March Hare in County Durham

Came for Christmas day dinner. Food was faultless, very tasty and just enough without being wasteful. Service was amazing, so fluid, so helpful and all the staff remained upbeat and smiling throughout, which on a bit at day like Christmas day, must have took some doing, but credit to everyone. I even managed to secure some turkey for my dog (Loki). Who I left at home, but promised him his own Christmas dinner, which he thoroughly enjoyed too. We are March Hare regulars, but will certainly rebook for next Christmas Well done and congratulations to all..

Loverly place & very friendly staff was quite when I went in so said just find a seat & if you wish order at bar take seat no or use the QR code I used bar & staff were very helpful meal was loverly & I only waited bout 20mins food was very good I used a voucher but I'll defo be back

Here’s your improved review with a more balanced tone: --- We visited as a family and accidentally ordered the "Ultimate Chicken Burger Meal – Light," which was the same price as the regular version but came without a bun. When I asked to switch, my server had to check with three different managers. The first two wanted to charge extra just for a bun, which seemed unreasonable. Thankfully, our server persisted and eventually found a manager who simply refunded the meal and placed the correct order. On the bright side, the Ultimate Chicken Burger was amazing! However, the pizza and kids' menu were a real disappointment—honestly, a Tesco own-brand pizza would have been better. Overall, the experience was underwhelming, but the great service from our waiter made up for some of the frustration.

Had lunch here with five friends and three dogs a couple of days ago - they could not have been more welcoming, brought out bowls of water for the dogs, pretty much went through the menu with us, absolutely fabulous, impossible to fault

Scammed us out of their own offer with a chip based machination Edit: You could probably just stop trying to scam people out of your own offers with chip based machinations.. no need for a phonecall, song and/or dance about it

Extremely slow service with a somewhat empty bar prioritising people who order at the bar compared to an order that was made 15 minute earlier and only getting made after waiting

Came for Sunday dinner and it was perfect. Pub was busy so had a lovely atmosphere. Staff were friendly and served us quickly. Small wait for food but it was understandable when it was busy. What's the rush when you come out for dinner. We will be back.

Where to start we booked a table for 530pm 8th March in dog friendly area. On arrival, I could see busy by fact people queuing out the door to place orders. No tables had reserved signs on. Managed to find a team member on the floor who said the reserved signs had not been put out due to how busy it was and just sit anywhere explained we had a dog, and this is the reason we book!! Giving table in part where dog should not be. Still had a wood floor. We stood good 15 mins to order drinks to be told no wine glasses was a tumbler OK no it not. He found two wine glasses in the same size, but one still had lipstick on it, so he gave us two different sizes, 125ml and 250ml glass! On ordering food, where told 40 min wait! So did we want our mains and starters to come out together so we get food quicker. No, who would want that!! While waiting for food come another waitress came over and told us we should not be sitting in that area due to having a dog! Explained, Claire had sat us there as our reserved table had not been sorted and no room in the dog area!! When starters came pizza garlic bread, no pizza cutter asked for one, took a good 10 mins as they had to wash it!! So pizza had been eaten or would be cold! Kept cutter as another pizza to come with mains. Food was very average lasagne was warm but not hot chicken tikia was very watery. Normally, I would send it back, but how long are we going to wait for new food. Due to waiting to order, we never bothered with desserts. So we went to the bar to pay and stood for 20 mins while all the staff were doing drinks that people had ordered from tables in end we had to say we only want to pay. Finally got paid. Felt sorry for staff on the floor they were run off feet, and it them who get the grief. Weather was nice and brought people out, as did the 30% off mains voucher!! If going put promos on, put more staff on! Also, maybe have a leader who can lead all staff. it just seemed sraff where running round like headless chickens no organisation at all. We eat here a lot, and this was the worst service we ever had and food, to be honest! Very disappointed

Service very good, staff excellent, polite and cheerful. Food choice varied arrived quickly, was hot and well prepared, only downside was price a little on the expensive side.

The Ultimate Spicy Beef Burger is the best burger from any restaurant. There's just something about it, trust me I've had a lot of different burgers from a lot of different places and it's the best.

This pub is welcoming from the moment you walk in. The atmosphere is lovely and the staff are friendly and helpful. The food was brought to our table in an impressively short amount of time and it was delicious. The chips that my wife had were some of the best I’ve tasted in a long time. I ordered a curry and it was served with both poppadoms and naan bread. I’m used to having one or the other but having both was like hitting the curry jackpot. The pub is dog friendly and has plenty of parking in a good quality car park.

It said we could eat in and order from the table, no signs said otherwise and now they've lost custom. I legit feel like I'm living in the twilight zone, two places we've been to tonight that both do food and neither are doing food. We followed the instructions on the app and were told we'd be refunded. Oh dear. 😅🙃

I had burger and salad and it was beautiful. Son had fish and chips and enjoyed it. Hubby had mixed grill and asked for medium steak but couldn’t eat it as it was more medium well. Great atmosphere, staff were lovely and a big shout out to Ethan for our table service and being all round lovely

I last went more then 10 years ago it was that awful i said i would never go again so i thought i would pop in on the off chance it had improved and boy had it service was great food was better than great will go again

Terrible. Parts of menu not available due to broken grill. All steaks etc. Food took over an hour despite being simple and the place being quiet (less than 20% capacity) Had to chase food and was told three staff hadn’t turned up. Food arrived luke warm. Fish and chips were stone cold so that had to be remade which took another 15 mins. For £60 this was terrible value for money. Food quality was mediocre.

Christmas Day lunch was lovely, we will be booking again next year.

Lovely pub and polite, friendly manager and staff. Pub is festive, staff availability was just right, clean and tidy throughout and the market was so well organised. Lovely pub, will definitely return.

Waited an hour for meal to come. Natchos were horrible. Hardly any cheese on, very dry and sour cream was rank.

Had the mixed grill, meat done to perfection, just as requested, a good full meal, plenty of it, good value food.

Lovely place, we visit regularly and we never have a bad experience. The staff are so helpful and friendly, no matter how busy they are. The food is always beautiful and served hot and fresh. Its always clean and tidy and we are always welcomed with a smile.

Visited the March Hare a couple of days ago for lunch very enjoyable experience great service lovely proper cooked food and it was nice when staff can be bothered to come to our table and check if our meals were ok highly recommend this place its so much better than the White Heifer that traveled in Darlington will definitely be back again a big thanks to the staff .

We were made to feel very welcome and the staff were wonderful and made our lunch very special. the pub was very clean and very well managed and the food was perfect and beer was just as good. we will come here again and we have booked christmas lunch here now as well .

Standard chain pub. Staff are friendly, always clean, food is good. Better than some chains, but it's what you'd expect.

Came in last week with my wife and was greeted by Claire who was very welcoming,, we said that we would like a quiet table and Claire pointed us in the direction, we picked a table and looked at the menu then went to order and again Claire was very helpful,, food was really good and we will definitely be visiting again.

Although there were about 3 or 4 vegetarian menu options only one didn't have two chilli symbols beside it. I don't like food that is too spicy so I opted for a vegetarian burger but the taste was horrible. It's the worst one I have ever had. The cauliflower nuggets were lovely though. The chips were cold so I did ask for a replacement and they were okay and the ones that came were delicious. I told one of the staff when they came to clear the plates about my main meal and it turns out she is vegetarian and has tried all the options so I wish I had asked before ordering about how hot the veggie chilli was and I would have had that. She said I could have a complementary dessert given that I couldn't eat my main. I opted for cheesecake and that was lovely. Very friendly staff, there was a quiz on (it was a Tuesday) so plenty of atmosphere. It is a cosy pub.

On my first visit, It was very busy, the online ordering system was offline and wait times were extended, that's all understandable. When my food arrived, it was the wrong order (chicken burger instead of spicy beefburger) I accepted it was a small error and ate it anyway, it tasted ok, no complaints about the quality. The second (and final) time I visited, the restaurant was relatively quiet, my order was correct but I waited a long time between starter and main (circa 30 mins). As there were errors on both occasions I visited, I absolutely do NOT recommend this bar/restaurant to anyone, and will never return, no matter what was on offer. The food was hot, it tasted alright, my partners order was correct and served in reasonable time on both occasions, though not mine. the service is rubbish.

Drinks and food way too expensive for what you get. Very small portion of mac and cheese. Wouldn't come back for food or drinks. We did not pay £5 we paid £13.75 for the mac and cheese not in the starters on the main menu yet it was starter size.

Our first time here, having travelled up from West Sussex for a weekend away. Louise looked after us so well and made us feel very welcome. Lovely friendly service with a smile. Very good food too at reasonable prices. I teach customer service and retail management for several very large companies and I was delighted with my visit today. Thank you 🙂

We come in atleast once a month for food. Never been dissapointed. Staff are friendly and helpfull. Food is always spot on. Many more visits to come!

Ordered pizza and gammon steak when ordered arrived both where cold,took orders back to complain,a member of staff come over to apologise and said that we would get a fresh order,when the next order came,that was hot and was very nice,pity they couldn't do that the first time without having to complain ,but overall the experience will not put me off coming again.

Quiet, food was okay. Pizzas including the garlic bread needed cooked a little more, quite floppy and the garlic bread was swimming in grease. Fish and chips were a solid 7. Thought I'd treat my man to his fav, sticky toffee pudding but he said it was definitely store bought and even with ice cream was way too dry. Iv never seen him leave sticky toffee pudding before but he did.

Steak night for 2, Thursday 10 Oct 2024. The Rump Steak was perfection Medium Rare. Renaldo the Chef definitely knows how to cook a steak. Succulent, juicy, melted in the mouth 10/10. Can honestly say I've had a Steak from Miller & Carter and this was just as good. Compliments to Renaldo.

Staff is very helpful and friendly and the food is excellent. The peas, in particular, were beautiful (and I never go into raptures about vegetables)! It was so very nice to sit in a restaurant without being forced to endure invasive, lound, highly irritating "music" (and I use that term in the loosest possible way). Lovely experience and will be returning more often from now on.

Expected a frozen meal but were surprised buy a lovely fresh homemade lunch. Service was fantastic thank you Louise

We booked two tables in the dog friendly area for a family meal for our daughter’s 16th birthday (05.10.2024). Ryan and the team were fantastic and went out of their way to make sure everything was just perfect! I’d dropped a little birthday banner in and a ‘16’ badge, earlier in the week, and asked if they could be used to decorate the tables…however, when we arrived, Ryan had organised for a HUGE number 16 balloon to be there too! What a lovely surprise that was, and so thoughtful! The service on the day was faultless and the food was delicious! All of the 8 meals were lovely - my Dad actually said it was the nicest fish and chips he’d had in years! Thank you to everyone at The March Hare - we couldn’t have asked for more! 🫶🏻

Haven't been here for a while, so tried today. Ordered the chilli chicken kebab. Chicken was thigh, not breast. But it doesn't say this on the menu. Thigh is fatty and awful. The waitress though was lovely and knew something wasn't right. She got my wife and I a chicken breast each which made up for it.

Must Visit!! I went here for a brief lunch with my family, ended up staying much longer than expected due to LOVING the place! Atmosphere is amazing, but nothing tops the quality of food. The Sunday Lunch blew me away, and for the price? I'd have it everyday if I could. All the staff are incredibly lovely and welcoming. I went for the Roast beef. upgrading it to a large and was simply stunned by the portion sizes, I was there for roughly 2 hours and still couldn't finish my plate! (Even though it tasted soooo good!) This is a must visit, must view location, I am so glad I stayed and want to thank the staff for the longlasting memories I made here. 10/10.

My husband was very disappointed no mixed grills available as he had really enjoyed this on our last visit definitely needs better food stock management.

Lovely & welcoming Claire was very helpful

Food gave my husband food poisoning. He was violently ill shortly after the meal. Our drinks didn't come out to us even though they were on the same order, we had our meal without drinks even though we reminded the staff passing by our table twice that we still needed them. We then had to go up to the bar after our meal to get our drinks. Staff dropped cutlery and didn't pick it up, a knife and fork remained on the floor in a heavy traffic area for the majority of our meal which is a hazard. Whilst my husband was in the rest room, the staff took his half eaten meal, without asking anyone at the table if he was finished. My friend next to me was actively eating her chips left on her plate, before the staff started taking the plate, saying I will take that if you're finished, whilst actively removing it. Not giving my friend a chance to say no. Overall, the food was poor and so was the service.

It was OK... nothing special about the food, weird spicy dressing on the salad which kind of spoiled it, but it was a friendly place with nice service

Food and surroundings fine. Ridiculous method of ordering by joining a long single line of people waiting to be served pints with just one person at the bar. Online ordering from table never worked once. On first entering you have to join this long queue where elsewhere you are usually met by a staff member and you say I have a table booked and are taken to your table. This really needs looked into. I've not experienced this at any other pub. Reply to owner response 09/09/24 We spoke to a team member who said to join the queue. When seated we spoke to team member who said to use the web via scan at table which didn't work. When we informed them of this they wouldn't take the order but told us to join the queue again. You are digging a hole for yourself by lieing. Other tables were in the same queue too. 🙄

Absolutely brilliant staff and delicious food. It was incredibly busy so drinks took longer than expected but they apologized profusely and were very friendly

Did not like the idea of booking time slots,8-30pm-10-00pm then literally just ordered drinks,then the staff asking us to order food as soon as possible as the kitchen was closing at 9-00pm which we did not know about,we wanted to order a 3 course meal but ended p just having a main course and left the pub at about 9-30pm,not a great experience and won't be returning there again

Great service from luke, made me a special drink to request, "lukes tropical affair" and it was spectacular, service was amazing all around
