We visited around 1.10pm. The restaurant was busy, and running out of food. Tables were left with dirty crockery on it so difficult to find an empty and clean table. Very limited menu, and quite expensive.

Visited the restaurant today and was very disappointed. I chose to sit at the far end on a table for 2, but as I was waiting for my husband to bring back our food and drinks a couple of ladies came to sit on the table next to me. Not only did they have to squeeze by but once they were seated I could of touched their table without any effort.. I felt so uncomfortable I moved to a better spaced table. I did apoligise to the ladies by saying no offense but the tables are far too close for comfort, they both agreed. There didn't seem to be any thought by M&S about the safety of their customers at all just packing in as many tables as possible, money before peoples safety. We won't be returning any time soon.

I went to Southend branch today. I purchased 2 coffees at the restaurant which I was served in a China cup although I asked for takeaway cup. The drinks were then put in a takeaway cup and to my dismay the coffee only filled up to three quarters of the cup. I asked for the drinks to be topped up which was done. But I was rather concerned about how much drink wasn't being given especially as the prices have gone up in price. I put the drinks into a cup holder and into my bag.. when I got out of the shop I had the coffee and it was nearly cold so the drink I was looking forward to to warm me up wasn't very nice. I felt that I should point this matter out as I think this was rather unjust and unfair.

Rayleigh M&S food hall - Where is the sense in putting two of the three disabled parking bays away from the pay to Park machine. It’s on a nasty slope too. As a registered disabled person, I have no problem about paying to park but I do think there was a lack of thought about us less mobile folk, when positioning the bays and machine. Of course there is always the dilemma of the able bodied, without the blue badge, using disabled bays. Out of my last four visits, twice cars were parked in disabled spots without blue badge being displayed. Who takes responsibility - the staff in the store say not their problem. In fact I have asked three times in store about this and the position of the pay machine and three times been told by staff that the car park is nothing to do with M&S. I disagree - whether M&S own or rent the car park, surely it is the best customer experience that M&S should be aiming for - or - do they not care about less mobile people I wonder. One more machine could be easily placed by the disabled parking bay on the wall. The food hall also has no drive and shopping scooters for use and there’s plenty of room by car park exit to have two plugged in. Again is it lack of care and disinterest? I think so. Just as we all know, there is a pink pound and a silver pound, but there is also a strong disabled pound and disabled people appreciate, a lot of the time, easy to cook meals, so why Rayleigh food hall, are you so disinterested and uncaring about your less mobile potential customers? The cafe is now pretty grim for choice unless you go and choose off shop floor and bring the food back to the cafe counter to pay. However, the staff always kindly carry my hot drink across for me to a table as my hands shake and I appreciate this. Come on M&S, please stop potentially alienating a section of your shopping community.

Perfect service, drinks and snacks from good old Marks and Spencers. A lovely little out-of -the-way place for a great coffee.

Usually had to travel to Basildon for the nearest M&S, so it was great to see a store open in town. Great selection of fare, as you expect - and on our doorstep.

We usually shop at the Southend Branch of M&S but it is becoming increasingly busy and crowded.......so not living far from Rayleigh we decided to try the new store in Rayleigh. I found it a much better store in many ways, larger, well laid out and things easy to find. A much better stock of Fruit, vegetable and salads. Very good offers in meat and fish, and good selections of their produce. There is a small Car Park where you can an hours parking free, but there is a larger Car Park for longer stays, also conveniently the use of a Toilet, just one but it is for disabled as well. A great addition to Rayleigh a calmer atmosphere...........and the staff were less harassed and helpful...... we did not use the café.......as take away.

Every other supermarket failed on this site. Hopefully this one will not as the quality and price of their food is far better than I expected.

We had a look around this new store and was quite pleased with what we saw. Seems there is a fair selection of food, flowers and drinks and a small cafe, I mean small !! Nice for the elderly who like Marks' bits that they don't have to travel to Southend.

Ok, this cafe has only just opened and it was full in teh early days of opening around Easter but now its easy to get a seat anytime of the day and the last few times I have been here its been less than 50% empty. Reason, well not the staff, they are polite attentive and do a good job. I put it down to the coffee. There is a large sign saying the coffee is Fairtrade and their purchaser has been around the world to get it. However, it tastes os nothing and I am pretty sure a double shot would not help. I had a decaffeinated cappuccino and my wife had a latte. Both tasted of nothing. We also has toasted tea cakes, which I think they forgot as it took ten minutes for these to arrive, when, as I said there was next to no one in the cafe. Teacakes were ok but the butter portions were far too small to spread fully across the teacake and they were hard and cold so by the time you did manage to spread the butter the teacake was cold. On the upside my daughter had a ham and cheese toastie which she thought was excellent. There is a lot of competition in Rayleigh with loads of cafes, 6 within 100 yards of the M&S store so they will have to raise their game to compete.

After many years of amateur, incompetent and unfortunate landlords, crushed by a greedy and unbending national pub chain, this failed village pub has finally closed down. It's now shuttered-up, awaiting redevelopment.

Dear Marston's, I am writing to express my frustration as my previous complaint, submitted almost 3 weeks , has not only gone unacknowledged but remains unresolved. Despite allowing ample time for your team to respond, I have yet to receive any form of acknowledgment or an update on the matter. This lack of communication and resolution is extremely disappointing and has left me feeling disregarded as a customer of over 20 years . I kindly request an immediate response to this issue, as I expect timely action and a satisfactory resolution. Please confirm receipt of this complaint and provide an update on how you plan to address my concerns below is my original complaint Dear Marston's, I am writing to express my utmost disappointment and frustration regarding the treatment my child received recently. On 08/02/25, I was with my child, wife and a group of friends in Ye olde crown in Rayleigh watching the rugby match England V France . We were enjoying the game when, unexpectedly, My wife was abruptly told our 5 year old boy had to leave the premises with only 15 minutes left of the match. When questioned, I was told only he had to leave, you (me) can stay (what am I supposed to do, leave a 5 year old outside while I finish watching the game?) I will admit I did not respond well to being shouted at and I did shout back, what also attributed to my frustration was the response I got when I asked how I could complain. Response being: "I don't know, it's Marstons". I asked if she could find out for me and was told "no, It's Marstons". So, so far there appears to be an issue with duty of care with the poor suggestion that my child could wait outside, a lack of customer service and inability to provide one's employer's contact details to a customer and as to my next point, not aware of the difference between policies & law. I understand that there may be policies in place (myself and my wife have been unable to find these despite searching online - I daren't ask the staff at the pub what they are - or reasons for the decision, but the way in which my child was treated was completely unacceptable. Instead of being approached with respect and provided with an explanation that we would not be able to watch the game in full before it started, he was rudely kicked out without any regard for our experience, our friend's experience or the money we had spent at the pub. As a loyal customer of this pub for over 20 years, I have always appreciated the atmosphere at this establishment. However, this incident has left a sour taste in my mouth and has made me question the level of care and consideration given to customers, especially young patrons. When it advertises itself as a family friendly place. I would also like to bring to your attention a matter of training and development for your staff, as your deputy manager does not understand the difference between company policies and the law. I bring this point to your attention as the confusion between the two, when the deputy manager is telling me it's the law and my child can not be in the premises at this time, which is not accurate, with some simple training so the staff are adequately trained on the difference this situation would have been prevented , I urge you to address this issue promptly and provide a satisfactory explanation for why my child was asked to leave the pub when It was quite clear that we were in to watch the game. I also hope that steps will be taken to ensure that such disrespectful treatment does not happen to any customer in the future. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to hearing back from you soon and hope that we can resolve this issue in a mutually satisfactory manner

Last night was my second visit to The Punch Bowl and on both occasions the meal, service and atmosphere have been bloody amazing. The drive out to the pub itself takes you through some of the more rural parts of Essex. It’s remote enough to make you wonder whether you’ll actually ever arrive but close enough to surrounding towns to make it well worth the visit (just 25 minutes from where we are in Leigh). You’re greeted by the friendliest staff you could hope to meet and are immediately made to feel at home before being taken to your table and looked after the entire time. If cosy, traditional country pub is your vibe you can’t get much better and after a couple of hours sat down with friends, eating amazing food and drinking great wine it’s incredibly hard to leave. It’s worth mentioning that The Punch Bowl do NOT automatically add a service charge to their bills and they also only accept tips in cash so take some with you because you’ll be kicking yourself if you leave without rewarding the service. The waiting staff are out of this world 😊
