Martinos in Sunderland

Went to martinos seaburn with my family and the owners we obviously in walking around dressed like scruffs and pulling the staff aside every 2 minutes! Staff were doing a great job but the owners made us and other feel uncomfortable the way they were going on. Put us right off and will never be back. Food was spot on just owners thinking they are big time dressed like drug dealers

Came in out of the cold for a couple of beverages, only to be bombarded with less than satisfying products, the spirit measure had not been washed out, resulting in my spiced rum and coke tasting like the previous piña colada I witnessed being served. I was charged upon requesting this drink and after the barmaid had taken my money she decided to ask whether this would be a single or double measure. I also ordered a pint of John Smith's, more like a John's Pits, there was a strong distinct taste of copper and looked extremely watered down. My overall experience at martinos has been less than satisfying as far as the drinks go, fingers crossed and best of luck to those dining in this establishment this evening.

We have been frequent visitors to Martinos over the years, that is up until our last. Visited with a friend and our children, man behind the bar (how he’s still working there as the source of so many complaints is beyond me) got my order wrong and then tried to blame me for it, leaving some some of our table without food and some with only part. No apology and just plain rude, haven’t been back since.

Went for the happy hour with two of my friends. Thing that really annoyed me was that my friends were sharing a bottle of wine and I was driving so on soft drinks. The waiter however would not take no for an answer and still poured me a glass of wine, which was left. We were then asked 5 times was the food ok, which it was however they simply wouldn't leave us alone. Food was nice but please let people enjoy it.

We've been here many times and never had any issues with service or the quality of the meals. It's a lovely atmosphere and the standard of the meals has always been first class. Would highly recommend

The first section of Martinos is called Portobello Shore ,we sat at one of the half moon shaped tables which was pleasant ,and bright with a big window behind us .Two of us had chicken ,which was a good sized tender breast ,and one had the beef which there was lots of and was tender and lean .there was a big Yorkshire pub on plate ,lots of gravy ,roast and mashed pots and each of us were served a separate platter of veg .Everything tasted delicious and the staff were extremely polite and pleasant .And to top it all it was easiest the lowest price we have paid for a Sunday lunch in a long time .We will definitely be back .

Took our grandchildren for late Sunday lunch...strange comment but meal came a 'bit quick'. Salmon was dry as was one of the vegetable portions as if they had been prepared much earlier.. As it is one of our local restaurants we were very disappointed, however there is a lot more local restaurants in the area to choose from.

We were staying in the area following our football team and friends who live locally recommended Martinos. We were not disappointed. Whilst the outside of the building is uninspiring, the inside is very different. You enter into a spacious bar area with cosy booths, which then leads onto a busy restaurant. We visited on a Saturday night in January and the restaurant was packed. They do an amazingly priced early evening menu, however the normal menu is excellent value as well. Six of us shared excellent garlic breads, generous portions and super thin. Our main courses were a mix of pastas, all with delicious sauces and chicken Kiev. All of which were delicious, the Kiev was declared the best ever eaten by one of our party. All served with super cold Amoretti, in the correct glasses, always important in my book! We enjoyed a great evening and although we moved on after finishing our meal, the bar area would be a really nice area to finish off an evening. We look forward to returning.

Visited on Wednesday with my family, we all ate from the 4.95 menu & paid extra for other dishes we wanted. 2 of us ordered the chicken & leek soup, it was lovely, the garlic mushrooms & the potato skins were massive portions. We all opted for pasta & again the portions were huge. We regularly visit the restaurant & this was the quietest we've seen it. The staff are all canny, the food is good & the selection on the menu is excellent. For 5 of us to eat 2 courses & a bottle of wine it was only £50, can't be best

Had a family night consisting of ten people. All meals came hot and well presented. Table staff were lovely, had a good rapport with the children and the adults. Never felt rushed. Would definitely recommend.

Been here many times there's a diner/ bar area and atmospheric restaurant area . Had a pizza last time which was marvelous been a few meals here the standard of food is excellent

Wow me and my friend visted yesterday and were greeted by a very attentive,friendly waiter who really took the time to talk and ensure that we were ok and he asked us our drinks which were 2 pints lime and soda. It was excellent service by all the staff.We ordered a risotto dish and a pizza which was amazing. The portions sizes were very good and we ordered a portion of chips in the middle. The total cost of the bill was £19.65. Been before and didn't experience a good meal on Boxing Day last year so put me off going when my friend said we could go there but wow I am glad we did feel like there is new staff who offer excellent service and the ambience of the restaurant is just brilliant . All together it is a fab restaurant and would definitely recommend.

This is a quick review. We visited for something quick and easy with the grandkids. Ham & mushroom pizza,which is normally very nice,consisted of a pizza base with 4 very small pieces of ham and a few mushrooms spread about. Like they cutting costs on ingredients.

Great food and the variety on offer has improved dramatically recently. One of the best in Sunderland. Great cocktails and a place where a full evening can be spent in the restaurant and then the bar. Also great relaxed dining atmosphere when seated in the bar area for food. Most of the staff are great and accommodating.

Often used to visit this Italians food is always tasty and a lovely Sunday dinner often booked large tables 15+ but once I arrived and tried to move a seat at our large group table as they put the high chair on the end and wanted my child to sit next to me not on the end but I got told I wasn't aloud to move it and she would have to sit at the other end why let me book a table to have my daughter on the end of another table and also dropped balloons off and said they would have been ready for my getting there and sadly they wasn't what was abit dissapinting after often eating hear & always coming for birthday meals/ parties still the food is lovely but after this experience I will be put off going regularly and won't return for a while and defo not the most kid friendly place

Called in for lunch an warn cuppa after bracing sea air.Prompt and attentive service even though got increasingly busy.Food was piping hot and good size portions too.

Food is honest and tasty and Good portions , service is Excellent! And the drinks menu both draught and wine is superb. Paired with its location right on the Sea front it's perfect especially with the prices being VV reasonable. So you could sit down and have lunch as a family of 4 for probably just 20% more than braving the cold with fish and chips and a can of pop!

Been here many tines with family and is really good for food and drinks and especially the cocktails. Staff very pleasant and establishment has pool tables and free wifi and is very close to the beach. Parking spaces are not plentiful though.

Called in for a coffee and waited 45 minutes with still no coffee. After asking for it a few times we ended up just getting our money back and leaving with still no coffee, explanation or apology. Worst service I've ever had!

Food was very nice, however felt like we were eating in crèche and generally a lot of rude people. Maybe we just went on a bad day, either way ruined the experience.

I had the pleasure of eating here and would recommend this if ever you are visiting the areaA great selection of food is on offer and when presented, you think, his wont fill me! Oh how wrong you would be. I am big chap and I will admit, I struggled to finish it but with it being so nice, I made sure I forced it down!The staff are very friendly and can't do enough for you when they spill red wine over you :-) (sorry guys, I had to mention it)Clearly, spilling wine isn't a regular occurrence here so please don't let it put you off. Make sure you try this place out if you want to go home stuffed and happy

A group of 8 of us turned up on a saturday night about 8pm and were greatful to get a table as we had no idea where to go in Seaburn, the food was really good and the portions huge and value for money. Staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The only thing i would mention is that the service was quite slow especially as it is order at the bar and took quite a while as there was 8 of us plus all the other customers, this also meant that some of us had finished our meal before the others had even got theirs. We were celebrating my birthday and having a good girly catch up so it was no big deal about waiting. Would definately eat here again when visiting the area

We went for the 2 course lunch deal as it is good value for money. Briliant service from Tatti and Alex? (I'm sure that was their names) very funny and welcoming. They were also very helpful with recommendations. Our food was beautiful, I had the garlic mushrooms to start and Penne Aldo for main, they definitely aren't shy on the amount of prawns in the portion, beautiful! Will definitely return soon.

The food here is of good standard and the staff are very welcoming polite and efficient. The prices are very reasonable too. nice place for romantic meal or just as friends or family get together.

Been here a few times and the italian food is always very good. We brought my parents here today for Sunday lunch and the food was just as good. Everything you would expect on a Sunday dinner, mash, roasties, yorkie pud, veg and a very generous portion of meat, real meat aswell not the razor thin meat some places serve up! We all agreed it was very tasty and would definitely return. I was going to mark 4/5 but changed at the last minute to 5/5 as the staff were really lovely.

Having visited martinos on the fish quay North Shields I expected more or a little less here. On arrival in a party of six after booking we were told to wait for a table not a good start ! Two of the starters were Luke warm at best and the service slow. The mains were as we ordered in most Italian restaurants but my and one others steak was really as my guest said " chewy" I would say tough. The wine is over priced and the deserts appeared to be bought in. Not to be repeated in an area with good restaurants .

Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with Martino's. I wasn't too keen on coming here anyway after reading reviews and getting feedback from friends. However, I went last December for a friend's birthday and my low expectations were confirmed.... After standing around awkwardly while every other customer glared at us for 5 minutes, a young waiter came over to seat us but seemed confused. He didn't understand what we were asking and had to go and check prices/ ingredients on 3 occasions which was frustrating. However, we accepted that he was probably new, everyone's been there at some point right?When our food came, my friend (whose birthday it was) was given the wrong order, so the same waiter went back to check this, he was gone for over 5 minutes when he finally returned and said it would be resent out. No apology or offer of a refreshment though (basic customer service?). Nobody enjoyed the food, it was cheap, microwaved slop, low quality ingredients that were poorly presented and jumbled on a plate. I know for the price, we had to be realistic and weren't expecting a 5 star Standard but the food and customer service was horrific. I won't be returning, I'd rather save up and go somewhere more expensive. At the end of the day... You get what you pay for and this is reflected at Martino's.

I really wanted to like this place as I've seen lots of great reviews and I also eat in the Seaham one at least twice a month. I've gone 3 times and had issues now. 1st visit hair in food. Advised waiter and meal took away. 2nd. Items missing from the meal and didn't come until the steak was cold and rest of table had eaten. 3rd the place was very cold. Food went cold very quick. Lasagne as per was superb. Spaghetti lobster wasn't great. The roe had all fell from the lobster to the spaghetti. There was some strange bits from the lobster mixed in and it just wasn't great. Service was good. Sorry. I'll stick to the Seaham one which we do love.

Beautiful food fabulous staff worth the money I will be back asap the relaxed atmosphere it's been a lovely end to our day

I have been here with small parties of 5 or less in the past, so seemed obvious choice for my pre-50th birthday party celebration meal as we were all staying in Seaburn ahead of the party the next night.Booked 3 months in advance, pre-ordered for all 24 diners with starters, mains, sauces & side dishes all provided to restaurant 2.5 weeks beforehand.We turned up and decided to all individually order drinks from the bar to avoid the usual discussions about splitting the bill! 24 of us had 2 drinks each before even being seated, more than 30 mins later than booked. OK, just a minor irritant I thought...how wrong I was! Starters took another 30 mins, and then came out in dribs and drabs, and some (mine, for example!) didn't arrive on my plate at all. By this stage it was gone 9.15pm. We were a table ranging in ages from mid 30s-late 70s. Even at 50, eating this late was not acceptable to me. I advised the staff of this, to be told that they didn't have the pre-orders :-( So, I provided my copy, and yet we still waited another 30 mins until the first meals came out. As we were now at 10pm, most of us were, understandably, past the point of eating and, in fact one of my family member's meals (pork) was inedible. On speaking to the manager, my friends were belittled and talked down to, being advised "just sit back at the table and we will make sure you're taken care of". A discount was given which was portrayed as very reasonable, but failed to take account of the substantial (almost a third of the total bill) deposit I had paid to secure the booking. As my friends were taking care of the discussions on my behalf so as not to spoil my experience, the feeling all round was that the manager took advantage of the fact that he had full knowledge of the deposit paid whilst my friends were unaware. So, the reduction in the bill was actually very minimal and certainly did not compensate us for the horrible experience we endured. Another large party at the table behind us were also celebrating a milestone birthday, an 18th. We discovered later that they had been adding drinks to their bill, rather than ordering at the bar. After complaining and getting nowhere, as we had, they left the restaurant without settling any of their bill. In retrospect, I feel we were taken advantage of - both in our patience in waiting for our food (luckily we're a resilient bunch so made the most of our waiting time and had lots of fun & laughter so my experience wasn't marred by the atmosphere!) and the manager's attitude and, quite honestly, fraudulent representation of the compensation for the abysmal situation. I genuinely believe that he played on the fact that my friends were trying to protect me from having to deal with the issues that could have ruined my night, and used this to his advantage - a shocking state of affairs!Needless to say, I will not be returning to Martinos in the future!!!!!

Visited after asking at work if anyone knew anywhere good to eat as we were going to the lights in Sunderland. The happy hours offer is good value and portion sizes are good. Atmosphere is authentic and friendly. There's a good baby room for anyone visiting with babies/toddlers. It got really busy while we were there and it was only a Thursday...so would recommend booking. Would recommend and visit again if in the area. Well located for the illuminations

Food was absolutely brilliant, we had spaghetti bol,chicken with peppercorn sauce with chips.was more than enough portion of food and price was very reasonable too. Would definitely return.

After being recommended me and a few friends decided to come here for dinner, I was not very keen on a very beautiful restaurant being open plan next to the pub/bar. We were very dressed up and used the main entrance which appeared to be straight into the bar and we felt a little out of place. Otherwise the food was very nice and the staff were alright. Had better service but most staff were very friendly. Enjoy more when one or two waiters/waitresses are tending to you but it was a different staff member each time.

Always great value, especially the happy hour meals. The quality of the food can be hit and miss. There have also been occasions where our starters have been cleared then our mains have been forgotten about and we have had to remind staff. Cheap and cheerful but the service could definitely do with some improvement.

Martinos was always somewhere I wasn't bothered about even though it was in my doorstep. However recently it's totally stepped up the mark!! The new portobello shore on the front of the restaurant offers a laid back atmosphere with a large new menu. Staff always AMAZING with my baby. Sunday dinners gorgeous too. And all so reasonably priced.

My fiancee and I sometimes visit for dinner, the happy hour menu while a little limited is excellent value and worth a look

Visited a few times recently and our meals have always been delicious, tried both the pizza and pasta and the portions are fair size! Chips are always lovely and chunky and home made! Service can be a little on the slow side which can be annoying, especially when one of the waiters was standing about on his phone! Still would recommend

Visited for tea on opening night of illuminations with family. This restaurant was very poor. No table service but prices still at table service rate. The food was average we ordered pizza with sides of chunky chips and onion rings for a quick dinner. The pizza barely had any topping and was so thin it was practically transparent. The onion rings were frozen from a packet. Very disappointing. No atmosphere or friendly waiting staff definitely would not return.

Had a lovely meal here last night for my friends 50th birthday it was delicious and very reasonably priced also staff were lovely and even sang happy birthday to her

Tired the lobster spaghetti so much lobster thought it was excellent value for money and son had carbonara which was also excellent, very family friendly great cocktails and will definitely return

Decided to have an early tea, been to Martinos previously and it was fine, we could sit outside in the sun with our dogs so what could go wrong?Ordered food around 5:45, three pasta dishes, a potato skins and a mushroom starter, were given number 69 spoon. We waited patiently, twenty minutes pass, you think it will be soon, sun going down. Waited another twenty minutes and went to ask where our food was, told it was on its way, no explanation as to why 40 minutes. Other customers that arrived long after us received their food, we waited in hope. Another twenty minutes some food arrived, we asked why it took so long, they said chef had mixed things up. Five minutes later the final dish arrived, again we asked why the hold up and said we did not think it acceptable (giving the opportunity to apologise and offer some compensation) they just said they apologise. The mushrooms and potato skins were luke warm, maybe they were mady 40 minutes ago, Could see no hints for compensation would mean anything to the waiters, so we ate up and left and wont be going back. No matter how decent the food is, service like this is not acceptable at any time. There are other eateries in close proximity which we will be now using on our regular seaside visits.

We went to Martinos for a family meal on a busy Friday evening. We had booked, but I'm less than convinced they had our booking listed. They found us a seat anyway.We ordered some drinks, after being sat for 10mins, then they took out order but not for another 20mins. We waited another 30-40mins for our starters.The food was ok, you get what you paid for. Ok for a cheeky Friday night out, wouldn't rush back.

We dropped in here after work on Tuesday,really hungry and looking forward to dinner. Hadn't booked but no problems getting a table. We ordered drinks as soon as we were seated and they were served promptly......then came the delays. Waited 15 minutes for someone to take our order for good,waiter was too busy flirting with two young ladies on the table next to us! Order taken after we asked him if we could order and waited about 20 minutes for starters to be served,then waited an age for our main courses. When we asked how long they would be we were told the kitchen was very busy and yes the restaurant was busy but a wait of an hour and ten minutes since ordering our main course,to me,is excessive. The food,when we got it was lovely ,the Chicken Kiev is to die for and the pork with mushrooms was a huge portion and very tasty. It's a shame the meal was let down by the service

Visited Martino's for a family get together and the atmosphere was good. Our food took a little while to arrive but that was good for us as we were part of a large party and it was a good opportunity to chat. I ordered from the "new" menu and had line and chilli calamari to start and it was cook to perfection, not overdone and not greasy at all. Just the right about of lime and chilli. I ordered the surf and turf burger for main and was less impressed, the burger tasted a bit weird and not at all like beef, the consistency was a bit rubbery, also there wasn't much lobster in it at all, maybe just claw meat. the bun was ok and so were the chips but I wouldn't recommend it. My husband ordered the seafood linguine and that was much better. Price was good and would go again but would stick to ordering the pasta.

Had a lovely meal here with the family. Great food and very nice staff. It's very popular and well worth a visit. It's even nice to sit outside and have a drink.

Have visited here many times now, usually a Saturday lunchtime. They offer great lunchtime/early evening type offers and it is the place of choice for our children aged 3 & 5! Pasta is great but we do find the pizza to be rather bland I'm afraid.

Returning visit as can't complain about the good or the service. Always visit for family birthdays and always leave very happy, the food is lovely and the staff always happy to help with any requests. Would recommend to anyone.

My wife and I visited Martinos quite late on Sunday evening,it was very busy but we were found a table and the staff were so pleasant and friendly.the food was delicious and good value,we didn't feel rushed and thoroughly enjoyed everything.We will definitely visit again .

We had this booking for 17 people as a celebration of our cousins wedding and how disappointed we were waiting for our food. We could understand that they might not cope with such a large number but we thought with advance booking we would be OK. How wrong were we! !! From sitting down at 7.30 we were not served til 9 .10. One of our party was diabetic which highlights the lack of care and consideration that was given to us. We paid over 250.00 for our meal and on this basis I would not go back again . Hence no tip !! . Shocking service but lovely food. If only they had put on complimentary olives and bread that would have made all the difference. how can you have an advance booking and fail ??

Sunday lunch had plenty of chicken with large Yorkshire pudding for £5.95. Also offers beef and lamb or trio fir 8.95. Really tasty Sunday lunch will be going back.

We arrived at this resturant it was very busy,I had not booked a table but we were squeezed in a corner it was lovely and out the way(the way I like).staff took our orders very quickly,though we did wait around 25 minutes due to how busy the place was food was well waiting for,we got the steak and it was cooked to perfection,compliments to the chef.bad points only was that there was also a couple of girls(waitresses ) that you could see had not been there long and you could clearly make out they had been thrown straight into the deap end,the management were becoming frustrated with them and at one point seen one manager be very rude and abrupt with her in front of us and other customers.i think what they forget that they have been there as a trainee at some point and you need to start from somewhere.other than that food is fantastic and will def be returning when am through there again

Have been to this restaurant a few times, in large company and as a couple. Staff are very friendly and competent. Meal orders taken at a leisurely pace, meals served together and very filing. Drinks/wine very reasonable.

Lovely restaurant with very relaxed & comfortable atmosphere.The young lady who greeted us at the door was warm & friendly and nothing was too much trouble during our visit. She was extremely patient when we decided to move tables because we wanted to sit nearer the front of the restaurant beside a window.The overall service was very good - attentive, efficient and friendly staff. The food was delicious and served on hot plates (always a winner with me!) We only get up to the North East once or twice a year and will definitely be returning to Martinos in the future!

My husband and I used to regularly visit martinis for coffee while we were at the beach. It has been a while since we were here, but visited on a Sunday morning . I found the decking area terrible. Full of rubbish. Not pleasant viewing. Our coffees were brought quite quickly , but I was left a dirtyDESERT spoon to stir my tea. Gone down in my estimation.

From the beginning of the meal to when we went home I can't find a single good thing to say about the service in this establishment. With us being a party of 19 we were asked to preorder which was completely fine, I've worked in the service industry for a long time so I know that asking customers to do this is to ensure a big parties food comes as quickly as possible and helps the night run smoothly. However, this was not the case tonight. We arrived and sat down straight away then headed to the bar to order drinks. Only a few people on the table were having starters so we thought they would arrive fairly quickly (we only ordered things like potato skins) however we had to wait over 45 minutes. After about 30 minutes of waiting we were approached by a waiter who said there had been an issue in the kitchen and gave us some complimentary garlic bread while we waited. After starters we waited 20 minutes with empty plates on the table while members of staff chatted among themselves and walked past the table several times, I understand it was busy in the restaurant and I could forgive a lot of what happened tonight if I wasn't constantly seeing staff doing nothing.At the end of the meals we did complain about 1 dish which was dissapointing for the price. (We would of complained sooner but no one came to check on us.)When we complained the waiter said "why didn't you complain when you were given the meal? There's nothing I can do about it now". I work in the industry and I must say I was absolutely disgusted by the way the waiter handled that situation, I know without a doubt that I would be severely reprimanded for speaking to a customer this way, as is the case in most restaurants. They really dropped the ball tonight and if I were the manager I would be doing some serious staff training. I realise the negative impact bad reviews have and therefore I don't leave them lightly but tonight totally ruined a birthday party.

After having read numerous reviews about this restaurants poor service especially when dealing with large tables I can confirm that this is indeed the case.We had a table of 20 booked in for a birthday party and were told when booking we needed to pre order our meals in advance. After being seated we waited over 45 minutes with no service. At this point we were given several free garlic breads because "there was a problem in the kitchen". Only around half of our party ordered starters. It was then around ~20 minutes before starters were served.Over an hours wait before any starters we ordered were served is unacceptable especially when all of our meals were pre-ordered. Two of the waiting staff started clearing all of our party's cutlery after the starters as if we had finished completely. Other front of house members were milling around & having extended conversations when several tables required attention.The only time during the evening our party was table checked was around 1hr30mins in when I was asked if I had enjoyed my meal which took me by surprise as no-one had been served a main course yet.The food when it did arrive was hit & miss as well with several dishes being over/under cooked and a shellfish dish of which almost half was empty shells.I dislike leaving scathing reviews but the service we experienced tonight was appalling. Avoid.

Eight of us decided to go here for a lunch on my daughters 18th birthday as we couldn't book into the Martinos in Jarrow due to it being closed on a Monday.What a total disappointment!!We had originally phoned to book a table and were told it wouldnt be a problem but to ring back nearer the time to confirm numbers. When we did this we were told we couldn't book a table as the restaurant didn't open until 5pm so we would have to eat in the bar area - not a problem or so we thoughtWhen we arrived at 2.15pm it was busy but we soon got a table.We ordered drinks and food at the bar - all seemed to be going well - and that is just where it all stopped. We were left waiting for over 30 minutes for our starters, with no explanation. People who had ordered after us were served before us for no apparent reasonThe five potato skins for starters arrived and were eaten before even the three soups had materialised (and we had to try and find someone to ask where they were - no apology for explanation for the delay)The dirty pots were then left on the table for yet another lengthy period of time before the staff realised they needed to space if they were to serve our mains.The mains arrived and one dish was given to the wrong person as the member of staff didn't seem to know what they were serving.We then had to ask for parmesan, other condiments and for more cutlery.Not once was there an apology for the delay in service and by this time we had to buy more drinks because the service had been so slow. There were numerous staff around but it wasn't apparent what they were actually doing.There was then yet another delay for the deserts and pots to be cleared - the remainder of one pizza which we wanted to take home, left on the table when the deserts were served because nobody could be bothered to take it away - and it was clear that we had finished with it.The two coffees that we had ordered from the bar area did not arrive and when we could find a member of staff to ask, she then had to chase it up with the bar that we had actually paid for it!! When they arrived they were luke warm! We had to then go to the bar to ask for the pizza to be boxed up.By this time I could not wait to get out of the place - I was astounded by the complete lack of customer attention and poor service. Even a member of our party who works in the hospitality field mentioned how appalling it was.I have visited Martinos at Jarrow on numerous occasions at various times and I must say that we have never encountered this problem there. I assumed foolishly that Martinos at Seaburn would offer the same high standard of service - how wrong could I be.To say it spoiled the 18th birthday lunch would be an understatement, but it was a good job that other things we had planned over the weekend and for that day had made up for this. We eventually left at 5.15pm!!I am not one to moan or comment on these kinds of websites but I felt that I must write something on this occasion so that they can be given the opportunity to recitify this for future customers. We definitely wont be returning there and keeping our custom with the Martinos at Jarrow instead. I think you would do well to learn a lot from their high standards

Been here loads, food is nice and good value for money although I'm sure the portion of potato skins seem to get smaller and smaller. Can't complain too much though everything else is pretty much spot on

For £4.95 for two courses I didn't have a high expectation, but I was pleasantly surprised. Can't go wrong with potato skins and a pizza. My Husband had pasta which he said was fine but maybe a little bland in comparison to our favourite Italians.

Been to martinos often for coffee & always found staff pleasant & friendly so decided to have a meal today, I had carbanara which was the best I've ever had, my starter was potato skins & garlic dip, that was beautiful too, my husband had rump steak in peppercorn sauce & chips, his starter was garlic mushrooms he said both were fantastic, these 2 2 course meals & 2 pints of lager came to £23, the staff were brilliant, friendly & attentative, I would definitely recommend this place & look forward to going again

My grandkids love this place. A great place for a celebration or out for tea treat. Lots of choice and loads of room to sit and enjoy your food.

I visited here yesterday with friends and I wasn't impressed. We arrived at 6pm and we were seated whilst we waited for the rest of our group to arrive. The staff were very attentive with drinks at the start and we ordered our food at around 6.45. Starter came quite promptly and my potato skins were ok. We then waited quite a while for our mains to arrive. Since there were no staff about, I asked for a glass of water when my main arrived. This still hadn't arrived 10 minutes later. For my main I ordered penne arrabbiata with chicken added. This was quite salty so I didn't eat a lot of it. I had to shout someone over for parmesan and then again for the glass of water I was still waiting for as no one came to check on us. When we finished our main courses, these were taken away and we weren't asked about desserts. A period of time passed again with no one asking how we were even though at this point the restaurant only had a handful of tables to serve and the staff seemed to be hanging around chatting (including the assistant manager). I then had to shout someone over again for dessert menus and the man didn't even approach the table to see what I wanted and I had to shout my request across the restaurant. We then had to ask someone again to actually order the desserts. I chose the trio of desserts and this was ok but not worth £4.95 for the size of it (it was small). When they came to take the dessert plates, we quickly asked for the bill (at around 9pm) before they escaped again to ignore us. Overall the happy hour prices were not bad (even though it excludes dessert) but I think the food quality has declined from previous visits and the service definitely needs to improve.

Great value if you eat before 6.30, two courses for under a fiver, choice of starters and either pasta or pizza for main. Does get busy early evening and you sometimes have a 30+ minute wait. Excellent choice of beers, ones etc, coffee and teas served all day.

It's OK for the price, especially the happy hour. But i had to leave my food (spag bol) it was the worst I'd ever had! The mince tasted so funny. But like I say; you get what you pay for. If you're wanting a bargain meal out its ideal.

I’ve avoided this place for many years after a bad experience but decided enough time had passed to give it another go. After arriving at 6:30pm we were told they needed the table back by 8pm which we thought would be fine but after seating us, providing menus and ordering drinks we waited 25 minutes for our order to be taken. My partner ordered a starter and main and myself just a main which when we ordered he said he would bring everything out together. I was surprised by this suggestion but given the fact we now only had one hour to vacate the table and were only now ordering food we were under pressure to agree (which we did) even though his comment was a statement rather than a question. The food was enjoyable so would give it a 3 ½ if there was such an option but the service was not what I would expect from a restaurant and would have given that a 2 so I settled at a 3 overall.

Had two evening meals.Both meals were excellent particularly the fillet steak.Could not fault the service on either occasion.Impressed by the wide range of craft beers.Would not hesitate to go back

Restaurant is now much nicer after the refurb. Service was good and food was nice and it is excellent value for money when dining on the specials 2 course menu

Visited here for my sons 13th birthday. And thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff in here were fantastic and made the evening, They were attentive, funny, and great with the kids. We had starter of potato skins lovely, then pizza's all round, didn't have to wait long at all. We have visited twice now and would definitely go again.

We were turned away from the main restaurant as we hadn't booked a table for the night but were quickly found a table in the bar area. We mostly ordered pizza and were delighted with them. Will return when we're back visiting family. The staff are great.

I visited Martino's for early tea after a family outing. We went for happy hour the menu choice's were a good variety we didn't have a starters mam & dad had pasta dishes me & sister had pizza. We waited a long time after we placed our order. The food was well presented and hot. We all had a dessert which was again well presented and lovely. I would highly recommend this restaurant to my friends and family alike.

wonderful place for food with the family and very cheap. Would highly recommend this place. The kids meals are fantastic and the potato skins are mouth watering. The new décor in here is really impressive also. Definitely a nice place to take the kids. Staff are very friendly and attentive.

My family and I are regulars on a Sunday for lunch. There has recently been an updated menu (which has been fab for the kids) . Sunday lunch is always quick service and the food is gorgeous! Definitely worth a visit!

Lost our reservation, but made this up with a free drink, service a little chaotic waiting a half hour between courses and not in the right order asked for salad and bread to go with starters but got them with mains and both starters not ready at the same time watching "the pass" there seemed to be a lot of confusion, but saying that the food was yummy and the staff are fabulous will be back

Hi we go here quite often. The food is very good and is great value for money, especially as we get NHS discount. This is on our beautiful coast with great sea views and easy parking.

This is a restaurant in a prime location in Seaburn - close to the beach but not too near and with it's own car parking - the menu isn't very adventurish it sticks to the usual Margarita pizza and potato skins and in the main part feels like a school canteen when it should be much better! Take a look at it the service is good and it might just be my own opinion - enjoy

I went to Martinos on Sunday night knowing I will get nice and cheap food quickly as I been before many times. on the menu was information about happy hour on Sunday evening but when I went to order food been told hh is not available. even though I still decided to have my food. we have been waiting for starters 25 min and it was only garlic mushroom and bruschetta but that was acknowledged by manager staff so she apologised and out starters arrived soon. they were quite nice and filling so we forgave them for waiting so long. then after clearing starters we ve expected our mains to arrive soon but we waited another 35 min! so from placing the order to getting main courses was more than 1hour! and it wasn't busy at all. when the mains finally arrived my pasta was cold! I had to sent it back and when my bf asked for some Parmesan on his salmon he been told it's different protein and he won't get any! I was shocked by the waiters attitude. I work in the same business and if customer ask you for Parmesan you give him Parmesan even if he wants it in his tea! manager took my pasta back to kitchen so after 5 min it arrived again and... was still cold. I just gave up. I waited for my boyfriend to finish and we left. nobody even apologised. martinos you lost one of your regular customers.

Cheap, cheerful, great food and good service!! quite a large area, nice decor amazing specials menu and the food is full of flavour and decent size portions, highly recommended.

Used to like this place but the food portions are getting smaller number smaller by the day Need to step up martinos To much competition on you're door step

Took my mum for her birthday she enjoyed her night, staff sang happy birthday to her, also we enjoyed the food. Great atmosphere and very polite staff we will defiantly be back

Went today to have lunch with my husband and 1 year old son. I sat down with our son whole my husband parked the car. After he came in five minutes later we weren't even aknowledged. Husband asked for a high chair. Waited around some more. Husband went and got high chair himself. Waited about some more. Still not even aknowledged. So we left. Poor customer service.

Attended here for a christmas night out with work and have returned since and received the same quality service. The prices are more than fair and the food is of a good quality. Admittedly I have had better food around the area, however not for prices as good as the ones here. Staff are friendly and place has a good atmosphere.

my partner got the 16oz t bone and i got maragrita pizza and fries. we also got desert witch was also lovely brownies with warm chocolate syrup and scoop of chocolate icecream. my strawberry daiquiri drink was just amazing loldefo going back again, I loved it

Very average.. Don't go out of your way to go here. Food lacks quality. I need to say a bit more, but I don't no what else. It is very average. Probably OK for a pizza.

Really nice place staff are lovely, food was excellent especially the seafood pasta off the speciality menu. The food was excellent with great service.

We went to a family birthday meal Saturday 21st May. Table was booked for 8-15pm. We arrived for 7-30pm. All meals were pre-ordered so the restaurant had ample warning and were aware of all meals required. The table wasn`t available until after 9pm despite several requests to be seated. We were a party of 15 and Martino`s were obviously unable to cope with a large party. I would strongly advise large groups to avoid this place. When the meals eventually arrived at approximately 9-50pm some were not as described on the menu eg a vegetarian primavera pasta which had barely any vegetables in. A steak which was overcooked. Many had lost their appetites due the long wait. After the meal, I asked for the manager so I could make a complaint, but was told he was unavailable. I left my phone details for him to contact me but am still waiting. Terrible service, poor communication and no apologies. We won`t be eating here again.

Usually call in for coffee when walking on the seafront. Coffee good, staff friendly and reasonable prices

Been a few times and found the bar service spot on but the restaurant could be slow. Meals are always hot and very tasty. Kids meals have plenty of choice.

Food is beautiful however service is never consistent! I once went in and was seated at a table, she took our drinks orders, brought them back and said it would be 45 mins before we could order!!!!! We took one sip of our drinks and still had to pay for them before we left. However did return a week later with friends and food was lovely

Ordered potato skins son enjoyed them I had soup was full of flavor nice concesntey and for main we had 2 different pizza best pizzas I have had from any were will be visiting again soon plus's staff really polite

Popped in tea time. No one to seat you. Had to grab some one to ask if there was a table. They asked if we'd booked and said just find a table. My son paid to pay pool only a few balls so a waste of money. Ordered food and drinks at the bar. Hardly any of the porobello menu left so ordered from the main menu steak arrived. Again had to try and grab some one for the sides to go with the steak. Sat and waited for some one to come with Parmesan for the pasta. That didn't happen! No one came back to the table. Good was nice service let it down.

Yesterday my son took me to this restaurant located near Seaburn sea front. i was surprised to find that they served a traditional Sunday lunch the beef being chunky and excellent quality with homemade yorkshire puddings and vegetables served separate .The gravy and red wine contributed to an excellent meal which we all enjoyed.Will be returning to experience their midweek specials

Went here yesterday with a friend for some tea... Food was absolutely beautiful. For starter I got grilled goats cheese on bruschetta with peppers and caramelised onion and for main pollo crema and chips. This was by far the best Italians I have ever been to! First time I have tried here but will most definitely not be my last! Would 100% recommend this place!

We went for an evening meal and the food was excellent, but fior me there were too many kids and at my age they were a little too noisy for my liking.HOWEVER, they o have an amazing selection for kids and to be honest, the ones we saw were actually more interested in eating then messing around.

Booked a table for nine, the place was packed out and they only thought about how many bookings they could take for the restaurant area and the bar area. Waited nearly hour for the starters to come out. They then forgot to bring two starters out. Main meal came out late and we had to send one back twice and another meal was forgotten about and brought out when most people had finished their meal. We refused to pay for one meal and the manager was patronising blaming it on been a bank holiday and was very busy. We had friends who arrived after us in the bar area and were in and out quick when we pointed this out his reply was we can have a scene in the bar area but acceptable in the restaurant. Poor service, poor food will never go back. Profit before customer service.

Came here for a cheap quick meal, can't fault the prices but the food wasn't as great as it used to be. Service was extremely slow, 25 mins to make a raspberry mojito and it wasn't very busy! A lot of complaints around us from people who were waiting ages for food too. Didn't eat much of the pizza I ordered as it looked and tasted like a microwave heat up.
