Market Restaurant & Bar in Brighton and Hove

Wow!! One of most amazing meals my wife and I have had ever!! The food and the service was incredible and even though we were sat at the bar as opposed to a table we still had an incredible experience. We started with goats cheese churros, then smoked beetroot, followed by prawns pil pil, now this was the only dish that wasn't what we expected. The prawns were butterflied with shell on, very tasty but not what we expected. Finally we finished with the fillet steak which absolutely melted!! We shared all dishes which we prefer to do. We were going to have wine with the dinner but the cocktails we had whilst ordering were so good (mojito & margarita) we stayed on cocktails all night. A wonderful date night made even better with amazing food, lovely restaurant and the best team!!!!

Fantastic meal in an intimate setting with attentive and welcoming staff. Quality of the ingredients is phenomenal and the chef is clearly passionate about not over-complicating the dishes. We will be back.

Ok. This place is amazing. Why? The front of house staff are accommodating, confident and sophisticated. The food speaks for its self and the stars of the evening are the ingredients. The salsa verde is just stunning! The pumpkin was just superb. Truffle Honey?……………..just honest. Every dish was full of flavour and you could taste EVERY INGREDIENT down to the samphire in the muscles. This is tapas but done in the Basque style! No subtlety her just bold and honest flavours. It’s not often I get blown away but tonight I was stunned. Well done to all the staff there. No rush just take your time and there was no push to spend. Will be back

We have been coming here for the past few years...twice a year. Amazing meal again...very friendly staff who always have time for you...wine always good and all other drinks spot on. Yesterday our favourites were the tuna ceviche....I could eat that every day and never get bored...the sauce was absolutely fantastic. My husband always enjoys the Albondigas...a tad too much cinnamon 4 me. The tortilla was excellent as well. We have to have Padron Peppers and Patatas Fritas with Manchego...we both could live on these as well. Thank you so much Market...we will be back.

The impression from outside is not the surprise it delivers once you are inside ,the service , absolutely amazing food . We sat on the bar and good interactive session with chef and bartender. Came to Market to celebrate our anniversary and it was amaizing! We have been wanting to try it for so long and it didn’t dissapointed! Starters were amazing and very beautiful decorated! The staff really do bend over backwards for you, the food was wonderful as the chef gave us extra pardon peppers because he wanted too. Visited Market on Monday evening and it was outstanding. Sadly no pictures were taken as I was too excited but everything I didn’t pause to take a snap. Micheal who seated and served us was wonderful, considering it was jam packed with a large table seated shortly after we arrived, he continued to provide such a high standard of service. He was attentive without being overbearing and explained all dishes well, also engaged in light conversation with us on a couple of occasions and we did not at all feel rushed. The food and drinks were amazing as ever. I had a Palmeria Gardens cocktail and could easily drink 3 or 4 of them! The wine was also great. The porchetta special was my favourite, so tasty and cooked really well. Other dishes worth a mention, the beetroot had a lovely little kick, the goats cheese churos with a not overbearing truffle honey was also delicious. Big fan of the meatballs too! Suffice to say there was not a bad dish, those ones just topped it for me. Thanks Market team, we will be back soon! 😋

Excellent food, delightful staff, good ambience, in fact even better than I'd expected. The place was recommended by our Airbnb hosts, and they were absolutely right to do so. After finishing the London to Brighton bike race, my husband was more than ready to enjoy a decent meal, and this surpassed our expectations. Delicious non alcoholic cocktails, a sharing platter of mouth-watering Wagyu steak and tapas, ending with mille feuille and affogato desserts. PERFECT. Thank you all.

From the moment I arrived I was greeted with smiles and felt very welcomed. I had organized a private dinner for 20 of us and was lucky enough to secure the private dining room downstairs. Jem/Gem was there to look after us and she talked me through the evening, explained all the wines she had on offer and asked me how i wanted things to go. SHe asked me if i had a play list or any requests for music, she was so detail orientated and made everything run smoothly. The food was AMAZING! There was so much of it and it just kept coming!! The Steak for me was the absolute show stopper, i was just gutted i eaten so much before that arrived, i am still dreaming about it now! Melt in your mouth and was local to the restaurant too! Quite a few team members came down to help serve too and we had such a lovely time speaking to them. The team at Market are like a family and it shines through! Towards the end of the evening Jem/Gem asked us what we planned to do next and called round to see what guest lists she could get us on, it was so above and beyond of her to do that, she genuinely wanted us to have THE BEST night! She ordered us taxis and off we went! I wanted to leave this message here to say a HUGE , BIG , Thank you for the best evening ever! I'll be telling everyone about Market and definitely be visiting next time i am in town! Lots of love xx

The service was okay and the quality of food wa okay. the reason I am giving 2 stars is that we were charged £50 per person for tapas and there was one steak to share between 3 of us . one cheesecake for pudding between 3 of us and no choice, not even enough bread on the table or a salad. It basically was £20 worth of food being charged at £50. To top it off we asked for some wine , the waitress said due you want rioja or a Malbec, we said Malbec, little to know it was £45 per bottle . Total bill for the night including the 12.5% service came in at £97 per person. We were a group of 9 and all of us felt that we had been fleeced for what was provided. We are an easy group to please. If you are going to charge that much at least provide a decent amount of food or a free liqueur at the end or at least enough bread. we could have had a 5 course taster menu at Etch for that price

Great place, great food stuff with out of the way to explain the menu and explain what was good with what. Great flavours, great atmosphere. Small place , a bit limited on seating so we had to sit at the bar. Tables for 2 nice for intimate meals.

There was no free table at Casa Don Carlos, and according to Tripadvisor this is one of the top three Spanish restaurants in Brighton, so we went here. Some dishes were fine, but others were ersatz approximations of true Spanish cuisine. In general, I found it cheesy and expensive. It pretends to "fine dining", but it does not arrive. The first thing my daughter did after going out was buy a kebab and eat it on the street. I guess you might like it if you don't mind spending more than £50 per person and still feeling hungry.

We went for our anniversary and as ever Market didn’t fail to deliver. The delightful waiter helped us choose a sensible number of dishes. Every dish was presented perfectly. I hadn’t been for a while and was disappointed that the truffle chips are no longer on the menu. But the dishes we had more than made up for it. Its amazing value for money. £90 for a wide range of extremely well prepared dishes and a bottle of wine was incredibly good value. As ever I walked out at the end of the evening wondering why I don’t make the effort to come here more often.

Came for an impromptu lunch on a rainy Sunday and were seated immediately. Beautiful atmosphere with quick, friendly service and a delicious tapas-style menu. The Ox Cheek and Lamb were absolutely divine.

We had a lunch with our five year old here. Sitting outside means sitting alongside a busy road, but we didn't mind at that moment. We were glad to find something away from the busy pier and with good healthy food.The lady that served us was very friendly which made the while experience perfect. We enjoyed superb paella (including a vegetarian one) and good spanish IPA bear. I can imagine sitting inside is wonderful as well as the interior looked nice and authentic.

This review is overdue. I decided to hold a small party (about 18 people) to celebrate friendship after a difficult year in January this year. I booked the basement. I chose the menu suggested - but replaced some of the items with help from Kate. We had to dedicated staff members (who were fabulous); the place looked warm, festive, and had an understated class- with the lights and the set. All of my friends absolutely loved the food (tapas- and main- esps the churros, crispy olive, broccoli and kale, mussels and lamb were great hits). They also loved the wine served. We also had a stereo system for the music (and had a playlist) and could dance afterwards. Kate and her team made us feel pampered and special - and have been ever since told by my friends what a great party is was- relaxed, fun, indulgent.

We ate at Market last month as we were visiting friends in Hove. The food was very good on the whole but a little overpriced for the portion sizes. The pork cheek wasn’t quite as tender as I expected, and it was a shame that the duck wasn’t available. Our friend tried to warn us off the goats cheese churros, which she said were overcooked on her last visit, but they were probably the highlight. Service was friendly enough, although our waitress was a little pushy with her food recommendations. I really liked the atmosphere and concept of the restaurant, and most of the dishes were great. It just fell down in a few areas.

Went with some friends to try this place. Now I know its tapas but 3 prawns on a plate? 1 slice of aubergine £7? Cheese board with a few wafer thin slices of cheese and a small cube of blue cheese..£13....no no no. Proper Spanish tapas is a small snack usually served free with a beer or wine - so for this place to call itself tapas when they actually have you paying almost the price of a main course for a tiny taster is a bit much.The ham croquetas although nice (but let's face it they're not hard to make) were cold in the middle, even when we sent them back the replacements were only just warm inside. The chorizo a la sidre tasted good but had the texture of a cheap soft frankfurter. The tendersten broccoli was akin to the deep fried kale they call seaweed in a chinese takeaway and again not very much of it for £7.No patatas bravas or ailioli, no albondigas or boqueronnes frites - all tapas standards that you would expect to see. Service was good apart from they completely forgot one of our dishes and as the food comes out in dribs and drabs we didnt know it had been forgotten until well after the last dish had been eaten. By then we didnt see any point in waiting for one last potato dish.The decor is great they've captured the modern Madridian eaterie style but unfortunately that didn't outweigh the negatives.Overall the food was ok but very overpriced for the size of the portions. We spent £50 a head, on a late afternoon meal with a couple of drinks each. No coffee and only 2 of the 5 of us had desserts.I wont be going again when there are much better tapas places with more extensive menus and better value. It's a shame because we had high hopes for this place.
