Maritimo Wine and Tapas Bar in Plymouth

This is a must place to eat. The food was fantastic. The service was brilliant, friendly staff. We were seated on a balcony seat and it was lovely.

Recently went for an evening meal with my fiancée to celebrate her birthday. Very friendly staff and speedy service, excellent food, atmosphere and view. Absolutely no faults, a stunning hidden gem! We are already planning to come back:)

We've not been to Maritimo for years, and this is a slightly strange review to leave but it's the best staff, service and clientele, I just wanted to say a public thank you. The view into Plymouth Sound is what this place is all about, and this afternoon we went down to the sea front with the family pretty much under Maritimo. Long story short our 5 year old got into a bit of a pickle, and bashed her face, bloody nose and understandably upset. So the Maratimo thank you is to your customers, who alerted your staff, and to your staff, who took time out from what must have been busy Sat service, to run round taking a bag of ice and wipes to help an upset kid with a bloody nose. We weren't customers, it wasn't on your property etc, we were just nearby. I just imagine if that's how you treat randomers in a stressed moment, that your care for your customers, food and service are likely to be top class. Really appreciated. Thank you. We'll come in another week, buy coffees/ice-creams and just say thanks in person. Thanks again Maritimo, a class act, cheers 👍🏼

So I've edited my last review based on my recent last 2 visits in May and June 24. They have defo upped their game with the services, and the food is better. We will continue to visit this place, providing the service stays as good. Thank you for listening!!

My family of four ate here for lunch to celebrate my son's 19th birthday. The food was excellent and reasonably priced, the staff were warm and friendly, and the location was perfect (right on the water's edge). There was also loads of choice for vegans/vegetarians, which made a pleasant change.

We ate here last Saturday and really enjoyed it. Don't be put off by the shabby entrance, once you're inside it's very nice and the tapas some of the best we've had for many years.

Hidden from the street you have to go down a series of stairs into this restaurant. On arrival big windows and great sea views. Great selection of tapas and good quality food. A lush experience thanks

Booked this four months ago and has not disappointed Absolutely amazing food, everything was perfectly cooked and full of flavours too, the wine was perfectly matched as well The chicken thigh dish just pulled apart in the dish I am definatley coming again in the future 😍

I recently planned a surprise birthday for my sister at Maritimos. The whole process was super smooth and nothing is too much trouble for the lovely staff. The birthday celebration was perfect and I want to sincerely thank all of the staff at Maritimos for making it a very special night for myself, my family and most of all, my sister. Opting for the Spanish Spritz, a lovely combo of sweet sherry, Prosecco, ginger syrup and lemonade. It was delicious. The menu is interesting with some tapas staples but some different offerings. Sprouts with onions and pistachios were tasty and their special of albondigas stuffed with cheese in red wine reduction did not disappoint. A couple of glasses of wine from a small but nicely selected range. All in all a really lovely time that did not break the bank. Thanks guys.

Over a year since our last visit and I’m pleased to say everything is as we remember. Although some staff may have fledged the nest the quality of food and standards of service have not altered. Once again, a beautiful atmosphere accompanied by beautiful food, drink, service and views. Please accept our gratitude in accommodating us once again. I’m so pleased to see the passion is still in abundance. Highly recommended.

We got some nice tapas selection as take away for dinner. It was sooo delicious 😋! Fresh, tasty and good portions also. We had about 7 different tapas in between 2 people and we didn't finished it all. Prices also good considering the location and the view. Loved the authenticity of the food also. The lady that took my order (Stacy I believe) was super nice and helpful and she brought my order upstairs when it was ready -thank you! If it wasn't for us to be with a small baby would definitely eat in. Highly recommend the food !

Great food, great location and first class service. The atmosphere was lovely and we had a great lazy lunch in the sun, looking out over sea. Can’t ask for better on a summers day.

Absolutely fantastic, so accommodating for people with dietary requirements, it was refreshing to have a table full of food that I could actually eat. They went above and beyond, the service and food both excellent!

Brilliant food, friendly service, beautiful place to go in the summer as they have a outdoor terrace overlooking the sea. There's a wide selection of tapas and they cater great for allergens/dietary requirements. One of my favourite places to eat.

If I could give zero stars… I absolutely would. After witnessing and experiencing the complete disregard for customers and younger employees feelings and need by the “superior” employees, I will never be coming back. Food took forever to come out and the incredibly lovely and kind young waitress that was serving us was the only enjoyable part of our experience. What’s embarrassing though is I infact recommended this restaurant to my family for our get together. Disgraceful.

Food, service and location this place has it all and if your really lucky to get a sunny balcony table the best spot in Plymouth. Karen and the team work incredibly hard behind and in front of the scenes to give an amazing Spanish experience. From the jugs of refreshing cocktails to the plated tapas. I can't speak highly enough when we visited with the whole family. Well done everyone at Maritimos see you all again soon .

Lived in rural Spain for many years. I would describe Maritimo as average in terms of authenticity and quality but very reasonable price wise. The croquettas de jamon y queso were the highlight. Tinto verano was fine!

Maritimo is such a wonderful place! It's close to the sea and has a relaxing atmosphere. There are many stylish restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy delicious meals and go shopping.

We just happened upon this place while walking along the hoe. We are so pleased that we did. It was a beautiful sunny Friday lunchtime and we sat outside with the most fantastic views and had a really good cocktail. We order 4 tapas dishes between us and they were so tasty. We could have sat there all day if the sun hadn't decided to go down. The staff were really nice and chatty to. When we return to Plymouth we will return without a doubt

Not really well looked after but the food is good.

Just had another fabulous lunch here. I'm a regular and am never disappointed. The food is beautifully cooked, the service friendly and efficient and the views over Plymouth Sound, Drakes Island and the Breakwater are outstanding.

Our large party of 18 had a lovely Xmas lunch at Maritimos, 3rd year in a row. Hidden away but lovely when you discover it. Never been here incredibly, feel guilty and silly for not been before. Cracking atmosphere and although we went for evening dinner, probably outstanding for coffee out on the balcony as well. Stunning food! Absolutely delicious. We tried 5 or 6 small tapas dishes with two amazing deserts. Washed down with Spanish beer and coffee to finish. Food quality was excellent . Very tasty and beautifully presented. Polite staff who did not rush us. Spanish music and decor to top off a wonderful birthday dinner. We will definitely return. Still can’t believe we haven’t been before!

the worst service I have ever encountered, slow and clumsy, we waited a very long time for one beer and a latte which spilled on the table, with not a lot of customers, the place needs renovation, terribly run down, good thing we didn't eat ;)

Friends found this place and took us to it. What can I say but from the start to finish it was amazing . Staff very friendly and excellent service who didn't mind a bitof banter Food was fab especially the prawns and sea bream . It was so nice not to be rushed and sit eat drink and chill with friends overlooking the sea .we will defo return . Thank you for a chilled afternoon

Called in for a coffee and decided beers and tapas looked so good it would have been rude not to try! Fabulous! 5 star food!

Same day booking on a busy Plymouth Saturday should have been a red flag however after a recommendation from a colleague we were delighted to find a slot on Saturday evening to suit our schedule. Upon arrival we were greeted by a young waiter who commented he would have helped with the buggy we had after coming down 2 flights of stairs. We were promptly seated and our drinks order taken. My Wife and I were recommended to pick 2-3 tapas each. We choose 3 each. Starting with the good the Prawns were excellent very fresh with a hint of chilli as promised on the menu. From this point onward food wasnt great. Pan Con Tomate was bland and almost watery tasting. Patatas bravas were covered in the same bland tomato sauce and the potatoes tasted of tainted cooking oil. They were served with alioli this came smartly presented ina paper dish, the same ones you fill with ketchup in McDonalds. The Croquettes were hot and ok. The garlic mushrooms were fine. Now Paella… first for me on this one, obviously the saffron delivery hadnt made its way to the restaurant so the clever chef not wanting disappoint the masses with white rice substituted this with which was very evidently turmeric. Indian Paella not for me… moving on from the below par food offering. Our 7 month old inconveniently it seems needed a nappy change during dinner. After approaching the young waiter we were informed there were no facilities for this to which I replied what do you suggest I do witha grumpy (stinky) baby? His answer, I can clear a shelf in the stock room. Now as a newby father I can say changing facilities ratings is new to me however confidently can say changing a baby on a stock room shelf is by far the worst experience to date for baby change. Fortunately I managed to catch each of the glass bottles of cider my 7 month tried to grab and topple whilst being interrupted by a waitress wondering why a Dad and Baby were in a stock cupboard. Absolutely no apology offered for any of this when presenting the bill nor any offer of helping back upstairs with the buggy. So many good places in Plymouth to eat that I wouldnt even bother looking here.

Just walking round the Hoe last night & dropped in. No booking just a spur of the moment thing. Maritimo will now be on my list to visit on future visits to Plymouth.We ate inside but had a fantastic view into Plymouth Sound. Good menu with lots of choices & I will be more adventurous next time! The staff were attentive & not intrusive. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Service was excellent. Food was excellent & tasty. The only down side was 2 couples from that there London (Northolt) loudly talking about their metropolitan lives & worries (ULEZ & retirement! This did not detract from an excellent evening. Despite the slightly overcast weather, our afternoon was brightened up by the friendly and attentive staff. All Tapas were lovely but the chorizo, jamon y queso and seabass were our favourites ( as well as the curros with a lovely chocolate sauce and we mustn'tforget tje beautiful Sangria). Sea view and terrace is ultimately the selling point! Food massively let's things down. People would be raving about this place if the dishes tasted fresher and more authentic. Felt very much a British take on tapas and not a great one at that. Food quality was so so. A real shame as it's the perfect spot for dinner - sadly we wouldn't recommend it.

Enjoyed a sunny Sunday evening here! Lived up to expectations. It was busy & therefore a short wait for food & drinks menus however service overall was attentive, friendly & the staff were extremely hard working & willing! Fantastic delicious food, we loved that it didn't all arrive at once...that's how it should be and is how it is when you have tapas abroad! It comes out as and when it's ready. Excellent value for money and overall a lovely experience.

As a family we have been visiting Maritimo for four years. Visited in May of 2019 and had poor service and poor quality food. Spoke to the owner who assured if we visited again he would ensure it was perfect. Not the case, revisited 25th of August 2019 and it was even worse. When I spoke to the manageress she assured me that the feedback was welcome but it didn't affect the business so she didn't care. I WILL NOT BE REVISITING. Shame, the premises are in a perfect spot but service is now shocking.

Five of us shared several tapas dishes and we all enjoyed them. I particularly enjoyed the calamari. The churros was a little heavy and gooey for my liking. I would eat there again.

All too often places like this with awesome views don’t have food and service to match. Not this one, excellent food, reasonably priced and great service. Very impressed. Will be one of our go to Plymouth eateries. Well done Maritimo!
