Marple Spice in Stockport

Ordered a take away. One of the more expensive ones in Marple. No care with the food. Bland and watery. Tiger prawns were little frozen cheap prawns. Chapati were raw in centres. Rice was like microwave rice. In the bin. Avoid and go to Gulchan take away. Sorry I tried this place.

Original and well balanced menu, including a good choice of vegetarian and fish dishes. The menu advertises that food is cooked without excessive oil — and the result is a meal that is satisfying but not at all heavy. Unusually, the dessert menu has a very good kulfi ice cream, in an attractive pot that you can take home if you ask nicely. This has become one of our go-to restaurants in Marple.

This was our first trip to Marple Spice since it reopened & it was a delightful experience. Comfortable surroundings, friendly efficient staff & excellent food. So good that we are going again this week.

We’ve been a few times since it’s reopened. It’s modern and clean and has a great atmosphere. The food is delicious and the staff are brilliant. Would highly recommend.

The food was lovely especially the kale onion bhajis. There were lots of veggie and vegan options. The staff were friendly and helpful. And the decor was really nice (great lighting box made by one of the owners).

After the horrendous and tragic events that beset the team at Marple Spice, we were sad but not surprised when it closed for a while this summer. So excited then when it reopened tonight, complete with online takeaway booking. Of course the new systems meant a very slight delay in our order, but the 20% offer and AMAZING fresh food more than made up for it, which I’m hoping the rude and unreasonable customer before me will have realised. Friendly staff, clean surroundings and beautiful food. Dare I say even better than before? Thank you Marple Spice. We’ve had a lovely meal.

I have tried for 3 days to contact thos restaurant. 28 phone calls. It rings...no answer...ring again...engaged...ring again ..rings for ever then cuts off. Impossible to make contact

Unfortunately rather tasteless curries, rock hard onion bhajis and thin stale tasting naan bread. Didn’t seem freshly cooked, won’t return.

Had a fantastic Christmas lunch . Food was amazing; quality and the portions huge. From traditional Christmas dinner to steaks and Indian chicken and mixed starters, everything was excellent . Served by very polite and attentive staff. We couldn’t have asked for a better meal . Thank you so much

Not been to Marple Spice for a few years. Got together with friends for an early evening meal on Friday. The interior has been totally refurbished it was clean and tastefully decorated. All the furniture appeared new. The service and food was excellent. The best Indian we’ve had for some time. It couldn’t be faulted. Fab. 5 stars

The food here is absolutely delicious have tried various dishes over the past 6 months & absolutely love all of them & delivery is a bonus would definitely recommend marple spice it has a amazing menu & not over priced great value for a fabulous meal. Can't wait to actually eat in the restaurant will definitely be booking.

Delicious food. Ordered the chicken till balti with pashwari naan. Great deals especially on a Sunday. Very quick service. Highly recommend

Had a take away for the first time on Saturday night; we normally eat in the restaurant but these are strange times - the food was as good as ever. Delicious starters (my favourite is the vegetarian platter), main courses lovely and hot and the naan breads fresh as always. Will definitely be using the take away service again but can't wait until life returns to normal and we can visit the restaurant again.

Eaten in before and it was ok Had a takeaway tonight and it was awful. I asked what the Bangladeshi fish was on the Mach dish was and he said cod! Well it was the strangest cod I’ve ever seen and tasted! The rice was dry and horrible. Would not use again. Very disappointed.

Great service, friendly environment, great food and warm welcome. What more do you need on a December night

We've eaten here several times before but not for a while until llast week and it's always good. This time we dined early evening, the foof was excellent and the service first class. We'll be back.

We had a take out from here when having the in laws over. Every dish we ordered was really good. Fresh, good quality ingredients and reasonably price.

Good menu with lots of Gluten Free options. Meal was very tasty. Pleasant staff. Tables a little close but makes for plenty of atmosphere

We always enjoy the quality of the food at Marple Spice. The food is never oily and the service is very good. Very good value for money.

Sadly, under new management and good not as good. Greasy populations to make just one disappointment. Tried it a couple of times but no longer willing to use.

Visited last week. Lovely, compact and clean. Great service, very good Lamb Madras, and excellent Keema pilau. Would visit again.

The service is amazing the waiters are really nice and child friendly. The food is delicious. The takeaways are just as good as they are in the restaurant. The atmosphere is good. I recommend the chicken tikka, the naan, the mango chutney, the popadoms, the the puddings I could go on forever.

Been here a few times over the past couple of years. Always had lovely food. Good service and reasonably priced. Varied menu.

I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant. We ate her for a birthday celebration on a Monday evening. We were the only ones in the restaurant the entire time.

I had a take-away from here earlier in the year and...well...I was disappointed and thought it average for the price. My friends said "...oh, it's much better when you actually eat there...". Well, they were correct. I had a great curry, great service and great atmosphere. A bit pricey, but them, I am known for being a cheap skate lol

Nice little curry house with friendly staff and a really varied menu with some unusual dishes. clearly take a bit of pride in doing good separate dishes rather than the usual mix. Efficient quick service. All round a good place.

My 2 mates and I meet every 6 weeks or so, have a few beers and then have a meal which is normally a curry. We value great food and good service.

Visited the restaurant on a Sunday so selected from the Sunday Special Menu.

Last night I paid for my takeaway by card (contactless). The card was taken from me and presented to the machine with the security strip upwards, meaning that the security number could be read. I requested a copy of the receipt and it contains the full 16-digit card number and the expiry date. No difficult matter then the marry the security number to the other details. Can Marple Spice please provide reassurance to its customers in this matter?

We visited on a Saturday evening as a party of four and had the mixed starters and four mains with rice and naan. The food was tasty as usual and the service efficient. The butter chicken was very good.

Love to eat here -the food is amazing! Popular so can be a bit cramped at the weekends. Both food and drink are reasonably priced and staff are friendly.

This is our Saturday night take away treat. Love going here to order the food and have a pint while waiting. Staff are friendly and helpful and the food is amazing. Cannot understand any of the negative comments.

Went last night with my wife, a little trepidation because since moving this way we've found other Indian restaurants round here a bit average (being polite!)

Four of us visited. We hadnt booked but we managed to get a table. Food was fine, staff friendly and good value. It wasnt going to be our first choice but turned out to be a good meal. We had the Chef signature dishes.

Four of us visited last week - 2 adults and 2 teenagers. The restaurant was quite busy. We found the service was fine, the food was tasty and we all enjoyed it. We will definitely be going back as it's convenient.

We have been visiting Marple Spice for years and always been impressed with the quality and consistency of the food but our last four visits have seen a definite decline. At first it was obvious the front of house staff had changed but the food tasted the same so no problem we thought but each visit has been gradually worse, on our most recent visit the quality of the food was entirely different, smaller portions, tiny slithers of chicken in the curries and the cod starter which used to big chunks of tasty white fish was small pieces of grey/brown fish in a soggy wet marinade, the lamb shashlik was the same, slimy wet marinade as if the meat hadn't been grilled/cooked long enough. Sadly don't think we will be returning.

Service was poor, was not particularly friendly I think it was because we had children with us. Starter I ordered garlic mushrooms it was wet and sloppy like the mushrooms were from a can....tasteless. Drinks were flat,the main I had a mouthful of rice and some korma so asked if they could put it in a take away dish for me to have at home, they took it away and brought back a quarter of it in a small take away dish. My partner said his starter was dismal but main nice. We had to ask staff several times for cutlery, to take our order, ice cream for kids oh and when we got in we had to wait ages for a high chair,when it came it was dirty. We were a table of 11 so expect some wait but to be fair food came out quick enough. One think that really annoyed me is, they like to self tip . Our bill was £46 & my other half gave them £50 at till the guy took money from my partner and as my partner waited for his change he was gobsmacked the guy put the £4 change in the tip tin. The waiter then said to my partner "yeah" my partner annoyed said to him I am awaiting my change the waiter huffed at him and as the tin was locked had to get it from the till. Now my partner would of tipped if it was good service but it was substandard and food not much better. Now I dont usually write feedback but I am really annoyed!!!

Marple spice are a brilliant local curry house. I booked them fairly last minute to host my 30th birthday meal...

This was a great little find. didn't book but they fitted us in. Staff were amazing, very friendly service. Food was great and not too expensive. I would definitely recommend it to others.

We've used Marple Spice a few times now. To be fair, my first impression was that it was a little lack lustre despite being highly recommended by our son who took us there. Food was just OK on that occasion, nothing to shout about.We've used it twice since then and those two occasions lived up to our son's high recommendations. We were returning home after an event on a Sunday evening and the other local restaurants had shut their kitchens. Deciding to give it another try, we were extremely happy this time and they do some great deals of a Sunday evening. After redeeming themselves we've been back and also used their takeaway service.Great customer service and a good selection of tasty food with a lot of effort made to ensure it's not just the same old same old Chicken Tikka Masala to adhere to the market forces of the unimaginative British come-out-of-the-pub posse (they do it, but there's plenty of other stuff you wont find elsewhere there too).

We visited on the basis of other reviews ( and also checked the hygiene ratings -4-) and had a good meal, the mains were indeed generous ( we were glad we just had a couple of popodums and no starters), the food tasty, service was polite and prompt. The place wasn't overcrowded despite it being Friday evening. We would go again.

With a group of friends for a social occassion we had a really comfortable and relaxing experience. The food and service was great, the waiters were attentive without being intrusive and the price was extreamley reasonable.

Another curry restaurant, which was very good without be outstanding, the Arachi I had was okay needed something, but I'm not sure what. The tandoori fish was a little over cooked but nicely spiced. The nan bread was well done if a little small

We went to Marple Spice a couple of weeks ago and it was early evening and fairly quiet. Whilst the menu seemed much the same, all of the front of house staff were different and we didn't recognise anyone. I ordered a beef Jalfrezi and my wife had Vegetable Korahi and both dishes were very tasty / well cooked as were the accompanying dishes. The service was fine and quite frankly I couldn't really fault it. Whilst there I asked if the restaurant had changed hands and was told that the owner and kitchen staff were the same but that front of house staff were all changed. This seemed a little improbable to me but you make you mind up. What I can tell you is that we enjoyed our meal and the service was fine and we will eat there again.

I very rarely leave bad reviews on here but considering how good this place is supposed to be reading the other reviews I felt compelled to.The meal I had recently was not great at all! the curry was extremely bland and watery with no real taste or flavour rice was fine but difficult to get wrong, The chips were dripping in fat.Im sorry but I won't be returning.

Tasty takeaway and child-friendly sit-down restaurant. Good range of fish curries and the kids demolish their butter chicken very happily.

Tried this restaurant recently and was not disappointed. The food was excellent And the portions are on the substantial side so even those with the biggest appetites won't be disappointed. Having said that I wish we had shared one portion of rice instead of two. The menu choice is extensive (hard to choose really) and the curries were excellent. Its only small restaurant so booking is advisable as it's very popular. Service was exceptional and all the staff were very attentive. Will definitely be going back.

Called in on way home from night out in Marple. Nice welcome on the way in and shown to a table immediately, service is excellent and staff attentive. A well decorated modern Indian restaurant. Food was fantastic, wth some excellent beer and a comprehensive wine list. Well worth a visit and would definitely return.

We ate here a couple of weeks ago for the first time. It is a small restaurant with a nice atmosphere. There were plenty of dished tp choose from and all the food was lovely. The staff are friendly and make you feel very welcome.A good little find.

Busy on a Saturday evening but very good attentive service. Mains a bit pricey, but breads, rice and popadoms more reasonable. Well worth a visit.

Me and my family have been visiting this restaurant for years. We have never had a bad experience and always thoroughly enjoy it. The menu has a fantastic selection of great dishes, the chefs specials are exceptional. All the staff go above and beyond to make all customers feel welcome, and are always extremely friendly. My 9 year old nephew loves it here and constantly asks to go, this is down to the fact that the waiters have a good laugh with him and make it a fun experience. I just want to say a huge thank you to you all, keep up the amazing work you all do. Best curry house around, I can honestly say I've never found a better restaurant. ThanksAimee and Stewart

I am surprised this does not a higher ranking considering its review profile. I had a really enjoyable visit to Marple Spice. I was warmly welcomed, and service was very professional and helpful at all times. The meal was also excellent, my choice being an unusual sweet curry with honey and yogurt. The interior and general ambience also helped to make it a very pleasant experience.

Just had a Sunday special. Shared a great selection of starters and mains from the menu. Enjoyed them all. Plenty of food all nicely cooked. Friendly staff.

Ive been told by a family friend about the Marple Spice restaurant for some time but Im very funny about trying out new places as I tend to stick with good local restaurants when I find them. I've go to say that it was one of the best restaurant served chicken tikka madrases I've had in a long time and great service as well.The Marple Spice restaurant is a little on the small side but as we were in a large group we did have any problems with space on our table.I would definitely visit this restaurant again and also order takeaways from them.Looking at the other reviews I think it would be wise to pre-book your table.

We have eaten here a few times now. And each time has been better than the last. The atmosphere is lovely and the staff are fantastic! The food is amazing with plenty of options, it is very fragrant and authentic.

We visit Marple Spice fairly frequently - two or three times a month. Food is always delicious - wide range of different dishes from mild to very spicy, vegetarian and meat. Friendly, welcoming staff and efficient service. Thanks to all.

This is a fairly cramped restaurant, with the upstairs anteroom unusually furnished including an old computer, chess board and some "Bright furniture". The upstairs dining area is cramped, I do not enjoy being bumped during my meal. The service was extremely slow taking nearly and hour and a quarter to get served. The food is average, at the high price end for a curry from this grade of restaurant. Wine and beer as expected.The staff were very pleasant but they cannot overcome the problems above. Hi, we've used Marple spice as a takeaway for many years. We think the food is great. Unfortunately last night when we ordered a delivery, the man who took our order was really rude. Very abrupt, aggressive and patronising. He told us they no longer took card payments over the phone or cheques but said he would accept a cheque this time but never again. Because this man was vile we will go elsewhere.

We have recently moved away from Marple but when we lived there this was our favourite eatery. The staff were fantastic at looking after us, especially our 3 year old, and we never had a bad meal there. We miss the food very much!

Very enjoyable evening. Staff friendly and attentive. Interesting menu and the food was excellent. It does get busy though so best to book.

An excellent restaurant friendly staff and good food a t a reasonable price.We used to go to the spice tower but they spoilt us by opening this one in Marple.

The whole family were disappointed after we ordered a take out curry expecting a tasty night in. This was not the case however as every single curry had a severe lack of meat in and too much sauce, making our currys more like soup. The chapatis were too thick and dense making them difficult to swallow and in general there was a lack of spice ... Something you don't expect from 'Marple Spice'. Would not recommend as most of the meal ended up in the bin.

First time for us in this local restaurant. Took ages to be seated. Chaotic on arrival. We were seated upstairs. Cold. No atmosphere. No background music. Bright light. Shabby dated interior. Toilets not great. Food below par. Expensive for standard received really. Wouldn't go again as there are much better local alternatives (Purple Pakora, Indigo or Ankorsaul).

A very enjoyable evening with a wide variety of of Asian food my particular favourite is the chicken naga A nice fiery chilli dish I dare you to try it must go again soon

This is one of our favourite curry houses in the area! The food is always of a very high standard; tasty, plenty of it, reasonably priced. The staff are very efficient, friendly and happy to help. The service is quick and you don't wait long between courses, which is great. Definitely worth a visit! Would highly recommend the Madras; perfect balance of taste and spice.

Our daughter was visiting from down south so decided to try this local restaurant for the first time. Friendly and efficient service. The food was of a high standard, delicious and piping hot. What more could you ask for.

We ordered our first takeaway from here today. We was not disappointed. The food was nice even my daughter had some and doesn't like curries. She said she loved it. Will have to sit in next time.

Nice curry we decided to go here as we could smell the garlic from the canal boat as we were coming up through Marley locks, Great service and food. Fairly priced we had starters which were good seek kebab, chicken pakora, mains were honey duck, chicken balti and chicken pathia, The rice was lovely, nice big portions and great excellent nam bread, great service keep up the good work.

Sunday night is usually a good meal at this restaurant and I have no complaints usually.. However... It failed.We had the usual set meals and popsdoms and starters were good, the waiter brought out the wrong main meals to our table before we had the starters which were quickly taken to the right table.The rice was over cooked and hard, when you put it with the curry it and started eating it was like pudding rice... Select quite s not if out food and complained to the waiter who looked at the rice and squeezed it between his thumb and finger before taking our dishes away, no apologies or explanation... We paid and left... Sorry but it was not the usual high standards expected from this place.

Came down to Marple spice with the family to have something to eat. The chicken naga spice was to die for! The lads are amazing had some great banter and the prices are reasonable. Will be back next time I'm in Marple.

Just turned up midweek and table availableStaff were very friendly and were able to make suggestions from the menu The food came and we were not disappointed We had tasty food and plenty We were not rushed and as the restaurant cleared not made to feel we must leave. All area was clean and the room was at first loud with diners there is additional seating upstairs available. A good time was had by all Varied menu and all drinks available

A group of 6 of us recently ate here and can only extol the virtues of such a great Indian restaurant. Not only great value but also able to offer a menu, ambience and service that is just that bit better than anywhere similar within a 10 mile radius in my opinion. The only negative comment would be the speed with which the drinks are supplied, but providing you ordered ahead of time this removed the problem.

Visited with friends on a Saturday night. Even though they were very busy, you were made to feel welcome. The waiters are attentive and quite amusing at times. Great food, we all had different courses and mine was the Prawn Chefs Special....absolutely superbFeel free to ask questions, they wil give you all the information on everything on the menu. We will begoing again.

This is such a wonderful restraunt. Food and service is excellent and so clean and fresh. Great for midweek and weekend meals. Special offers on a Sunday. The staff are really friendly and very helpful when you need to know what to choose from thier extensive menu.

Sunday nights are usually take away nights here. This time we chose this restaurant with the £10.90 option A person take away menu.If you order and pick the take away up you get a free bottle of Cobra, or you can have it delivered free minus beer of course.Again the food was spot on and the portions are large, you can easily get two meals out of each portion.This is a good place to also dine in as well. Highly recommended.

After deciding to change from our usual regular local curry house. We decided to try our luck with the Marple spice and we Weren't disappointed. The takeaway menu had plenty of variety and well priced. As soon as the food arrived you could tell it was freshly made (no grease etc).Once we tucked in you could taste all the spices and flavour. It was lovely. We will try the eat in menu next time that's how highly we rated the food.

Food quality here is very good, certainly much better than average. The only downside (!) was in paying them - I asked for the bill twice, then decided the only way to get one was to walk slowly towards the door! I got one, then had to wait for ages waving a credit card to actually pay. Maybe victims of their own success, as they were very busy -because the food was really good!

Very quite when we went only 2 tables being used.Good value for money but not a great selection to choose from as in if you wanted to try more exotic dishes .You can choose up to the value on certain starters and main courses which is just the basic starters and curries.Over all good sized portions and tasty food, well worth visiting.

Marple Spice do a great Sunday Set Menu and the place is usually packed. All four of us enjoyed our meal and we will be returning, thank you!

We order a take away most Saturdays and eat in the restaurant a few times a year. The food is always great, the service is brilliant and it's the best curry house in Marple and surrounding area :)

The restaurant was,soon after we arrived, full - a good sign since it shows that people like to eat there. The service was by good (friendly and extremely efficient) and the quality of the meal was high with a wide range of dishes on offer. Marple Spice is a very clean, well presented and well run establishment which contributes greatly to the restaurant culture of the town.

Everything here is spot on, I am a regular because of the food, service and prices. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff, who go the extra mile every time.The food is always hot, there is never too much or too little spice and heat and the take aways are every bit as good as the meals at the table.If you are looking for a good curry then Marple Spice is a must.
