Marks & Spencer in Merthyr Tydfil

Very disappointed with the service in the cafe. We arrived at 4.30, and were told at 4.43pm that we couldn't have fish and chips, or other hot food as the cafe would close at 5pm. We spoke to Hayley, the food Manager downstairs who dealt with our disappointment brilliantly by offering us sandwiches. My wife had been with school children all day in Cardiff on a trip and was very hungry. Hayley saved the day, she was so pleasant and helpful but I am disappointed with the service at the cafe. Customers who were just ahead ordered fish and chips, but I felt the lady on the till was not being truthful about running out of what we asked for. My wife asked for schnizel but was told they had run out of this also, 'there is no hot food available'. Again, thank goodness for Hayley!

Disgusting overpriced weak machine made instant coffee . N&S coffee was as good as as other leading coffee chains but not anymore since the instant making coffee machines have been introduced at M & S.

I’ve always loved the cafe in marks. The wait time however! 🫨Waited 1hr for our food, I had my children with me who getting very impatient and irritable. In the end I had to ask for refund as I had to leave. This needs to he addressed and changed!

Taken half an hour to be served at counter. Staff are running around like headless chickens seemingly unsure of what they have to do. Go somewhere else if you want quick service.

Paid 20 pounds for awful food chips weren't burnt and the tasties weren't much better cheese wasn't even melted not coming back

Really enjoy going to the Merthyr M&S cafe, Merthyr. Always quick and efficient service, nice atmosphere and the coffee is always good. Food is also quality, and we would go more often if we could!

The staff are fantastic - really attentive, friendly and keep an eye out for the older customer who might need some extra level of service.

This place has the slowest service this side of the Atlantic Ocean! 40 minutes to queue, 40 minutes! I don’t know how many people gave up and walked away - I would’ve other than I’d parked my 89yr old mother-in-law at a table. ’We can’t heat your toasted sandwich until you get to the till’ where the trainee on the till has no clue what to do with a toasted sandwich. One person doing hot drinks - but only when you get to the till. Italians families would never have survived in their cafes if they performed like this!! Absolutely shocking service ..

Visited today7/9/21 . Picked up my bits and pieces . At checkout only one assistant . Only 2 customers in front of me, but 3 staff chattering by self serve (which I used) Customer care today , I feel wasn’t at its best

I actually love it here, it is bright and airy, staff are lovely and it is a great place to meet with friends. On the negative side service is so slow. It take ages for the staff to just make a coffee. Wish they could rush up the service.

For a newish M&S cafe the service was slow. A 15 minutes wait for a heated item. No butter on display for the scones, you have to ask. A lot of flies hovering around the cakes. Tables not cleared or cleaned. This was not a busy day.

Lovely cafe, bright and clean with good variety of cakes on offer. However, it takes ages for the staff to make the coffee. Ordered four coffees last week and by the time fourth one was served, first one was cold. Pleasant staff but service needs to speed up.

What you expect from M & S is all here. It can be a bit crowded but it's good albeit standard food. Staff are very good; helpful, well trained and pleasant. That means so much.

Brilliant service in the cafe with excellent wheelchair access, and the shop was well spaced to allow wheelchairs with plenty of disabled parking

Marks and Spencer food is always lovely and their selection in the coffee shop is delicious.....their coffee is delicious too 👍

Normal Marks and Spencers selling clothes and with a foodhall downstairs and a cafe upstairs serving hot food and drink.

It’s an ok little coffee shop. Not much room for the lady’s behind the counter to work. Very nice cakes on offer, staff were pleasant. Seating area very clean and tables cleared away quickly. It’s the best cafe on the retail park I would think.Now.... To the manager... Just one question . Why is it £0.60 for a mini jam pot. Now that’s taking the mick. You can get a full jar of Tesco finest for £0.65. They retail for less than 0.15p per pot, If you buy 48 jars.Now I’m guess you buy big quantity’s, Now if your buying a Scone for £1.50, Jam and cream on top will add £1.30. Doubling the price just about. Having just spent £120 in the store, it’s should be a welcome break. It’s a positive question not a Negative comment.I will go there again, just a coffee next time. Decent amount of ladies ,mens and childrens wear to choose from.It has a cafe upstairs an a food hall downstairs.Can order online and pick up in store

Took a break from shopping to have a snack at M&S.; Nice strong hot coffee and a tasty , hot toastie. The tables are quite awkward for someone with a disability, being narrow and close together.

If you've shopped until you've nearly dropped at the Merthyr Retail Park then theres a few options for revitalizing yourself...... The cafe on M&S; is one. If its a light lunch a small snack or just a drink this watering hole will do well.

Cannot beat the New local Simply food store. Not used very often but after having serious problems with out of stock items of medical ingredient importance I decided to try simply foods

Visit here at least once a month. The store is on the small side but you can order on line and collect without any fuss. Parking is fantastic and the food hall is very good.

Nice place to relax after shopping trip we often pop in here for tea and scones etc. Helpful staff space a bit tight with pram tho but clean and tidy .

The cafe serves salads, jacket potatoes and sandwiches. The coffee is nicer than Costa. Staff are always friendly and give a warm welcome

Called in for a coffee and snack whilst shopping in retail park. Cafe clean, but a bit on the small side. Staff were friendly . Coffee and cake average. Food looked nice but don't think I would eat a meal there ok for a coffee and snack.

went for breakfast staff friendly bacon roll v/good A bit small not what i was expecting as the nearest store is cardiff . Considering they closed the Pontypridd branch down i was expecting something a bit bigger .

We just got back from Spain where we experienced excellent customer service and called into M & S for some food shopping on the way home. We called into their cafe for two cups of tea and a toasted teacake. When my wife poured her tea into her cup she found the outside of the cup still had coffee stains from the previous user. She returned it and the cup was replaced from the kitchen as she had been given the last one from the previous batch. The fact that she had poured half her tea into the dirty cup did not register with the staff. We then waited for the teacake noting a couple on the next table had to go up and reminding the counter staff they were still waiting for their soups and rolls. The gentleman then asked the server could he have the correct roll he had ordered and paid for which was then brought. After 15 minutes and after we had finished our teas my wife enquired where our teacakes were only to see them on the counter and be told they had just come out of the toaster. They were tepid so obviously had been there for some time. There seemed far too many staff there, we counted 9, but they were disorganised to the point of chaos. We will not visit the cafe again

Lovely clean area with friendly staff. Some food cooked by the bakery section downstairs, beautiful. Good coffee and prices all average. highly recommended.

I waited for years to have Marks and Spencer at my door step. Pleased that I was not disappointed when it finally arrived!

Popped in for coffee and cake .coffee pretty average and cake on the dry side definitely not worth the price . Staff were pleasant, though not as pleasant as when first opened, hopefully standards are not on the decline .

Our visit was early afternoon, only two people queuing and plenty of staff on the section, the cakes were getting on the dry side have been there since opening times. 7 times we asked for our receipt, the member of staff on the till, far too interested in a new device they have been issued with to check the latest Sparks Card offers, for those customers not having access to the internet, well that`s all fine, unless of course the customers its intended to help, have already completed their shopping prior to visiting the Café. There was around thirty covers in the seating areas, so plenty of room to sit down, sad to say, many tables not cleared of dirty crockery and discarded food, by far the biggest problem was the state of the floor underneath the tables, no attempt had been made since time of opening to sweep the floor and stop customers treading in the mess and then spreading it throughout the sales floor when leaving the Café. Plenty of staff, plenty of talking, but little in the way of action. Hot drinks actually hot, but the cake, now shrunk in size again and £2.85 a slice, not good value for money even if moist, well being dry, not worth buying. To the reviewer who said no Café in this store, its on first floor adjacent to the Menswear section.

Clean, slightly slow service with expensive prices but good quality offerings.Crowded at peak times.

I first stopped here at Christmas when it opened and despite there being some 'teething problems' the food was good and service not bad.

Popped in for a coffee and cake one dinnertime. You can help yourself to the cakes which are on a central serving table under plastic domes. Nice chatty lady on the till with a bit of banter. The cost: almost a tenner for two coffees and cake, cakes were nice but the coffee nothing special.

There is no cafe at this store so I am mystified how a reviewer found it below standard. Food hall, yes; clothes, yes but no cafe.

Considering this store only opened in December I was surprised at the standard of hygiene in the café. Despite the fact that there were plenty of staff around the tables weren't cleared or wiped down and there were food crumbs all over the floor. This is not what I expected from Marks and Spencer. Even my 3 year old daughter commented on the food mess everywhere!
