Lovely friendly pub and good food x

Great dog friendly pub that does some good vegan choices, would like a vegan option for a roast though, maybe the tart that is already on the menu but instead of salad, mixed vegetables would be excellent, and gravey.

Absolutely lovely food, will be back again

Located between Barnsley and A1 with easy access. Several seating areas, inside and out, and dog friendly. The staff were very welcoming and we were checked on by several staff. Good choice of food on the menu. The carvery was popular. Reasonable prices.

Busy Sunday lunch. Had a reservation so seated immediately. Prompt and efficient service. Lovely host gave us a meal for the dog as well. Food was delivered quickly and was very nice. Sundae puddings were excellent.

A good place to go for a meal. A pleasant restaurant/ public house just before you get to the A1.

We booked a table 5 days prior to today. When we arrived, we were shown to a small bar table with two stools for three of us. I sat next to the table and was expected to eat off of my knee ! When we raised this issue to the staff, that my elderly grandmother couldn’t sit on a bar stool they were less than helpful, with the standard excuse “ we are busy” and “ we can’t move any chairs as they will block the fire exit” We left and went to the Newton arms in Sprotbrough. We were spoilt with a table and suitable chairs. Haha.

Me and my partner booked for a sunday carvery,frozen veg which was all mushy,stuffing balls inedable as they were that hard,parsnips were burnt meat was dry,yorkshire pudding like rubber,absolutely awful dinner,you would expect something better than this.left hardly ate anything,lady on the front who greats you with the red hair realy needs to polish up on her customer service skill as she has none,wouldn't recommend to anyone

First time I've have been the food was outstanding the staff really friendly shall be going back again really soon

I came here on Sunday with my friends for a carvery and a pint, I belive this place is much better than most carvery places in doncaster with a vast selection of Suday roast items to chose from, the service was great however the carvery meat was slightly dry and the pork was quite fatty. Overall great place for a carvery and a chill minuet.

Unfortunately, I can't say anything about it because I wasn't inside or spent any time there

Good food. Fast service from waitress. Fair priced. Would have returned time and time again if it wasn't for the woman with the red hair. Very rude and not appropriate to discriminate and challenge my disabled partner.

Pleasant place, nice staff but food was average. Over cooked and greasy chips. Nice beer garden.

Came for tea, and it was lovely. We had the steak platter and our steaks were cooked to prefection. Think this meal should go on there menu.. 😀

Carvery OK but vegetables a little tired to say it was early in service.Good meat portion and lady serving was very cheerful and pleasant.After meal coffee ridiculously weak.and tasteless. Overall OK for price.

Hey, so we are really late with our review! We came for Christmas dinner & we were left a more than a little disappointed... Firstly, we book in August. We got a phone call in September that we needed to pay the deposit, not an issue were busy this week we'll pop in next week and pay it... they demanded it was paid by Friday, or they would cancel our booking, so we went in that day to pay & they didn't even know how to take the payment. We had to pay via banks transfer. We asked when the balance was due and were told it was due a week before Christmas. We got another phone call in early November, this was a on the Tuesday demanding payment by Thursday or our booking would be cancelled... I was actually working away that week & had to send someone to pay. Honestly with their attitudes I don't know why didn't just cancel it but anyway we then get a phone call a few weeks later if we don't pay the balance by Friday our booking with be cancelled... we already paid in full! Thankfully, we still had the receipt & gave them the information, even with that it took 3 phones call for this to be sorted out. We got to Marr Lodge a little early on Christmas Day & they seated us immediately, no table service (which you don't normally get there but it was Christmas Day & for the price tag you'd expect) by the time we got drinks, our starters had been delivered. Then in contrast it took nearly an hour for the main course to arrive, we got enough frozen broccoli, cauliflower & brussel sprouts to feed 10 people & no carrots, When the table next to ours got their food we realised they just hadn't delivered us any carrots. The meat was poor quality, in fact the whole meal was. The pigs in blanket were burnt and there just wasn't anything special about it, even the crackers were lackluster. Where was some braised red cabbage, roast veg, white sauce, anything to make it special? We made the most of it & didn't complain as it was Christmas Day but we'd never return for a special event again after this experience.

Just been to have a meal for 4, 2 had the Doncaster Burger. 1 had the homemade steak pie. 1 had the BBQ Lentil burger.. generous portions and beautifully cooked. All arrived together within 15 minutes. Staff lovely and friendly and we will definately be going again..well done !

Avoid the fish pie! Tiny bits of fish lost under sloppy cheesy mash thickly topped with more melted cheese. “Seasonal veg” was simply over cooked carrots and bullet dry peas. Worst meal out ever.

Really nice. It's a while since we have been here it used to be a bit posh and felt uncomfortable but now it has nice food, nice staff and a great atmosphere. Will definitely go again.

Staff made you very welcome and they were very polite the meals we had were worth the money and we will be back .

My favourite place to have a carvery. Choice of meats that are cut nicely (other places are often tight and its wafer thin) Great selection of veg and super tasty gravy. Pleasant staff and nice surroundings.

Alright experience, expensive drinks, kids meals are really nice. Tables far too big for seating areas and chairs jammed into fire exit handles. Can't go round with some of the adult meals as well on offer

Decent pub with a decent lunchtime menu. Cask cider was a bonus. Greeted by a cat that had the run of the pub. Not sure about that.

Meals we wanted not available, enchiladas were dry and sharing platter starter overcooked.

Not blown away with the checking in service told we only had a certain length of time to eat our meal but when the time was up the place was nearly empty.

We went for a family meal, eight including a toddler. All had three courses from the christmas fayre menu. Food was excellent, large portions and very good value. Would recommend this menu. Nice, friendly and good service

Very disappointed with the booking process. No option to book on their website. Contacted via Facebook on the 13th of November to eat on the 19th of November. Was told that it was no problem and the table for 5 was booked. Turned up to be told that the message hadn't been passed on and we could have a table for one hour or not at all. This was supposed to be a belated birthday meal for me dad so we were planning on having starters, mains and desserts so 1 hour was not enough time.

Randomly stopped here on the way home from York. The food was really good and the prices were good too. It was a Tuesday night, so quite quiet.

The food wasn't the best I've had and I probably would eat there again(if someone else was paying) and its not very pleasant if you have a sight problem, a few steps around the place and dimly lit. The staff though. Realy pleasant and polite, checked how the meal was going etc.

Went for a sunday carvery at 2pm. You get a max of 1.5hr for your table booking, and there was a que throughout for the carvery. Choice of 3 plate sizes available small 9.99 regular 11.99 or premium 12.99. We pre booked a table, knowing from past experience they are always really busy for sunday lunch. Lovely helpful staff on hand for anything you need. They are really assertive and all have a smile on their faces, which is always good to see. Choice of beef, pork, or gammon, or a selection of 2 different homemade pies if you prefer. We all had regular size carvery, which was a good plate full. The meat was delicious with a generous portion served, the roast potatoes and parsnips were not so good, tasted like ready made frozen ones, the parsnips were hard in the middle, and roast potatoes were tasteless. The vegetables were cooked nicely. Gravy was a little too watery. Overall though it's a nice warm and friendly atmosphere with good staff. Booking was for 4 adults, and the total bill came to just short of £60 for 4 regular carvery's, 1 pint of larger and 3 pints of diet coke.

When we arrived, the premises looked a bit shabby so I was dubious but we received a warm welcome and it was fairly busy- a good sign. There was a good choice of food on the menu( except for vegetarians) and the carvery was excellent. It was incredibly good value for money and in the end, we all enjoyed a delicious, home cooked lunch!

The main meals were fine but the kids cheese burger was too hard to bit into .

Food was very nice with plenty to choose from, the carvery look delicious. The staff were pleasant enough but too rushed off their feet to make any sort of conversation.

Staff were lovely. I had nachos for starters, that has only cheese on the top and the rest was dry nachos, which seemed to have sat on the side while waiting for the other food to arrive.

Enjoyable food nice bar area only fault only given1hr 30minutes to queue up for food sit down and eat it .

Carvery was beautiful been just melted in mouth. Felt very rushed even though we had booked a table we were rather rudely informed before we sat down they needed the table back for a certain time which I felt was unnecessary and let down the experience

5 tables in the restaurant at use, the rest of the place was empty but still took an hour to receive food. When it did arrive, it was cold, the portion size you would give to a child and salad which looked like it should have been binned a week ago. Politely informed the staff to then be ignored

A decent pub restaurant halfway between Barnsley and Doncaster the food was of a good standard drinks were reasonably priced & the staff were friendly however unless you live in the village a taxi or bus ride is necessary because the distance between towns would mean quite a long walk.

Rude manager, only 1 hour 30 mins for table not long enough if you want coffee or further drink after meal, food not good, fish out of a packet, will not be going there again.

Great atmosphere, carvery was incredible, not shy on the meat there was plenty, parking was a little difficult but still a great place to visit for carvery

Booked as a party of 8, staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious, everyone commented on how they enjoyed it. Even our 7 and 4 year olds cleared their plate. I would certainly recommend.

Nice outside area and good food

Booked a table in advance for 12.30 was told to be gone by 2 which is fine as its Sunday lunch time. The waitress cleared our plates while my 4 year old was still eating his (literally) when we said something she put the plate back but by this point my plate had already been put onto of his dinner. We was offered a refund which I am grateful of but declined and was then told to leave at 13.40 with drinks that still needed drinking. Way too busy took 45 minutes queuing for the carvery to be told we're on a timer before we have to leave. Never again I'm afraid

Well this was our first visit,and we was not disappointed from friendly staff to great food, and the added bonus it being dog friendly and he was spoilt. Got to say it won't be our last visit thankyou

Ordered the 16 oz steak. What a mistake!!! It came as two steaks. I asked for medium done. One steak was ok but grisely. The other was burnt (it tasted like it came out of a bonfire)and after two bites I couldn't eat it! I complained to the barmaid. She told the cook and he didn't have the manners to come out and discuss it. I told her that it was a discrace. I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone!!. The place itself is very run down and shabby. The table varnish has almost gone and the seats are dirty and greasy and covered in spilled drink stains. The toilets entrance door is brown with greasy hands on the door. Don't go there and waste your hard earned money!!

Abysmal. I’ve been here once before and the food wasn’t great so I decided to give it one more chance and took the Mrs here for dinner, the food tonight was shocking. The chips were frozen ones that I could have done myself with some Mcain Asda specials and the pie was rock solid and dry, whilst the meat inside was as tough as old boots. When the lady came to take my pie away she asked why i’d not eaten it, I told her that it was dry and tough, she told me I should have told her but no one ever came over to ask how our meals were in the first place for me to do this. £40 down the pan. Will never set foot in there again.

Disappointed as said carvery Monday to Saturday but went 6pm last night to be told it's only until 2.30pm. Doesnt say that on board outside or website. Also had braised steak which was half slice steak for £11.99 overpriced. Ashame as normally ok

visited a few times now with friends and the wife. Carvery is good and tried the main menu on a return visit. Everyone enjoyed there food the staff are polite and friendly, plenty of parking with a nice atmosphere. Well worth a visit if your passing

No carvery on so settled for mixed grill, everything was well over cooked and dry sausage looked like it was warmed up from breakfast ,poor meal . On the other hand the home made pie was excellent and very filling so wife was happy . Plenty of parking with play area ,beer was good staff nice just a shame about the mixed grill

Saturday afternoon, the staff was great helpful and friendly, the starters was all lovely however the mains was not, hoisin beef, marr burger and 8 0z rump steak with pepper corn sauce, the steak tasted like just pure gristle and the sauce was like water, the hoisin beef was very chewy and no flavour, and last the marr burger… It felt like it had sat on the grill about 10 mins to long, was just a basic cheeseburger so really shouldn’t be that hard to get right, the meal cost £65 including 3 drinks so I expected better, it’s a shame as last time we eat was sep 2020 and the food was amazing, the 3 stars we gave is for the staff

Used to be ok here a few years ago. Good bit... the staff are nice, proffesional and friendly but that's as good as it gets. Been a few times and I've got to say food has dropped in quality, chairs are dirty and worn to death especially the table for 2 near the kitchen door, food just bland and this time we both left our food and walked out. Shame, might be good to some but haven't been for a few months as the last time we came it wasn't good and then tried again today and it was worse. Always busy though so might be me and the people I go with but can't deny it needs a good refresh on the chairs etc. Update, been a long while since returning after last review, came today and have to say not got better and the lady with the 'karen' haircut (red hair) not only was she rude and intrusive but she has an aura that trails behind her and it isn't good. Had to leave table by 2pm .... 45 minutes later another table had to leave by 2pm, I understand your busy but paying customers should be allowed more than 1 hour to queue up, get food, get drinks, eat said food have a natter for 10 mins to let dinner settle and finish drinks then leave ... they're your paying customers don't treat em like cattle you silly sod, your not that special. Ps why is everything cooked to the same consistency/density as mash potatoes everything is "sloppy and soft" it's like eating a stew when all on the plate and that's before introducing the gravy (although gravy is bloody nice mind). Bloke who served us at the meat station was nice and friendly but rest of staff looked defeated, I wonder if that's to do with the red haired gestapo woman.

My wife and I went for a meal around tea time and I have to say a massive thank you to all the staff each individual waitress was friendly polite and very helpful and as for the food it was delicious easily the best gammon steak I have taste in a restaurant gorgeous..compared to some restaurants where the menu is limited the Marr lodge has plenty of options and they all sound delicious thank you guys will definitely be visiting again 10/10
