Coffee is always excellent and the spanikopta is divine!!!! No stinting on the feta and spinach. Perfect. An extremely comfortable place as well. Can't recommend highly enough. I heard that they do Swiss Water decaf coffee!!!!!

Maybe you will doubt that MARA is a coffee shop, it is not very signed as a coffee shop but definitely, go in!

Mara is a treasure. A small elegant, quiet place to have excellent coffee and the delicious cakes, tarts and biscuits, all hand made by one of the owners. She has a gift for baking. It is a marvel how she turns out delicacies from the tiny spotless kitchen space next to the coffee machines, all within your view. You won't be disappointed.

Wonderful cafe in Blackheath Standard and has some outside seating too. Great coffee & cakes, service is so much better than usual. Interior decor is fab and the cafe has comfortable seating. Relaxing, a little oasis in the Standard.

Very nice shop. Comfortable and quiet. Service is very pleasant, polite, and courteous. They have some very nice cakes, the lemon cake was delicious. The coffee is good but bitter for my taste. The price is quite high but not unreasonable. Overall a nice place and well worth a visit

Mara tiene hermosas piezas de diseño de interiores para la venta, art deco para artículos contemporáneos. Si vives o en un breve descanso en el área de Blackheath, Greenwich, Charlton, North Greenwich o Woolwich y te apetece aventurarte a tomar un descanso para tomar el té, este es un excelente lugar. Been in here before and live around the corner, one day was walking passed and my 3 -year-old daughter, said she needed the toilet so I nipped in, and they refuse to let my daughter use the toilet unless I purchase something. Don’t think that’s any way to treat the local community or loyal customer. So won’t be going there anymore. I find it extremely overpriced as well.

This is such a welcoming and relaxing place to enjoy a breakfast and a chat whilst browsing the unique household items on sale but so delicately positioned to look like part of the environment. Excellent friendly services

Great little coffee shop - nice décor and the owners are pleasant and friendly. Have used 20+ times and always great coffee and cakes. Reading some of the reviews left from people - one in particular about the owners staff interviewing techniques, it is completely unnecessary to vent this frustration and anger on here and totally unconnected with the business which is coffee, cakes and interior design. All of which they do well. Its these small places that really make an area and its nice to see this couple making a great effort. Keep up the good work.

Today I was in this cafe when a severely mentally disabled man and his carer came in and asked to use the bathroom. They were directed by the waitress to the manager who quite plainly told them that there was a bathroom 'across the green' that they could use. I think the owners are a couple and the man is very nice and makes great coffee. His wife (if she is) is less skilled and also, judging from this experience today, completely heartless.

We've been coming here ever since it opened. All the food is home cooked and delicious, Free range, gluten free as appropriate and organic. If you want good food come here. Chairs are so relaxing.

Very comfortable and friendly, good ambiance, excellent food and drinks. A little gem at the Blackheath Standard. Just needs a decent shop front- new awning and sign, to match the high standards inside.

Love the coffee (i'm quite fussy :), love the charm of the place and great service from the owners who are very friendly and open. I've only been there a few times now but one of the best places for some nice coffee and cakes etc in lovely surroundings.

Este es un lugar tan agradable, para café o té y pasteles. Debe probar el chocolate caliente. Me encanta las tartas en este lugar. el chocolate oscuro y pistacho es delicioso. Beautifully designed coffee shop with the most comfortable chairs. Great choice of tea and coffee. Amazing home cooked cakes and quiches with delicious salads for lunch. Often meet here for coffee or lunch. It's peaceful and you are not rushed. The owners and staff are always friendly and very welcoming.

We came across Mara whilst eating for the homeopathic clinic nearby. Not that we had much - just tea and a sausage roll (home cooked I should think). The service was friendly and the clientele were too.

Contrairement à certains avis ici, j'ai trouvé le personnel trés accueillant. Nous étions 2 mamans avec des poussettes et 2 bébés assez bruyants malgré tout nous avons été trés bien accueillies. Le cadre est magnifique. Leur gâteau au chocolat est l'un des meilleurs que j'ai goûté.

It's taken some time but I'm finally managing to get round to it...my 19 year old daughter went here for an interview recently as a barista and I can only say that she was appallingly treated! Not only was the owner 20 minutes late for the interview (she'd been shopping!) but she tried to discredit my daughter's experience - which, incidentally, was with both Starbucks and Costa...two of the largest coffee businesses in the world - by telling her she didn't make coffee properly. It's pathetic behaviour from a supposed professional. I sincerely hope the owner takes the time to learn some people skills before inflicting her interview techniques on some other unsuspecting young person!! I told my daughter she should have cut the interview short, but, she remained professional and saw the interview through to the end, although she was clearly upset when she got home. Needless to say, the owner never bothered to contact her post 'interview' which is probably just as well. But, I'd warn others contemplating working there to beware of the owner's social ineptness...I only selected the one star to enable this review, I'd rather have the option to choose none!!!!!

This place is awesome, the staff are awesome and i love the displays. It's one of the only places I've been to that actually present their products as you will see in professional pictures... Absolutely wonderful 😊

I unfortunately had a similar experience to the previous reviewers when I visited last month with my baby. I also made the mistake of interpreting the "no nappy changing" sign as meaning "no changing facilities available" as opposed to "no changing allowed".I completely accept that the management are entitled to impose whatever policies they wish in terms of who is allowed to use their bathroom. However, as a paying customer, I do not accept being spoken to in such a rude and obnoxious way by the manager after making what was an innocent mistake. A real shame, as this experience spoiled an otherwise pleasant lunch.

I've been a resident of the area, and patron of the establishment for many many years. I've enjoyed the service, the hot chocolates, the ambience and being warmly greeted by the gentlemen owner in the Standard area. Recently however, I was told by the female owner (I'm assuming) that i could not change my little one's nappy in their toilet. Upon exiting the toilet I was stopped and asked if I saw the sign placed on the door which said "no changing facilities in this toilet". I did see the sign and thought it was a courtesy note to say 'change baby at your own in/convenience'. I was sadly mistaken and it was made very clear how mistaken I was: no such facilities, meant we were not allowed to change baby in there at all. As I was a little taken aback by the fact this was the case given their clientele (high proportion of mothers with babies) and by the way in which I was spoken to. I did manage to ask why it wasn't allowed and was told that there was an incident where a baby "fell" and they were made to feel responsible. I returned a couple of days later to speak to the same person to gain a better understanding of their position and perhaps even provide constructive feedback. While I can empathise to some extent that hers, like any business, would not want to be liable for such incidents, and that it must have been a very frightening experience for all involved, I was disappointed by other statements that were made. Rather than rehash the points, it it would seem that accessibility and inclusivity are no longer necessarily priorities for these owners. In my view, there are other, wider objectives trying to be achieved by the owners by disallowing baby changing - not only by this decision they've taken and by choosing not to provide facilities, but by some other points made by them and by the extensive experiences shared on social media from the strong Blackheath, Greenwich and parent community. It's all such a shame given they do have great cakes and coffees and in my previous experiences (with my children), they do provide lovely service. Mostly it's a shame that in a place like London / SE10 / SE3, people aren't appreciating and catering to the diversity of communities and fully understanding the value it adds to the economy.

I've had a similar experience at Mara to the previous reviewer, I visited about 6 months ago with my toddler son and chatted to the male owner for a while while ordering a coffee and some croissants. My son and I were then eating these when the lady owner returned from somewhere and, I can only assume as she saw some croissant crumbs on the floor, glared at us then started sweeping us around us whilst huffing and puffing. Extremely rude and unecessary and I think the problem being that the shop is furnished with light coloured furniture which is for sale so the owners get stressed about mess & kids near it. It's probably fine if your child is older and sits quietly drinking their hot chocolate but we were made to feel very unwelcome and left early and have never returned nor will. I spoke to friends who've had similarly lukewarm receptions there. Perhaps the owners should think about feedback and how they articulate their 'policies' to people.

Having spent three weeks of Monday morning coffee money here, the owner told me today that children are not welcome, it's an "Adult Cafe." Grumpy staff and passive aggressive signs on the loo. I was pretty upset that she waited til I bought my coffee before raising the issue with me.Fine (ish) if a business has a policy on who is welcome. Not fine to take my fiver first. Also just wanted to let other families know. The owner isn't interested in putting a sign on the door but explained to me she really doesn't want to see that kind of clientele. Only for those who like to pay before being invited by the unwelcoming atmosphere to leave. Or "adults".

Nice place for a cheeky post school-run coffee, (my daughter also loves the occasional hot chocolate with mini marshmallows on our way home). The seating is the most comfortable in Blackheath, Victoria sponge always delicious and there is good wifi. Calm, unhurried service makes this a good place to work or meet a friend for a quiet coffee. Window seat a top spot to watch the world go by.

Mara is a Coffee Shop in a Furniture Shop. Interesting setting, nice interior, but most of all home made cake! A good selection of cakes, gluten free if needed.Would recommend!

Mara is the most beautiful coffee shop. The seats are so comfortable and luxurious, the coffee is very good and is made with care and attention that is sadly lacking in chain coffee shops. The cakes are handmade by the owner and boy, can she bake! All the staff are wonderful and I just love visiting even if it is for a take out!

Smart modern environment with a decor that is a little incongruous for the area. Gentle friendly service. Cakes are of the highest quality without being too stylish. They have a home made quality. Amongst the best I have ever eaten.

Having an amazing coffee in a charming and comfortable place is a treat that I can have just in Mara. There are other few coffee shops around, but Mara is unique as you can enjoy not just the coffee but the tasty home made cakes and they have a furniture design show room downstairs, you still enjoy the bespoke designs in the coffee area as that is what they offer you to sit and enjoy your order! I found it as a cool treat, I haven't seen another place so comfortable and with such a nice vibe like this one to bring my friends for coffee chat. I went first time on 2014, and I keep going back, thumbs up!

Ah Mara, they need more like you. It's been serving great coffee for years despite the local councils innate hostility to local traders which makes a drink there far more satisfying than a trip to a Starbucks. Tucked among the quiet shops of the Royal Standard in Blackheath it offers a small but delicious range of coffees, pastries and sandwiches for a midmorning break or light lunch. The owners are pleasant and extremely friendly with none of the false bonhomie you find in most coffee shops. The upholstered chairs are usually occupied by mums taking a coffee break but there's always room and they also do all their food to go. It's parent friendly and discreet, genuinely relaxed without the table-hogging laptop users prevalent in high street rivals. From the Standard it's a short walk to the open vista of Blackheath or a short bus ride to Greenwich with your coffee in hand.

I am a frequent visitor of this cafe and the cakes are amazing especially the pistachio chocolate cake its a must have. The selection of cakes are incredible and all taste really good and on top of which they are all home made. Service is exceptional and I would recommend this cafe to anyoneThe only negative which has nothing to do with service or food is that the shop maybe misleading as it is also an interior shop.

Confusing from the outside given dual role as an interior designer and cafe but well worth popping in for coffee, cake and quiche.

I knew I was in for a real treat here when I asked for mint tea and was offered a fresh mint version. The place looks amazing - I guess it should do since they're interior design specialists. In fact, it looks so good that at first I thought it was far too nice to actually be a coffee shop. But the cakes look fab - I managed to resist as it was only 8am - and the drinks were made and served with care. All this is topped off by an owner who is genuinely friendly and approachable. I wish Mara Interiors all the luck in the world. And if you're thinking of having some fabulous curtains made then pop by for a coffee and check out their amazing selection of fabrics.

A small, independent and high quality cafe in Blackheath Standard which is open 7 days a week - and not yet on Tripadvisor so we thought we just had to add it!!Doubling as an interior design business, you can enjoy coffee and cake in a relaxed setting with designer furniture. Only about six or seven tables, and you are usually served personally by the owners. They are only too happy to describe their selection of cakes, many of which they make freshly each morning. And they are very welcoming.Parking, can be an issue, but there's a few free spaces outside the cafe, or 2 hours free parking in the resident bays just around the corner in Westcombe Park Road.But my only worry about adding this review - it might become more difficult to find a table ourselves when we drop in at the weekends!!
