Have visited this place before , but bit disappointed on this occasion. It was an anniversary meal , but they had no salmon , asked if they could do spaghetti bolognase rather than tagliatelle, but they said they did not di spaghetti! Yet when my seafood pasta arrived it was Spaghetti based !!!! The lasagna was very dry , so my wife was a bit disappointed. Also we did not arrive till about 815pm and they actually closed at 9pm so if felt very rushed with meals being served quickly. It's a shame because we have had good meals and service here before , but having used another Italian in Seaham last night , that was 100% better and more reasonably priced, so think the , Sambuca Seaham gets our vote in future.

Tuesday .We were walk ins no booking. The restaurant had quite a few covers and only 2 staff. We were greeted and taken to a table, with apologies for the wait which to be fair was only minutes. Lovely atmosphere and table setting, menu was easy to navigate with ample choice ,as was the drinks menu. We just had main courses, which were fabulous, a pizza ,and a pasta dish. Pizza was one of the best I've had in a while, the pasta dish was tasty, and not overcooked, with a nice sauce. Drinks were served in a timely manner,and both staff members were polite. Yes I'm going back, the pricing, service and food were all great.

Antico was recommended by friend`s, and we were glad they did. A Lovely restaurant with top class friendly service and wonderful food. Well worth a visit.

A pitstop on a cold wet and windy December night! Travelodge A1northbound with my 87 year old dad. What a treasure to have uncovered courtesy of Olga on reception (look after her) fabulous menu, really beautifully executed and prepared as a takeaway so willingly. I had a glass of very nice wine whilst waiting, the quality of which was reassuring and worth every penny. Thank you Si Vintage Mischief

What a lovely restaurant, the food has always been excellent and so has the service

We were staying at the hotel next door and as it was raining and blowing a gale it seemed logical to eat here. We caught the Earlybird menu and had a vere good meal at a great price. Good atmosphere and nice staff - a hit.

Visited Antico restaurant twice in three days whilst on a recent trip to Sunderland. Really enjoyable food at reasonable prices, the pasta dishes, pizzas and homemade chips are delicious. Excellent service, very welcoming staff. Would visit again.

The restaurant is beautiful and the people who are working inside are really kind and smiling. But the food was not good.. I just enjoyed the chips but that's all. I think it's a lack of seasoning.

First time visit and taking friends visiting from London. Everyone was surprised at the quality of the food, really good at reasonable price. Suroundings were a little too dark and could do with a little more lighting. The staff though very pleasant and attentive. We will definitely be visiting again in the near future.

Just had a great relaxing early sat evening meal at Antichos. Lovely mussels in a spicy tomato sauce for starters with a good pinot grigio. Very relaxing. Great service, not rushed. Took a 'doggy bag' home for our hungry son. We will be back. Might have mussels as a main next time they were so good ? Nice to have a great restaurant we can walk to. John and mairi

Went to antico for a family birthday celebration . Fantastic food beautiful surroundings the staff can't do enough for you . We will be back to this little piece of Italy.

Really good menu & venue, comfortable setup for group of 20. A fifth star would have needed better response to the unusual - my friend ordered two drinks together (soft & alcohol) & got neither quite as ordered. The waiter took my dietary query to the kitchen but forgot to pass on the answer before trying to take my order. Even so I would definitely recommend Antico for quality and atmosphere and be pleased to return.

Went last night for the early bird menu. The Salmon in sauce was beautiful. Really enjoyed the food and the service was brilliant.

Absolutely shocking food, I have never eaten should bad food. The lasagna was from a huge catering packet. The tagliatelle spagnola was Has just 4 frozen prawn Don't waste your money on this place.

We went to Antico for Christmas dinner it was perfect, such lovely and friendly staff, and the food was amazing! Large portions and absolutely delicious. The staff couldn't do enough to help and the restaurant itself is decorated beautifully! Thank you very much we will be back again! 5*

Can't fault this place at all. The food was fantastic and the staff are so friendly. Ideal place for a date night or even a celebration. Not far from local bars to even continue the night. The staff went out of there way to make my birthday even more special. This place is a hidden gem.

Not much food for the cost, but it was lovely it came to £42 for one person for a 3 course meal and half a bottle of wine

5 star atmosphere, service and food.

One of the few authentic Italian restaurant in town! We had great dinner, Martina and the rest of the staff were fantastic. The menu was Italian, the food was lovely and the presentation superb! Recommended if you want a true italian experience!!

My family and i were visiting Scotland and stopped in Sunderland on the way. We went on an amazing walk and then to antico where i had the best pasta of my life and the most gooey chocolate brownie ever. The service was great and the layout was fenominal. The only thing i didnt enjoy was the portions, normally they're too small but here they were a tad too big for a child's stomach. Other than that it was great !

1 star is being more than generous! Had a table booked during the Eat out to Help out scheme. We had an original booking which was then changed to a later booking (date and time of the call shown to the staff) to accommodate more people and therefore more money spent. We arrived at the confirmed later booking slot, waiting patiently while bar staff watched us wait around 10 minutes. At which point another customer, whom I can only assume was a friend of the manager, went and fetched said manager....... Granted it was a busy period however I did not then expect to be told that our booking had 'no showed' because a staff member had not done their job. Again, busy period these things can happen. The manager then proceeded to reiterate that we no showed despite the explanation of what had happened and the phone call to prove it. Said manager then abruptly went to serve others and provided no possible solutions to a problem they had caused themselves. This was a birthday celebration and we were more than happy to spend money at a local restaurant. Instead we ended up leaving before things possibly escalated further. Fortunately enough after calling round other restaurants in the area Bellinis were able to fit us in after a short wait. I would strongly recommend any other restaurant in SR6, there is clearly incompetency from the top which runs through the rest of the staff. No surprise the restaurant changes hands so often. I look forward to it doing so sooner rather than later.

Booked a table for me and my partner for the last night before going into lockdown, no one greeted us as we arrived so had to inform a girl on the bar that we had a table booked. We waited 15 minutes to be seated onto a big round 8 seater table so we asked if we could have a table for two but the only table left was next to the toilet which had a hideous smell. It then took 25 minutes for someone to come over and take our orders, I ordered potato skins which were rock solid, then the mains came over 30 minutes later. I ordered a lasagne and I believe it was microwaved from a previous left over it was that dry. Then it took a further 20 minutes for someone to give us our bill. In the end we got up and paid at the bar and couldn’t wait to leave, first and last ever time I will visit antico !

Great restaurant with great food

Booked a table in advance, everything was going so well, drinks, nice starters and then they totally forgot to bring our mains. Waited 1 hour 30 and asked to leave settling the bill on what we ate and drank. Not overly apologetic, nor didn't discount the bill for the bad experience which is pretty standard. Food was good but experience was awful.

Excellent food and great service.Saturday evening dinner for two. Immediate impressions were a restaurant with lovely ambience and welcoming and enthusiastic staff. The lower ground floor location makes it feel cosy and authentic and it had a lovely atmosphere.We were keen to spread-out our courses and enjoy our drinks and the excellent waiter was totally accommodating and made us feel valued and welcome. There was a really good variety of specials and the overall menu was great and well priced too.We had bread and olives alongside our starters - all superb. Our main courses were accompanied by a pizza too (big eaters!) and I had a special - sea bass. It was all delicious.The desert sharing plate was a gorgeous end to the dinner and the wine menu was also varied and good quality.The real bonus in our opinion was the friendly, attentive and skilled service from all the staff.We will be returning soon.

We love this place, the food is fantastic and the staff are soooo friendly you must try freshly made pizzas cooked right there in front of your eyes in a traditional style gas fired pizza oven..... we will definitely be back to eat again soon

We're staying at The Roker Hotel and reading the limited choice of food in the Poetic license bar we decided to try Antico and book a table. We didn't think we'd have a chance of a table on a Bank Holiday Monday but we did and after reading really mixed reviews on here we decided to try it for ourselves and we were really pleased we did. The food was absolutely delicious, fantastic service, staff were very accommodating and attentive, especially camilla who was brilliant and nothing was too much trouble! My husband even had a dessert which he rarely has! We both loved the meals, the pizzas were the best we've had in a long time. We will definitely be back!

We had an amazing evening tonight - the last Rishi discount but even without this deal the restaurant served a fab selection of dishes. Freshly cooked / well presented and delicious- what more could you ask for? Great service - yes we had that too

Our first venture inside a restaurant during these testing times. My wife rang ahead and originally booked for a meal, she was quite apprehensive, she rang back and asked if we could just keep the table for coffee and desserts, spoke to Antonio who was extremely polite and accommodating. He welcomed us into the restaurant, and gave us a table in a well spaced corner away from the main thoroughfare. All Covid guidelines were being strictly adhered to which made my wife feel at ease and we thoroughly enjoyed our short visit for desert. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere, rest assured we shall return. Highly recommended. Thank you Antonio.

We took advantage of the Eat Out to help out deal. Saved £59 off the bill.Table booked for 6 for 6.45pmGreat venue but last night the service was very slow. It took almost an hour before we had our starters. Two of our party had steaks and ordered chips but the chips didn’t arrive for approx 10 minutes after the steak was delivered.One of the steaks was not hot and was returned. We noticed that none of the plates were warm let alone hot.The pasta meals were good but sadly the steaks were not . We have eaten here on several occasions previously and never had any complaints about food or service. We felt the restaurant team were not up to speed since it had been 4 months since they would have had to deliver service to a full restaurant. Hopefully they regain their stride soon.

The food was lovely but the service was terrible had to wait an hour for our starters. Then really slow after that. Staff struggled to understand us. Left very disappointed. Offered us a drink which we said no cane over with limoncellos which we don’t like. Would not go back

Service was good.Went as a group of four - we all had a different pasta dish. Basically all tasted the same, bland & luke warm. We were all bored after three mouthfuls. It was cooked for too long, not seasoned enough, not enough flavour. Desert and starters were OK. Advice to restaurant - Please don't scrimp on the quality of your pasta. Also bring back the fire oven for the pizza, gas ovens don't do them justice.

Thoroughly enjoyed our first post lockdown foray to AnticoFrom walking in the door and being genuinely welcomed by the owner we felt confident we were going* to be looked after. The other staff were warm and friendly and we felt safe with the precautions they were taking for covid Our food was delicious in particular the sea bass special. Our dessert platter was a sight to behold. There was a great atmosphere and we thoroughly enjoyed everythingAll in all a great night at this lovely restaurant. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend anyone to go

We’ve been here a handful of times now and every time it’s gorgeous! The staff are so lovely and we’ve never had a problem with our food, we have definitely become regulars.

Ordered takeaway last night to treat my father-in-law for Father’s Day. We had 2 garlic breads (one with cheese) both delicious but I preferred the plain garlic one which was super crispy & thin. Mother-in-law just had a started of prawns, she’s a very picky eater & she loved them! The other 3 meals were different pasta dishes, not a bad word to said about them. Would definitely recommend & we are planning to visit once the restaurant is open again for a child free date night!

Table booked for twelve, staff were lovely and the place was really nice , but my meal was awful a very small piece of chicken with wet skin in what was supposed to be garlic and chilli sauce. Was just a bowl of tasteless soup accompanied by a bowl of chips which I thought were accompanying the vegetables but no. I was asked would I like chips with the chicken I didn't realise It was instead of veg ! . Other people had complained of under cooked steak after requesting well done. The dessert was lovely but It was such a disappointment for what turned out to be a great night else where. But I won't be returning here.

A good restaurant. Nice food with good service. This was a busy Friday night so lots of noise from all the tables so I had difficult hearing people at other end of table. Not really the restaurants fault but it did spoil the night a bit for me. But the food was nice and I wasn’t disappointed.

The service was second to non, staff are very friendly and professional. The food in my opinion is the best I've tasted, I had the steak (medium) cooked to perfection and the best I've tasted for a long time, better than Miller and Carter.The atmosphere is relaxing, perfect for a nice meal.Everything about the dining experience was exceptional, can't say I didn't like anything.

Visited for pre - match/birthday lunch. Restaurant is well decorated and comfortable and there was a nice greeting from members of staff. Drinks were quickly served and our orders taken. We chose from the lunchtime two courses for, I think £11.95. We ordered garlic mushrooms, bruschetta and calamari and all were excellent. Three steaks followed and were delicious. Great coffee and we were on our way to the game. Food, service and value couldn't be better.

Love the revamp. Atmosphere is greatly improved and a more homely feel. Bar staff to the left when you first enter could use a script of some sort rather than avoid eye contact and just tell you that someone else is coming soon. Or just some basic training into how to tell people to wait to be seated. Floor staff are pleasant and friendly. Menu has stayed the same if not better. Food was tasty and prices are alright, reasonable enough for the location.

We went here for an evening meal with the family. The service was excellent and attentive. The choice on the mehu is really good, with very good starters - I strongly recommend the Camamari - and excellent pasta dishes that are very reasonable at between £9 and £12. I can recommend the bolognase, the pasta with strips of steak and the prawn and chorizo pasta (my favourite). If you have room, you should try the tiramasu.Overall, an exceptional place to go and spend your evening.

Had a family lunch for 12 . Had a very intimate table for us all. It was beautifully decorated and felt very special. The food was wonderful and very good value for money . All 12 meals arrived together , the service was excellent, very attentive and friendly. We had a wonderful afternoon with no pressure for us to leave . We have been here before but we’re nit aware it had changed hands . Max was very personable and made us feel like we were at home . Can not praise them enough and made my Christmas time with my family very special. Will definitely be back and highly recommended

Booked for a wedding reception and the whole experience was amazing. The staff showed unbelievable generosity towards a young member of our group and the food is the best we have had in the area, if not ever in a restaurant. Most sincere thanks to all staff who made our day even more memorable.

6 of us visited Antico for my mam's 70th and all of us really enjoyed the food. The atmosphere in the restaurant was calm and cosy. We all had starters and main meals and each dish was tasty and well presented. The service by the staff was excellent and efficient. Will defo come back!

First time visiting this place and all I can say is I was very impressed. The staff are very friendly and regularly available to help, the manager even comes and ensures you are getting the best service possible. The food was fresh and cooked to perfection, I would happily recommend this place as they is not a lot places like this in Sunderland.

Beautiful spacious restaurant with friendly staff. The Pasta and Garlic Bread were as good as I’ve ever had. The Panacotta was superb. Now the Italian restaurant for us.

We came here for the first time for our anniversary and were not disappointed! The food was outstanding, we had a starter followed by steak which was one of the best I have eaten in a long time and the service was highly satisfactory!

The goats cheese starter was to DIE for. The pizza was gorgeous. The desert was even better. Gorgeous staff too who were so kind. Venue is stunning. A very romantic location for a date night where one can dress up or go casual. Fresh food made with quality ingredients. First time visiting as we usually go to Bellini’s but we’ve been turned.

The Antico Restaurant in the Roker Hotel Sunderland is definitely worth a visit. Nothing could be faulted, good food,good service and pleasant atmosphere. All at a reasonable cost.
