Written up as "one of the best Italian restaurants in London" we left with a very disappointed taste in our mouths. Service neglible. Wine stock depleted and hugely expensive for what it was, and you could say that about the entire meal (one of the starters that could easily have been put on the table gratis as it cost pennies to produce came in at £10). Pasta was acceptable, and so it should have been in an Italian restaurant and for the cost, but did not stand out. The pork loin was cold and dry and had a suspiciously "shop bought" tasting sauce on it.

Fantastic food and amazing service initially. A shame it went downhill once the staff shift changed. We weren’t offered a dessert menu, coffee or more drinks. When we asked we were told the kitchen was closed and given the bill. To be fair we had enjoyed a leisurely 3 hour lunch so it was probably time to go but a bit disappointing. Would still recommend and go again!

You know those visits to expensive Italian restaurants in London that manage to take you back to that time you spent in Lamole Tuscany that are worth every penny? This is NOT that. It’s mediocre quisine for Michelin star prices. The pasta starter was under cooked (not el Dante). The sausage main tasted like someone spilt the salt jar in the mix of an otherwise good meaty sausage. The wild boar ragu was boring and sparse with not enough ragu to wet the noodles. The wine list is Sainsbury’s own label at best, but at least not too expensive (£35 and up). £160 per couple and they did not charge us for the salty dog sausage mains. The decors is nice and the service was lovely but will never go back.

We fell upon Maremma because their neighbours, where we’d intended to go, were closed for lunch. (This small parade now has a Caribbean restaurant too.) We were delighted. A very knowledgeable waiter and the food was delicious. We didn’t want a heavy lunch, so choice of portion size for pasta was good and left room for pud. A scrumptious kumquat tart. House wine, one red, one white, were regional to Tuscany and good. A warm atmosphere and a proper neighbourhood restaurant. We’ll be back.

We dined in the downstairs room as a large family group. The atmosphere was lovely, the Wild Boar ragu is a stand out, although you cant wrong with choosing any dish from the menu as the home made pasta is divine and so are the desserts. Thank you for a special evening !

This is a genuine review from Ordinary Punter, a real person who actually visited and ate at this restaurant: First time visit and not disappointed. Great, Italian themed food, with good service (except as regards our wine order) and a great atmosphere at the restaurant. Imaginative dishes very well cooked and presented. Liked it Wine order - something went wrong here - we didn't get served with the bottle of red wine we ordered (although the one we had was fine) plus the wine list says that the restaurant sources all wines direct from the producer, whereas the bottle we had was labelled as having been supplied by Waitrose.

We have previously travelled all through Tuscany and experienced real tuscan cuisine. This restaurant was decent but we thought the pasta was a bit overcooked (got the wild boar ragu each) and the portion sizes based on the price was quite on the expensive side. Good to try once but I don't think we will be back.

Came for a birthday meal and were extremely disappointed. Once seated we weren't greeted or asked if we wanted any drinks for a long time, and once we finally ordered our drinks, they took so long we nearly left, and were only brought to us once we reminded them we'd ordered, which they had clearly forgot! Food was very bland and disappointing, and once again took a ridiculous amount of time to come out, bare in mind this was a lunchtime which wasn't busy and we had pre-booked. Insult to injury was the bill, we were all shocked at the total.

I booked Maremma for my wife's birthday as she had wanted to try it for some time. Having done so, I read the recent reviews on Tripadvisor and feared the worst. I shouldn't have, it was perfect. The basement is a cosy space. Yes, there is a big fridge and washing up area (probably a relic from the previous restaurant, I'm sure it will go in time), but neither were being used and it felt like we were in somebody's kitchen. If you're a couple (there were 3 of us) you may be given a high chair, which you might find a bit cramped. Personally, we got a massive table that could seat 6 and there was plenty of room. The server was incredibly professional and charming - I suspect he has worked in high-end restaurants before. He was very attentive and didn't try to bore us with details of food provenance, although he answered all questions with a smile and patience. I cannot understand the person who said portions are small. They are not! Expecting them to be tiny we ordered antipasti, primi and secondi, as well as a snack of truffle arancini, which was gorgeous. After the primi we were all full and could only manage a bite each of the secondi. I asked the waiter if they did doggy bags and he happily put our leftovers in small plastic containers. Best leftovers ever. The food is amazing, not a duff dish on the menu. It's not bland in any way, although if you feel that it's a touch under-seasoned use the pecorino they provide or ask for a salt grinder. We shared the food, which they encourage. As I say, everything was great, but particularly the tortelli, mafalde and farinata - vegetarian dishes that I would not normally order. As for the price - it isn't cheap, but worth it for food of this quality. They source most of the ingredients from their own farm in Maremma, from that region or locally. Three courses as we had will set you back £50 a head. If you go to Locanda Locatelli you will pay £100 for the same, and believe me when I say that the standard for the two restaurants is the same. Also note that they do not charge a service charge because they pay their staff fairly and they are not reliant on the charge or tips (that said, I did tip 12.5% because the service was so good). It's a fantastic place. Ignore the fools who don't know what they're talking about.

Disappointing, overpriced, and boring food - with charmless meandering staff. She had tuna tartare which looked pretty but was bland and unfishy despite being room temp; I had langostine risotto which had good saltiness in the broth and decent bite to the rice, albeit miniscule bits of langostine - was probably the highlight of meal. We both had main of sliced beef steak, hers medium, mine medium rare - it came cold/lukewarm and bland, even with extra salt ordered; meat accompanied by a small stack of undressed rocket with some shavings of nondescript hard cheese and two mini bowls, one containing oil, sliced garlic and a sprig of rosemary, and the other some kind of herbes de provence mix. Waiter had no clue what herbs were for - he did apologise for the cold/lukewarm meat which he said was cos they were short-staffed. The oil helped rehydrate the meat, but didn't summon any flavour. Highlight of mains was the accompanying alioli potatoes which were hot and crunchy, but £6. We admitted defeat at this point (not helped by waitor giving leftover meat to couple's dog at table next to us) and got two double espressos to finish - thankfully fine. Booze-wise, house white was dry and cold but unremarkable; sessenta red £38 was palatable conpared to house red, but also underwhelming; £6.50 for mini bottle of lager felt cruel when we knew you could get pint for less in pub across the road - also £8 foe a crotino - cretino more like. If you decide to try this place, ood luck, and make sure you stipulate you want a table on street level - we were told they were booked up, despite our booking, and we were ushered downstairs to basement bar/room to a high chair/table along exposed brick wall (with chains?!) with the fridges in one corner and guy washing dishes in the other - zero atmosphere or joy. From other reviews, this place appears to have a wonderful story to tell of food sourced from a specific rural region of Italy, but you wouldn't know it from the staff who had no charm or pride or discernable knowleage of what they were serving up. A half-decent cook could better this place's offering from basics from your average supermarket. And bill foe above was £140, including couple of quid for a voluntary community contribution - at that price I told waiter they could cover my voluntary contribution themselves. We won't be returning - and I would recommend avoiding this place. If you want a good local south london Italian go to Querce [not sure of spelling] in Honor Oak. I don't usually write reviews btw, but decided to write one here in hope it saves you some disappointment and wastw of hard earned dosh.

underwhelming. The basement is a bit smelly and drab, the service friendly but the food disappointing. Wine selection was good. Given how well we all know the dishes - pasta, tagliata etc. they need to be good but the pasta was a bit dry and heavy, the ragu was thin and lacking flavour and the tagliata meat (bavette?) chewy though cooked rare as asked which is ... well , rare, as most places tend to veer on the overcooking side. We'd been planning to go here for some time as we pass it often but won't be returning - next time in Water Lane will be Naughy piglets , not here. Price reasonable though occasionally highish - £11 for a few brocolli stalks ?

Big letdown. This place has so much going for it: friendly staff, winning decor, no music, their own farm in Italy. Sadly, things fall apart on the plate. We had one dud after another. The pappardelle with wild boar ragù was bland. The fish soup was barely edible: mushy, muddy, with a thick slice of something rubbery and unrecognisable in the middle of it all. The chocolate gelato was a criminal misnomer: watery rather than creamy, austere rather than rich. Like an unhappy marriage with a second-rate sorbet. This culinary car crash cost us nearly £70 a head. We could have eaten so much better at home for a fraction of the cost. Next time, we will. What a shame – because the vibe is good. Maybe it was an off day in the kitchen? I really hope so. Because if not this place bodes really ill for the whole culture of eating out in London....

Incredibly disappointing. Visited Maremma a couple of days ago and vouched never to return. Poor service and super rude staff. The restaurant established itself as a regional Tuscan eatery with regional dishes and wines. However, when we asked for some advice as we didn't recognise most wines on the menu, the server didn't know much about them and couldn't describe them and tell us how they differed. Our chosen white then arrived warm. We complained about it but were told that it was the right temperature, in an almost aggressive way. We were made feel awkward about saying anything. This theme continued throughout the meal. The customer is always wrong - an interesting approach. The meal itself was tiny - we don't eat a lot so are ok with smaller portions but the size of their main pasta dish was ridiculous. I would be interested to see the starter pasta dish. We had three courses and left hungry. Can't remember last time it happened to us. The price would be ok if we actually got fed. It's not ok for what we got. The food itself was very average. Not the taste of Itay you would expect. Don't think any chefs or owners are Italian anyway. Just a gimmick. Avoid!

Was so looking forward to this and what a disappointment. Had the wild boar ragu. Firstly, despite being the “main” the food barely covered the bottom of the plate. Clearly I wasn’t the first to question this as the immediate comeback was the precise grams weight of pasta. So onto the pasta. Wet and slimy. And the ragu ? Frankly tasteless and minuscule. I’ve cooked better myself and it was a very poor attempt at the real thing that I’ve had in Tuscany. Lacking flavour, lacking body and again far too wet. What a really poor meal - and so expensive. I won’t be eating here again

Good small choices of dishes from open kitchen. Small dining atea up stairs with lots ofcpming and going and people waiting for tables. Food was v good but arrived tepid if not cold. Starter of Beef Buttata. Main of Pork loin. Main problem for me was very high msrk up on wine. Only 500 ml choices less £30. First 75 bottle was £34. And that they ushered us out after 2 hours as next table arrived. I get that they need to keep busy and fill tables, and their increasingly high bills, but at these prices an extra 30 mins or so to let the evening reach its own end would have been welcome. Especially when they took some time to come and take our drink order on arrival.

A real gem in the middle of Crystal Palace. We looked in and nearly left as couldn’t see any tables. Fortunately we went in and asked and they had a lovely downstairs area which was spacious and quieter but still had a lovely atmosphere. The staff were attentive and great. But the main reason for sharing the love in this review was the food. Reasonable priced but authentic and delicious. Every mouthful was heaven. We tried the sizzling garlic prawns, arancini and stuffed mushrooms for starters all 10/10. Mains followed with meatballs, lasagne and a pizza Bella all 10/10 again! We didn’t want to push our luck as everything had been perfect and we were stuffed but saw the tiramisu was a 40 year old family recipe, as my daughter makes it frequently at home trying to create the best version she had to try. Oh my it was the lightest and most delicious version we have ever had. One happy girl! Two limoncellos for us to finish come in iced glasses . Wow just wow.. as we were leaving we told the staff how amazing the whole meal had been and it meant a lot as I can see how much passion and love they put into their food always nice to say thank you!
