Marine Hotel Restaurant in Hartlepool

Got married here. Everything was perfect from the rooms the guests stopped in, the buffet at the wedding and all the staff were spot on.

Lovely food well presented. Lovely and clean. Then it went downhill. We ordered lunch with coffee and coke . Lunch came minus the coffee, the young lady behind the bar had to go and find out what had happened to the coffee. When we had finished lunch with the knives and forks in the middle of the plates was completely ignored by the young lady who was supposed to be waiting on table . She walked past the table at least four times still ignoring the finished lunch plates then went into the corner to talk to her friends. We had ordered ice cream and had just about given up the young lady behind the bar asked if we were ok and we said we haven't had our puddings yet, so she had to go and find out what happened to the puddings. Meanwhile the waitress was busy having a drink behind the bar . I have never commented on a member of staff before. This is verging on the ridiculous as far as customer service goes. I don't think that we will be going back anytime soon .

Came to The Marine for a wedding fayre and decided to have some lunch whilst we were there. Four of us had various baguettes (turkey and stuffing, pork and stuffing and roast beef) with chips and gravy and one had a chicken Parmesan. The food was beautiful and the staff were really friendly. We could not fault any of the service and will be back for food again. The wedding packages sound perfect, however I do think having the option to book out the whole place (including all of the bar area) would attract a lot more wedding parties. My friend is looking to have her wedding there and due to her high numbers, would have liked to book the bar area too but unfortunately this isn’t an option. Something to maybe consider for the future?

Visited here for the first time today. The interior is lovely and looks like it has recently been refurbished. The staff were very friendly, and the service was very efficient. We enjoyed a lovely lunch and the beef baguette and home made chips were delicious. The portion sizes were great and the prices are very reasonable. We will definitely return as we live locally

The Marine Hotel is a beautiful building right on the coast road with wonderful views. Their carvery is wonderful, fresh food, lots of choice, and it's all very good !! The staff are very helpful, the bar serves decent beer, and the whole place is well worth a visit ...

Order the gammon &egg for dinner gammon did not taste right told a member of staff I believe to be Emily Manager of Entertainment full meal given back was offered a portion of chips in replacement. Absolutely disgusting to be offered this have put a Complain in to the Manager never again will I eat there again.

I’m not one for writing reviews, (usually only if I’m annoyed about something to be honest) and although I frequent different hotels and hotel chains on a weekly basis, I have written maybe 2 reviews in the last 12 to 15 years. That said, I have to comment on the Marine Hotel and specifically the quality of the food in the restaurant. I have just had, what I would say is, by far, the best battered cod, and chips, I have ever tasted…and trust me, I’ve tried a lot! I relished every morsel and I’m now looking forward to my next meal with anticipation. I give it a solid 10/10

My wife and I both had gammon steaks. We could not finish the whole dish, even though was it was delicious.

Went for a carvery today, £9.99 each for a carvery, gammon and beef, with big yorkshires, stuffing, all the extras you want potatoes, parsnips. Quick service and delicious food - do not miss!!

Lovely staff, helpful and full of information about the area. The breakfast was tasty and plentyfull. We have stopped here a few times. Usually in room 19 but push the boat out for our anniversary and stayed in the marine suite. Brilliant,same veiw but bigger. Love to wake up and see the sea. Great place to explore the area.

We went into the Marine Hotel for some lunch today and I can state for a fact we will be coming back the food was amazing the presentation was spot on and service was second to none. We ordered the fajitas, Scampi, and the hot shot Parma as you can see from the pictures you could not fault it 5 Stars

Stayed in the hotel here. Used the bar and restaurant regularly. Friendly service, excellent menu, nice atmosphere. Highly recommended along with the hotel.

Stayed here for two days and would love to stay again, very friendly staff who checked our needed regularly but not overwhelming, the room was spacious and clean as was the rest of the hotel. Keep up the great work 👍😁

Three of us called in Sunday afternoon around 4 for a carvery dinner. Smiling friendly bar staff, carvery staff and waiting staff. Excellent, well cooked food, flavoursome, tender beef, (3 other choices were on offer) roast and mashed potatoes, and a choice of 7 veg. Plus huge obviously home made Yorkshires that took a ladle full of gravy. Recommended.

Me and my partner came through to Saltburn from our home town of Catterick Garrison for the day, due to the lovely weather. We thought instead of getting the standard fish and chip lunch, we’ll have a nice cooked meal and that’s exactly what we got. The Scottish man serving was lovely and polite. The food was incredible, we waited a little longer than expected but it’s all cooked to order so it didn’t bother me, I would wait that length of time anywhere if it meant I was getting food like that. The prices were very fair as well! Overall, really pleased and if we’re ever in Saltburn again, I’ll be paying another visit.

As stated in the title. Gammon steak, chicken were overcooked, the onion rings were really greasy and the baked beans and tomato ketchup were poor imitations (kids meals). Avoid.

Visited many times prior to lock down but first visit on Sunday 5th July since reopening. Easy to book a table in restaurant and bar (though bar was busy as football was on, with no sound,so we were lucky!) Establishment has all Covid-19 protocols in place. Still great and realxing atmosphere. Chef served the carvery. Great choice, think meat, one course £7.95 (though cheaper on a weekday £6.50) and only a few pounds more for a 2 or 3 course lunch. Well done everyone!

Favourite place for lunch when we are over this way . Carvery with meat carved and served onto a hot plate - beef pork turkey and gammon with large Yorkshire pudding .Help yourself to hot vegetables with a great choice .Hot gravy with all the condiments to help yourself . Food was very good .With friendly helpful staff . Desserts looked yummy but we were too full to try one.

Clean very spacious suite with sea view. Our suite had very comfy double bed with a sofa then an upstairs attic type room with single bed & bathroom with nice bath. Room had window overlooking sea then window at back looking over park. Pub grub in bar or carvery restuarant. Very good value food. Only complaint was fire doors slamming loudly. Other guests had same views. Staff very friendly & very helpful.

I've stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions over the past 15 years. Management have made a number of improvements, but it could do with more if it wants to be classed above average

As a place to eat for good quality, good value and great taste Sunday Lunch look no further than the Marine Hotel. Lunch is served in the dated dining room/restaurant, and has a regular clientele, as well as groups celebrating birthdays, anniversarys and even first holy communions. If yo uare in a gorup or a couple the servic eis great, - the majoirty of people on a Sunday opting for the carvery option - a choice of 4 meats and fresh veg which is constantly being replenished. Free parking (as long as you remember to log your car deatils as you go in) all add up to a great value Sunday lunch option

Went here for lunch with family, very clean, well appointed with friendly welcoming staff. Went for 3 courses at £8 per head, starters were excellent, main course the meat was very well cooked, very tender. Vegetables were ok, but needed to be as good as the meat. Desert was ok.It was all edible, but a little more care and attention and it could have been delicious. Would go again.

I have just returned home after celebrating a wedding at the Marine hotel, The staff couldn’t have been any more helpful, the service was excellent and with a smile, they never stopped all day long and into the night, and made the day by participating with the North East singing waiters.The food was served hot despite the volume of guests, well presented and of a high standard.The hotel was reasonably priced, clean, and the room was bright and airy and the bed very comfortable. Thank You all for your hard work it didn’t go unnoticed and making our friends day special, you all went that extra mile keep up the good work.

Stayed at the Marine over Easter weekend on a trip home to visit friends. I usually prefer to stay at a branded hotel so I know what I'm getting but took a chance on the marine. I was not disappointed. From the friendly check in staff to the comfortable room with fantastic sea views. The room was spotlessly clean and the staff were so helpful. I'd read some reviews online before arriving one where someone complained about creaky floor boards! I think i encountered one on the visit but in such a beautiful old building this just added to the experience. Breakfast was very nice and the servers were very friendly and helpful, if I had one complaint it could only be that breakfast finished at 9.30, on a weekend I personally prefer a later breakfast so I can lay in bed longer (First World Problems!).Check out was smooth and painless. Overall I would thouroughly recomend the Marine for any trip to Hartlepool.

Group of 7 visited today . Service and quality of food was wonderful at a very good price. Some of us had the carvery . The meat was Excellant, plenty hot fresh vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. Those of us who ordered off the menu were equally impressed. Arranged our next get together there without hesitation. Highly recommended.

I'll qualify that by saying the other one is closed. Its cheap, clean and the breakfast is good. However the shower is comedy you have to go hot, then cold and catch the brief moment when the temperature is transitioning between the two. Don't waste your time thinking it will settle down and eventually reach a happy medium, its my second visit and fourth shower, except the facilities for what they are and crack on. The floor boards can scare you as they creak on the way in and then creak back randomly through the night. However the staff are friendly and it is very reasonably priced

Went to the marine hotel for the first time and the food was lovely there had a offer on for 2 people a 3 course for £12 bargain which included a carvery lunch. The cheese cake was to die for all home made and good size portion. Will definitely be visiting again soon

The positives were that the bar staff were friendly and the room was large. The room had probably been fairly recently refurbished, but in a style that probably recreated the style of the previous refurbishment. The shower was properly comical. It had two temperatures, centre of the sun hot and Seaton Carew beech in January cold. No amount of the tiniest of adjustment could change this. However this was nowhere near the most annoying feature. It was the floorboards tbat really warrant special mention. Every footstep generated an almost comical creak. This would have been mildly amusing had it just been my footsteps in my own room. However it sounded as if every single person moving around the hotel trod on a floorboard that ran the length of the hotel and straight under my carpet or across my ceiling. This meant that i could trace the exact movements of the person who got up at 5.15am and wandered around until 5.45am and then the movements of all the other guests who got up before my alarm went off at 7am. Well I thought as a rolled around in bed there is still the scalding/ice cold shower to look forward to !

A lovely room with a sea view. Excellent value really good full English breakfast again seated near window which gave a good view of the seafront.

From Booking in to this Hotel to Leaving (THIS HOTEL ATLEAST REMAINED CONSISTANT) CONSISTENTLY BAD THAT IS with Rude Uninterested in anything except themself Staff and Terribly bad Food rooms Dark Dingy badly furnished rooms with a very strong Musty Smell (DAMPNESS) we would Never ever RETURN to this Hotel and thay would Never want us too even if it was FREE TO DO SO and Not Well Over Priced as IT IS

Well we've not been since March so due to not much choice in Seaton thought let's give it a try as it's local.

Really nice hotel had suite at front with a great sea view plenty of room very clean and warm. Breakfast was very nice and plenty of it staff were very helpful and really pleasant. Area was very nice and some great pubs and places to eat shall be staying again .

This hotel offers excellent value for money and food is delicious with large portions.

Very disappointing food very bland pork full of fat the gravy was disgusting I think chef must have forgot to put gravy powder In hence to say we will not return and will certainly will let others know how much it has dropped in it's stsndards

I visit this establishment a lot and have done over the years in fact even had New Years Eve here but doubt I will be going back. At the moment I am having and asking for Childs portions when going in restaurants due to a medical condition and advice from the hospital and have never had a child's portion once in all the time I have been in here.

There were 4 of us went for lunch, 2 chose the carvery and 2 Liver and bacon, the carvery was overheated, the meats could be seen sizzling on the hot plate so were very dry, equally the vegetables were kept in an overheated container and they were soggy. The 2 that had the liver expected it to be served with some sorty of vegeatable, but if they wanted that they would told they would have to pay extra. Not a place I will hurry back to.

Never stayed in such a noisy (am) place 6am wake up call by workers banging doors loud laughing shouting talking...

Went for Sunday lunch with my husband and Son who is vegetarian I asked if they did a vegetarian option...

Stayed here twice now and would stay again lovely friendly staff rooms nice and comfortable food very good

Me and my fiancé won an overnight stay in the hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal that we had. The restaurant was clean with friendly staff. We both got a burger and chips and it was gorgeous. The chunky chips were lovely. We will definitely be back for food.

I have visited the marine hotel numerous times as I live within the local area. I have always found the place to have a nice atmosphere and this is often helped thanks to the young members of staff having bubbly friendly personality. I would class myself as a regular and known to all the staff! Service by the barmaids is perfect my pint is often been pulled as they see me arrive. I have ate here a few times whilst watching the local football scores and I have to say the food is always served within a nice pace and brought over to me. I have recently discovered that the manager I must state the female one not the male as he is always a joyful character and takes time to speak to me when I come alone to the pub is a bully. She doesn't have the time of day for customers, she seems to have selective favourited staff and this is very apparent. As I speak to a lot of people in here this is not just what I have observed I am aware she is bullying younger members of staff, I would raise this issue in the hotel but don't want more bullying to occur. I hope this gets back to the owners as the staff here are all great and I would hate to see them leave due to the continuous bullying by the female manager. However, I will continue to visit as one manager should not ruin the lives of others.Merry Christmas to all the lovely receptionists, bar maids and behind the scenes chefs and house keepers and of course joyful male manager!

Went to lunch with my elderly parents and their friends from their club. Very reasonable at £5.50 for 2 courses. I had the carvery option for the main course and the meat was absolutely perfect, nice friendly surroundings and just the place for an after lunch stroll on the seafront though have to admit it was a bit nippy being the beginning of November.

We return to this pub every so often for Steak and ale pie, with chips and peas. I often choose this dish in pubs and restaurants and can honestly say that the version in this pub is absolutely superb. In fact, so nice my whole family order it when we visit. So, strongly recommended from us.

Meal was good but hotel looked dated from the outside, inside though looked pretty good and choice of meals was good

I stayed here with my uncle working away place was dated bed was broke and really squeaky shower was flying around when trying to get washed .went for breakfast and every glass was dirty ended up drinking orange out a tea cup breakfast stuff all left to long under lamp spoons where dirty not the best experience could not fault staff all really friendly and nice

Great place, staff top notch. Chicken crisp second to none. Best thing in Seaton carew by a mile. Good times.

Stayed here for one night while we were in the north east and had a really nice time. We ate in the restaurant and the bar and enjoyed the home cooked meals. The room was spacious and quiet, we were on the ground floor so access was easy. The bathroom was modern and clean. The staff at The Marine were all really helpful throughout our stay. Definitely would stay again.

Was staying at a B&B a couple of minutes walk away, needed an evening meal and found a fairly good choice of lite bites and full meals to choose from. Food was nicely presented and very tasty. Went back next day for Lunchtime Carvery with friends, again very tasty with lots of choice at a very reasonable price.

Had lunch here today. Restaurant not open but carveries could be purchased and taken to eat in the lounge. Very good value. £5.50 for 2 courses for adults and. £4.50 for 2 courses from the children's menu or a child's carvery.Very good service and the meals were good. The waiter even took my grandson's spoon and washed it for him. Well worth calling in there for a meal.

The waiter service was abysmal for everything. We were treated as if we had spoilt their day by being there.

My wife and I called in for lunch as a friend had recommended the place. I had the 2 course meal for £5.50, Lovely thick and filling home made looking vegetable soup, then a carvery with Yorkshire puddings and a choice of four meats (I had the Turkey). There had a help yourself section of Roast potato, Mashed Potato, Brocolli, Cauliflower, Peas and Turnip accompanied by thick dark gravy,mint sauce, apple sauce, Cranberry sauce. Smashing and a real gut buster for the price. The tea was served in a nice big pot easily big enough for multiple cups for two. Rapid service and by friendly and helpful staff.

Went here without booking and the staff managed to accommodate us on a large table which was very helpful. The drinks and food were reasonably priced - we had the carvery - unlimited amounts. It was perfectly acceptable for the price - if a bit average.

We stayed at the hotel last night (11th July 2015), originally we planned on going into Hartlepool marina for food, however, due to getting to the hotel late and also having trouble with getting a taxi, we decided to try the restaurant.The restaurant is open until 9pm, at 8.40 we went in and asked if we could get anything, the server said they will do anything we want, not a problem.The food was good quality, well seasoned, chips with herbs on......really surprised us how good the food was considering we weren't in a more expensive setting.The waiter was very good, even at 9.15 he asked if we would like the dessert menu.Appreciated the service, considering they did not need to serve us or even let us order anything with it being so late.would definitely eat here again if staying in the area.

Arrived at 12 just as doors were opening , had the 2 course meal for £5.50 , which was homemade vegetable soup , then carvery 5 different veg ,choice of 4 meats from which I had Pork , very generously sliced , lovely thick gravy .... Staff were very attentive, polite & welcoming ... Definitely somewhere to eat that makes a change from Fish & chipsfrom the local places ... In the Bar you can have 2 meals girl £12.00 ...Very clean inside & out , parking spaces and front & back entrances ....

Today we visited the marine with friends and family ,what an absolute disappointment and an embarrassment . Firstly we went in to have a quite drink and maybe order some food, bar staff were not friendly and rather abrupt, in one area were a rowdy crowed shouting and swearing as they went to the bar to order drinks , just as we thought it couldn't get any worse some girl obviously connected to one of the scrotes that were part of this ongoing fiasco ran in with a pint of lager and launched it all over him followed by a torrent of abouse. This was followed by a giggle of the bar staff obviously friends with the party concerned, we have stopped in this hotel several times in the past but in my opinion it is now a zero rated experience and more of a back street pub than a seaside hotel

This is our local so it's not nice to say bad comments but these days there is so much competition and you really shouldn't rest on your laurels.Sunday Dinner prices have just gone up granted not by much but the rise doesn't show in the quality.We like popping in for a few drinks as we only live round the corner but now I'm afraid we will be going further a field.We paid for two carverys which we have done many times more for convenience than food quality.We both asked for all the meats because it makes up for the lack of decent vedgetables but this time I did say to the lad serving us does peas and sweet corn from a tin really constitute for Fresh as stated on the menu vedgetables? He just looked at us as if to say so what?He asked if we would like a Yorkshire pudding which we both did then on to the acompliments_ mashed potatoes which to be fair is usually nice, carrots and diced turnip and that's as far as the fresh vedg goes then it's tinned peas and sweet corn and something I've never seen served on a carvery Onions fried in oil . To cut a long story short it all tasted like School Dinners The Yorkshire puddings tasted like an omelette and all the so called fresh vedg tasted the same bland and tasteless. Please can the owners of The Marine Hotel put a bit of love in the place and run it like u care instead of on a shoestring.

We arrived half term at lunch time. We were told on ordering there would be an hour wait so no problem. Our waitress was fantastic with our kids. Unfortunately the lack of waiting staff was evident. Our food was clearly ready a long time before it arrived to us. Barely warm and very dry.

Went here for the Sunday carver today well the service started off well I started with the prawn cocktail with was nice but we had to ask for my husbands soup as was not brought out with my starter which he said was nice the carvery itself was lovely we had to wait a while for the chef to come and carve the meat was asked if we would like desert which we said we would was told they'd bring desert menu which after waiting 5 minutes we had to ask for them which they did but after waiting another 15 minutes for someone to come and take our order not one member of staff came over so we decided to leave and pay the bill while the overall starter and carvery was nice the service In my opinion was very poor and I think the management should address this but on plus side went to fizzy izzys ice cream parlour just up from the marine and had a lovely desert there were the service was a lot better

Sunday lunch was cheap, good quality and plentiful. We were pleasantly surprised. The beer was also very good, make sure you check put the restaurant.

This is our local and we go quite a lot had the Sunday Carvery again today its very nice and very good value.Please try doing different vegetables though its always the same ,variety is the spice of life so they say! I think if it was changed d every now and again it would make the difference to being a good carvery to a great one.Carrot's and peas are a no brainer.The staff behind the bar are lovely and welcoming.

This is the 3rd time we have been in as many months and its consistently been very good and I would highly recommend to friends and family. Home cooked quality food and even the chicken burger was a fresh chicken fillet breast! Very good choices and value for money, usually a Groupon offer which is excellent value for money so look online for deals.

Went here as a group for lunch recently. Food was excellent, good carvery, and I had a mixed grill that was just enormous. Service was great, the place is clean. Some of our party had children and their experience was just as good as ours. None of that careless chucking of junk food onto a plate that so many establishments think is OK for a kids meal. The food was very reasonably priced, but the drinks were not. Two beers cost the same as two meals for one of our party. I appreciate they have to make their money, but in all honesty, the drinks bill took the gloss off, we should be remembering the excellent food. If I were the owner I'd rather people were talking about the great food without "but the drinks........"

myself and a friend visited using a groupon voucher. Ordered the surf and turf amazing home cooked real chips to die for. Asked for more sauce which was delivered straight away contained fab prawns. Lovely seating area great staff. Would defo go again ;-)

Happy efficient service at early evening and very hot and tasty food. REcommend scampi, burger and even the blt and chips are gorgeous, proper chips...delicious.

We've now been here 3 times for the Sunday carvery lunch, you get a decent portion of well cooked meat and a large choice of vegetables and its all pretty tasty and inexpensive (£6.99 from memory). At the end of the day, Sunday lunch is Sunday lunch and there is not much difference between the vast majority of places. The dining room is nice and it has a decent bar where you can catch the footy after your dinner. Plates could do with being slightly bigger but then again I am a greedy bast*!rd and its probably a good method of portion control / cutting down on wastage. You could do a lot worse!

Went on a Groupon deal for lunch and couldn't fault portion size. The quality of the veg was poor and generally overcooked though and in response to a question of whether there was turkey gravy for the turkey or pork gravy for the pork we were told that it was all Bisto beef, which I guess sums up the experience.. The main waitress was pleasant and efficient but the soup (of unknown flavour) server was curt and just plonked it down in front of us. We had the feeling that the staff were just concerned about "knocking off" and were tired.The hotel seems to be getting refurbished, which it needs but the restaurant was pleasant enough, clean and tidy. The beer was good, well priced and well chilled.Overall a substantial, cheap lunch and we felt that we got what we paid for.
