What a rip off for £23! They had hardly any chips left, so rather than cook fresh ones they gave us the scraps they had left! Bear in mind it was only 12:30, not close to closing time! Chewy dried up chips! Fish was ok, nothing special. All very greasy and below average!

Sadly, the old world charm of Marks Fish and Chips on Southwold’s High Street: white china cups, saucers and plates, stainless steel teas pots and cheery locals doling out the orders to groups of old timers, has been lost. Food is now ordered at the counter. Once cooked, fish and chips, etc, are served on cardboard trays. Your order is announced then plonked on the high counter top and collected by you. Teas, etc, are served in disposable plastic cups. You collect your napkin-wrapped cutlery from a nearby table. Sauces, etc, are now ordered with the food and added to the bill. The haddock and chips remains as wonderful as they ever were, but, the experience is pretty miserable, not helped by the “self-clear” policy. Having to bung your food waste in one bin, recyclables in another and dirty cutlery in a third is no one’s idea of ambience.

We had fish and chips to take away from the restaurant, and were the best I have had in a long time: fish (cod) was a good size and as fresh as it could be. Well done and sorry that the restaurant may be closing soon.

Friendly staff and very inviting! Lovely clean tables and great menu. We opted for Fish chips and peas and Cornish pasty and chips. Absolutely delicious! We didn't realise the shop closed at 2pm as we were still halfway through our meals but we were not pressurised at all ! Recommended and we will be visiting again. They also do a takeaway window at the side of the shop.

Absolute shambles, owner was attentive while there, while owner was out of sight 5 staff around the bar discussing poor working conditions including pay and food allowance, all stating they’re looking for other jobs, one staff member had a parent or partner arrive complaining she had spent his money in an aggressive tone listing his bank statement, no thought given to the paying diners hoping for a relaxing dinner. To say I left traumatised was an understatement, it felt like I was in a scene from Shameless. Absolutely horrific. Date Friday 7th March.

We booked in for Afternoon Tea at 3.45pm on a Saturday afternoon to celebrate a 75th Birthday. The room was fairly quiet (maybe 4 other tables occupied). Our hot drinks arrived quickly, but that was followed by a 30 minute wait for the savoury course. Interestingly a couple of residents arrived (after us) and were served promptly with the waitress explaining the different selections. Eventually ours arrived with no explanations at all, making us feel rather like second-class citizens. The savouries were nice but we then didn’t get our sweet courses until 5.30pm. I had to chase them up on several occasions and trying to get more hot drinks was nearly impossible. By this time it was only our table of 4 and the 2 residents in the restaurant, so there was no excuse for the lack of service. This totally spoiled the day for us and it certainly was not what I was expecting from such a prestigious Adnams venue. The waiter did apologise and said he hoped I would come back, to which I replied that I wouldn’t. So dissapointed.
