The service was slow, at least for us. When I mentioned to a member of staff that customers who had ordered after us had been served some time before us I was told that was because our food took longer to cook. We had cheese and onion toasted sandwiches. I heard the other customers ordering sausages, so I am surprised they take less time to cook than it does to melt cheese. I really thought the staff had forgotten about us as they were busy chatting with someone (a customer) in the kitchen. Food was ok.

Absolutely amazing little find. What a lovely lady the owner is. Made us feel so welcome. The Homemade Steak Pie was delicious, plentiful of filling and full of flavour. Would highly recommend and will definately return next time we pop through Pocklington. Thank you again.

We holiday in the area quite a lot and this is our go to cafe whenever we are on holiday,ALWAYS a nice friendly greeting and good service.Good selection of food available and it arrives hot with a smile.Other people may moan about frozen chips etc but this is not a Gordon Ramsey restaurant with his prices. We are very happy that this cafe is there.Good service with a smile is much more than you get at the everyday burger type outlets.

Nice little cafe on sunny side of street , but the flat white I had tasted very strange to me - I won’t be going back . I asked some other customers but they thought it ok . It was hot milk masquerading as coffee , and with a bitter taste . Food looks good .

Does the sun always shine in Pocklington? Probably not but we always seem to be lucky on our annual visit so It's always a joy to sit outside this bustling café and watch the world (or at least this bit of it) pass by whilst we enjoy a bacon or egg (and sometimes a bacon AND egg sandwich and a good cup of coffee to start the day with. Even in these troubled times, the service is friendly and efficient - and the tables are just about the right distance apart. The menu is a predictable election of basic café food - and one day we will venture beyond our now traditional barms!

My wife and I have a tradition where we come here for a full English on our birthdays. We had planned to go today for my birthday, but had to cancel as we are currently self-isolating. However, thanks to our friends and the amazing staff at Market Street Cafe, we had a delicious fry-up delivered to our doorstep this morning! Cooked to perfection as always, it went down a treat! I couldn't recommend any higher

Walking round Pocklington looking for places to eat. Outdoor seating area, looked popular. Staff friendly and accommodating. Advertised gluten free options. The prices on the menu looked high for a "normal" cafe I thought (£7 for a jacket potato) and when the food came it was ok but nothing out of the ordinary (basic salad no frills). Don't mind paying more if you get a little bit extra

I called in for lunch. Smallest jacket potato ever with beans and a bit of lettuce that had seen better days and a few hard tomatoes and a bit of cucumber for £6 which I think is pricey. Dirty table which had just been cleared but not wiped so had the previous occupants crumbs etc still on it and a sullen waitress. My partner owns a cafe in Scarborough which I work in at weekends and if he offered his customers food and service like this his business wouldn’t survive. Trouble is Pocklington is small and doesn’t have much competition but there really is no excuse to serve sub standard food and offer poor service

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We popped in here recently for a quick lunch whilst passing through Pocklington - we were looking for somewhere relatively quick for a sandwich lunch, and are always keen to support the small local places rather than chains. The menu looked straightforward and simple fare, which was the sort of thing we were after. My husband and I both had the bacon and brie sandwich, which was fine and the bacon was nice and thick cut although mine didn't have much evidence of brie - I've had much better brie and bacon sandwiches. Coffee was just OK. The side order of chips were oven chips and not that tasty. Overall food was edible but slightly on the disappointing side.Plus points - the young waitress was lovely and attentive, and was particularly thoughtful as regards my toddler (bringing smaller cutlery, arranging a small portion of scrambled egg, I think arranging a plastic plate). Service was also timely even though they seemed quite busy. There were 3 booster seats with harnesses that were available to use for young children, which was handy for our nearly two year old. There was also a basket of books for young children, which was great to occupy our son whilst we waited for the food to come.On the downside though - everything just seemed that little bit grubby. The child booster seats were all sticky with leftover food and needed a good wipe down before use. The cafe's toilet is up a flight of stairs and was also cluttered and generally a bit mucky - I know they don't cook in there, but it's not a great reflection of a food establishment as a whole. There's no baby change table, which in itself isn't a major issue, but the bathroom floor looked a bit insanitary and I decided that I didn't want either myself or my child to be faffing about on a mucky floor. The cafe had also apparently received a large delivery of eggs on the morning that we visited and the boxes of eggs were still stacked somewhat precariously next to our table alongside the child booster seats throughout our visit instead of put away in the kitchen. It just seemed a bit disorganised.I'm afraid we won't be returning - there are a number of other cafes in the town that I'd prefer to try for a better experience.

My husband and I called in here for lunch. The staff were fine, but very slow with cooked lunches. Most people were having sandwiches or cakes and so were being delivered of their food reasonably quickly. My husband ordered the liver and bacon with mashed potato and peas. He said that the liver was burnt on one side. My chips were almost certainly frozen oven chips and not good at all. At least it wasn't expensive.

We breakfasted here a couple of times while we were staying in the village. No frills but good honest food and great coffee. They are happy to mix and match the ingredients of your breakfast and do a half, standard or large full English. The standard was very generous, I imagine if you had a large one you wouldn't need a dinner that day! They do lunches as well but we didn't get round to trying those - probably will do next time we are in the area.

Well I’m sorry to say we did not find the food here enjoyable. I had a omelette which was the smallest one ever and must have been cooked in a microwave as it tasted like rubber. I’m no master chef but I make much better omelettes at home. The jackets were ok but again portions not very big. Mum asked for poached eggs but they didn’t make them as no facilities? She had egg and chips which were ok. I don’t like to give negative reviews (read my other reviews) and this cafe gets good reviews normally therefore maybe it was a bad day for them.
