Ask Italian in County Durham

I thought there was supposed to be mince in Lasagne and 6 meatballs size of walnuts. NOT value, overpriced for miserable meals. Worst Italian had. Won't be back. Bill£50 - unbelievable.

Came in for a meal with a group of my friends and had a fabulous experience. The service was fantastic. All the staff were super lovely and helpful, and made us feel really comfortable as a couple of us have food allergies. The food came out before we knew it, and it was delicious! It was soo good we didn’t even take pictures. I will definitely be back soon!

Ask in Durham never fail to impress we go at least once a month as I have 2 fussy children with ASD and finding food they both like is always hard but ask is never a problem the staff go above and beyond to make sure the food is right. The manger lee always says hello and makes the kids laugh he is a real credit to the store. Happy friendly staff and always 5stars from us.

SO me and my friends went out for lunch for her birthday. as always the food was good but one waiter ruined it. he was extremely rude and shouted at my friend on her BIRTHDAY and really upset her as she is shy. honestly the worst customer service i’ve had in a whole it really upset us a grown man shouting at a 15 year old girl is disrespectful and disgusting. i won’t be coming back

I went here for lunch with 6 of my other friends for one of their BIRTHDAYS so you think the service would be good but NO. The food was average but the service is what really made this a bad experience. The male waiter was rude multiple times shouting at us for no reason. Tried to overcharge us for something we did not order and tried to blame it on us when really it was his fault. Overall bad experience and won’t be heading back there any time soon.

Food was amazing and Andrew our server was fabulous. He made our night even more special, couldn’t do enough for us and was so pleasant and funny 🤍

The garlic bread was tasty but was almost cold, the carbonara was cold, tasteless and any sauce that was on the dish was gone! Really expensive for the portions too, I’m still hungry the portions were that small do not recommend

We used to choose this ASK over other chains as the food was good and the atmosphere nice. But it's really gone downhill. We were very surprised and disappointed. Very slow. 40 minutes after ordering I had to chase our food with a rather terse manager who didn't apologize or smile, and was very dismissive of us having somewhere else to be. Pizza was very poor, they used to be great. Minimal toppings, very dry, so different from previously. Really no better than a cheap home freezer one. There was an offer on which wasn't taken off our bill and had to be queried. Overall a poor experience and markedly different from before in terms of both food and service.

This is one of our favourite chain of restaurants to eat mainly because my wife is Coeliac and needs a safe gluten free variety of food. The staff are fully clued up with allergies and always ask on entering whether anyone has any. The GF menu is very substantial and the spicy calabria pizza is one of the best GF pizzas I have had. I also love the Mushroom risotto. My wife's fave GF dessert is the Chocolate Etna with the warm sauce slowly melting the chocolate covering of the ice cream. Also a big plus is the special perks you get when joining the mailing list. We have had numerous free sides, mains and starters. Also my wife was very surprised to receive a £10 off voucher around her birthday. All in all I would definitely recommend ASK italian. We normally visit the Metrocentre ASK and this was our first visit to this one. Staff were friendly and efficient

GLUTEN FREE PIZZA WAS TO DIE FOR!!!!

Booked this literally last minute on the day for my daughter's 20th birthday!. booked the table for 3pm but due to change of plans rang ahead to see if we could bring our booking forward, which the staff were more than accommodating to do. The table was booked for 10 of us and we were giving a lovely spot right in the middle of the restaurant. We had orders taken and food served by Lee. Lee is such a lovely person and was great at suggesting alternative menu choices and even tried to ensure we were saving money by dining from the lower priced menu. He in particular shone when my son was was unable to decide on a menu choice but Lee offered him various choices and suggestions. He also accommodated a menu for myself that wasn't displayed on the menu but i had previously and said it would not be a problem to do this and he was so right as it was lovely! Everyone enjoyed the food and drinks served and the service by all the staff could not be faulted. A very special thank you to the lady who served us towards the end of our meal and kindly took a family photo of us all. Thank you to all the staff especially Lee and the kind lady (sorry didnt get her name) once again who made our visit a memorable one and a highlight on my daughters birthday!

Wonderful early evening food for our daughters birthday...Great ambiance in this place with varied menu to choose from..Fairly priced at approx 100 pound for 4 people incl drinks ...Andrew who looked after us was a joy and with an impeccable manner to deal with his customers..One of the reasons that we will back again...Thanks Andrew..

Okay! I visited this store on 27/07/2024 at 13:07 during my lunch break. I asked one of the staff member on how long will it take for them to give me a simple pizza. She replied by saying that it takes around 5-7 minutes for takeaway but for dine in , it might take around 10-13 mins . Then I was like okay, I would rather go for takeaway then I ordered one based on the menu which she gave. I was told to sit down which was nice of them, then I was asked to pay . I paid 13.95 but the price was 11.95 . I asked her on why is that case and was told that the takeaway is different. She just smiled and left. I got my pizza in 8 mins exactly which is amazing. I asked the staff to be able to sit down and have food as I had enough time . She was a bit unhappy and asked me to sit in the waiting area and finish off. The pizza was not even cut and I asked for the pizza cutter. She brought it and put it a bit on the waiting area table harshly. I felt embarrassed as people were looking at me. I cut my pizza and started eating. The pizza had very less cheese and it felt like I was eating a flat bread with sprinkled cheese on it. I asked for like the olive oil or something on the top which is like store complimentary which is in every pizza store, I was told to wait and never got it. I was then told that it won’t be allowed for me and the only reason I was able to sit and have the pizza is because of them being generous. I was literally upset over the whole thing and left the place. It is so disturbing as I kinda felt left out or abandoned. Not sure why they have done this to me. I am just posting this as I am super upset and extremely unhappy with the service. I have been in food and hospitality business for a long time, this is really not the best service. I would rather not visit the store again . I am sorry if I am too harsh in giving the stars but I am just sad and disappointed.

My family and I have had a lovely meal here, the selection of food is fabulous as well as the warm and friendly atmosphere! The staff were so accommodating and welcoming- our waitress Alicia took extra care to make sure we had everything we needed and more, a credit to the team. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone!☺️

What an unpleasant experience. The main course was tasty but cold. The service was extremely slow but the waitress was pleasant. We ordered dessert but it took so long to come we told a male server we couldn’t wait as we were going to the gala and could we have the bill. He then aggressively harangued us told us we had plenty time to eat it! He brought it and the bill. He then told us we should have told them we were going to the gala. We had been in there for an hour and thirty minutes! I wouldn’t go back.

Callum, our server, was incredible. He was attentive, humorous and a great sport.

Come in with my 3 year old little boy regularly, he loves the kids menu. Really good value for him, 3 courses. He get some nice dough breadsticks to start, a really good sized pizza and a chocolate brownie which he loves. Service is always very friendly , our server Rachel and Alex couldn’t be more helpful A really pleasant meal

Large group visit in which everything was pre ordered. 2 hours from the booking time we got our mains, pretty shocking really. My pasta main was v tasteless, had some of my colleagues pizza that was thankfully tasting of smoked meat and sweet tomato sauce. My side of greens was so basic watery, lacked almost everything. Not sure what the issue was but most of us were not impressed to consider returning.

Food was absolutely gorgeous. Lee has got to be one of the best servers we have come across! So friendly and attentive. He managed a lot of tables on his own with ease. We even noticed how it handled 'awkward' customers and went above and beyond!!!!! 100% we will be back again.

Booked this place for a Monday afternoon lunch out with my friends to celebrate my birthday. Despite having told the waitress it was my birthday on the door, I didn't receive service anywhere near to what I would expect on a usual day let alone what was supposed to be my special day. Ordered my food as part of the group, asked if I wanted garlic mayo, ketchup or normal mayo with my order so I said yes to garlic mayo. Ordering was efficient however the service was very slow when we finished our food and it came to clearing away our plates. The manager cleared 3/5 plates and then proceeded to go off and chat with his colleague loudly for 10 minutes before realising he hadn't finished clearing our plates away in an otherwise empty restaurant. You would have thought being quiet they would provide extra attentive service but how wrong I was. They also had the cheek to charge me £1 extra for what was the TINY dish of garlic mayo sauce on the bill - this is just out of order and customers should not be expected to pay extra for sauce when already paying £17+ for a meal. The only thing which is worth complimenting was the food quality. Other than that, this place requires some serious improvements to service. Such a shame as it did spoil my birthday experience. Will not be going there again as it's not worth it and other nearby restaurants I've been to are much nicer.

We visited Ask in Durham last night. We were a group of four which included two users of wheelchairs. The staff quickly found a space that we could all fit despite there being a very large party in at the time as well as other diners. Even though the restaurant was busy the service was still very prompt. We didn't feel at all rushed to decide on our food and drink choices or to leave when wed finished. Our server, Lee, was super friendly and made us feel comfortable, he also had a bit of a laugh with us which we liked. We felt as if he couldn't do enough for us. I had the Seabass which was really nice along with a sorbet sunday which was refreshing. We had a lovely evening and Lee was a large part of it

Selected because it was near to our hotel - it was pouring with rain so needed to be close. Happy that we did, as the service was good and the food fresh and nice. Good size portions (Pizza Prima Pollo & Prawn and Crayfish pasta) and reasonable value. Very good for a chain.

Pleasant, friendly service, families are made to feel very welcome. The food is very good and the monthly perk is a bonus. Staff are efficient and interact nicely with their customers.

My son has allergies and Lee was very attentive, explaining what was safe on the menu. He kept checking on us, making sure we were having a good time. We had a fantastic time.
