The Marlborough Head in Rochford

Low ceilings and beams. Not the most ebullient of welcomes and lots of mumbling. The menu is impressive, lots of choice. I ordered the Chicken, Ham and Leek pie and the wife ordered the Steak and Ale pie. The shortcrust pastry on both pies was dry. There was something odd tasting about the mash. Couldn't put my finger on it. It was lunch, it was ok for a pit stop but I wouldn't rush back.

Haven't eaten here but the atmosphere is great and so is the service.

Good beer and good lunch snack. Not too crowded and excellent service.

Nice friendly pub with an average sized beer garden. I have not tried the food but they have a full menu available.

Chicken salad was plentiful. Staff very nice. This is somewhere I use to go back in my day when working in Rochford. Lovely pub.

Attended a wake at the Marlborough , service and food was excellent, thanks to the landlord, we were well looked after

The Marlborough Head Rochford, is a truly amazing place, not only just for the beers, but the food is fantastic. To be honest I was born and bred in Rochford, have lived there for 75+ years, met my wife there 55 years ago, we were in the pub for Sunday dinner only this weekend. Excellent beer garden, dog friendly as well, what more could you ask for. 👍👍

Was visiting my grandparents and popped in. Compliments to the chef! The ranch reaper burger and chips was cooked to perfection! Used to run a restaurant so I can vouch. Great pint and the bar staff made me feel welcome. Great back garden that gets the sun too. Dog friendly, a pub must. Decor is classic and the ceilings low, its a looked after old building 1 min from the station. Cheers!

This is an old style pub and quite homely. Got a wide selection of various beers and spirits plus they do a nice coffee. Food is good too. Worth a visit.

The barmaid was lovely and welcoming however the food took about an hour to come out (was only sandwiches) and it wasn't very nice. Bread was stale and bland filling. The pub is probably best for a few drinks not food as it is a nice environment

We asked if they was still cooking at 17.30. The y said yes. Small meal is all we wanted but I did think I was going to finish with a dessert. But the cook decided she had enough so no more cooking. No dessert. Wasn't really happy no pre-warning that she had enough. The gov seemed to be ok with that. Won't be visting there again.

Had a few drinks with a group of friends, others had been before this was the first time for me. Drinks selection is fantastic, love the layout too. Easily accessible from various carparks and local shops and transport services. Will definitely be going back soon

All good to start. When we asked for a sweet we were told that the kitchen was closed! As we left, the cook was in the yard drinking and smoking. Very poor practice.

Good atmosphere playing darts as the away team. Good food as well

Visited for 3 nights for evening meal, on one night food was not available due to a darts function but on the other 2 nights the meals were great and reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and made us feel more than welcome.

Always a fun time in the Marlborough Head. The food is good and there's a good choice of both food and drink. Alan and the team are always welcoming.

Great food, service and atmosphere. Always have a laugh with the staff there and they make it so enjoyable to go there.

First time in this pub ...the sunday roast was home cooked to perfection and plenty of it great value, lovely pub and great atmosphere , now going to be my new local

4 of us went to The Marlborough Head for lunch, ordered 4 meals and the lady behind the bar came out and provided all 4 of us with cutlery only for them to bring 3 meals out, waited and waited for the 4th meal before asking how long it was going to be only to be told they only had 3 meals on the order then told we did not order 4 meals which we clearly did. was then told it would be a 25 min wait for the 4th meal. we had to say no as we was on a tight lunch scheduled. The waitress did not care one bit that there had been a mistake and did nothing to try and rectify the mistake. The decor is dingy and dirty and freezing cold. The customer service was no existent. and would advise anyone to stay well clear.

Nice pub, atmosphere, and staff, all good, just expensive at 2 drinks nearly £12.

Been in this pub before when I used to take my dog in there I don't know if it's dog friendly now it's not bad didn't have Stella so had to have Cronenberg

Wonderful place to be if you looking for a good night out obviously choose Friday is the best.

Great atmosphere really helpful and friendly team had food and drinks inside and on the garden the bones lager is well worth a try. Just mind your head when you walk in

I was a bit worried reading recent reviews and this place is very clicky and loud regulars cramming the bar. and not that friendly. It also smells a bit musty and could do with a bit of TLC. Very average and not much atmosphere so won’t return.

I’m have recently moved to Rochford. The staff and owner have all welcomed me and my loved ones with open arms. The food is excellent every time and the beer is always so fresh and full of bubbles! The cleanliness is also too notch: you cannot fault this place x

Popped in The Marlborough for a bite to eat. Food was lovely, price was reasonable and staff friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend. Will definitely be going back.

Look no further!!! Wonderful pub nestled in the heart of Rochford! Traditional pub grub and down to earth staff! So welcoming would recommend anyone to come here! Went here just for drinks on a Friday evening. Positives: Really close to Rochford Train Station so no excuse for drink driving or need for expensive cabs home Great live music (The Poachers) Shows the football Toilets clean Close to Stavros Grill after a few too many pints! Negatives: Quite expensive (but understandable in cost of living crisis) Ran out of shot glasses so had a tequila in a jagerbomb glass! Small venue to don't expect a seat unless you get there early

Lovely and very reasonably priced Sunday lunch. Staff were amazing and the Manager went out of his way to ensure we were looked after even giving the children a free ice lolly.

Excellent tasty roast & lovely staff! Dog friendly too!! Despite living local (Hockley) this was my first visit with friends to eat. We were lured by the roast, we had 2 turkey and a vegetarian roast. It was so tasty! Big meal! We looked at the menu and we're impressed with both the selection of dishes and the prices - all very reasonable. The two barmaids couldn't be more helpful and cheerful. The service was excellent. Will defo be returning and highly recommend!

Adult food was all burnt, kids’ meals were all freezing. Won’t be eating here again unfortunately.

Fantastic selection of beers on tap and the roast dinner was great value. Also the landlord was very welcoming and made me and my family feel very comfortable. We will definitely be returning in the near future

The bar staff were Ok if a bit standoffish and the landlord (a portly, elderly chap) a bit of a character but stayed for a one drink each. Didn’t stay for any food. New to the area I found the Horse and Groom had a better atmosphere. New to the area, that will be more my kind of welcoming pub. Rochford used to be full of pubs, I’m told, but hardly any left now.

Not a great place to visit. The beer prices are marked up quite highly compared to other places and the food distinctly average for the price. It's a very 'cliquey' place - the bar staff (and some of the customers) 'look you up and down' when you arrive. Very much a 'local for the locals'. The manager is always there, ever watchful, which can be quite unsettling. Yes, there's history here, with lots of historic low beams etc. etc. But I found it an uncomfortable visit. And tough on the wallet. There are better places to go.

Absolutely amazing roast dinner. Crispy roasts, thick tasty homemade gravy like my mum used to make. Great selection of veg Great value too at £11.99. Highly recommend

Half of the place was freezing cold, the other half was comfortable. I'm prpbably not the right person to rate this place as I've always found it odd! Prices are high in comparison to elsewhere but it's frequentented to those who like it. Not my first choice but who am i to judge?

Lovely food, the manager was so lovely and welcoming and the regulars were also chatty. Shame about a couple of lads that spoiled it at the end having a row (beer induced) apart from that would defo go back

Lovely place. Reasonably priced. Very clean. Staff friendly. Had cod and chips. Not sure if cod was cooked from fresh but still very tasty. Will visit again

Brilliant evening, not cheap but worth it.

Just got back home from eating lunch at The Marlborough Head today. Five of us celebrating a birthday, the food was brilliant, very fresh, yummy, excellent portions and great value for money. We were all pleasantly surprised and will definitely be returning soon. Thankyou so nice to have somewhere local to go now, where we know the food is fab 😁😋

Good atmosphere Friendly staff (latte) But don’t bother putting money in the jukebox because if the landlord don’t like it he skips your song!! Regardless if your there singing along!! What’s the point in having a jukebox

Found this absolute gem close to the hotel we were staying in, fantastic ambience, extremely friendly and welcoming, would highly recommend a visit to any travellers in the area. Definitely go in for a meal, my steak as cooked to perfection! Mine host Alan couldn’t have been more friendly and the staff on our second visit just as friendly.

Right next to the Rochford Hotel we were staying at was this really friendly pub run by Alan and his staff. We had a really good time and the evening meal we had was great and lots of laughs and a good time with the friendly and welcoming staff and regulars. We recommend you pop in for a visit if you are in the area !!! ... Gary & Val

Only visiting the area and popped in for a drink while waiting for a cab..bar staff didn't have a clue about serving beer! My glass of wine was fine👍🏻

This is the kind of place that seems worse on reflection, even if it wasn't terrible at the time. My wife and I stopped here for a quick drink before a wedding. I couldn't spot any local ales on tap, which is a shame. At least there's Guinness! My wife ordered a G&T, which came with a complimentary smear of lipstick on the rim. Big yikes! Other than that, it's dingy on the inside and a little expensive for what it is. You could do worse for killing time, but not by much!

We went on the Thursday night for the quiz, had a great time although we didn't win. Good fun, great atmosphere. We didn't eat but the menu looks good. Friendly pub. Will go again.

Fantastic pub. Well liked by locals and folks from further afield. Wide age range, and live music too! Great times to be had there.
