Roma Italian Restaurant in Sunderland

atrocious service. we ordered via their website at 1830 for pick up at 1905. arrived at 1900 and they took my cash payment immediately not mentioning any issues saying it wouldn’t be long. at 1915 a guy came and told me would be 20 mins. lady told me at 1940 would be 5 mins. during this time people walking out people complaining about the service and ending up either leaving or asking for food to be boxed up as they had waited so long quoting 1hr 45 mins for food. 1955 he came out again to say will be 5 mins. food came eventually at 2000 and as i left the shop the guy followed me out with a bottle of wine as an apology. when i got home food was lovely and piping hot but they should just be honest about the waiting maybe something was going on and this isn’t normal as i’ve never been here before but if they don’t tell you what’s going on then you don’t know.

Came here as a family of 3. Kids meal large (which was good) Meal was nice Not your classic Italian but food was nice! The waiter/owner (guy in his 30s/40s) was very helpful and even done a deal without us asking! Only issue was the toilet wasn’t very nice and needed a good clean and there was a dirty mop and water sitting outside the toilet which was off putting.

First visit,very impressed. Possibly the best risotto di mare I've had in years. Will definitely be going back.

We ordered the 2 course meal for delivery, we both got garlic mushrooms on the toasted bread , this was AMAZING , only problem was the bread was soggy although we both still ate it , next time I’d ask them to keep the bread separate, my wife got the Kiev pizza and I got carbonara, the pizza was a 8/10 but the carbonara was 10/10 , everything arrived pipping hot , almost like we were in the restaurant, so only the soggy toasted bread let it down but that can be rectified, it definitely won’t stop us eating there and we’d still order for delivery, been a long time since I had a nice Italian 👍

Went in for sunday dinner with my mam, aunt and cousin and it was some of the best food i’ve ever had! The staff were amazing and lovely to chat with aswell, and so generous! I will absolutely be coming here again and can’t recommend this place enough.

Absolutely disgusting selling the cheapest cut of meat as sirloin steak when it wasn't sirloin when i complained he said i will make you another i said no thankyou but be careful what you selling

Had the best filet ever, combined with Stroganoff sauce. Amazing taste and soooo tender. The chef nailed the dish. 5 out of 5 stars. The ladies had a lovely sea bass with mussels, shrimps and king prawns. All this topped up with homemade Tiramisu. We also got a complimentary cheese garlic bread/pizza as a starter. Beautiful taste. We forgot to take a picture of the food... It was that great. Great staff.

My wife and I just popped in by chance really. First time we’ve been. Service was really friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Food was excellent and good value. It’s not to far Tom where we live so can see this becoming a regular place for us to go. Really recommend highly.

Have been waiting for this restaurant which was closed over the winter. Had lunch from the lunch menu. Both of us had chicken dishes which were great quality. The portions were large so we brought some home as a treat for our dog. Will be back very soon. We understand they also do a special steak night which we intend trying. If you haven't tried give it a go. Thoroughly recommended.

Ordered three Sunday roast dinners to take out. We went for the trio of meats and our order was prepared within 35 minutes. Food was absolutely lovely, but the portion size was way too much for us to manage - a whole chicken breast, two large slices of beef and a large piece of pork each, plus ample veg and Yorkshires. The gravy was delicious. Will definitely order from here again, but maybe only two portions between the three of us next time 😊.

We attended here on Saturday 28th January. We will NOT be returning. Our main dishes were brought out before the starter plates had been taken away, the red wine was freezing, my dads pizza was wrong, the wine glass still had lipstick on, the plates that were left on the table was dirty. My son and daughter both ordered spag bol only one dish came with meat in it. My pasta was so dry it stuck to the roof of your mouth. The chips were salted within an inch of their life. The music kept being tuned up and down. There were 6 of us and everyone said the same. Totally disappointed.

Went on New Years Eve afternoon & had fabulous meal. Well cooked & piping hot. Owner couldn't do enough for us. Will definitely go again.

Was worried about the food being delivered.... Arrived piping hot and in containers. Garlic bread cheese was cold but tasted lovely. I've had arabiata many places but this one was unbearably spicy. I like spicy food but you couldn't enjoy this with too many chilli flakes etc. Carbonara lovely and garlic sauce amazing!!

I am a regular customer, but tonight was absolutely disgusting. Chips were stale, pizza had to go in oven and garlic bread to cook and melt cheese , pasta was so soggy , meatballs were days old and over cooked and freezing cold all food wow gutted is not the word

Dissapointed in last nights customer service, an hour late for delivery, rang restaurant they seemed to have no idea where delivery was, really want this place to succeed but you need to be on top of orders this is not the first time we've had delivery problems

3rd time we've been here for food (take away) and the 3rd time it has been excellent, first time surf and turf steak was cooked to perfection for both me and my partner. Second time both had pizzas again excellent, best I've had. Tonight my partner myself and grandson and his girlfriend all had great food, partner had surf and turf again, I had sea food pasta more than enough for one, grandson and his girlfriend both had pizza, would certainly recommend it and will definitely be going back, staff were great. Through out my years ive had a lot of Italians it’s my fave food is pasta my family is from Italy, I enjoyed eating it very much it was tasty, but let me tell you something, the amount of garlic in that pasta, I feel like I’ve ate a box of dulcolax, I’m corroding my walls with my garlic breath my mams told me to brush my teeth I have now 4 times, it’s took a day for the garlic smell to go from my whole house smells like Western Asia the place of its birth , and with the chilli mixed in, pwoooar I now know how kurt zoumas cat feels like, there was stuff I wanted to get done today, but booking my funeral arrangements now, I’ve had enough of toxic relationships and I don’t think this garlic will ever leave me!

Ordered king prawn main course and paid extra for salad side dish. King prawns x4 swimming in grease, no side dish (expensive for £13) and the salad I paid for didn’t arrive (until I chased it). Very disappointed however my husbands pasta and two starters were good.

For one of those rare kid free date nights I took my better half to Roma Washington and wen u don’t get many of these nights u would like it to be as special as possible which thanks to the amazing lone server and the top end quality of the food (this from me as a chef myself) from my the second we walked in the door we were made to feel at home by the kind, friendly, attentive server, we even joked that if the food was as as good as I he service we’d be sure to hav a great night and it doesn’t often happen but this occasion it certainly did the food was fantastic and generous portions had us bursting at the seams. I’d definitely return and infact can’t wait to. 11 out of 10 from me!!

Got to be the best restaurant experience we’ve had in a long, long time. We were a party of eight celebrating a birthday. The restaurant had a staffing crisis due to sickness and had to call in a young lady on her day off. In the meantime the gentleman who greeted us supplied us with gratis garlic breads. In a very short space of time the young lady arrived and immediately took complete control of the situation. She was polite, curteous and totally professional. Unfortunately I neglected to ask her name. Our food was of the highest quality and everyone enjoyed it thoroughly. Even when there was a misunderstanding with my meal it was rectified swiftly and to my complete satisfaction. High class, expensive restaurants could learn a lot from this little gem. The best surprise of all was the bill. Such reasonable prices for such quality.

Food was cooked to Absolutle perfection and not one single even tiny little thing to say negative coming from a fable of 9 people with all different dishes and starters ! Been for a sit in this evening, restaurant very small and and cosy, quiet for dining in but lots of people collecting takeout and I am not surprised because the bait was absolutely unreal. Portions massive, all 8 plates we ordered were perfectly presented and great tasting. Even the house white wine was good! Highly recommended, very reasonable prices too.

Food was absolutely delicious and such good value for money too. Only downside with our order is that our pizza boxes must have been stacked with other heavier food on top, as both boxes were caved in meaning the toppings had stuck to the lid. The food should maybe be stored a bit better when delivering it, but this didn’t stop us enjoying the food at all. Will definitely be back.

We have ordered pizzas on a regular basis over the past year but have been disappointed with our last 2 orders. Ordered a Parma Pizza which arrived with half the toppings missing, sent an email but got no reply. Tonight we thought we would try again, but were again disappointed when both pizzas were smothered in pepper. Will now be going elsewhere. It's a shame as we wanted to continue supporting a local business.

Delivery time was good. Pizza was ok, chips and potato skins went in the bin. Couldn’t work out whether they had been steamed, boiled or microwaved as they were hot but soggy. Worst potato skins I’ve ever seen. Won’t be ordering again.

Recently moved to the area and tryed roma for the first time. Everything about it was great. Easy online order then a very polite gentleman from the restaurant called me offering a bottle of free wine as we had spent over a certain amount. Delivery was quick and delivery driver polite. Will certainly look forward to visiting the restaurant for a sit in meal once circumstances (covid restrictions) are lifted.

So for the first time tonight me and my husband decided to order, we've never ate from the Washington restaurant but love the one in Sunderland infact that much we named one of our tables at our wedding after them. Unfortunately it's sad to say and such a shame that we are so disappointed in the quality of the food. For starters we got garlic bread with cheese, was ok! Gamberoni with tomato and chilli, the taste was ok but the prawns were mushy! Potato skins and garlic not to bad (edible) for the main we had steak (medium) with pancetta sauce and dela cassa steak (medium) one with chips and one with salad not sure I've ever tasted steak like it both well over done and very odd color to it, it was almost white around the edges and dark in the middle and that was both steaks not just the one. I'm not normally a one to write negative reviews but when you've just spent over £40 and ate pretty much none of it you almost feel robbed! So unfortunately we will not be returning to the Washington shop again

Very disappointed after reading the good reviews, food arrived on time which was a good start but we had to reheat it all which isn’t very romantic for our anniversary, on Saturday 16th May, also supposed to get a free bottle of wine with orders over £35, when we realised it wasn’t in the bag we rang a few times that night and left a message on their Facebook page and 3 days later still haven’t heard anything back.

Unexpected circumstances led us here. From the outside it doesn't look like much. The prices are very good and quite a good selection with some specials. We both got the linguine carbonara. It was cooked to perfection and very tasty. The staff are nice and friendly. We will definitely be returning!

Came here for something different on a Sunday lunchtime. We had the king prawns and muscles in tomato chilli sauce, which was a special. Excellent! I had the best calzone pizza I have had in a very long time. Again, Excellent. My daughter had a pizza, with chips which was excellent. There’s no alcohol sales at the moment so grab something to drink if you want from down the street. It was busy but not full and I suspect that, and I hope so, it will be busy in the future. Well priced, well cooked fresh ingredients. Definitely a cut above what else is offered in Washington. The whole place felt like a little taverna in Italy, where the food is definitely the star. High recommended and a must try for anyone.
