Market Cross Restaurant in Central Bedfordshire

Thought we would pay a visit as its been recently renovated. Firstly the refurb is good and I like the separate bar and restaurant area. We should have left before ordering, as people were sending food back with issues, but we were there and hungry so gave it a try. Missing items from meals. Sauces, that were on menu description & meant to come with the meal missing. Cheese meant to be an American style cheese slice, but was missing, and obviously they don't have this item, do they used grated cheese when asked where the cheese was. They should tell you before hand that they can not fulfil the order. I wouldn't mid but only about 7 tables of couples in restaurant. Chips were nice! It's a cheap restaurant, but still expect better than we recieved Not great and we won't return. Such a shame as it's local to us.

Food was extremely inadequate the steak was burnt and dry, which was apparently medium rare but cooked the same as the well done. I cant describe how disappointed we where with the food £60 for burnt dried up food. Wont be going back. Tried to give feedback but everyone avoids you

Very clean helpful staff been redecorated very well toilets are much better than they used to be. They even have sinks for children. The food portions are enormous. You can order your food from an app which Very good would highly recommend this place

Visiting since the renovation. Wow. What a complete turn around. It’s very well done. About time we had this in Dunstable. The food has improved so much. We will now be coming here for all the footie

Very disappointed with the lack of service. Went in to have a drink and was totally ignored by bar staff. They even looked at us when not serving anyone and then served another customer who came after. We left without being served and will probably not be back

Last week I visited the new and improved Market Cross. We have always had a lovely time there but this was one of the best. It's had a refurb and it looks amazing. The team were fantastic and were always friendly, helpful and smiling and were on the go constantly. The management there has made such a difference and the atmosphere was fab. They had a singer who was really entertaining and the food was lovely! We have already visited twice and looking forward to the next time especially with all of the events that they have coming up.

Fantastic refurbishment! Just what Dunstable needs. Everyone can enjoy it. The bar is homely and relaxed. The lounge is comfortable. The food was outstanding!

Went today, Very disappointed food was lovely. But not enough staff, 2 poor lady doing everything. Took hour for food to come out and then only half table had it and me and another had to wait another 20min for our to come out. Was for mother in law bday. Wanted the cake to come out with candles but the lady's was just so busy we decided to take it home. Was atmosphere because alot of people where not happy with the wait. Really disspointing

The new refurbishment is amazing! It’s got everything you could want for a pub and restaurant. Nothing else like it around. Food was top notch!

The updated Market Cross is looking absolutely fantastic it looks so much bigger the lay out is better and so modern, the food was absolutely fantastic I had fish and chips the fish was so fresh and the chips was so crispy my husband had the sirloin steak cooked to perfection and I had the sherry trifle cake so light and fluffy all staff was absolutely brilliant very welcoming explained how to order and recommend what was great on the menu overall it was a lovely experience and will definitely be back I would highly recommend so friendly and lovely atmosphere the manger is lovely and love chatting to her 😊😊

Beautifully decorated ,arrentive friendly staff. Although perhaps the floor walkers could dial it back a little . Great to be asked about any allergies on ordering . Offered upgrades and sauces to accompany our meal . Loved the choice of fruit slices to add to your drinks . Drinks served in branded glasses and well kept. Food was served in a timely manner , presented well and cooked as required.

Alot of teething issues on launch. Only ordered mains and took an hour and 15 mins to come. Ask for sirloin steak but was rump. Asked for medium to well cooked and wasn't evenly cooked as over half of it was medium rare. Asked for no peas was still given them. Food was cold chips under cooked and hard with loads of black bits all over them that i assumed was seasoning but on taste was clearly just dirty grease. Onion rings over cooked and practically black. Server didn't even know which table was which and was coming out shouting out what he had to the room to see who's it was. Hunters chicken was the worst I've ever had barely any cheese or bbq sauce and no taste to it at all. Hopefully it was just relaunch issues and will get better

Top job with the renovation the place looks very good nice and clean, all the staff very welcoming, food looked good and cooked to perfection, really enjoyed our time. We will definitely be rebooking

Staff were very welcoming and friendly couldnt do enough to make our visit enjoyable. Food was amazing we got steak and ribs , the steak was cooked to perfection and the ribs melted in your mouth . The staff also brought our dog a bowl of water and a bowl of turkey so she didn't feel left out which was so nice of them . Definitely had a lovely relaxed time here and definitely will be visiting again soon.

The carvery was terrible. No potatoes, 1 meat, vegetables very over cooked and soggy, very small meat portion with large plate as not enough meat available. The chef told us they forgot to get potatoes and it is was it is. Very poor explanation from staff. Will not be returning. Toilets were very dirty.

I am very disappointed having booked a meal for 40 people in November last year for April 5th this year to find out by a family member late last night that you are closing for refurbishment during this time. I have not had any correspondence saying this is happening or been told that my booking is cancelled. I now have less than an month to find another venue that will hold 40 people for a meal

Loved the menu ! Came in today to have some lunch with my fiance & were immediately greeted by staff. She informed me that they were having a refurb so some items on the menu weren't available but we had no trouble ordering at all. Food came out in a timely manner & was delicious. Would definitely come again once refurb is done !.

Visited with my Dad on a particularly busy Sunday. Lauren wasted no time in trying to accommodate us. We was seated in about 5 minutes. The food was amazing, especially the carvery. Everything was piping hot and the mash potatoes were delicious. Reanne and another lovely lady who's name I didn't catch (short black hair with a streak of red) served us throughout the stay with a smile and banter. Would recommend for a lazy Sunday to reboot before the Monday drag.

Everyone is so lovely and friendly, Vicky is a sweetheart. The whole experience is lovely we go there every Wednesday and get our usual meals. Fast service and respectful all round.

Carvery was very nice. The staff was helpful and friendly. We were told exactly how things work in regards to ordering. Everything was seamless. We really enjoyed the food. It's a very nice pub.

This place is due to have a refurb. And wow did we know it. This was the reason/excuse used for the lack of menu choice, behind the bar, in the carvery and also on the main (extremely limited) menu - let’s not forget the lack of almost all puddings to add to the sorry state of affairs. We used to visit this place a lot and really enjoyed the food, atmosphere and service. We have not been for a few years and as a table of 11 out for a Birthday Meal we were all looking forward to an experience we had all missed since our last visit. Lets hope the refurb allows this place to serve food that is not limited and rushed, kids meals that are not full of grease and burnt, a carvery that does not serve meat that looked like it had sat there for weeks, provides a choice of veg - any veg please that looks edible, and some kind of dessert choice, that is of course if all the before mentioned issues has not already made you run for the hills. Did we enjoy our visit? I have to say quite a resounding, NO. Will I be returning after the refurb? I am not sure I can bear to set foot in this place again.

Manager Lauren and her team were great. Very busy and short staffed but they worked their socks off and were great to ensure we had our food, checked in with us and tables were cleared quickly. Great team!

When we arrived we were told where to sit because we had booked ahead, only to find someone sat there, so we had to be found another table. The drinks were good and the ordering was straightforward enough :-) 2 of us had food off the menu, they enjoyed their food. 4 of us had the carvery, the food we did have was nice BUT they kept running out of things on the carvery, I was told the stuffing could take a while, by which time I'd finished my dinner and it still hadn't come out, they ran out of roast potatoes, had to wait for them, luckily they didn't take too long, had to wait for yorkshires, again didn't have to wait too long for them BUT it does mean that the other food you have plated up is going cold. The carrot and swede was rock hard, you couldn't even cut it with your knife, which wasn't pleasant. The other veg was pretty good :-) All in all it was okay, but that is all it was, okay.

The new ribs were incredible. So tasty. Also the katsu chicken burger was very tasty

When we pulled into the car park the restaurant from the outside looked clean and inviting. Entering the restaurant I was surprised at how big it was inside. Plenty of tables without sitting on top of other people. Inside was clean and welcoming. As I had never been here before I wasn’t sure if I seated myself or if it was table service. I think we should have been asked if it was our first time and then explained how it worked. Especially as I get quite anxious and I didn’t want to do anything wrong. When we figured out what we needed to do, we opted for the carvery and I am so glad I did. It was amazing. Fresh. Hot and very tasty. I was disappointed at the meat choices though as this particular day they only had gammon and pork and unfortunately I do not like either. My father had the gammon and as a retired chef, he is extremely hard to please but he enjoyed every mouthful. There was plenty of gammon/meat on the plate and then obviously you pile on your veg and potato choice (roast or mash). The cauliflower was amazing. They say you should judge a place on the toilets and I am glad to say that they were not only smell clean, they were clean clean. Overall a great experience with the exception of the meat choices

Went to the quiz night. Looking forward to having a chicken curry which on previous occasions has always been very good. However, not only did they not have the chicken curry available, I then opted for a beef lasagne. Guess what; not available. I then opted for a Mac 'n Cheese. Yes, you've guessed it - not available. I ended up with the Hunter's Chicken which was a mediocre ok. The bar lady said that they had ordered food from suppliers which had not arrived - I suggested they swap suppliers! The lady hosting the quiz was terrible. She seemed to have problems with the mic and on one particular round (the alpha link) she totally changed what answer she was looking for (if it's a film beginning with D then how can you put Madonna starting with M - quite important when you're working in an alphabetical order). All in all, a terrible evening with not a great choice of food.

Once again great service and food. Eat here every time I’m in the area and never disappoints. Staff really friendly and helpful. My grandkids are fussy but they loved the haloumi fries, chicken nuggets and lamb kebab. I had a burger and was really flavoursome. Honestly if you are in the area you won’t be disappointed. Came here again over the Christmas period. Once again cannot fault the food or the staff. Absolutely brilliant service all around. From the moment we walked in was told the waiting time on food but food came out quicker than expected and all to the great standard that has been set since I first came. Honestly one of if not the best place to eat in Dunstable. Lovely food, had the carvery and meat was perfect and potatoes were lovely and crispy. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The other people I was with didn’t have the carvery and there food came out quit quickly. They all commented about how nice it tasted. Will be back again.

Fantastic eating experience, the Sunday roast was excellent and plentiful my family are asking when can we return , freindly staff and welcoming . Highly recommended.

Turned up to have a carvery to be told they only had gammon left at 07:00 on a Thursday! We were then advised by the manager when questioned that they are having a refurb in March (2 months away) so they don’t have food now!!! A waste of a journey and fuel. Booking should be contacted to be advised if the service is not available!! A big shame when they are normally so good. To top it off it was a birthday meal too!!!

Food and service very good. Three of us had a carvery and the choice of meat and vegetables was very good. We were served quickly and starters delivered on time. Pudding was also very good. We will definitely be back soon!

Since price of food has increased so have the pub prices and you actually get less for your money 💰very very bad value considering not long ago it was one of my top rated pubs

Our dinner was very nice. We all had carvery and it tasted fresh. The tables could do with being refreshed as they seem very old. Also some chairs could be recovered. The staff were sweet. They made sure we were happy during our dinner

We came for a friend's birthday. Again it was lovely. Food was great and everyone enjoyed it. Which was nice as we recommended it to them. Staff are so much friendlier here than other places around

We had a great night thanks ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Constructive criticism: 1st time visitor didn’t understand the system. Ordered kids carvery as it was the only thing not greyed out on digital menu. Advice on other items "order via bar" would have been useful

The pub itself was nice, the toilets were clean and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. However, when we ordered food they had several items missing, which was disappointing and they really should have told us this when they gave us menus, rather than when we actually went to order because it meant that we had to go back to the table and look at the menu again. The food arrived quickly but was quite bland and tasted like it had been re-heated, which I think it had given how quick it was. After we ate we stayed for the New Year's party but were really disappointed. It was advertised as an 80s night, but the DJ played very little 80s music and didn't even play the big hits like Wham, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Duran Duran, Phil Oakey, Madness etc. He spent ages playing soul and Motown, then weirdly switched to some 90s dance music, which at least woke people up, but then went back to the soul and Motown again even though nobody seemed to want it. He didn't talk at all except to do the countdown. You would expect a DJ to interact with the audience to build an atmosphere and get people involved. I do also think that the staff should have been dressed up for this too. I probably wouldn't go back, because while nothing was badly wrong it was all just very disappointing.

this was a amazing time for me and my friends, we all got roasts and a dessert(chocolate cake) at the end, the staff were so sweet and the food was genuinely amazing, coming again soon.

The pub was clean, staff very welcoming, friendly and attentive. Food service was slow but as we were meeting family for a Christmas gathering we didn't mind too much as were happy chatting. Food was served hot and to the expected standard for this chain of pubs of which we have visited before.

Came here for a carvery with my daughter. Great service as soon as I stepped in the door. Attentive friendly staff. The guy at the servery, Mark was it? Was very friendly and a credit to the business. Good food and plenty of it. Great little pub, will be back for sure 👍

I booked an evening Christmas meal, for a group of friends and myself, on the night of the Christmas disco. The layout of the dining tables was delightful, the Santa chair backs added a little something extra. The staff went above and beyond to make our evening special. They were friendly, courteous and extremely helpful. Everyone of us was very pleased with our meals. The portions were excellent and the food was delicious. The disco was great entertainment and a lovely mix of festive and well known pop songs. It was an excellent Christmas event. The only thing lacking was more customers. Well done all at Market Cross.

Awful, awful, awful - tablets were stickly, food took over 1 hour to come out, we have our Xmas lunch here for a work event ( 9 people) - poor and disappointing event - will try somewhere else next time

Extremely disappointed eaten here previously and been fine Brought family here last night to celebrate nans 82nd place was two thirds empty which was fine ordered food hour 20 minutes later still not been served numerous complaints to be told trainee chef they have no ovens so it took hour three quarters to microwave 7 meals then eventually arrived food was cold Good luck to anyone who have booked a xmas meal bring sleeping bag as it may be boxing day before you eat Will not be returning

Friendly and kind staff, although unfortunately wasted a journey here as they forgot to cancel the too good to go orders, so drove all the way only to be turned away with no food. Staff apologised but doesn’t change the fact that i now don’t have any dinner to eat and also wasted time/petrol
