Lakeside Fish And Chips in Bedford

chips are lovely, but you better hope you don’t get served after someone waiting for fish because they go in order, so I wanted one bag of chips and had to wait for the fish to cook and the order to be done for the person in front of me…doesn’t make sense when they could just do my chips and not how any other chip shop do it very frustrating also cash only is annoying!

I’ve been here 3 times and every time it’s been cooked fresh and tasted banging! Portion sizes are a little smaller than I’m used to and prices are reasonable.

Neither of the staff wear hairnet only bump caps, one of the young lads serving foot and chewed a chewing gum, owner too busy to shake fish in the fryer.

Website says the shop is open but twice recently it’s be closed without any warning or notice on the door 😡

Local fish & chip shop but despite phoning for your orders you will still endure a lengthy wait when you go to collect. This happens time and time again. Aside from the poor waiting times and slow service the food is always tasty.

Since Asians started working there, the pub has been forgotten, the fish has no skin so it is of unknown origin, the fries are dry and mixed with old ones. It wasn't that good before the Asians took it over, I won't go back there again

The best fish and chip shop. Lovely fish, no bones or skin and lovely chips. Just note it is cash only but there is a cashpoint nearby.

Are we the only customers to notice how poor the chips are recently, very dry overcooked and cold. The fish is excellent but we want fish AND chips both hot and fresh.

Great Fish and Chips. Fish is made to order and always tastes good. A shame they only take cash but apart from that I can not fault them! Brilliant and highly recommended! Chips are thickly cut and traditionally exactly how they should be! A+!!!

This is always on the regular list. Their chips are not fried with any of the fish so always a plus for Vegi or Vegans. The Chilli is the best. The chips are always nice and fresh and the fat type.. Classic.

Food is good. Only slight downside is the bags the chips come in, makes them sweat very quickly.

Having to wait 25mins for a bag of large chips is not great service. I understand friday evenings are busy however there should be enough cooked to supply instantly.

Good quality fish and chips, slightly odd menu. A bit frustrating that it is cash only but there is a cash point right outside so not the worst. Just have to make sure you have your card, no apple pay.

Serve the most delicious food, had a jumbo battered sausage, cod, chips, mushy peas and curry sauce and every single bit was absolutely delicious and such a great price. Seen comments about the wait time and yes it’s a little long but it’s so worth it because the food is freshly cooked and melt in your mouth. Honestly beyond 5*

My Mum Sister and I enjoyed Cod, Battered Sausages + Beef + onion pie yesterday. Quick meal and no cooking.

Not ideal only popped in for 4 bags of chips waited 20 minutes. Service is very slow and we were not the only ones waiting.I find it a little overpriced but for convenience ypu have no choice to pay the prices. Also cash only need a card machine.

The food itself was great, however the service was slow. We ordered half an hour before we arrived and still had to wait 25 minutes after arrival.

This lovely worker called Hannah served me earlier today. She was ever so friendly and full of joy! Not only this, but the food was to die for (literally). I could munch on those chips over and over again, and the lovely taste of the salt and vinegar would tickle my tastebuds every time. Best fish and chips i’ve ever tasted!! highkey recommend :)💦

Been twice since moving to the area. First time was great, phoned order through and given appointment as requested and got my dinner shortly after arriving to collect. Food tastes lovely and is hot. Second time was a bit mad. Got appointment slot, etc, same as before but had to wait a good 30mins after my appointment time. The staff worked hard but were taking orders over the counter too, which made all appointments behind schedule and pointless. People who had booked were not happy. Due to Covid, no chairs for those who cannot stand for long or customer toilets. So as it stand 50/50 but the food is really good, so i will try again to get a deciding vote.

Before there were new owners, the food was lovely. Cooked properly, staff were amazing. But today we ordered and my brother's burger was over cooked, his bun was covered in blood from the patty. There were hairs in the bag of chips and my nephews saveloy didn't look cooked at all.

Ordered from here tonight and had an awful experience. Despite being ready ridiculously quickly - probably should have been the first clue - the food was terrible. The chips were hard and smothered in salt. The hot dog didn't taste like any sausage I've ever had before, the ribs were all fat with no flavour, the burger was tough and had no taste. Three different meals for three different people with different taste preferences and it all went in the bin after a few mouthfuls. Half expecting food poisoning tonight. Oh and they only take cash which is ridiculous during the time of COVID.

Amazingly good cod - skinless and boneless - cooked to deep golden crispy battered perfection! The regular cod portion is generous and the large cod is huge. They cook to order so it’s always fresh and hot. Chips also very well cooked and are all different sizes so some crispy. Absolutely outstanding meal.

Came first time today but chips seemed over fried or oil not changed, they smell funny and taste not very nice. No sign that they don't take care payments under £10. Credit card users prepare to come with cash

Very poor fish and chips tonight am sad to say. Chips soggy and uncooked,fish batter soggy inside Normally I cannot fault,whether it was because they were really busy and rushed orders I do not know, very disappointing ended up in bin .

Useless service. Was told about 5 mins wait ended up waiting over ten minutes. Staff dont know whether they are coming or going! Ordered chips and sausage chips awful and hard.. Did not give son the sausage as i dont know what the hell it was. But definitely wasnt like any sausage id ever seen or tasted. For the price i would have expected better.. instead Horrid! Gone down hill if u ask me!

We regularly use Lakeside the fish and chips are excellent and they also do other dishes service is very good , but be prepared it does get very busy but you never have to wait to long, the staff are efficient and friendly. Highly recommended

Excellent fish and chips. The fish makes the meal and it was a nice thick cut. The atmosphere is very clean and the kitchen is visible to patrons. Job well done. The company is stellar.

Got a fish n chips takeaway on Saturday 5pm following good reviews on here and was disappointed,we give 3 stars as service was good and fish was ok but chips were awful which considering they were cooked fresh was surprising mushy peas cold and gravy tasteless but wife’s curry sauce awesome we will give it one more try as maybe it was just a blip and previous reviews are so good

We live locally and often use Lakeside,we always find the food top quality and freshly cooked,I don't think we have ever had so much as a bad chip !!

Just do not like giving a one but this is what I have to do. Travelling with my wife towards Bedford on the A6 we decided on a take-away. Checked the internet and we were just a few minutes from the Lakeside Fish and Chips and what's more, it had good reviews on Tripadvisor. Fond the place quickly using sat nav. There were quite a few customers so I joined the queue. I will explain here I have 3 criteria I look for, availability, (we both have diet issue), quality of food and service, the most important for me is service. I waited a couple of minutes and the guy in front said, "you can go in, I have ordered". So in I went, straight up to the counter and there I waited. No one spoke to me. People kept walking over and picking up there orders. So I asked one, "Am I doing something wrong"? "Yes", he said, " You have to place your order over there". I looked where he was pointing and there was a milling lot of people, I could not see a counter. They glared at me, my face didn't fit, I had not ordered first. Still no one, not ever the staff said anything. So I left. I cannot comment on the food, I never got any. The vegetarian choice was very limited but not an issue. So I purely give my score on service of which there was none, only hostility from the others who knew what to do. So why did I score 1? Because you can't score zero.

8:45pm after 2 hour drive. COD and chips, one with mushy peas, other curry sauce. Even though 15 minutes to closing time freshly cooked. Had to be takeaway. Very tasty and sizeable fish, one chips enough for two. Will go again Clean and welcoming, has tables so this is a small restaurant too. Very friendly staff.

Everything you want from a chippy. Friendly, reasonably quick service, good range of options, and good quality food. Undoubtedly the best chippy I have visited in the Bedford area.

Just a little pricey for a chip shop Large chips not so large for £2.50 I would expect double the quality and maybe they could also do with a few special family deals. Otherwise good food

Food is very nice. All fish cooked on order. Sometimes very busy, just wish that they would take the fish order on entry instead of waiting to be served then waiting again for the fish to be cooked.

So lucky to have this place on our door step. Everything is high quality and they really take pride in their food. We eat from here regularly and have compared other local places but there is no comparison. Try the rest then try the best!!!

Chips are fantastic! Good portion sizes. You can eat in too which great too. Lots of choice on the menu.

We phoned our order through and walked to collect it. Beautifully freshly cooked and nice and hot. The large cod was indeed large.

What do I say. I have never been in a fish and chip shop where the service is so slow. I understand they cook fish to order, but the oils is never drained off properly and makes the fish very greasy. When pies are already heated and chips are ready please serve them when they are ordered and not make people wait till after others fish has been cooked. We were so disappointed we travel a little further to get our fish and chips

We visit here quite often and have always had good food and good service. As it is near us it is very convenient, the prices are average and staff are friendly. We will certainly be using it again.

Yo no suelo tomar pescado y patatas fritas, pero algún día cuando me tarde. Recientemente tuvimos cod (era todo lo que tenían) y patatas fritas. Nada malo en particular, porción decente, personal agradable, pero demasiado grasiento para mí. No sé si era un pescado y patatas fritas, cómo es ahora un día o algo más. Les dará otra ve como locales para mí. También he tenido la salchicha, que de nuevo estaba bien, pero no demasiado sabroso.

Un poco escondido, pero de lejos, el mejor pescado y patatas fritas en Bedfordshire. Tiene algunos asientos, pero no el más cómodo. Lo uso como comida para llevar. Tiene algunas cosas interesantes como los tacos de pescado. Vale la pena una visita

Great food, best fish and chips in the area by far!

Popped in for lunch on Saturday and received first class, friendly service - nothing too much trouble. Food was really good - 11 yr old son loved his chicken nuggets, wife loved her fish tacos, I loved my fish and we all loved the chips!! We ate at one of the tables in the comfortable & clean shop. Would definitely recommend.

I heard about this place and hat to try, just outside Bedford mostly takeaway but has nice few seat for sit in and food was best ever had King cut fresh cod and chip cone was just perfect fresh cooked to order words can't actually do it justice I'm rearranging my journey home tomorrow to make lunch it's a must try for any lover of Great Fish n Chips. Was very busy but counter staff were very pleasant and fast. Keep up the great work & service.

Beautiful and not at all greasy, perfect sized portion too, I also had curry sauce which again was wonderful.Would 100% recommend and I will definitely be returning.

We are fussy fish and chip eaters but this was pretty special! Not too much batter and chips cooked perfect. We had to feed over 6 people and they all enjoyed it so we will be back!!

Went to Lakeside Fish and Chips in Wixams, Bedford for lunch with a group of friends. Was expecting average fish and chip shop food but the menu is very different and not like I've seen before. Fish wrap containing salsa, rice, cheese, creme fraiche, and lettuce was one of the best combinations I've ever tasted. They also offered a healthy option of grilled fish which is something I haven't seen in a chip shop before. This was perfect for my friend on slimming world. They provided food that suited us all. Staff were very friendly, and all food was cooked fresh which meant a five minute wait, but was defiantly worth it. Will defiantly be returning to Lakeside.
