I didn't personally like the takeaway chips.

We came here a year to the date 📅 and we really enjoyed the fd it's far best restaurant around the fd is outstanding and we've made it a pact to return every year to have our food the staff are wonderful and it was nice to be back keep what you doing and all the best for the future xxx you deseverve more than 5 stars xx

Swung by here for a fish and chips lunch - staff were friendly, the place was clean, service was quick, and the fish and chips was delicious (and huge!). Would recommend

We had fish and chips here and everything was like should be - quick nice customer sercice, good food, tasty curry sauce,pleasant music and interior. Clean toilet with toilet paper.Recommended!

Have eaten here for many years. But on this occasion, noticed that the food is not as good as it was in the past. We ordered scampi and chips, that was all that came on the plate no peas no salad. The scampi was the cheapest around. Only eight pieces on the plate and two of them had no filling and a little over cooked. When the young girl came with our food she just plonked them in front of us didn't even ask if there was anything else we needed. There was no cutlery, and no offer of bringing us any. No codiments were offered . So in my opinion it's going down hill to what it was. Visited the ladies before I left no toilet paper and not very clean.

I’ve been there 3 times now and found all the staff to be rude and arrogant- it’s completely put me off going again. Gravy is like water, the worst I’ve ever had. Chips are ok (hence the two stars, that’s being generous) and there was more rock solid, tasteless batter on the fish than actual fish- which was also tasteless. Ended up binning my last meal, Won’t be visiting again.

Absolutely stunning place, best fishfinger sandwiches I’ve eaten, service was excellent and we were made to feel so welcome, friendly atmosphere!! Portion size is huge! Definitely worth every penny spent! Everyone on holiday should go here most definitely, and be patient they work hard in there! 😊

Fantastic food as always!! Have eaten here numerous times and can always say it’s top class! The staff are so friendly, prompt service and accommodating. Today I visited with my Dad and had another quality meal. I took my dog in one time and they made sure he had water and a treat before leaving. Would recommend to anyone visiting New Quay 👍🏼🙌🏽

Apparently if your a single person with a baby in a pushchair you are invisible. Took orders from the tables around me but ignored me completely for over half an hour so I left.

Been going to New Quay for nearly 50 years, and have always loved the chips at Mariners, yesterday we went in, waited to be seated as it states as walking in, 6 staff doing nothing behind the counter, took someone nearly 5 minutes to even acknowledge us, said take a seat so we did, choose what we wanted to order, 15 minutes later nobody had come to serve us, it wasn't even that busy, only half full, we walked out, my favourite chips too

We were on holiday 2 weeks ago ,we ate out everyday at this restaurant, food was lovely ,hot ,and enjoyable ,reasonably priced ,baked potato with tuna is divine ,wanted to say what a asset to the place is carina, she was amazing ,happy ,polite and nothing was too much trouble ,she was amazing ,well done ,well worth a visit and we will see you soon

Went here while staying on holiday with family. We had 3 adult fish and chips. It was very nice, but we can't fault the food at all. But the price is a lot £13.50 each and drinks on top but when you by seaside I guess that is the prices so can't moan. Had to change my knife, and forks was a bit dirty. Tables were dirty, and the floor needed a good clean food all over the floors. Staff was OK, not that friendly, but I think it is the nicest chippy in the area as we did go to the captions day later and wasn't as good, so I gave them that. Plus, I do think as it's a dog friendly place should split the dining area into a dog friendly side, as not all children love dogs due to fears from them plus when not your own animal it's nice not to eat with a dog jumping up at you as owner not bothered as you trying to eat.

Dog friendly, amazing food, breakfast served til 12 and welcome staff. Ended up eating here every morning and would highly recommend the vegetarian breakfast though friends had the meat version and said this was superb too.

I ordered a chicken chunks, chips, battered sausage and a curry sauce. The majority of the food was lovely and very much enjoyed it but unfortunately the chicken chunks were rock solid. They had been sat under the heat lamp and were not cooked fresh which was very disappointing as they were inedible.

Best fish and chips I have had for a long time. And the curry sauce is excellent accompaniment No dearer than any other sea front restaurant

First time trying this place today. Sadly it was a little disappointing. The food took a while to come, when it came it was the wrong order, which was quickly rectified. But it was all stone cold ! I could have understood the wait had it of come piping hot and fresh, it wasn't busy and there was no one waiting at the take away part. I should have pointed this out at the time but didn't want to make an atmosphere. Not a cheap meal by any means, nearly £30 for two I only had a small plate of chips to which there was only a handful for over £3.00 ! However The lady who took our order was very pleasant.

Good service ,very clean , portions surprislingly generous, well priced , well worth a visit , an eaterie I will be recommending to my family and friends.

I've been before and loved it then. This time it was as good, if not better. We both had fish and chips, 2 soft drinks and some water. They brought free tap water which was really thoughtful. The fish was freshly fried and chips were proper home made chippy chips. I had salad on the side and it was lovely with a balsamic vinegar dressing. The tartar sauce came in a little pot and was nice and chunky. It was very moorish. I don't usually eat loads of it but on this occasion I wished there was another pot as it was so nice. The staff here are so friendly and helpful and more than deserved the tip I left

I've stayed in New Quay a few times and these are the best fish and chips here. Good peas and curry sauce too. Staff are good, only minor quibble is a small waiting area

A lovely venue with fantastic food. I recommend the traditional breakfast presented beautifully and very good value. The staff are very friendly and courteous. Have eaten here twice now and will definitely return. Thank you

We’ve been to the Cafe before but this time as it was very busy, we had cod & chips with peas & curry sauce for the OH from the shop. The fish was superb & chips delicious… good size portions! BUT the minute carton of peas & sauce was a disgrace…. £3 for the two and served in a tiny pot resembling an espresso container. What was worse, even wrapped tightly by the time we’d travelled the two miles back the pots had become detached from the lids and 50% of the contents unusable. Had it not been a bank holiday I’d have returned to complain. UTTER disgrace. I will return for the quality of the food but will never buy sides again….for £23.40 I feel really disappointed.

We were there today with our 4 yr old girl. Fish and chips was very tatsy . Staff are all amazing especially with my daughter. She was scribbling on a tissue paper and one of the staff saw it and got her a Writing / doodle tablet. I didn't get name of Particular staff who was so kind to my girl , She came and sat near her and was chatting with her . ( Have been to many parts of UK but have never seen anyone being this kind ) While we were leaving my girl was crying as she wanted the writing tablet and they just gave it to her - Thank you so much for being so kind . It really made our day she hasn't kept that doodle thing even for a second 😂 Thank you for everything to staff @ Mariners.

Fantastic fish and chips with friendly service. Good value and decent portions

We called in yesterday evening to pick up a “bag of chips” to add to our dinner. What a fabulous place and two delightful and friendly people behind the counter who cooked a huge box of chips for us. We had one to test in the car and when we got home we thoroughly enjoyed them. Probably the best chips in NewQuay. Thank you for your entertaining hospitality Grace and Sioned I just couldn’t “keep my thoughts to myself “ as my wife and I enjoyed your happy service. Will call in again, thank you.

We had eaten here on previous occasions when visiting New Quay and expected the same standards we had previously enjoyed. The resturant seems to have changed hands and gone through a renovation. The restaurant is dog friendly, which is fine until the dogs, which there were 4 with their individual owners, started to bark and more than once, and nothing was done by the dog owners or proprietors. Given the size of the resturant area, the noise was load and obviously concerned many, including the staff and customers around our table. The initial order of food made was not available and so we had an alternative, beef pie, which contained more vegetables than meat. The freshly cooked chips were OK, plenty of small bits and few actual chips. We ordered 2 teas and only received one small pot. Will probably give this restaurant a miss when we revisit the beautiful fishing seaside town of New Quay.

Had a wonderful breakfast here. Lots of choice. I went for a vegetarian breakfast baguette which was very tasty. We were there the night before eating fish and chips which were also excellent.

We had the warmest welcome we’ve ever received whilst visiting for lunch earlier today. The food was exceptional, fresh and full of taste and all their meat is 100% British! If you visit New Quay the Mariners is a must. I wish I could give this place more stars! Diolch!

Great little cafe, dog friendly so your pooch can go inside with you whilst you eat. The staff even came and fussed our dog. Menu has loads of choice, portions are huge & the food tasty. Restaurant & toilets spotlessly clean. Thank you!

Spot on! Really exceptional service and the staff are all just lovely. Spent several hours meeting a colleague and the staff were so helpful and friendly whenever we ordered. I also noticed they were brilliant with all the regulars that came in. Coffee and food were spot on too.

Visiting Wales for new year's and found this chippy open. The service was fantastic and friendly and the grub was amazingly good. Their home made chilli was delicious. The portion was huge for the fair price charged. We will definitely be coming back. The staff are a credit to this restaurant.

Like all three chips hops in New Quay it has changed hands this last year. Have only been in over winter but love it. Nice food , nice staff, reasonably priced

Weather not great, dolphins were splashing about. There are some new postcards in the corner shop. Food was tidy although I'm not keen on Pembroke potatoes, I actually enjoy them as I soak up the pleasant Christmas atmosphere with a pot of tea, reasonably priced. Thank you,

Highly recommend!!! As a family of 4, we love this place! Popped in for drinks and food, which were so tasteful, and the service was really welcoming. Staff are very polite and smiley, which is rarity now abays. If you're in New Quay pop in, you won't be disappointed

Oh my floof, we had the most wonderful visit today at the Mariners. Dog friendly is an understatement. It was heaven for our fur baby Shelby. The staff were so welcoming & made it an absolute pleasure to stop here. I have no hesitation in recommending them. 5 stars doesn't seem enough. The only sad part is that we are on holiday, if this was local to us we would definitely make it a regular visit. Thank you to all of the staff for your kindness.

I only wanted a quick snack to get me through to supper, much later. However, it's obvious that this establishment has recently changed hands. Very disorganised. If you want chips or something to take away you have to go into the small serving area, but if you want a takeaway coffee, you have to go into the main restaurant area. No sugar was offered for the coffee. No salt and vinegar offered for the food. The young lady that served the coffee took it through to the chip shop side, so as I could pay for everything all together. Why couldn't they have done that to start with, instead of making me go from one to the other. Made no sense. I'll go to the Captains in future.

Came here today and will never go back staff were friendly however chips were cold and soggy as if left over from lunch, only 3 tiny chicken nuggets wich were to hard for kids to eat , cheese and leek risolle was doughy and soggy , overall awfull experience .

Best. Chips. Ever! So tasty, seriously I can't get enough! I have milk and soya allergies and the server checked what I could have and it was pretty much anything so I was quite taken aback because most chip shops use milk in batter and soya in sausages. 100% recommend this place.

My wife's food was ok, but it was possibly the worst fish and chips I have had in the last decade! Very dry fish with really thick batter which was very greasy and the chip where awful as well, despite taking up 1/2 the plate there must of been only 10 full chips the rest were all little bits. All of which where over cooked at must of been through the fryer twice. I told the girl when I paid, she said I should tell the manager...but didn't actually offer to point out who that was. My daughters fish pieces and chips was unfortunately as bad as mine, luckily she had a massive milkshake so was abit full otherwise I would of had to get her something elsewhere.

We called here for the first time yesterday evening, since it's been taken over by new owners. We had the tastiest meal we've had in a ling time, absolutely stunning. The chips were crispy outside, fluffy inside, and the home made chicken curry was delicious, with lots of tender chicken pieces. My partner opted for the chicken n bacon pie which was on the special board, and again, was absolutely fabulous. Well done to all the staff. Will happily call again soon xx

As good as ever and as good as it gets. Back for another holiday in NQ and the 1st port of call is always Mariners. Fantastic take away. 5x cod + chips, scampi + chips, jumbo sausage + chips, fish bites kids meal (incl drink) and a cheese and leek risible (never seen one before, really tasty if a little dry) all for under £58! Crazy value for such quality. Amazed to read in reviews that there are new owners. They haven't dropped the standards at all. Those chips 💖 ...... See you later in the week.

Great food and great value, dog friendly

We ended up here by chance because the Haven site quaywest was not open til 11.30am and we wanted a breakfast. I had the Vegetarian brekkie which was really nice it had everything on it that I wanted and my hubby had the traditional brekkie which he said was the best he had had in a long time the staff were very helpful and more than accommodating towards our dogs and it was a relaxed atmosphere and we will definitely be back tomorrow 👍👍👍👍👍

Terrible customer service!. Customers looking around to be acknowledged by staff, some even walked out! Service was awfully slow. Coffees need a lot of work too! Overall really different disappointing experience since this place changed owners.

After visiting the Mariners for the past 10 years we have been left very disappointed this year, home made rissoles were awfull and tasteless from previous years,the quality of the fish has reduced massively,and curry sauce was very salty,guys whatever changes you have made since last year,a change back is needed,and paying over 30 pounds with an incorrect order as well has not gone down well,it will be the Lime Crab for us for the rest of our holiday

Slightly disappointed with the food as our chips were cold and batter was very moist, staff were polite and atmosphere was nice but wouldn't rush back for food unfortunately 😕

Came to Newquay yesterday (Saturday) and saw on the blackboard the Yorkshire pudding roast dinner wraps were being served the next day (Sunday). So so so glad we travelled back an hour to come and try it out as we were not disappointed. The restaurant is immaculate and the staff were incredible! Got to say it’s one of the best if not the best roasts my partner and I have ever had. 100% would recommend!

We were a family of four, there at lunchtime on a Sunday. Two of us had the Yorkshire pudding wrap, one had ham and one had the cod and chips. All of it was delicious! Arrived piping hot and perfect. Excellent quality and portion sizes and top drawer service.

Went here for brunch having been a few times before and as always the choice of food is excellent. Went for the breakfast and was absolutely lovely like all other meals we've had here before. Took our dog with us this time and it was a really pleasing experience, with quite a few tables allocated for dog owners. Would highly recommend the food, service is excellent and the fact that dogs are also allowed is now another plus factor. Diolch

Visited 19th April 2023 was 3 in the que.waited 20 minutes to be served. Was to busy serving customers in restaurant side. And then had to wait again with a order number. Fish was mostly batter and very greasey.wont visit again.. Ololo

We have visited a couple of times since the new owners have taken over. We have always had a great welcome and the food ranging from breakfast to Yorkshire pudding roast to fish and chips have all been delicious. No complaints from us, we will be seeing you soon. Diolch/thank you

Totally disappointed at the takeaway always used mariners and has always been excellent but yesterday was awful asked for cod bites and chips cost £7.64 chips were rubbish and two small bits of batter with fish in the size of a finger nail then two more bits of just batter sorry mariners will not be using you again

The gluten free options are severely lacking, you’re fine if you like chillie, as that’s the only option they had for any ceoliacs that visit. Left a member of our party feeling extremely disheartened and left out. The food and service is great, very friendly staff and the wait times were good.

We visited New Quay beach yesterday and needed somewhere to eat for the family. We chose mariners fish shop as it looked clean and prices were very reasonable. It was also packed so we took this as a good sign! I got the kids a kids meal that included a drink and it was £4.99 which to me was very reasonable given its location. I had the cod bites and chips. Costing about £7.50 which again I can't complain. The chips were cooked perfectly just how I liked them and the cod bites were beautiful too. The only critism I could say was the cod bites were £4.99 and I got about 6 but they tasted great hence the 5 star. Will be back if we come back to the area :-)
