perfectly seasoned. The staff are absolutely lovely & friendly. The restaurant is cosy, clean and well decorated. The pub downstairs is old and quaint. We will definitely go back. Many thanks to all we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Karen & Frank

Pub typique au RDC et restaurant cosy à l'étage. Les prix ne sont pas donnés (la concurrence n'est pas très rude autour) mais cela vaut le coup car c'est frais et délicieux (et meilleur que la plupart des restaurants irlandais)

Had a lovely meal here with my 2 eight year olds. Chicken stack with a lovely pepper sauce. The kids loved their burger and chicken nuggets mad and beans....they said they would have liked more beans though, came in a small pot! I had glass of lovely wine, the glass was wet. I know that might put some of but didn’t really bother me. Fascinating to see door from game of thrones, entrance into toilets! Only reason I gave 4 stars because my daughter noticed a number of flies flying about and we sat by kitchen! However told my husband about their steak night on Thursday and he’s looking forward to sampling that!

The best little port on a cold wet day. We visited Ballintoy on a typically dreary day and the cafe was so cosy warm and welcoming. Staff are wonderful, coffee was fabulous and the cakes were out of this world. Since great views too. Highly recommend!
