Tamar in Plymouth

We decided to visit to dine and watch the last of the premiership footie! Tanya made our reservation ( by phone ) and was super friendly and accommodating! Arrived to a nice welcome ,Tanya again ,very professional and helpful! Food was very tasty,and great value! And even though was very busy ,all the staff were pleasant and cheery! Again ,' big shout out ' to Tanya,thanks to her we had a lovely afternoon! Thank you.☺️

Six of us went for a birthday meal last night and what a lovely experience we had. Service was fast, friendly and attentive but the food, oh wow the food. It was gorgeous and everyone ate every bit, even the mother in law who normally finds at least one thing to moan about. Not this time. We can't wait to go back.

Previously mentioned the Staff being unhappy 4 years ago. Now the staff are much happier when serving and the food is still great.

Lunch with family and now lovely beef with the roast. Where as before it was from a bar roll. Juicy and cooked to perfection. Veggies really nice. Service brilliant as always.

Excellent Beyond Meat burger and pints

Arrived on an extremely busy day place was rammed and we had booked a table but arrived early. Table was not ready but they made us feel very welcome and did get our table ready early. Food and drinks and service were exceptional even though the staff were really busy. It's not always that good but the last few times have been. Food always good and reasonably priced. Always look forward to a visit to the Tamar and we hold any family birthday or other celebrations there because it's affordable even with a large party. Thanks Tamar!

It’s Monday night so it’s Quiz Night! A great evening with numerous teams competing for a cash prize, in a relaxed atmosphere, where winning isn’t the be all and end all. Good quality food at a reasonable price available while you rack your brains for the answers!

Staff very efficient and helpful but food was awlful we were told no skillets no onions or peas.

I often visit the pub and always find the staff very friendly and helpful. It is busy at times, so you can expect plenty of people at peak times. The food is also good too, not gourmet though, it is a chain pub after all. All things considered, a good pub, well worth a visit.

lovely great value for money food, i went and got chicken and chips with katsu curry sauce and it was the best katsu sause i’ve tried. they’re doing a two for one deal in january, would definitely recommend. plan to go back next weekend lol. portions are huge, photo doesn’t give enough credit, i really struggled to finish this meal

Slightly above average sort of clean and alright food it does the job and the staff are ok they do their job.

I visited family, and it was my first time there. The food was good. Lager was nice and cold, and the atmosphere was excellent. It's been a long time since I saw a pub that was that busy on a Thursday evening. The staff were also friendly and helpful. Would definitely go back again.

Love coming in here. Only tried the food once fish and chips, hence 4 stars for the food as the chips were a underdone. Other than that, great friendly service, the vibe is always nice, also friendly, happy, no trouble..alot of seating, separate eating area, and pool table and darts available..

Excellent meal today at the Tamar, staff were brilliant and couldn't do enough for us , Me Sha Lin and Ju enjoyed our meal, atmosphere was great , such a good place for a very reasonable price , we'll definitely be back 😀 xxx

A proper community pub where the staff really work hard to make you welcome and keep you happy. Not Michelin standard food but doesnt pretend to be, but great pub grub with a great selection thats well cooked and tasty. The heart and soul of the area!

Food was really good and hot , there is also free parking and we will be returning for more delicious food 😋

In my humble opinion. It's a nice pub and very popular, but being disabled and the gents toilets are upstairs is about my only criticism. The ladies are down 3 steps if I remember rightly.

Visited this pub for the first time in years yesterday (Saturday 9th Nov) can only say what a dirty pub it's become. I know it's a pub but the place has gone downhill, service and atmosphere was ok but apart from that when we sat down table was full of plates from last customer with half of the food left ( I now know why) when the nice lady did take the plates she didn't clean the table, sat on a cushioned seat with all the material worn away right back to the sponge padding, on a visit to the toilet with my 7 year old son to wash our hands before we ate there was no soap or even soap dispensers there, having to touch a tap that loads of people have touched after handling their genitals or worse and having no soap is not good enough Tamar! Upon having our food, 2 lasagnes and some chicken strips with 2 orange juices at a cost of £32 the food was mush! Just a lump of cheese/pasta/meat all in one that you could pick up with a spoon, don't understand the good reviews for the food going on what I had and the stomach ache I had after. Won't be going back.

Busy as ever, good selection of drinks

What a great place! We’ve had dinner this week and it was just what we needed. Yummy pub food, but what really stood out though were the staff. It was busy but they seemed to really enjoy it and were so helpful, especially Jayne, I hope I remember her name correctly, such a lovely and professional woman!

Lovely food, we had the two main meals for £14 and it was very good value. I went for the hunters chicken which was very juicy and tender, could have done with a touch more bbq sauce but that was my personal preference. lovely chips. Transit pub, people meet here to go elsewhere. Food is OK, quite a good menu range. Drinks are on the expensive side. Staff work very hard and are very friendly. Similar to a Spoons, but more expensive. Poor range of ciders.

Following a brief business breakfast meeting nearly 12-months ago, I was really impressed with the teams genuine attentiveness and friendly atmosphere towards their customers. Both Sian & Lamorna are particular examples of exemplary customer service, both walking around with a smile on their faces…they can never do enough for you. Traits often forgotten at other venues. As a result, I now meet here for breakfast every Friday, they remember our orders and make us feel welcomed / valued. A+++

Lively local pub with a good selection of food. The staff are friendly, and the portions are plentiful. We had the sharing platter, good value, and honest pub grub.

I popped in on the off chance to see if I could order some food as a takeaway to take to my Dad as he is currently in hospital. All of the staff I talked to with were so lovely and helpful. The atmosphere was very welcoming and friendly, while I sat in and had a drink waiting my order. I ordered the fish and chips and a chicken burger with chips, the food was well packaged, hot and delicious. My Dad was very happy 😃 Fantastic customer service and food. Very friendly place, staff and customers were all very nice and helpful, I am a mobility scooter user and found everybody very courteous and helpful also we had our little Cockapoo dog with us who loved all the attention and fussing he enjoyed the Sausages too 😀

Brilliant atmosphere, staff behind the bar are friendly, and will suggest cocktails that we may like. Staff are talkative which is nice. I didn't have food that's y I haven't rated it.

I have, along with the family been going there for the last couple of months for Sunday dinner. I have something different usually and have never been disappointed. The roast beef rib is a firm favourite amongst us. Always good portions and excellent value. Only had one issue and that was rectified immediately. The staff are excellent, very attentive and friendly, which makes the atmosphere in all the better. I really do not understand some of the ridiculous negative reviews on here. Looking forward to next visit.

We had our first roast dinner today... slow beef rib roast..was absolutely melt in the mouth... this definitely won't be our last...also the jug of cocktails accompanied the meal so well...wish we could have put a picture on here too...that will be on Facebook...staff were as always polite and lovely 😍 👌 well done...xx

Went for a few drinks with some friends and the whole experience was great. The 2-4-1 drinks deals were really good value. The staff were exceptionally accommodating and very friendly. I'd like to give Jayden a special mention. Exemplary customer service skills and an asset for sure to The Tamar.

The staff were great, however the food was awful and the atmosphere wasn't the best. People were vaping in the pub by the pool table, despite signs to the contrary. Again the staff were brilliant.

Waited 50 minutes for a steak and burger, the steak was char grilled, asked for rare.The onion rings were under cooked, the chicken wings were slimy. I had to chase up our meal, there was no apology for the wait, no one checked on us to make sure we were okay. Definitely will not be returning.

A nice friendly atmosphere with a great range of drinks, CAMRA friendly, as are the staff and locals, clean, tidy and safe.

I'm afraid to say what a absolute dirty place. The table was wet from previous customer drinks the menus covered in tomato sauce and to top it of the person who served me was serving customer/member of staff before me and was slagging down another member of staff and she was using the dead man's till. Nor very nice to hear whilst ordering food certainly won't be going back

To be clear, this meal was won by my husband, but the review would be the same if we had paid full price for the meal. The staff, as always, are friendly and helpful, without hovering over you while eating your meal. The Tamar was busy the evening we went, but the staff were still extremely attentive, and the food came out as you would expect when cooked fresh. The menu has had some changes made to it from our previous visit, so we chose some of the new dishes, and they were absolutely gorgeous. The only suggestion would be that the soft shell Taco starter could do with a bit more sauce and heat. The ribs, though, were outstanding, the best my husband has ever had. Thank you, Tamar, as always a lovely visit.

Was here before Argyle vs Leicester game, busy but had a table booked, people had occupied the table, staff moved them on. Excellent service. Food very tasty, exciting atmosphere, Argyles home game helped, Tamar managed really well with so many customers... 👌
