Lovely pub overlooking the sea.

Lovely room with sea views . Staff very friendly. Breakfast and evening meals good . Only one negative . We asked for a toilet brush in the bathroom as don't like leaving someone else to have to do it and was told that Matstins don't allow them in their bathrooms . Very odd . Otherwise couldn't fault our stay

We had a wonderful stay at The Penwig. The staff were lovely who greeted us and we were shown to the lovely room 8 that was a great set up and lovely and clean. The beds were so warm and comfortable and the ladies were lovely at breakfast too. Thank you for helping us have a wonderful stay at the Penwig, we’ll definitely be back soon xxx

I had a wonderful stay at the Penwig Inn! The Hotel was cosy and welcoming, and the evening meal was absolutely fantastic. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and the service was attentive and friendly. A truly memorable dining experience that added to the charm of the stay. Highly recommend the Penwig a hidden gem!

I recently stayed at the Hotel and had a wonderful experience! The rooms were of a very high standard—spacious, spotlessly clean. The food in the pub was fantastic as well. Both the evening meal and breakfast were delicious. The service was attentive, and the atmosphere made dining there a pleasure. Overall, the combination of excellent accommodation and superb dining made my stay at the Penwig Hotel truly memorable. I’ll definitely be returning and would highly recommend it to others!

Great place to stay, great location in the Village & accessible to the Welsh coastal path. Our room (No1) was a decent size, but with a tiny bathroom, reasonably warm, big comfy bed. This place is only let down by its main meals, not much choice, overcooked & tasteless & a billion chips with everything, tastes like they use the cheapest ingredients for their food, breakfast is better tho, but don't have the cooked breakfast that's tasteless too. Gorgeous porridge & the omelette was nice to. Very friendly staff, cannot fault them one bit, very helpful.

Watched the dolphins in the bay and had a great drink with some good food. Lovely place which is calm and relaxing. Great staff who are friendly.

We had Christmas dinner, and I’ve never had such bad food, first course was edible, then the main meal came out cold, asked the manager to put in microwave, came back , Yorkshire pudding like leather, red cabbage , was I don’t no, roast potatoes like leather, how main times they been reheated, carrots you can’t mess a carrot up, broccoli, totally uncooked, meat and gravy was edible , Afters came cheese board, just came out of fridge, so not the best, And to top it off try to get served was a nightmare lack of staff, and we all preordered so they new how many people coming,

Great lovely room, AMAZING FRIENDLY STAFF INCLUDING KITCHEN. great beer and service. Only one complaint and it's not the pub or staff. My food was cooked beautifully but the cuts of steak are the worst I had. Again, pub not to blame for the meat supplied to them. Will definitely stay again, just won't order steak

We only popped in for a few drinks, friendly helpful staff who took their time to explain the different cocktails to my friend. All cocktails were made with branded spirits (not cheap, poor quality ones). We didn't eat there, but the food coming out looked great, and those eating were commenting on how good it was. Dog and child friendly.

We spotted this Hotel from Key West Caravan Park, through the binoculars. We booked a table online & arrived shortly after. Food arrived piping hot & it was very enjoyable. The staff were friendly & polite too! Despite visiting New Quay often we haven’t been in until now. We are planning on returning throughout our stay in New Quay & will visit again on our day trips to the village in the future.

We booked on a Sunday as we wanted a Sunday roast which is advertised on their website. Unfortunately when we arrived we were told they were not doing one even though there was no mention of no Sunday lunch on their website. Very disappointed

Very friendly staff, very dog friendly, excellent food. I really enjoyed the chicken kebab and the portions sizes were huge! They even cooked a sausage for my dog.

During our recent vacation in New Quay, we ate at the Hotel Penwig on three occasions - once for breakfast and twice for dinner. The food was great and the service was excellent. They were short staffed one night, but the gentleman at the counter made sure to explain the situation, advise us that it may take a while to get our food and apologize for the delay. We had a couple of drinks while we waited and the sandwiches were worth the wait.

Awful experience - served still frozen food! Menu items weren't available on a Saturday evening as they had run out. The app showed items that weren't on the menu and others that were available not on the app! Trying to order for our group was chaotic to say the least. Items were missed from meals when brought out. When I asked for the side that came with my meal I only received part of it. And what I did receive was still frozen. I would avoid in future. In fairness I received a full refund for my meal, but only because I asked...

Excellent beers, great staff, views unbeatable across New quay harbour towards Aberaeron and Aberystwyth... Food is an OK add on. 😁

Fantastic experience, best food Ive ever had from a pub restaraunt. Workers were absolutley outstanding too, very helpful and communication with us was brilliant. Food came in quick time too. Would definitley recommend to others and would come again.

Lovely place to have food and a drink, looking over the harbour with the boats, friendly staff and spacious eating area. Only downside was portion size for the soup, leek and potato with warm half baguette ( which went really crispy when cool), never had such a small bowl of soup.

The Penwig is a great place to visit whether it be drinks with friends or a family meal. Lee and the team have do a fantastic job and deserve the praise for such a welcoming establishment. We dropped in for lunch, food was amazing and service excellent. Thanks all !

Came to eat here as we’ve visited before when we got married in Wales in April 2023 and really enjoyed it. Had another great experience, staff were really friendly and the food was great. If we ever visit the area again, we’ll definitely be back for more!

My recent visit to the Penwig Hotel Restaurant was nothing short of exceptional! The food was absolutely amazing—fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. We always go there when we come on holiday as the staff are fantastic and we had a meal there and was served by Mandy who was absolutely brilliant and very welcoming and helpful and made us feel really comfortable.

The pub was very busy, however the chap at the bar suggested we wait while he doubled checked. He delighted us by saying he could fit us in. Great customer service from all the staff, happy to have a chat and all seemed very happy and genuine. Food arrived promptly despite a sign saying a 45 mins wait, which was a bonus. Food was lovely, only slight disappointment was they had run out of crumble! But alternatives were just as yummy 😋

I went in today at 10.45am with my family to get breakfast, which is served till 11am, to be told that we were unable to order as there was not enough food. The lady behind the bar clearly did not want to be working there, as she appeared unhappy and made us feel like an inconvenience. When I asked if we could instead order lunch, she then told me the kitchen was closed. Top notch customer service right there, if in the area I would not waste my time visiting this establishment.

Went for breakfast this morning en route for a boat trip. Table by window with a fantastic view. Food was lovely. Was asked before ordering if there were any allergies or dietry requirements which was brilliant. Had a look at the lunch and evening menu whilst there, pleased with all the veggie choice, so different to other places in New Quay. Staff were so friendly too. Would definitely recommend and will visit again when down west. Dioch yn fawr 👍

Disappointed with the service from this pub while visiting on holiday. Unfriendly and unhelpful staff, talking to each other while customers waiting. We used the QR code at table waited 15mins for drinks to be served, went in to talk to staff about order to be told the chosen drink was not avavailable. We were then refunded whole order without being asked.

This was our third time we've visited Penwig. Food is always good, as far as cheap easy to cook pub food goes. YOU NEED MORE BAR STAFF! 1 PERSON SERVING 90% OF THE TIME! Clearly well understaffed and the staff they have got are clearly overworked. Get more staff in guys.

Big disappointment booked online a Sunday visit as saw lovely looking roast dinners for my 3 young granddaughters My granddaughters all excited, we turned up to be told by a very unfriendly youngish man with dark hair when I asked do they have all the meats for the roasts to be told quite matter of fact "we don't do Sunday roasts " I replied but they are on your website menus and his reply was "oh that should be taken down as we don't do them "very mattet of fact with no consideration as my 3 girls were very hungry after swimming and were excited (we were om hol iday)he said we haven't much left on the menu, it was 4pm. He was quite rude and didn't seem to care l. Needless to say we all left and had no food. I'm very disappointed as it is a Marstons restaurant and i will be reporting it to their H.O. Give this place a miss and update your website Marstons or check on your Chefs !!!😡

AWFUL… had barely anything off the menu we got up and walked out

do not even bother coming here if you have any dietary requirements ! absolutely abysmal service & little to no options for vegans / vegetarians or even allergies + on top of that got served the tiniest bowl of chips that were ice cold and rock hard (was the only vegan friendly option when i went)

Have visited the Penwig many times over the last few years, staff always welcoming and friendly, food always excellent and a great range of beers, spirits etc etc. My wife and her mother have also stayed at the hotel for a few nights and the accommodation was excellent. We last visited last Saturday, 4 adults and 2 children, all selected different meals from the menu and all were just perfect. We have also visited last October on a bleak, cold, rainy evening, after our meal we sat outside (we are smokers), our outside table was undercover and there were outside heaters, snug as bugs. We will just keep going back as we love it.

Monday 19/8/2024 Awful meal the mixed grill had an egg on it that you could use as a frisby it was so hard and brown and the steak was inedible raw and chewy. The chicken burger came in a bun with fried chicken and brown lettuce, we complained and they brought it back the same! You would not serve this food to your dog! Won’t be returning awful service and as far as the food is concerned the chef needs sacking!

Pub-style restaurant with TVs everywhere and the sound is too loud to eat. But a good atmosphere. The meal is good, but nothing more. On the other hand, lack of cleanliness, sticky tables, dirty menu cards, dirty floor with salad on the floor when we arrived. Some regulars come and drink several beers while slumping with their feet on the table and no one says anything. And, finally, we let the dogs in and some allow themselves to sit them on the table (yes!), so it can't be very clean. In Wales the dog is king, he goes everywhere and as a result there is a big hygiene problem.

Food was of a very good quality however due to the service of the bald man behind the bar who seemed to be in a rather horrid mood it made our family feel rather unwelcome.

It's ok. At best. Pub. Grub not done great. Slowwww service. If you need to eat with kids in this area there's not a lot of choice really.

Pop in for breakfast on Sunday the staff are lovely and the prices are reasonable to and quick with service the views are amazing when sitting out side on a sunny morning would recommend it to anyone 😊

This place delete bad reviews so thought it only right to leave another. Due to the small bald chap with a terrible attitude they missed out on a extended family of 7 who abruptly finished their drinks and left to go elsewhere for dinner. Had been before bit sadly won't be visiting again and didn't for the duration of our weeks stay

Just Stopped for a pint and bite to eat (homemade lemon drizzle cake), almost stopped for too long. Friendly staff and locals! Nice views too.

What a shame. I don't like leaving negative reviews, but this place is a shambles. An hour and a half to get our food on a relatively quiet Sunday with only half the tables taken... and only then because we chased it. We were not told they were running behind or we'd have eaten in one of the many other places in town. Food was average at best and not worth the wait, no apology, no offer to make up for the wait. I advise going elsewhere

We stayed in the accommodation for two nights, as well as taking food (once for dinner, once for breakfast), and drinks. From check in to check out, a super friendly team looked after us at every interaction. Room was clean, tidy and exactly what we were after. Food was all served a reasonable time after ordering, all hot, and no complaints at all. Drink choices were plenty varied, and what we had was well served (cold, fizzy etc. where you'd expect them to be).

Excellent service provided by Stuart and Mandy, but the pub was packed and there was not enough staff on to cope. Stuart and Mandy worked so hard to try to accommodate everything that was thrown at them. I feel that more staff should have been on because you could see how stressed the staff were even though they were managing to cope, just about. We are regulars in this pub and would suggest with the current promotion that is in place and the added foot volume more staff are in place.

Nice place,food took a little long as didn't tell us no curry left till we had been waiting 20 mins. That aside it was busy and food was fine.

Came for food and stayed to watch the Euros... Colin (the main man) quickly rejigged our reservations so we could stay put on the same table with a good view of the tele! Plenty to choose from on the menu, including some specials. Good veggie options including veggie burger and cauliflower kebab. Brains cask beers (SA Gold, SA and Rev James) all available, reasonably priced, well kept and tasty. Friendly staff team. Great views of Newquay harbour and ideal dolphin spotting.

excellent friendly service, we always make sure we visit when we holiday near by, and after this weekend will definitely be back later in the year.

Went here Wednesday and Thursday while visiting the area. The staff are fantastic. there is one man who was really great but didn't catch his name. The food was so nice that we had to return again the next day. Had curry night on the Wednesday and steak night on Thursday, and the food was really nice best I've had in a very long time. The price of the food is fantastic would have took photos but looked to good to wait 😂Plus, when you sit outside looking over the sea, it is so beautiful this place is in the best spot, this is the best place to eat in this area.

A room with an awesome sea view. No balcony but that was no problem as it was cold! The bed was comfortable, the window large enough to sit on and plenty of teas and coffees. Only minor thing was the tiny shower cubicle, wouldn’t stop us returning. The location is fantastic, close to the beach and centre of town. Breakfast was generous and set us up well for the day.

Perfect location . Best place to sit and have a drink overlooking bay . Nice modern room (room 4 ) seaview.Comfy bed but NO pillow protectors , i slept on my towel over pillow . Must get pillow protectors though asked cleaner for them and was told its Marstons policy to not use them . Never been anywhere before that dont have all bedding protectors. Bathroom though very dirty .Mould on ceiling above shower just needs a wipe , dirty gungy extractor fan , rusty slime on soap dispenser over sink . Black smudge on shower skirting board , thick dust ontop of sink light .All just needs washing . Unscrew bathroom light and get all black bits out .Would of been nice to have cleaned before customer arrives , i saw as soon as walked in the bathroom so dont know how cleaners miss this . Very cheap thin toilet rolls. Good breakfasts .Main food ok . Lee behind bar smiley and friendly as was barman with ponytail . Bar was nice , love the touch of fairy lights but the white chairs were very black ( dirty from hands) again need washing or repainting . Dog friendly place so thats good . Would stay again if could just improve on the cleanliness of bathroom and got all bedding protectors as it has the best central location and great to sit on front having a drink watching the dolphins in the bay .

Ordered 2 steak and ale pies, when they arrived both stone cold, staff didn't appear bothered, waited 15 minutes for replacement meals, the pastry was so over cooked it was like cardboard and the steak was practically non existent, the gravy was like water not even offered a complimentary drink, how difficult is to heat a pie 🙄
