A new concept this: Japanese soup so fast it’s made in front of you. Through the entrance door diners are immediately divided between those intending to purchase a take-away and those seeking to dine-in yet both end up at the same counter. Those dining in pick up a tray and decide between udon or rice, then pork, chicken or beef, the type of broth, then the size: small, medium or large. I opted for a pork tonkotsu watching an egg being cracked before me then poured onto a bowl of udon noodles to which was added spicy miso pork mince, then two pieces of pork fillet and the dish was ready. On my way to the till I was tempted from a selection of small dishes by two crispy prawn tempura. I added a can of tea, paid and took my seat on a wagamama-style bench. All very functional but satisfying enough.

I am a frequent customer of Marugame Bromley, and every visit I had was extremely positive. The food is always top notch, facility is always clean and the staff are always friendly. Especially Kiran and Susmita who go above and beyond to make my experience that much more pleasant with how friendly and how knowledgeable they are!

No one to greet us, or seat us or tell us what to do but it all looked very interesting and different. We decided to approach the food counter and see what there was but really needed someone to give us advice as we'd never had any of this type of food before. We stood like a couple of lemons for a while until another group of customers came in behind us, so we asked them. We took our bowls of noodles to the till and picked up a couple of interesting tempura battered items from a display counter on the way but they should really be hot and freshly cooked, not so nice stone cold. No one helped us at all but I would go back, as there is lots of interesting food to try. Oh and if you want a glass of water you have to ask for the empty glass at the till. We went up to the water machine a couple of times but there were never any glasses!

I took my 12-year-old son to have lunch here and looked forward to trying out the chicken udon dishes. Unfortunately, we both had a stomach bug, with my son vomiting and feeling ill the same night and following morning. I also experienced a stomach bug. While the udon was tasty, I'm guessing the chicken was uncooked or not cooked long enough. Such a shame really, as we had really good customer service. We're hesitant to visit again after feeling like this.

Lots of choices on menu and specially tempura. I will come back again. I will recommend to try katsu udon and chicken tempura.

I have been in this place a couple of times, the food is fresh and delicious. The fresh tempura is a must ;) and the staff is always friendly and helpful. I think the prices are reasonable too. I am so glad this restaurant is just by my doorstep :)

Absolutely excellent. Friendly service, great food, and terrific value. The large udon bowl is huge and my chicken Katsu curry was absolutely delicious. Big chunks of great tasting veg, and very good sauce. Chicken crispy and succulent. Tempura sides also very good and excellently priced. Would definitely go back.

Best sushi in London. We have been regular customers and we never appreciated how good it is until we went to Japan. It is better sushi than most of the sushi restaurants we have been to in Japan. Highly recommend. Also @Head chef, please don’t retire. We love your sushi.

The hospitality of the team here is really warm and attentive. We came for late lunch/early dinner away from the cold. As vegetarians we were prepared for limited options but they were so accommodating and kindly made adjustments to a meat dish for us. They dealt with this request fuss free and clearly communicated to us what our substitutes would be. The starter was cooked perfectly and arrived piping hot. The dipping sauce that arrived with our gyoza starter seemed too little at first but actually we found it was just enough. The chilli mein was so delicious and tasty. Fresh ingredients and the noodles were perfectly chewy and moreish. The Thai green curry was very aromatic but thinner and paler in comparison to our usual liking, but considering this is not a Thai restaurant we were really happy with the dish. Portions are so generous and I think it was the nicest surprise after anticipating smaller plates for £20 each (as a pair). We ended up having the curry and rice between us and took the chilli mein home to eat later as it was actually a lot of food for two! We didn’t use bar or customer toilets but the restaurant is clean and kept well. Would recommend for a quiet Saturday afternoon and a special mention to the waiting staff for being so welcoming.
