Starters and desserts were ok! Mains decidedly average, needed to be hotter and were the broccoli and cauliflower frozen? Tables were sticky and although the staff are pleasant not a place for a second visit.

Nice place for a relaxing lunch with family. Host was really nice and helpful and I really enjoyed my spicy Arrabbiata pasta. I was pleasantly surprised with total cost too. The only thing that could improve is better table top or covers for them(they stick a little). I will come back for some cocktails next time.

Very enjoyable lunch, we all ordered from the set happy hours menu, starters and main, most economical. Portions were generous but not unmanageable. The service was jolly. We will be happy to make a return visit

Hi ,We went last night hoping it would be better than the last time as it was a while ago { i know but you do that dont you } The tables were very sticky for a start ,we noticed the place was under staffed as we sat for 10 minutes at least before we got asked for drinks ,,it wasnt very busy ,the waiter was very joy full and pleasant. I asked him before choosing my meal what they had first as they are known for having a good menu but not a good larder !!! i wanted a T bone he went came back to say i was lucky 1 I ordered that Julie ordered Salmon Portafino Mine came with the peppercorn sauce poured all over the steak {bad sign } i honestly could not cut it it was that bad ,,i was trying different side to get a tender bit and had to chew it then spit it out pictures attached Julies salmon was raw in the middle ,,the waiter later explained it was smoked and was sopposed to be like that ,,we were starving and ate what was edible The waiter bless him said lots of sorries but ,,,thats the last time we will enter the place

Table was dirty stunk of wee dead blue bottle on window yak The starter was ok we had mussels with a slice of cheap bread from the corner shop She had chicken which looked ok I had T-bone steak half of it was fat and full of Gristle left most of it Ordered a pint didn’t come when the manger came over to ask how the food was I told him this and he asked if we wanted desserts I couldn’t believe it I asked for the bill when I went to pay he went missing 🙄never go back worst place I’ve ever ate 56 quid for utter rubbish 😡

I visit here quite often with my friends. We book a table but walk ins are ok too. Food is lovely and not pricey. Theres a happy hour menu which is available too.

Hadn’t been for a while hoping the food quality would have improved after the recent refurbishment. Had a family meal on New Years Eve and again was underwhelmed, food was at best average quality and presentation, hanging chicken wasn’t special, bruschetta was just a slop on soggy bread and long waiting times as lack of staff. Spent almost £200 on food and drinks so expected better.It seems when it’s busy, food standards and quality drop compared to when we’ve just “popped in”. Just one final thing to mention. A lot of money has been spent over the years, and just recently on the decor, but the toilets are disgraceful, the gents toilet in the cubicle has leaked all over the floor for years and never been fixed and in the ladies one cubicle door hasn’t had a lock on for ages. We tolerated this previously and just didn’t use them as the food and service was much better, now won’t. SPEND SOME MONEY SORTING THE TOILETS.

Stayed overnight in the area on business and this place was recommended by a local. We live in the south and were amazed at the price £32 for us both! That included starters and drink. The place appeared to be half way through a revamp tiling etc not finished etc. Good choice of food, and it was plentiful and tasty. There were lots of family groups and birthday groups families. Waitress was lovely and very professional.

My wife and 7 year old daughter visited for an early evening meal, we have been to Martinos many times and have always found it great. I have left this review as I usually have pizza or pasta but I decided to have the T-bone steak. It was a whopper, I like my steak well done, cooked through, often when I ask for well done it comes incinerated and dry. The chef had cooked my monster steak well done to perfection. It was moist and cooked through. My wife's meat ball pasta and daughters spaghetti were their usual top taste. All staff were friendly and helpful and the price was very good for the, amount and quality of food and drinks. Thanks to the chef for knowing how to cook steak properly.

I'd heard quite good reports about the Sunday Lunch here. We had a large family celebration and decided to all come here. To be honest we were all crammed into a small space and you hardly had enough room to move your elbows to eat your lunch if I'm honest. The staff were friendly enough and the portions were generous. However, everyone in the group said that their meal was barely warm. The chicken was also a chicken portion which wasn't stated upon ordering and it had been cooked to death. Very dry and bland. Those that had the beef said it was good. We won't be making a return visit in a hurry.

This is my son's go to place for a nice meal. The quality of the food is always very good and the staff are outstanding. The Sunday roast is always very good.

What a shambles no Christmas decorations, ran out of food so half of my party had to wait for a pasta dish from the restaurant which didn't arrive till 10.45, men's toilets were disgraceful. Would not return again and would definitely not recommend. Only saving grace was the Central Park.

How awful !!!! Bought 8 tickets at a price of £15.00 p.p for a Hot Buffet and entertainment. We've been a few times prior to this event having had an amazing time. As soon as we walked in we noticed that there was nothing xmassy about this place. White table cloth on table but no decorations no serviettes not even Xmas music was played. We sat from 7-9pm with just a bit of Pop music and a buffet service that was stone cold. A dry bread bun with a slap of Turkey or Pork in gravy to choose from, a dollop of stuffing and cold roast potatoes. We complained straight away to what we believe was the manager. He came over to our table trying to explain that there was a change around in the kitchen with staff. Not our problem I am afraid we paid for a service we didn't receive. He said what is it I can do to make it better. He offered us some free drinks which we accepted but that for sure did not make up for the disappointing service we received. We had invited friends to this due as far as Hartlepool and Sunderland. How embarrassing may I add. The chairs where filthy too. I have to admit the band Central Park playing on that night saved the evening as they where amazing as always. I have come across a picture that was taken on the same date 2 years ago just for people to see the difference. This time around it was just a money making evening with no consideration on the paying customers. Definitely not recommending nor returning. Sorry

Visited the function room here tonight for our Christmas Night out. We were absolutely disgusted with the food served. After paying for a hot buffet we were served with a bread bun on which we had a choice of ‘warm’ beef or pork, a spoon of lukewarm stuffing and 2 barely warm roast potatoes. Many tables complained some of which were provided with extra alcohol to assuage their disappointment. However for others of us who could not get in first we got no satisfaction from the powers that be! Is this fair? I think not! Obviously my idea of a hot buffet and the organiser’s idea differ greatly! With this in mind I shall not be returning here!

Visited on a lunch time for the two course special £5.95. I had soup and bolognese pizza. The soup was really tasty and so was the pizza, but I would prefer the pizza base to be thinner (just personal preference). Overall high quality food and very good price.

There is literally so many amazing things about Martinis. Amazing food, great wine, the service was outstanding and the atmosphere was welcoming. We will be returning!

Visited here last month myself and partner, was very impressed by how the place looked and very happy with how we were first greeted and attended to, food was delicious very nice but the staff seem more bothered about bigger parties that were in the place than bothering to see how our meals were or even if we wanted any desserts. That however would not stop me returning but a just think this could be an improvement for staff to remember all the customers within the pub rather than just the larger groups.

We came here for a leaving meal for my boyfriend and wish we had came sooner. All meals were lovely, we got steaks, pastas and pizzas. All were gorgeous and will definitely be returning around Christmas when my partner is home. All the staff were really accommodating and helpful before, during and after our meal. We finished with drinks in the Tree of York Road. They dealt really well with around 30 of us crowding the place. Would definitely recommend.

We come here quite often for the simple reason this place does fantastic food. The service is always great and the place is always very clean. So if you want great food at a very reasonable price this is the place to come.

Ordered med t-bone steak came to me as well done smothered in sauce,you could'nt see the steak,no vegatables on the plate as shown on menue,just a few cold chips in a side dish,i couldnt believe how bad the standard was so dissapointed,a far cry from the last time i was there.

I’ve been here a few times since opening and at first the food was delicious, really well presented and amazing for the price. Always get Caesar salad for starters as we loved it when first going but now with it you get barely cooked chicken breast (way too juicy for my liking- tasted only just cooked) soggy croutons, used to be delicious and crispy, iceberg lettuce?? An Italian restaurant not even giving Romaine lettuce/rocket etc on a salad is shameful... really vinegary dressing and then the bacon was very clearly cheap bacon, not pancetta or bacon lardons like they used too.

We were booked in at Martino’s for a meal for our nephews 18th Birthday. I’d never visited before and on first impressions I thought the decor inside was lovely. It had a nice welcoming feel to it but looked like it had a touch of class to it too. The food was very good and reasonably priced. Drinks were a little expensive, but not so much that I wouldn’t return. The service was impeccable too. I’d definitely go back for other occasions.

Every thing about this place was very good from food too staff and house red wine. We had every thing from ptzza to chicken in Italian sauce it was all very tasty, we where a family of 7 and each had something different.

Not going to get into too many details but had mussels for starters, majority had not even opened and half of those that had tasted less than fresh, sauce was good though! No bread to soakIt up with, new one for me when having mussels.Mains quite good, pasta Diavalo, plenty chillis, had better.Morale of story is avoid mussels.Beer also poorDue to lack of other restaurants in peterlee will probably always be popular but would rather travel a little for something worthwhile

Served two meals containing raw chicken. Management apologised immediately and repeatedly. Those two meals and another chicken meal were not charged. In my opinion the whole meal cost should have been waived.The manager dealt with it swiftly, politely and apologetically. One meal is a mistake however two shows a serious lack of professional cooking skills.I almost certainly will not be returning.

Me and my girlfriend went here the food was fresh and very nice and at a reasonable price the cocktails were fantastic despite a few being out of stock and the service was friendly and quick will go again

Just a passing visit. Walking by decided to have a meal. Although we went around 3pm they told us they weren't open yet. But to hold on a second. Later they seated us and welcomed us after having quiet words asking the chef if he minded catering for us. Which was lovely. Thanks for that guys! The staff were very attentive towards drinks and orders. We had a spectacular deal, 2 course meal for a fiver. Amazing! I had the soup and it was sweet potato soup. And it was piping hot and delicious. So so tasty. For main I had carbonara. And it's the best carbonara that's ever passed my lips! I've recently just moved near this restaurant. Visited based on a recommendation. The food looked very promising but the taste didn't live up to my expectation. Quite expensive for average food!

Dined here on a week night and the restaurant was nice and busy as there was a large birthday group as well as other diners. Entered at half six and were seated straight away. Only ordered mains on this occasion and I chose the ham and pineapple pizza which was very nice and is a good size. My wife ordered a chicken dish and my mother (it was her birthday) ordered a steak and they thoroughly enjoyed their meals too. Food arrived very quickly and all the staff were very nice. We had drinks too and the cost was very good. Have been to this restaurant a few times and will definetely be back again.

This was a special occasion for my brother in law and the meal and service was very poor, the meal was bland, we were never askec if we wanted desert or coffee, and had to wait ages for the table to be cleared. This is the second time we've been there certainly won't be a third!!! Service shocking.

we booked for party of eleven for my wifes 65 birthday, was not dissapointed at all food was exelent on time and hot but most importent good service. at a very good price . we will definately be back.

Have been to this restaurant numerous times for Italian food and it has always been superb. I can say the same for the Sunday lunches. Good selection and cooked to perfection. Staff ad always are fantastic. Always make a fuss of our children. Will definitely be back. 10 out of 10.

the food was absolutely gorgeous couldn't fault it! the staff are so friendly especially Zoe who was our tables waiter she had good manners was professional and all round the perfect waiter! the prices were highly affordable including the drinks the atmosphere all around was warm and relaxed will 100% be going there again what a brilliant experience!!!

I would never ever have expected this restaurant to be such an amazing find! The atmosphere is warma nd welcoming, staff are on the ball, helpful and the service is excellent and the food is utterly fantastic, gorgeous flavours, great portions and if you can't manage everything they will box up to take home too!! Its great value and now one of my favourite local places to eat. I am told the cocktails are very good also though I have yet to sample these! There are four of these restaurants in the chain (I think) and if Im in the area of the other three would have no hesitation is popping in!!

Went on Friday 25 th November 2016 part of a big group of 26. Firstly the drinks are reasonably priced including the cocktails. They managed to get all the starters out for the group and the same for the main courses. I had potato skins and lasagna. Both were well cooked . The service was first class and the staff friendly. I will return and try the steaks.

First time we had dined here. Travelled from durham for a friend's birthday meal. The food itself tasted lovely, however the portions were shockingly small. The starters were average but the mains were terrible. Arabiatta was ordered by 2 guests, it came on a large rectangular plate, but only had 4 dessertspoon fulls of penned pasta on. One guest had lasagne, it was small, had no visible meat and was Luke warm. I has chicken Kiev, which was a small fillet. I will not be back ever. It's not as though they were busy for a Friday night. ..it was quiet. Finally, I don't like to smell detail whilst eating a meal...and that was what they were cleaning the tables with around us. It has a big dining area but did not smell like any italians I've ever been too. We did tell the waiter, who was new apparently, that the meals were tiny. .but nothing was said. So there you go...I thought the customer was always right??

Been to martions tonight for my sons 11 birthday and I can't thank the staff enough fab food and fab service.And I would like to say a big thank you to the manager as he brought over a piece of cake over for my son and got the rest of the staff to sing happy birthday Cant thank you all enough Fab evening and fab food and fab service THANK YOU

We had a meal here mid week ,excellent service and the portions were very good,the only criticism I could make is That the traditional meat and king prawn meals appeared expensive to me but overall I would go back again

We had the three meats sunday lunch was lovely and plenty vegetables for most people. The staff were friendly with of mixed group of adults and children. As the restaurant was full and busy our finished plates remained in front of us for far too long.

I rang and booked a table a few days before when we arrived the man said we are fully booked. We were left waiting about 5mins before seated. The restaurant was far from full and we couldn't decide if he was trying to be funny or not ! Garlic bread to start, delicious. Main course came and it wasn't what I had ordered but was ok and couldn't be bothered complaining and having to wait as the husbands food was right. Both dishes were nice and we had dessert which was ok, covered carrot cake in some kind of sauce which wasn't needed and made it quite sickly.

I have visited this restaurant many times. From work meals to family meals to a nice meal for two, the food has always been lovely. Portions are generous and prices are good. My only issue is slow service. There seems to be a huge turn over of staff and they are always training new servers causing service to be incredible slow. It took 45 minutes for our last meal to come out which was frustrating. Apart from that, I highly recommend the food.

I wasn't very impressed with my 1st but the recent visit was really good . It was a lunch time and the resteraunt wasn't "like an oven" as it was previously . The waiter was pleasant as was the waitress and the food was excellent ...only one of us could manage a desert . I think the only fault I had with the the restaurant is that it's so dark . Black ceiling and curtains ...very poorly lit ... we need to be able to see the menus and the food :-).

Just finished a wonderful meal with 14 family members for a birthday celebration.We visit the restaurant often with our children who love the place, the staff are very friendly and chatty with the kids and always make us feel welcome when we arrive.Tonight was the first time some of the family had ate at martinos and they all really enjoyed it. The food is delicious and very very good value for money.The happy hour is amazingly cheap for the quality of food (excellent) We will continue to visit Martinos again and again, we've not had a bad experience yet.Thankyou

This is the 2nd time we have visited and once again the meal has been fantastic. I recommend Involtini as a starter and the very popular Pancetta for main. I had a side salad which had a great dressing on it. The staff are really friendly. If you are passing nearby this is a must visit.

This is by far my favourite restaurant in Peterlee, which I visit weekly....food is of a high standard (thanks to Gerry) and the staff are friendly and helpful

Lovely setting, nice restaurant and beautiful food, tasty, well presented and great service, will def return! The only minor niggle was a very flat coke but not worthy of anything less than 5 score.

Would recommend the food was lovely the service was great and a reasonable price would go back anytime they have specials too

If you haven't been here you've really got to. Family of 11 went tonight to celebrate daughter's 16th birthday, ages ranging from 6 to 68. All food arrived at the same time which I really like, hate sitting waiting whilst others in the party are eating. Food was presented beautifully and tasted equally as nice. The staff went out of their way to ensure we were all happy, whilst not being too intrusive. They kept our glasses full and sang happy birthday, not once but twice. Nice touch! We all had starters and mains with 4 of the party having steak, then 6 finished with a dessert. We were very impressed when the bill came. We'll definitely be back thank you.

Ok went with my nan and aunt who wernt eating but i was and as my nanna entered restrau t she asked if it ok to sit while i eat and just have a drink, the man who allocated our seat didnt evem reply, he wasnt as friendly as sambuccas even the little touches that sambuccas meet and tend to martinos did not! As they are very similar i thaught that it would be the same! I wil stick to sambuccas in future

The wife and I have been here 3 times, and have had great meals every time. You are made so welcome, like a big family. Try the Blueberry and Disaronno Mojito, the wife loves them. Great staff very helpful.

went with my family for an evening meal. As soon as we arrived we were "greeted" by a miserable bar woman who barely spoke two words two us. Our drink order was then taken by a short blonde lad who got our drinks order wrong. The atmosphere was strange and unwelcoming. We had pizzas and pasta which were all pretty nice and well priced. We had the jaffa cake cake and lemon cake for dessert. Jaffa cake was terrible but the lemon one was pretty nice but just shop bought. We had coffee and ordered wine TWICE but the wine didn't arrive. When the bill came we had been charged for the wine which we didn't recieve and an extra drink. The only member of staff who seemed nice and concerned about us was a tall lad with brown hair. Overall, terrible service except for one member of staff, unwelcoming and uncomfortable atmosphere with a fairly nice main course and poor dessert.

The menu is large and the food very nice although they dont cope well when busy, the night I was there it was full the drinks service was very slow but staff are friendly and apologetic.

Decided to give martinos a try as heard good reports and we weren't disappointed everything first class. The manager met us with a warm a and friendly greeting good service throughout. We decided to try a half portion of the chef's special for a starter gnocchi in a goats cheese sauce with sun ripened blush toms tasted fab.I had chicken in a lemon and butter served with mussels and prawns the smell was devine and excellent taste my husband had chicken in a cream sauce with prawns not disappointed. Can highly recommend this restaurant so nice to have such a gem in peterlee saves us travelling for decent food. We were so pleased decided to return on Tuesday to celebrate my birthday. The chef came out at the end of the night to talk to customer what a nice touch. Well done to all staff you were all fab thank you for a lovely night.

Had a 80th birthday party here in March was fantastic the food was superb, the staff were brilliant and the price was very impressive would not hesitate to recommend. Five star rating anyday

I had not expected it to be as nice. Most of the food was excellent. It was let down however by the unappetizing and soggy Mediterranean vegetables and lack lustre chips. The main fayre though was stunning with reasonable service too.

Visited here for lunch recently. I didn't feel it was as good as the Martinos in Seaham which is very good. Decent food none the less, I would give it a 3.5 if I could as its better than average but not as good as very good. Benefit is its on the doorstep so very handy for a quick pizza or pasta.

Went here with friends on a Sunday night. Only had rump steak left which wasn't mentioned when menus were handed out. I had to ask for cutlery 3 times before starter arrived. The starters were miniscule compared to what you would expect and what you get from other Martinos and other Peterlee restaurants, especially the black pudding dish which was 2 small thin discs and a few shavings of carrot and lettuce and at nearly £5 was extortionate. Main meals were handed out in drips and drabs, one of our party hadn't received their pizza by the time most of us were coming to the end of our mains. Claimed to have made the wrong pizza when they came to ask what she had ordered. All in all, my own families food tasted fine but the level of service is something that the management needs to improve on if people are to return again. I won't know though as we'll be going elsewhere.

Lovely food as ever. Place was packed with a lot of large parties so the staff tended to focus on them. Had to hunt staff down to ask for more drinks etc.However pleasant evening, nice food and friendly staff when you found them.I'll definitely be back!

Sunday lunch for 7 is never going to be an intimate affair but the restaurant handled it well. This is the Italian section of the fairly new gastropub The Tree (formerly the Argus Butterfly). The layout hasn't changed a great deal over the years but the décor has certainly been improved to the better. We all had classic Sunday lunch and the food quality was fine without being anything to write home about. Slightly slow service but nothing I was bothered about. Another place that I wouldn't rush back to but I wouldn't rule it out.

Just been for a meal with my wife at martinos peterlee We had really nice starters and we're looking forward to our main meals.When they arrived I starting eating mine and it was really nice however after my wife had a few mouthfuls of her bolognaise she found a hair in her food.My wife wasn't going to say anything but I approached a waiter and told him about the hair.He said he would look into it and took my wife's plate away and with no apology or nothing he did not return .I wanted to complain but as my wife didn't want to make a scene I didn't take the matter up again.But for no apology or no fresh food to replace what had been taken away I believe is shocking service.We have been to martinos on quite a few occasions but after this incident we won't be returning.

One of the best steaks I've had in a long time. Well worth the money. Staff made my friends feel special with a lovely Happy Birthday song and candle laden profiteroles Definately going back soon

Mid week treat and it was great service and very tasty food. We had the special and it was worth every penny will definitely be making a return visit .
