Mario's Fish and Chips in Bedford

Had fish and chips from here and it was delicious packed with flavour and fresh fish. Batter was great crispy but not too dry and the fish had flavour, chips were tasty and perfectly cooked. I was brought up eating fish and chips from a seaside town so no my food and I was a chef for over 35 years so well experienced in food. Great fish and chips and great value for money go check it out now …..thanks guys

As always the food was fantastic; hot, tasty and the scales have also been removed from the fish, which most takeaways do not do. I would not order from anywhere else.

Found a hair in food, went up and complained, one of the men dealing with the food said it looks like a pubic hair, threw it in the bin. Fair enough they offer me some more chips but obviously I said no as I didn’t want a hair in food round 2. I was then offered nothing... seems as I work in a catering business I find this awful customer service & would not recommend.

The delicery was fast but food wasnt great.the bottom of the garlic pizza was burned and thin. The chips were undercooked. Really small portions for chips. Ordered one large and one medium. The medium was just a small handful of chips. I do not recommend ordering

I visit this place and I am from bedford and its the best food you can get on the high street for quick fresh food. What does make me laugh is people moan about the place at 2am in the morning when they are the rudest drunks ever and wonder why the staff from marios have the hump. The food is fresh it’s always hot. I am sorry to say if it wasn’t there enjoy eating the ice out your freezer.

I decided to write this review for the business to acknowledge that bad customer service leads to a loss in return in your customer base. I visited the vicinity just to grab something quick for lunch, just some chips and their brilliant chilli sauce that they do one of the best in Bedford. Every time I am served by the lady I find that when I request for the sauce on the chips she puts on the most minuscule amount possible. On this occasion I went back and requested a bit more sauce over the chips and her reply was that there were other customers in the store and that I was not the only person to serve. She also made me feel stupid by saying the box was upside down and that the sauce was on the bottom. I showed her the chips and that there was hardly any sauce anywhere and if I could have a little bit more. She then added sauce which was a few drops more and I told her that this would be the last time I was coming here I will now be going elsewhere. I felt this was absolutely the worst customer service displayed in my lifetime. She was very rude and had a face on like she was going to box me. The owner mario is very friendly, helpful and every time he serves I find that he gives extra sauce and goes above and beyond in his customer service. This lady is bringing down your business I can see by the negative reviews left on here that majority of them are with regards to her foul attitude. For this reason I will no longer be returning and will actively discourage others from doing so as well. I am a regular customer and have bought food from here many times, which has now been tainted by this experience. My family and friends will no longer be visiting here either and I will make sure to mention to go elsewhere for fish and chips.

Great food, the pizza was nice, but had a slightly burnt taste, very thin as to what I usually go for. But great service and good timing. We asked them to call when they were outside due to a newborn and they did which we appreciate so thank you!!

Tasty food, Just a shame the chips sometimes don’t travel well on the takeaway as they are very tasty when I have ever had them in the shop. otherwise everything was very tasty, well presented & delivery time was nice & quick. 👍🏻

Only tend to go here at 2am after a night out, but always good food and you can get a seat if you time it right. Can get busy and queue for a while, but staff always friendly and pizza and chips are always good.

The reason for my title is that the food from marios can only be described as pedigree chum dog food. The food is absolutely gross. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten here and not had a ferocious time on the toilet the next day. I The staff are awful, the man likes inappropriate pictures on twitter and just looks like a dodgy bloke and the lady well I don’t know where to start on that, she just screams dirty, looks like she hasn’t showered in years and talks to you like you’re an audience member on Jeremy Kyle. The shop itself looks like it hasn’t seen a lick of paint in years and the furniture I would guess cost maybe a fiver per table. They have a bouncer on weekends who looks like an absolute nutter until he speaks and you realise he has Bedford’s highest pitch voice. All in all this has got to be the worst place to eat in Bedford, possibly even England. How it’s not been shut down I do not know because I would guess they have a food hygiene rating of 0.1/5. If they have better than that clearly Stevie Wonder is doing their reviews because it’s an absolute hell hole. But then again if you like getting diahorrea and your food cooked in fresh grease from the lady behind the tills hair then this is definitely the place for you.

Well wrapped. The portions were generous, in fact I couldn't eat it all. The fish was well cooked and the batter light and crispy. My only criticism was the chips were not hot, but warm .

Really wasn't impressed with food at all. Not like it normally is. Maybe new chef but fish was smothered in oil and chips wasn't like normal. Think il give this place a pass for while which is a shame as normally fantastic food

Honestly the best fish and chips, sausage, chicken nuggets I've had from anywhere. The delivery was fast, food was still hot, everything packaged up perfectly, and of course most importantly it truly was gorgeous. Definitely recommend

Quite possibly the worst fish and chips I've ever ordered. Both the batter on the fish and the chips were saturated with oil. Attempts to remove as much oil as possible with a paper towel were pointless as even after you could still squeeze more oil out of the brown chips. I've read the reviews and the owner has stated they've been frying half their life; if the result is brown soggy fries and batter that falls off the fish I'd suggest a change of profession. I'm not going to mention the scampi as at least the fish was edible after the batter had fallen off.

Wow... how can you get chips so wrong? Rancid does not cover it. Never in my life has mayo been lumpier than a leprosy sufferers face.

We had an excellent fish and chip supper, fish beautifully crisp and fresh chips also fresh and loads of everything. Arrived in the time said 30mins and communication and friendliness very good. Thankyou for a great supper would highly recommend. Angela

We used the takeout service one evening on our weekend breat at the Bedford Swan. It was only a short walk from the Hotel. The interior was a bit spartan and the lady serving was really busy. The food, however, was really delicious and very well cooked. The portions were very generous. There were a couple of tables to dine in, but the door was wide open.

So many negative feedback? My food was nice. The sausage in batter was a bit dry but I'm in great denham so I can't complain really!!

Not one that likes to complain, but that was the worst take away I have ever ordered. The chips were the only thing worth ordering. Very disappointed.

I order for 8 turns up at 7.15 my parents had not finished work. I called and was advised it's just eats fault not their own. The pizza was cold and the other meal had to be reheated once my parents got home. The response from the restraint was not our fault.

As always, everything great. Ignore bad reviews. Mario is infamous in Bedford for his chips! I've only deducted 1 star because the garlic bread is a bit too chewy so my mother with a jaw problem struggled to eat it, but that's nobody's fault. Delivery driver very friendly also! Chips lovely, her sausage lovely my veggie burger lovely. Never fails to satisfy my tastebuds x

Don’t let bad reviews below put you off. I have never had a bad meal from Marios, always been really pleased and so far I personally think they do the best kebabs in Bedford. Drivers are always really polite and friendly too.

Nice Hawaiian pizza ordered in store, staff were pleasant. The pizza was good and would have had 5 if it wasn’t a bit burnt on the pizza does underneath which made the crust inedible. I like eating the crusts!! Not bad price at 9.45 for 12 inch and close to park inn so made it a better option than eating a very expensive hotel one.

Really disappointed, order regularly, and usually love it, but this time the chips were hugely undercooked. Not edible at all, big pile of potato :(

i been to mario few times, and always had a great experience,really enjoyed the food and friendly service, one more important thing which i notice that there are lot of drunk people are coming in specially on weekends, ii can imagine how hard is to deal with them,

Like many others on here - got a kebab that was cold and yet swimming in lard. Chips in a similar sorry state. Dumped the lot in the bin without touching. What a terrible place. Only reason I’d ever go back would be to amuse myself reading all the signs saying that salt and vinegar were only allowed to be put on by the staff and various other customer centric gems. Avoid at all costs!

What can I say, nothing to recommend about my first order from Mario's. Food was over 40 minutes late over there delivery time which was an hour after ordering so 1 hour 40 minutes total wait. Fish was cold and much smaller than other chip shops (I orders a large and it was a small at best. Chips were also cold and not cooked at all so we're hard and barely edible. Won't be using Mario's again for delivery!

The lady serving was unbelievably rude, this was my first visit and the staff were shouting and ya and being incredibly unwelcoming. I will not be returning due to this, the portion sizes were very small and the quality of the food was average. I would not recommend visiting this establishment.

Chips were FOUL, undercooked. When I rang to tell them they stated "everyones taste is different" then when I said no they are undercooked he said "well 2 deliveries went out to Kempston so we will get another call then won't we" SO unnecessary RUDE! kept calling me darling really patronising. Said they will send out more but when I asked them to be thoroughly cooked, he said "yeah they always are" will not be coming back and still waiting for the other chips and it's been 40 minutes. Appalling service I wouldn't recommend at all.

Terrible food. How can you undercook chips but still have them swimming in grease? How can have a sausage so dry you could use it as firewood? Binned it. If Mario was to be seen I would have told him where to put it. The woman behind the counter is completely devoid of any customer service skills. Avoid this place like the plague.

I went out on a night out with my friends and family. I was driving so I didn’t have anything to drink. I ordered a marios ‘special’ which was donner meet and chips. The chips were very nice however the donner meet was extremely dry/burnt. The person serving also didn’t seem to have any people skills what’s so ever and treated each customer as if they were drunk! I ended up throwing the donner meat away as it was so dry and tasteless. I would not recommend going there at all, drunk or sober!!

If you like your food swimming in grease then this is the place for you.

This is the first time we had placed an order. We read the reviews of most, and we decided to give it ago. The chips we ordered was 2 mediums as we read that they were small but this is not true, the chips do go a little soft due to the packaging but that's to be expected, but it looked like some of the chips were over cooked (Like they had missed the scoop from the last order and jumped in ours) we also ordered a medium cod wich was about 15cm long and it looked like it had been cut in half from a bigger fillet ( to us it looked like a small portion of fish) and the chicken and mushroom pie was good, it did have the taste that it may have been sitting under the hot lamps since lunch time service. Just a few little tweaks and this would be an amazing chip shop, the food arrived very hot and well within the time stated. We would give it another try.

I wasn't able to get a cheese-less pizza after a night out. Two days later and I'm still very sad as I was really craving a lovely pizza.

Was looking forward to Fish and Chips on My visit to Relatives in Milton Keynes from Spain for a Week, but what a disappointment this place was.

Went here at lunchtime as really fancied fish and chips. The woman serving behind the counter is rude, arrogant, and has a take it or leave it attitude. The place was empty at 1pm lunchtime so now we know why. What a let down. Went here a couple of years ago before they moved from the other shop up the road and this woman was not there as I remember so it was a lot better. A shame really as the food was not too bad although the chips could have been better. Don’t even think about asking for any pepper as you will be told abruptly “no we don’t have pepper as somebody nicked it! “ We even had to ask for clean cups as ours had marks on them, and as you can imagine that didn’t go down well. I would not recommend this place as I know there are much better and especially friendlier places to eat in Bedford. A bit of advice to the owner. A change of staff before she chases away the few customers you have left!

Fantastic food, delivered far faster than I thought it would! They must have cooked it fresh, handed it straight to the driver who brought it to me! From time of ordering to delivery, a mere 15 minutes!! Outstanding!!!

A friend and I went in on Saturday night for chips and a burger. After being served we immediately sat down at a table to eat. My friends cheesy chips were cold. I went back to the counter and informed the staff member who had served me, only to be told rudely there was nothing wrong with the food. After receiving the rude reply I asked for my money back only to be shouted at ‘No! Now go away!’.
