Standard Chinese Takeway in County Durham

First time ordering from here. Delivered on time, food was delicious , ordered chicken chow mein , curry sauce and spring rolls, free crackers and fortune cookies came with it , overall very good and highly recommend 👌

Had a few meals from here. All very good. Got 2 meals tonight, duck with ginger & spring onions & salt & pepper chicken. Very tasty. We were given an additional bag with "treats" in. What a lovely gesture for valentine's day. Very friendly girl taking orders ..

I am sad to leave this review as I have always found the staff at this takeaway very lovely welcoming people but I’m afraid I am very upset over an issue I have had tonight. I asked if I could have plain rice noodles with mushroom and nothing else. This was repeated back to me so I believed I had been understood. When my meal was made the server (manager?) informed me that they added egg for flavour even though I had not asked for this. I do not eat egg as it makes me sick. I explained politely that I do not eat egg and he apologised and said he would remake it. I must admit I should have known by how fast my meal was remade that something wasn’t right but I presumed I had been understood and due to their own mistake, my meal would be remade fresh. When I got home I began to eat my meal and all seemed fine at first until I noticed an odd taste and to my horror found small bits of egg still in my food. I am unsure wether they simply picked the egg off the original meal and repackaged it or cooked it in the same pan without cleaning out the egg first but unfortunately it has lead to me being sick and I will likely be unwell for the next couple of days. Again I am very sad to leave this review as the owners and staff are very lovely people and I often have a bag of chips from here but knowing that adding ingredients that weren’t specified then doing a poor job of making sure the replacement also didn’t include this ingredient is very dangerous. Thankfully my own health issues with eggs aren’t life threatening, just very unpleasant but it could be fatal if this happens to someone with a serious allergy so I had to bring it to your attention

Come on standard you usually have such lovely food. You forget my curry sauce you gave me chicken in black bean sauce when I ordered beef. What's going on? We work hard so this is a treat. So disappointed really upset ,

1st time using The Standard Chinese... and the last. Worst chinese meal we've ever had, apart from being stone cold when it arrived, there was hardly any beef in the beef and oyster sauce, in fact I don't even think it was oyster sauce, it cetainly didn't taste like it. Pathetic portion of prawn toast, what would have usually been 1 quater was cut in to 3 pieces 🤣 unbelievable. Chow mein not too bad although we paid a little extra for sauce and there wasn't any on, not much chicken either. Only put 1 star because you can't put 0!

Worse Chinese ever had a meal from, twice now been horrible, should of learnt the first time, small portions and cold food, we only drove 100 yards up the road on way home from having a drink with friends and was cold by time opened the packaging. Save your money buy elsewhere, avoid at all costs.

Very disappointed. Ordered deep fried crispy beef with szechuan sauce . The sauce was brown in colour rather than a dark red. Was tasteless and definitely not a hint of spice how it should do. The restaurant was very nice and made us a new one however there was difference. The worst Szechuan sauce I have ever tasted ...

Got chicken curry and chips. Gorgeous!!!!!

Bought food here twice probably the worst Chinese I've come across eating the salt and pepper chicken was like chewing elastic bands won't use it again

Ordered for delivery tonight ordered salt and pepper chicken was absolutely disgusting no onions or peppers In just a try of over fried chicken it was the strips what they use for lemon chicken only to what I can describe and fried beyond anything I’ve ever seen they were that hard the pieces snapped as I put my fork into them very disappointed as this is normally the Chinese we use but won’t be anymore!

Always 100% quality fresh hot food

Probs best in Seaham at present. Curry is definitely better than other Chinese around since the Panda is closed and new owners at Sam's. Chips were nice. Plain noodles were great. Char sui nice in the fried rice. Portion sizes were big too.

just like a previous customer, food came cold, when we phoned shop to complain, got nothing but verbal torture, "what do I know about cooking etc" . I know it's got to be heated to 75⁰ and this food was not even in 70s. He did offer us a discount on next meal we order, but no chance of that, probably come cold again. my opinion, you need to listen to your customers, have you heard, "the customer is always right " and you should never be rude to paying customers, no wonder you get bad reviews

only reason you say this is concerning is you know I'm right when I explained that food was cold when it arrived at my door, at no time did I use any racial slurs, verbally abusing/intimidating staff or your heritage or your creed or your culture while over the phone or when I came to shop. I basically asked for my money back due to food been cold and inedible and it was you who used threatening behaviour because of that

Ordered from the standard in seaham food came it was cold phoned up to complain and got threatened by staff so won't be going there again next time will be going to happy eating

Ok for fairly quick food, not the greatest quality.

Absolutely Brilliant Chinese! New to the area do asked a friend and she recommended The Standard and they didn't disappoint! Food was excellent and Hot! Big Portions, and Delivery was quick and Delivery Driver Absolutely Lovely Man would highly recommend these guy's. We won't go anywhere else now! Thanks 👍

As always food nice and hot, nothing left out on delivery and tasted great.

Food was edible! Ordered delivery 1-2 hours in advance still came late, then came and for £15 box it wouldn't feed my kids, noodles burnt was horrible chips- salt and pepper may well just sent a tub of spice were rank food was warm if that like been in the car since I ordered it best bit was the premade bought prawn crackers!

That bad use to go to Peterlee now that one's shut, use Buddha Belly

Been using Standard since the 90’s. Great service & their chicken curry is the best around, by far! The owners are lovely, hard working people - family run business & always service with a smile. I love cooking at home but when life is hectic & we need a takeaway, they’re on speed dial! 👌

Owner is very rude, on complaining about food that was over done, he’s not ready to accept, says it’s all cooked at same time but doesn’t want to compare old and new order as he knows it’s overdone, bangs on door like he’s going to break the door, behaves rudely, never going to order again and stay away from getting a delivery if you have a new door #disrespectful

Had to re-order three times because the woman on the other end got it wrong, and still need up with the wrong food.

Very nice salt and chilli chips where unbelievable. I think i had a bit of a semi on when i opened the tray. The prawn crackers are soggy tho but over all well worth a buck even if the cracker lacked enthusiasm for it.

manager argued blind that a horrible satay (tasted of peanuts) was a schezuen even though it didnt taste of ginger chilli or garlic, when took it back manager said it wasnt his problem and eventually i took £5 refund off a £12 meal just to get away from them, put it to good use though by ordering from the mobile wok
