Marks & Spencer Cafe in West Berkshire

Very Disappointed with cafe in Sturry. Staff attitude poor. We picked up sandwiches for toasting and were told that no hot food after 3pm. It was 2 mins past having queued for ages. Also disgusting service in Westwood as limited food and drinks only. When getting hot dri nks told they no longer supply saucers ! ABSOLUTELY REDICULOUS

I wouldn't normally think of going to MnS for lunch but I was hungry and had to pop in there anyway. Well, what a surprise! Lovely staff, spotlessly clean and the food was proper lush. I had an Emmental cheese and mushroom toastie and a slice of Victoria sponge cake. Simple but just so tasty!!!!

Visited M&S Newbury cafe today with our grandson as they had advertised “kids eat free” when we spend a fiver. Choice limited, guy behind the counter didn’t seem to know what was included, the fruit option consisted of a lonely satsuma. Grandson chose ham sandwich, cheesy puff things, the satsuma and apple juice and didn’t eat any of it - good job it was free. My tomato soup was nice but my husbands toasted ham an d cheese sandwich was soggy and not toasted at all. No cutlery or napkins were provided, we had to get our own. Won’t be visiting there again in a hurry!

The entrance was blocked by a lady with her arms folded like a burly bouncer. I asked if I could come by and she said ‘track and trace’ I explained I just wanted a bottle of water and to leave, so track and trace not required A big sigh and went in to ask a colleague if they do take away water! I was allowed to pass but she then obstructed my path, I had to ask if I could go by, she tutted and moved two steps away. Very rude!!

Blown away by the service after 2 visits to M& S. Last week we visited the one at Broadstairs shopping centre after a v bad experience with Primark. We received great service from the staff and found what we wanted no problem at a good price . ( an infants coat , trousers and some trousers for my wife ) When we got home to Newbury and found we had picked the wrong size trousers for my wifeTook them back to our local branch in Newbury today - unfortunately the ones we wanted are out of stock in store and on line ( the assistant happily checked for us ) so they just gave us a refund - i was impressed , we bought in a different store and the problem was entirely of our own making yet they refunded without a quibble . Top marks M& S ! We will buy another pair when they appear on the rails again

I had been given a voucher for afternoon tea at M&S but have to say the poor woman who seemed to be running the whole café struggled to get the staff to realise what afternoon tea was all about! We did eventually get it but it was like a comedy of errors. Have to say when it all eventually arrived it was a pleasant surprise.

My companion and I were looking for somewhere to have lunch and chose the Marks & Spencer cafe in Newbury. We found the cafe and joined the queue moving towards the counter. We looked for menus by the trays and on the counter but found that the only menus available were up on the wall behind the serving staff. We could not read them because the print was far too small for us. The staff would have been too busy to read them out to us so we left.How many other customers have they lost because of this issue? Or perhaps M & S are not bothered with their cafe and this is another branch of the department store that will go.

So disappointed as arrived for breakfast but beyond a small fruit pot and eggs there were no healthy options, considering they sell fresh bircher muesli in the shop downstairs this is disappointing. The cafe doesn't open until 9am, another irritation and a great way to loose business with Starbucks and Costa in the same retail park, which is exactly what happened. Not only is it a Saturday but it is leading up to Christmas and they are missing a trick here, serve more healthy offerings and open at 8.30am.

Called in whilst shopping. Very good flat white and an iced fruit bun. Service swifter than usual. Cafe area bright and clean as usual.

Called in for coffee. Service a little slow and haphazard. Flat white coffees were very good. Cafe area was clean and tables were cleared promptly.

My friend loves M&S coffee shops...so we meet here. I am a coffee snob and like really good coffee...frankly I don't get it here, its very average so I drink tea. The food however is good and a decent choice. Not overpriced...just not anything terribly special as a cafe.

Always eat here when shopping with granddaughter. She knows exactly what she wants. Nothing too exciting, but always good food and service. Can get a little busy over lunch periods.

My daughter had a gluten free cake and I had a lovely iced fruity bun that I could have almost eaten more!! The restaurant is light and airy and the staff friendly. Tables should be cleaned regularly though. It is bad form for two customers to have to ask to have their tables cleaned on a Saturday afternoon when the restaurant is lively.

Whilst I don't rate the coffee at M&S, the food is better than all the other local cafe's. Nice airy restaurant, decent choice of drinks and food and pleasant views overlooking the Parkway shopping area.

Dont find the food that particulary great and it looks like a generic cafeteria...If youre shopping there and peckish then its worth having.

Somos grandes fans de M&S;, pero desgraciadamente el servicio para nuestra breve parada en boxes era nada pero bueno! Todo lo que quería era una taza de café y un sándwich/pastel. Como siempre había una cola para ordenar y dondequiera que vaya es raro no encontrar una cola. Bien, esto no era demasiado de un problema y, para ser sinceros, estamos acostumbrados a ello. Pero cuando finalmente llegamos a la orden, dos pequeñas latte, una bocadillo tostado y una tarta de té, todo fue cuesta abajo. Me sirve el café inmediatamente (como es habitual) y dado el número 10. A la mesa para encontrar, aunque había un número de mesas vacías todas estaban llenas de "basura" y se vacía. Les llevaban a nosotros mismos con la antiquísima tradición de bunging encima de la mesa de al lado, y comenzó el café. Unos 20 minutos más tarde habíamos terminado nuestro café, pero desgraciadamente todavía no hay comida. Para empeorar las cosas, la mesa con el no 11 estaban comiendo en su sandwich. Finalmente el sandwich llegó y fue muy buena, el pastel de té llegamos que parecía que había sido incinerada. Debería haber convertido, pero que había sido en el restaurante algunos 40 minutos más, así que guardaron silencio. No es M&S; finest hour. Ni la nuestra! Así, café bueno y sándwich, horrible, horrible servicio teacake, acompañado por mesas sucias por todas partes. Both my wife & i Were shopping in the Newbury store getting few things for christmas presents & one for my Birthday when we finished we decided to visit the cafe can honestly say it was really good very surprised food good & displayed well when it came,staff really kind always smiling a warm welcome feeling when you visit

Quick lunch needed, ordered jacket potato and cheese. It came with salad and very nice. Would be better if butter supplied with it. Good value and quick service. Tables needed clearing a bit more quickly, mine was slightly sticky.

Después de un buen paseo arriba y abajo de la calle alta y una o dos visitas a salas de montaje siempre se sentían atraídos hacia este Café - esta vez fue para el té de la tarde - ¡guau!. El servicio era bueno. Pequeños pasteles, sándwiches, taza de agua hirviendo extra! Perfecto.

Popped in for coffee, very poor level of service at the counter. The staff member who served me was rude and unpleasant wont be returning.

Nothing special in a Jacket Potato right? Try this one and think again? Comes with a side salad and it is beautiful. My favourite is cheddar topping but have it your way. 10/10

Quando ora mi nessun pub ti dà da mangiare xche è tardi (le 9) questa è la salvezza. Insalate e panini molto buoni. Personale gentile e prezzi standard. Anche una buona presenza di vini.

Paper, football news, large cup of coffee and on my own. Not a huge menu choice, though clean, friendly staff and nasty food. I'd recommend and will return again

Visited fri 27 Nov.had soup and roll. Lovely vegetarian friendly soup with 2 small very soft rolls. Previous times had jacket potato which was ok but soup much better option. Staff helpful.

Mark and Spencer's food always taste better! We enjoyed our lunches in the cafe after shopping. The children love the food and drinks there. Sometimes the cafe offers meal deals which make it even better to dining here. If you have an easy saver card, you can save a further 7.5% for everything spent in M&S.

When joining a queue of just two people you expect to be served in just a few minutes, but this isn't the case here. A wait of 10 to 15 minutes seems to be the norm, possibly down to the complexity of making a good quality latte.

Good selection of snacks and light meals including healthy choices. Quick service and friendly staff, especially Janet who definitely knows her coffee.

Nice venue in the new Parkway shopping precinct on the first floor. Spacious and comfy chairs. Good choice of snacks, sadly as always the coffee in these places never as nice as that you can buy from a dedicated coffee shop. Pleasant ambience and if you drink tea or a soft drink you wont be disappointed.

Slow service, poor choice, expensive. Go to John Lewis instead, better value and slightly better service but queues can be long.

I would not normally write a review of somewhere I only had a cup of coffee with a friend but felt I wanted to mention the kind and wonderful service. As I was putting my cup of coffee down on the table my bag slipped and knock the coffee so it spilt everywhere -across the table, chairs and floor. The staff were really helpful, charming and kind when I asked for a cloth and came across with a large roll of kitchen paper and quietly and efficiently wiped up the extensive mess. Meanwhile my friend rejoined the queue to get me another coffee. Once the staff realised this was happening they told me to fetch her back as they would automatically replace the spilt drink. Considering we purchased the coffees with free tokens anyway I was really impressed with their attitude and response to the incident. Well done Marks and Spencer!

It was the normal quick snack nothing to dislike and it was healthy and satisfying and the coffee is always excellent

good coffee and good service.they make a good mocha, unlike the retail park [not so good ]problem with the air conditioning , to drafty and cool, people have complained, but nothing has been done about it. this should be controlled on a daily basis.water is supplied on a small table,, this is appreciated.but should have glasses not plastic cups,, [ cheap ] . and how about lemon,. [ which is provided at the retail park.]

Stopped for impromptu lunch on Saturday at 11.50am. Quite slow service considering not peak lunch slot. Clearly an off duty staff member in the queue in front of us, as all working staff spoke to her (the manager on duty came round to the queue and hugged her!) and they were discussing their rotas and next time off/holidays. Fair enough, it didn't affect my experience. But what was unprofessional was the staff member serving the non working member and telling her about the lack of food and portions they had had delivered that day, and that they hardly had any food to serve. Needless to say, I was not surprised when I ordered a jacket potato and was told the filling I wanted was not available. I chose another filling and we paid for the food. An acceptable wait for my jacket potato to be prepared, but the portion size was small for the cost of it. Having said that, it was accompanied by a lovely fresh salad with dressing on the side which was nice. The rest of our order was up to usual, reassuring standard you would expect from Marks and Spencer's.Staff clearing the tables were pleasant and cheerful.An average experience all round.

Newbury is a great shopping area and has interesting buildings so Marks & S offers the standard menu but is decorated in an interesting way. Right in the centre of things.

we went to this restaurant on Saturday 13th October 2012 and had a coffee in the restaurant I had a medium filter coffee (£2.00) and my wife had a medium skinny latte (£2.40). The restuarant was very clean and up to the ususal standards from Marks and Spencer. The service was a bit slow and there was a queue but this was normal for this time of day. We enjoyed the atmosphere and carried on shopping afterwards.
